18+ for language and sexual content! Alex ‘Hawk’ James has a sordid and violent past, one that, in part, leaves him the single father of a little girl. But when a chance encounter with a gorgeous biker upends her tidy plans, she finds herself confronting things she’d been happy to gloss over... until now. So when I find myself starting a book then not stopping until done.. That's a rarity now a days. As picky as I've become.. It's hard not finding something that bothers me. This had everything I loved.. Even when I was so mad at Hawk I knew that I couldn't stop reading because I just had that feeling he'd make it right. Words hurt but words heal too and when actions follow that's the best redemption. Totally Nic proof safety. The other woman drama was handled even though Hawk made mistakes when he was mad he still took my heart. I loved how the heroine Payton was strong and had values that she believed strongly in and nothing would change that. Hawk and his baby girl Lily fell hard for Payton and she did too. All the side characters had me curious and epilogue with babies made it perfect. Can't wait to move to the next one. Love the feel this author has to her writing. It's everything I love about romance.
I'm enjoying this series so far. I'm an insta-love kinda gal and these books fit the bill.
Hawk set his eyes on Payton and there is nobody else but her. Now, he did have a moment where I wanted to strangle him but he pulls through and I know he loves Payton with all his heart. And he's a great dad given the shitty circumstances of how it came to be He still loves Lily with all his heart.
I absolutely adored Payton. I am super tough on heroines so there are very few I really like. Payton was great and I love how she didn't take Hawk's shit and pushed back. She was also great with Lily and accepted her right away.
I do have to say though, the words "honey" "babe" and "handsome" were way overused. It really started to grate on my nerves after a while. They just started to lose their "intimate" usage after a while since they were thrown around so much to just anybody. Other than that, I enjoyed it...on to book 3.
Alex 'Hawk' James has done right by his daughter, when her mother walked out he filled in every gap she could possibly have. His precocious daughter though has a tendency to run off and happens to run into Payton Williams. Payton doesn't deny Hawk is a perfect specimen of a man she would love to spend a night with, but Payton is not a fling or one night stand type of gal.
Hawk though isn't looking for one night, he plans to see where it will go with Payton. Though when a surprise from his past comes back it threatens to ruin everything he is building with Payton. Can Payton see past Hawk's rough exterior and is Hawk willing to let Payton in?
Loved this couple, perfect opposite attracts story. Payton is interesting, she is a person who likes to be in control and Hawk is a man who likes to be in control. Great read, talented author who has a way of creating a story that takes your breath away.
This book was way too sweet and boring, I made myself finish. I guess this author just isn't for me but if you don't mind really sweet reads with no angst (even when there should be), maybe it will work for you.
I almost DNF this book many times but I wanted to know what happened with the egg donor and the Mafia men but it doesn't even tell us. If I read the word "Honey" again in the week I'll scream. It was said a lot in the first book but this one was ridiculous. I don't know how it got so many high ratings. Where's the club stuff? SPOILERS ahead...
How did Hawk get hurt? Was he shot... stabbed... fall on a big nail??? Did the birth Mother go to jail and what did they get her for? Too many unanswered questions. I give up on this series at book two. I might try a different series by this author later but not if it starts with calling everyone Honey.
After finishing the first book in this series, Road to Desire, I knew I would read Road to Redemption next. I loved it! I loved the story between Payton and Alex "Hawk" James. Lily was freaking adorable. All the supporting characters were great. There was just enough intrigue and the sexy times were hot! There's even the humor element which just makes this book (and the first one) a very well rounded book with bits of everything that kept me glued to my kindle! I've definitely found a new favorite series and I can't wait to see who the next book will be about.
I love stories that make you smile most of the way through and that's what this one did for me. Loved it. For safety people: there is a little talk of rape, doesn't go in to details or anything like that. Great read.
I had the pleasure to read book one in this series and had a really good time with it and I was intrigued by Hawk and his relationship with Booker in that story. When I was given the chance to read Hawk's own story, I jumped on it.
This is book two and would probably be enjoyed better read after book one, but in a pinch, it would be fine read out of order since the connection to the first book is loose enough.
