Must Trilogy #3

The War of the Out Of

The Out Of. The Elephant Land. Do these mythical places actually exist? And within them do they harbor salvation . . . or destruction?

Two years have passed since the events of "Black & White." Hamilton Briggs is back in Africa, working for the Wildlife Investigation Agency in Dar es Salaam, helping to write a report which he hopes will wake up the world to the desperate plight of elephants.

But when his boss sends him to a remote part of southern Tanzania to check out the disappearance (and possible murder) of one of his co-workers, Ham finds himself caught up in what amounts to a war—a war involving albinos, eco-terrorists, elephant poachers, and ultimately the elephants themselves.

Things aren’t really as bad as all *that*, though, because you see there’s this kick-ass girl . . .

Hi there, nice to meet you! Here are a few things about me:

I was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, back when it had more of a small-town feel. For a while I was incarcerated at (er, I mean I was a student at) Hillwood High, home of the Hilltoppers (whatever those are).

My father was a professor of Spanish & Portuguese at Vanderbilt University, and was awarded a couple of research grants which allowed us to live in Brazil on two separate occasions, once in Rio de Janeiro, once in Recife.

Later, I graduated from Vanderbilt with a double major in English Lit and Portuguese (yes, I had to take a class or two from my dad, which was awkward, but I would gladly do that again if I could see him now). Later still, I attended the graduate program in Creative Writing at the University of Colorado, Boulder, continuing the trend of receiving degrees from institutions with unusual mascots (Commodores and Buffaloes). I kept that going by earning an M.L.I.S. at Denver University, home of the Pioneers.

These days, I live in Broomfield, Colorado with my wife, two of my kids, and Rory, an outstanding Holland Lop rabbit.

If you have the time and interest, I hope you’ll visit my website at www.briceaustin.com, where you’ll find more information about my books, plus a couple of downloadable stories. Have a great day!

I didn't read 2 previous books, but that didn't make it hard to get into the story. This book is about elephant poaching in Africa and people trying to stop it. There's a lot of fights, danger, survival. It was an interesting story, especially introduction of albinos and eco-terrorists. Also elephant land - is it real or just a legend?
However, in my opinion, this book didn't have to be that long. Some descriptions, thoughts, events kept repeating. For faster readers those reminders might be unnecessary. Few characters are thinking about exactly the same possibilities and outcomes, then having conversations about it without giving much of new information.

I didn’t realize that this was the 3rd in a series of books – it’s a captivating story trying to bring the destruction of Elephants to humans so as to have it stopped. Are the stories that the original Africans saying true or just legends --- the book has absolutely everything in it – held my attention until I finished it. I read it as a lone read and found it thoroughly enculturating!
