Affection, betrayal, desperation -- love between grown-ups is never a rational thing. Sayaka, age 35, has lived with the perfect husband for ten years. Perfect, that is, except for his disinterest in raising a child -- she wants one badly, but just can't come clean to him about it. Instead she unloads her frustrations on her younger friend Rui at their favorite bar. They trust each other enough to talk about almost anything -- but Rui has a secret she can't even let Sayaka know about!
Everyone has something to feel guilty about in this.
3.5 for the entire series
Edit on 12/26/25: This is an updated review as I finally finished the entire series late last night on the day after Christmas & OMG--what a ride! This was really far outside of my normal reads & comfort zone, so much so I almost bailed a few times, it was so over the top that I am just going to say if you are easily triggered this is not the manga for you. I don't want to put this up behind a spoiler screen so I won't say any more, but I found myself gasping in disbelief again & again by things the characters did. When you read the last volume & the note by the author I think she achieved what she set out to do but I also think this will be the only series by her I will read. I attempted another book by her & it was just too much --the cruelty was more than I could handle. But YMMV as they say.
One title that could have really benefited from stellar art, someone like Okazaki Mari for example, rather than the style I think of as "josei pedestrian". Also everyone is unpleasant or unhappy or both and ordinarily I would run screaming from this kind of middleclass clusterfuck. But I do love my josei so I will give it another volume or two.
Coming from experience when you put all your heart into a relationship and someone doesn't it's hard to trust someone. Also when her so call friend is the other woman and is sleeping with her man, and her man doesn't want to have a baby. And not only that he has a secret but everyone around her about it. I like josei manga but this more like of a soap and/or movie it a real good.
This is really reminding me of a josei version of Peach Girl in some ways. I feel so bad for the main character, and I really hope she ends up triumphing against what she’s going to experience when she learns the truth about her man and her drinking buddy...
This is not at all what I had been expecting when I first read the initial pages of the preview….
The theme of the series is about lies and betrayals in relationships, and about people using each other…. And it’s so well interwoven, I couldn’t put it down. I definitely want to see where it goes.
I’m also not sure why some people were dissing the art? I think it’s good… 🤷🏻
Auhmm... hmm. Well, I couldn't stop reading it because I needed to know what the heck was going on. I don't know that I would recommend this series to friends?
By the end of the series, I was rooting for exactly no one. I was just frustrated with them all.
This series is completely ridiculous like a daytime soap opera. I enjoyed it. I wish I’d found the main love interest as compelling as the other characters. That was the main reason it wasn’t a solid 4 star read.
This series starter is a slow burn: Introducing the main characters and the situations. I rather like the artwork in this. This isn't the typical, wispy-lined, starry-eyed girls and boys or have the garish, thick-lined and overly-exaggerated facial and physical attributes that resemble those hideous Bratz dolls. The story itself is your typical, run-of-the-mill, K- or J-drama material, but with a decent amount of spice and scandal to keep things interesting.
