A great introduction to books through well-known nursery rhymes and interactive text. Singing songs and rhymes is the perfect way to bond with your baby and share quality time. It also aids language development by introducing them to the natural sounds and patterns of speech. Combining these with actions also stimulates the brain and helps muscle development.
An illustrated board book of the popular nursery rhyme. I will probably try this with my pig lap time next fall. It came to late this year.
Used for my 11/4 Piggies Lap Time. I guess it went over better than I thought. It disappeared after the program, so I guess it got checked out.
Went over better than I thought again, though it wasn't checked out. We did the finger play to introduce it and some caretakers/parents were doing it with their child. Rounded up to four stars. 11/14/17
Summary: This a pictured and written version of the nursery rhyme of This Little Piggy. It shows illustrations of children who are in pig costumes perform the acts that the little piggies do within the original nursery rhyme
Review: I feel that the book adds some fun with this old nursery rhyme by adding illustrations to it having children be the little piggies. I think that the nursery rhyme and the illustrations themselves can help to engage the children.
Possible Uses in Class: Children can learn about pigs and can be made into children playing the roles of the piggies as I read it to them for a second time.
Right before reading this book, I asked Mama to take of my shoes and count my toes. Then I would spread my toes and Mama would read the story with my little piggies. I was worried when I would see the little piggy who had none. I would turn the page back and take some roast beef from the one piggy and share it with the other. Then I would give him a kiss so that he would feel better. My Papa didn't know that Mama had shown me how to do this. One day when he read it with me, I showed him how to feed the little piggy with none. It made him laugh and laugh.
Ages 1-5. Each sentence has two pictures, one of the child playing with their toes allowing the children reading the story to act it out as well, and one with the child dressed as a pig acting out the sentence. I like the combination of imagination and play. The board book makes it easy for babies and toddlers to handle the pages. The physical play of moving from one toe to the next can help children understand sequencing, and help beginning counting.
Annie Kubler's rhymes books from Child Play are such a delight! They are so captivating, self explanatory and simple enough for even babies to follow! We've been reading this since my son was a few months old.
I thought that this was a cute book to read to the younger ones. it was short and sweet. not too long that the kids will get bored. I would recommend this book to others.
THIS LITTLE PIGGY is a simple rendition of the nursery rhyme in a board book. The book follows the "This little piggy went to market..." nursery rhyme with the only modification being that the piggy eats roast leeks vs. beef (this may be a regional difference). The illustrations are simple, showing children in pig costumes holding their toes and then acting out the rest of the rhyme on the facing page. The diversity of children shown is great, including a child with vitiligo.
What I loved: This is a cute and simple board book that will appeal to children who enjoy simple stories of rhymes. The illustrations are really cute but simple with small actions. I loved the diversity of children shown. This book would be best for infants who will appreciate the brief text and simple rhyme. For toddlers, this may be too simple.
What left me wanting more: If you are looking for a simple book of the nursery rhyme, this would be right up your alley. If you are looking for something more complex or with additional features to appeal to older children, then this would be too simple.
Final verdict: THIS LITTLE PIGGY illustrates the classic nursery rhyme in a way that is perfect for infants and their caregivers to enjoy together. A quick but cute read, this adds some fun illustrations that are great for babies who enjoy looking at other babies!
Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.
This board book has the traditional "This Little Piggy" nursery rhyme with a small change. The piggy who originally ate roast beef actually eats "roast leeks" in this book. I guess that piggy is a vegetarian.
Each page shows a child wiggling their toes, and then the same child is dressed up in a pig costume acting out the accompanying action, like going to market, staying home, or crying "wee, wee, wee". I appreciated that the children in the illustrations are all diverse and of different ages and ethnicities.
The art work is simple and cute. I like that it is brightly colored to capture a child's attention. The art depicts the actions clearly, so that a child could easily follow along.
This book is so cute and adorable!

Not only do little ones learn how books operate and what direction they should read the letters on the page by reading this one, but it contains a favorite game for youngsters as well as the music to which to sing it on the back. Adorable youngsters appear on each page along with each line of the classic rhyme. There may not be any pigs in the book, but there is still much fun to be had as adults share the book with their youngsters. I was surprised to see roast leeks mentioned in the book, an interesting variation on the classic lines. It's fun to spend time with one's child while also fostering a love for literacy and an appreciation for toes. This is one of the four books in this particular series.
1. This is a great book for pre-k through 1st grade. 2. This books is about all the places the little piggy. They're five little piggy and they all go to a different place. It is an adventure. 3. This book is very interactive and I enjoy it. You can use for younger age (pre-k) by touching toes and make it a fun game while reading the book. It is very cute and simple. 4. I would do this assignment with little children and have students cut out pictures of where the piggy went and put it in order regarding the book.
I absolutely love this book it is so simple and cute! I read this book to my students at the daycare i worked at and they loved it. This book is a cute little rhyme that babies enjoy,
Illustrator Annie Kubler does a fantastic job with this children’s board book meant for babies with simple images that are warm and inviting. The is nursery rhyme story of the This Little Piggy. Each time you turn the page a baby can see two things. One page has a baby playing with his toes (the way the game is played) and another page has a picture of what the Piggy would actually be doing if the game was real. I read this to my grandson and he LOVED it! This book is a part of the Child’s Play series and the length (reading time) of the book, the actual physical size of the book and the simple pictures work perfect together.

We began our "Pig-tastic" story time for children ages 1 to 5 with this version on the familiar nursery rhyme. Using fingers instead of toes we invited the children to repeat the segments of the verse in Spanish!
Este cochinito (this little piggy) al mercado salio` (went to market) and so forth.
Written in Spanish and English, this board book consists of the classic nursery rhyme often used to teach little ones about their toes. The illustrations use soft colors and feature smiling children playing with each other. The digit action occurs on the left-hand page. This book might be useful in introducing children to those toes and to simple nursery rhymes. There is music on the back cover.
This little piggy is a book that the one year olds love! They love to sing a long and dance while listening to this book. I would read this to young children on a regular basis because they enjoy listening to it so much!
I like that there's two pictures for each line: one of the baby playing with their toes, and one of the baby dressed up as a little piggy acting out the words.
1. NA 2. Pre K through Kindergarten 3. This book shows pictures of the nursery rhyme "This Little Piggy". It goes through each of the five "piggies" and what happens with each one. 4. This book is short and sweet and definitely written for children under five years of age. This helps children to visualize the renowned nursery rhyme. 5. This helps to teach children one to one correspondence. This also is something that can be done during a circle time or morning meeting with the whole class in order to get them all singing and involved.
