This cute and clever addition to the best-selling Baby Loves series offers an introduction to political science that is accurate and simple enough for baby, ready to teach toddlers what makes a great democracy.
Baby learns what it means to participate in a democracy where everyone has a voice in electing our leaders. There are many ways for all of us, including the youngest children, to participate--such as making signs and sending postcards, campaigning, attending rallies, and of course getting out the vote!
Ruth Spiro is the author of the Baby Loves Science series, published by Charlesbridge. These adorably illustrated board books contain expert-reviewed science, yet are simple enough for the very youngest readers. Another new picture book series, Made by Maxine, will be published by Dial in October, 2018.
Ruth is a frequent speaker at schools and conferences, and recent presentations include the Early Childhood STEM Conference at CalTech and the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.
This timely addition to the terrific BABY LOVES series is a nonpartisan introduction to the democratic system. The story follows a mayoral campaign and election to emphasizes participation and opportunity for all, including the youngest members of the community. The lively illustrations bring the young listener into the story and include diverse representations of community members of various races, ethnicities, and abilities. A great read-aloud for preschools this election season.
In Baby Loves Political Science: Democracy, Baby learns in very easy language how the United States elections work. Spiro is an expert in explaining complicated topics for the very young. As a kindergarten teacher, I think it’s also perfect for my students. In this story, it’s Election Day, and even Baby helps out by making signs for a rally. Paprocki’s adorable illustrations will make little ones pick this book up.
From the author of the amazing Baby Loves Science series, comes this board book about how democracy works. Nonpartisan, it shows how even young children can participate in democracy, from coloring signs to bringing cookies to a meeting. A must read for our future generation of voters and leaders. A timely book.
The youngest readers will love following along with Baby as she colors signs, shares cookies, and cheers on voters in this fun board book. The bright, colorful illustrations will keep your little one engaged during story time, and parents/caregivers will enjoy reading about this important process with their children.
Love this type of board book - introducing complicated topic in simple terms. This one was really well done (as this series tends to be)... albeit more 'ideal' and 'reality' perhaps. Baby may have to learn some hard truths from a different book later in life about whether everyone's vote actually counts equally.
This wasn't a new favorite, but it was an excellent introduction to democracy. I think it did a much better job clearly explaining our system of government than all of the Citizen Baby books. Glad we picked this one up, and we'll probably rent it from the library again when Spider gets a little older.
Ruth Spiro, author of the Baby Loves Science series, shows how very young children can participate in democracy even though they can't vote. It explains how a campaign and election work. The engaging illustrations show a diverse community. A perfect read for an election year.
Checked this out from the library for my 12m old and he loved it. Didn't return it until he was nearly 15m! Great images and information about how Democracy is supposed to work. Everyone has a voice.
Read this one with my 3 and 6 year olds to prep them for our upcoming “election” homeschool civics unit study for November. Perfect choice. A great intro to voting and elections for little ones :)