The story begins with Payton Williams preparing to attend a biker club gathering with her best friend Macey. While she is picking up wine for the party she encounters a lost little girl in the store and her really hot Daddy. Payton loses the power of speech and books it out of the store quick only to find the guy she was drooling over is a member of the club. And he is just as keenly interested in her as she is in him, but Payton likes to take things super slow so she puts the brakes on things after sharing a scorching hot kiss and walks away. No bad boys for her, uh uh, even as she glances back a few times wondering.
Alex 'Hawk' James is warned off of Payton by a well-meaning brother who thinks he plans to treat her like a club whore and treat her to his darker tastes, but he's well aware Payton is special. He plans to treat her special- only her trail went cold until he catches a lucky break and is able to get the girl to see her way to giving him a chance. Well until his nightmare of a one night stand resurfaces full of drama and demanding he let her have time with the daughter she gave up years ago. He's scared to death that his past already counts against him and he knows that Payton can't stand drama so he figures its all over before it really begins.
Alrighty...this story didn't quite get there for me like the last one did. I liked it alright and really wanted something good for this couple, but there were some hitches for me. The story is very character-driven and moves along with few spikes in excitement until well over the half-way point. It wasn't boring, but my interest grew more intent in the latter half. I struggled with getting into this book at first because I was on the fence about the heroine. She both attracted and repelled me.
Payton comes on strong with her intense attraction to Hawk right from the moment she sets eyes on him, but then she starts playing games and isn't honest even with herself. Hawk calls her on it, her friends call her on it, but even then she wavers between honest emotions and responses to jerking back and forth between hot and cold. I swear there were times that the guy was darned if he did and darned if he didn't (I need my space because I'm confused by his honest words, emotions and actions- he hasn't called me in a few days- guess he doesn't care-time to pull the plug because its getting real here and I'm chicken-why doesn't he call- even though this was my idea and my phone isn't broke). I never find that attractive or fun reading. It was just odd to me that she's the one acting like she came from a past loaded with baggage and Alex was the level-headed one even with all that he'd been through- and trust me, it was a lot. I'm not saying Alex's over-protectiveness wouldn't have been chafing, but then again, is it over-protectiveness when the Russian Mafia's involved to ask a gal to stay in the house until it is handled? Her 'my brother taught me to be Bruce Lee and shoot like Annie Oakley' attitude was fine if the bad guys play fair and let you hit and shoot them. Sigh...yeah, I got a bit annoyed with Payton if you can't tell.
But, yes there is a but, Payton also got over herself pretty quickly and she had the smarts to see through all the rumors and perceptions of Hawk to the real Alex. He thought he was a bad parent to his little girl because someone made him think it, but Payton loyally told him what he needed to know and it happened to be the truth. She was fine dating a man who came with a child and loved that little girl to death. She also heard him about his awful past and didn't even flinch about loving him through the dark stuff. Alex's past got in his way a few times making him push Payton away, but she was generous with her love even though he hurt her. Alex got a little kinky, but for all her dithering in the beginning, Payton was right on board yeehaw with that- a bit more than a slap and a tickle, but not something too wild.
As to the exciting big climax scene, it came quick and hard, but then it was over in a flash. I would have loved to have gotten the switch to Alex's perspective to have the action more visceral and immediate instead of just Payton's distant one.
I loved the inclusion of surrounding family and family moments both Payton's family occasions and Alex's club family. It was not a romance told in isolation and for that I was really glad.
So, a few bumps, but for the most part it was an enjoyable read that is both sweet and scorching hot in turn. Those who enjoy biker romance at the lighter end of the spectrum will want to try this book/series.
My thanks to the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
DNF 20% Whoa?! what did I just read? She was short from planning their wedding one day after they met. Yeah, great... and she was still living with her two old parents and feel so comfortable with them she doesn't have any plans to move out. Talking about feminism independent woman.. awesome. To add to all this an insta-insta love story and a staccato short sentence that in the end of each one of them she was giggling? OMG I'm gonna down me some alcohol to get back to myself. Peace!
I wasn’t sure I was going to like Hawk after the first book in this series. Piper changed my mind, I went from thinking he should worry more about Lily and less about women to wow what a good Dad. Piper managed complete redemption of his character. (See what I did there) Payton is a bit of a control freak and in my opinion has never been in love until she meets her match with Hawk. Hawk is a bit broken and so was my heart after hearing his background story. This is definitely a case of opposites attract. Payton is surrounded by a loving family and Hawk has never had that. Lily steals the show and is such a lovable little girl, though she definitely needs some stranger danger advice. This is a wonderful story with very little violence so if MC violence scares you the Dogs of Fire are not 1%s and there’s no traumatic triggers IMHO. I recommend losing sleep to read this series. I’m starting book 3 tonight.
Same vibe and similar plot development to the first one, so my review for that one stands for this as well. The characters sound exactly the same - and don’t get me started on the amount of honey’s.
You mean to tell me that every woman just starts calling her boyfriend or soon to be boyfriend or guy she barely met”honey” - and not as a one off, or once in a while, but every single conversation contains a back and forth with babe and honey ... it’s annoying when KA does it, but at least by now we are used to it and it’s kinda her signature (doesn’t make it less exasperating but it’s tolerable), in here it’s a rip off and it’s just arghh...
2.5 This was okay. It started out alright but soon became a little over the top. Insta-love . I was looking forward to more MC story line but it wasn't really there. This was a very mild MC book. Not anything that had me holding my breath wanting to know what happens next. At was all kinda Eh.
After finishing book 1 in this series I moved on to this one. I felt like I was re-reading book 1 with just a character name change. A little too much formulaic to me.
I wanted to give this book 2* ... but Lilly saved the day, haha.
- The dialog was weird, and who talks like that?? - if I read honey one more time, I'm gonna 🤯 - why does he have to call every woman "babe"? How original... not - the entire conflict with the russians and the baby momma was solved in 3 pages tops ... how was he injured? Is the baby momma in prison for trying to "sell" her daughter to the mafia ? Where is she??? Can she bring back drama in their lives? I suppose not, but who knows. Yes, spoilers, but I don't even care at this point 😅 - the "I love you" came out of nowhere.. he knew she was it from the first moment he saw her but he didn't even ask for her number or something, anything... the fact that they met the same day at the club, it was pure coincidence - his behavior towards her when the baby momma came back was despicable and he didn't grovel enough, seriously, I understand you have trauma etc., but don't shout and talk like that with the woman you say you love 🙄 - the book was focused on their relationship, which is fine, but for an MC read I wanted to see a better balanced ratio of plot between their romantic relationship/life etc and the club business; by the end of the book it's not clear what he does for the club, is the club 100% clean? (It might be since her brother, who is an fbi agent or something, said he is "a good man") What are the club businesses, etc? This might have been cleared in the first book, but I don't really remember.
If there are any more freebies in the future for this series, I might read them. Otherwise, no, thank you.
I actually hope his sister has a book in the series. I will check because she's one of the few characters I actually liked.
I absolutely loved Hawk (Alex) and Payton's story! Hawk was exactly what Payton needed in a man. And Payton turned out to be exactly what Hawk didn't know he needed in his life! Can't wait to read more of this series!!!
I was given a copy of Road to Redemption (Dogs of Fire Book#2) for an honest review. I had read Book #1 (Road to Desire) and was looking forward to the second installment of the series. Now that I’ve read two of the books, I can easily say I want my husband to buy a Harley. Beyond my own wishes (prompted from the Dogs of Fire series, I have to say I loved Road to Redemption. Hawk was a fantastic character with both humor and depth. We are introduced to Hawk in book 1 where we learn he has a small daughter. This family aspect of him makes him even more endearing. Payton was a fun character who showed a lot of strength throughout the storyline – a strength all the characters relied upon.
The one thing I was a tiny bit disappointed in the story was the ‘dramatic climax’; although different in specific details, it was too similar to what happened in book 1. Overall I really enjoyed road to Redemption and am looking forward to Piper Davenport’s 3rd release with more twists and turns in the Dogs of Fire series!!!
OMG this book was amazing!!! Everything about it, the flow was spot on and the characters were just literally made for each other! Payton is a teacher and loves her job her she has a sassiness to her by having a brother in the FBI who has taught her to stand her up herself. She keeps herself busy between work and her friends and finds it difficult to let 'people in'. Alex (Hawk) is a patched member of the Dogs Of Fire MC and they are his family, along with his sister Kayla and his beautiful little daughter, Lily. The instant Alex and Payton set eyes on each other there is an instant attraction, that frightens Payton to the point that she tries to deny it! A massive turn of events causes huge problems and white knuckle reading for a while from the intense story line... But can just love ever be strong enough? Can Alex learn to trust Payton fully? Will Payton open her heart and take the risk? Will they get to share a HEA together or will events pull them apart forever? Reviewed by Tracy@LadiesOfLoveBookBlogAndGraphics
This is a great story. It's a case of opposites attract. Hawk is a bounty hunter and a member of the dogs of fire mc. Payton is an elementary school teacher. They never would have gotten together if it wasn't for his daughter Lily. The attraction between them is intense and Payton tries to stay away but Hawk won't take no for an answer. This isn't a light hearted romance where the main characters fall head over heels in love and live happily ever after. Payton is a sassy strong willed woman that is devoted to her friends and family. Hawk is not the type of guy she goes for. He's rough, intense and gritty. What breaks through his walls is the love he has for his daughter and sister. When Payton enters his life, he doesn't know what to do. She unlike any woman he's ever known. If he wants to be with her he's gonna have to work for it.
Hawk and Payton meet when she helps his young daughter. Then they run into each other again later that night at a club gathering. The Dogs of Fire are not a typical MC, which I like. If you have read the two books in the Guardian series you were first introduced to Payton in her brother Brock’s book Witness. Hawk is a single father to Lily and immediately sets his sights on Payton. She isn’t so sure about a relationship because she doesn’t think they could want the same things. There is some OW drama that almost rips them apart, no cheating though. I don’t want to give anything away so I will just say I recommend this book.
I had the pleasure of pre reading this book. Let me say I very much enjoyed it. Please take note of the rating, yes there is sex and cursing. I enjoyed reading about Payton and Hawk and their growing relationship. Both are strong characters in their own rite but lend strength to each other. It's a bit more "kinky" than prior books but still tasteful and enjoyable without being overwhelmed by details. Throw in a bit of danger and mystery just to spice things up. Getting to read a bit more about prior characters just added to the fun. For me Ms. Davenport has done it again weaving a story that kept me up late reading. I can't wait for the next Dogs of Fire story to be written to learn more about the members and just what all the club has their hands in.
Bad boy bounty hunting biker meets good girl school teacher. And she doesn't put out! The pursuit begins. Add in his absolutely adorable and irresistible daughter and she doesn't stand a chance of escaping his clutches. The drama comes when his daughter's psycho birth mother shows up out of nowhere. The danger to his daughter from this skank is only part of a much bigger threat looming over the MC from a Russian mob family. Enjoyed reading this and seeing her law enforcement family mix and mingle with his MC family which ultimately is a blessing when the mob strikes close to home. There is mild bondage play in this story if you don't like to read that stuff. No cheating, stand alone HEA. On to book 3.
Love love love this story. It had all the bells and whistles and some scenes that will have you whistling! Grab a tissue because there are some tender moments that you don't see coming that make you want to just cry! Piper, continues a wonderful romancing "hot" story about everyday girls that fall for the ruggedly handsome motorcycle men! Grab a copy, a glass of wine, put your feet up and enjoy a good story of Payton, Hawk and Lily.
Love this next installment in Dogs if Fire. An amazing story from start to finish. You instantly love Hawk and his love for family. If you love stories with twists and turns, characters with pasts that haunt them, and their discovery of themselves then grab this book. Please note this does have language and sexual acts depicted.
I didn't like this one as much as Book 1. The funny banter from Dani and Booker devolved to silly drama-queen bickering from the h, Payton. It's like one of those nasty, bickering 'Housewives of Wherever' reality shows.
Otherwise, the family and friends are nice. The little girl with the speech impediment was cute, if cliche'.
