About Sarah: Contemporary Romances Across the Rainbow…
Sarah Robinson first started her writing career as a published poet in high school, and then continued in college, winning several poetry awards and being published in multiple local literary journals.
Never expecting to make a career of it, a freelance writing Craigslist job accidentally introduced her to the world of book publishing. Lengthening her writing from poetry to novels, Robinson published her first book through a small press publisher, before moving into self-publishing, and then finally accepting a contract from Penguin Random House two years later. She continues to publish both traditionally and indie with over 18+ novels to her name with publishers like Penguin, Waterhouse Press, Hachette, Forever, Grand Central Publishing, and more.
In her personal life, Sarah Robinson identifies as a queer, non-binary mother and is happily married to the gentle giant of her dreams. The duo have two little children and are happily living in Arlington, Virginia where Robinson also works full-time as a psychotherapist with queer individuals and couples.
Being sister to a reality tv star and MMA champion isn’t all it’s cracked up to be for Josie Gray. She’s tired of the posing and the publicity stunts and all the posturing for ratings and likes and followers. The fact that she always has to put her wants and needs on hold to please everyone else has her ready for drastic changes.
When she meets Callan, the instant chemistry between them floors her. After one night, she feels bonded to him like nothing she’s ever experienced before.
But Callan isn’t just a charismatic stranger, he’s her brother’s rival and associating with him brings more complications than she’s ready for.
This wasn’t a bad read, it was actually pretty entertaining. My issue was that these two had terrible timing. I wasn’t a fan of the long separations, I really didn’t like the OW drama and the baby bomb that was dropped definitely didn't help.
Callan was an admirable MC. Sure he didn’t love the OW but he took the baby news like a dream. He instantly committed to being there for the baby, not just monetarily but emotionally as well. He was even a model co-parent, being there 24/7 for his baby mama, completely platonic and respectful. This was probably my favorite part, seeing how amazing he was for his baby.
But even that was overshadowed by the fact that he was sharing all these amazing memories and experiences with another woman, not Josie. Sure, he felt bad but I kept expecting him to pursue Josie just as single-mindedly as he did to the idea of be a dad. And he never did. Although the gesture was cute, I also really didn’t dig Josie doing the big romantic gesture to win Cal back. I prefer the guy doing the chasing and in this particular scenario, I really wish Callan would have tried harder to keep his girl close rather than leaving her behind so easily.
Which reminds me, Josie, your brother is an MMA fighter, he can take a punch. *hint-hint* After the stunt he pulled by blacklisting you all over town, he owed you one. I get family is family but his sheepish apology did not cut it. Especially not with his insulting drunken behavior (that was never addressed) and definitely not with his childish temper tantrums that were accepted by everyone! So frustrating.
* * * ARC provided for an honest review * * * I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4.5 Real vs Reality Stars * * * *1/2 Spoiler Free Sarah Robinson is a true favorite of mine. Every time I start one of her works, I feel as if I have come home. It feels natural and true. In Misadventures in the Cage, that feeling was there from the start.
We are given a woman whose career has been coopted by the focus of her family's needs. Josie wanted to pursue a career as a chef. She went to the best culinary school in her area to learn her trade the right way. She studied hard and became accomplished, ready to start at the bottom in a kitchen and work her way up. Yet, no matter where she sends her resume and recommendation letters, every restaurant in Las Vegas has either sent a polite letter saying nothing at this time or no response at all.
So here she sits at a dive bar away from her home's glamourous strip nursing her wounds on another polite rejection. She knows she is playing hooky from all of her responsibilities as her brother's assistant and glorified babysitter. Making sure her brother behaves 24/7 is a full-time job when he is the champ MMA and is the star of his reality show. Josie knows it is the show and the family motto of Everything for the Family is how she is able to live the life she has...but when is enough enough.
Callan has been watching this beautiful woman at the bar for a while now. Her curly locks and smooth chocolate skin has made him want to get up close and personal but he has held himself back. He has been debating if he should approach her because she didn't look like she wanted any company. As he is making the move to see what was up, Josie is halfway out of the bar. Callan also sees a man moving quickly to go after her and that concerns him.
It was a good thing due to a number of circumstances and this is how Callan and Josie meet.
Timing in life is everything. Josie annoyed with everything that has been happening in her life is wanting to just have a moment for herself...no 24/7 tv crew following her. The fact that Callan is handsome, smart, built like crazy and doesn't seem to know who she is....is Perfection.
Callan is a man who has his own following...and he is thrilled he doesn't have to deal with the questions of why the woman is with him rings so strong...he is all in.
When Josie suggests she go to his place, Callan checks to make sure Josie is not making drunk decisions. After proving she is clearheaded and not impaired, it is all systems go. Rules of this meeting are set as this is only going to be one night.
These two make a connection on a level very unusual for either of them. Callan has been focused on his career and breaking through to the next level. Josie has been tied to this family's Reality show and has had no time for any personal life. When they come together, fireworks go off and all they want is more.
Life being what it is...you know there has to be a hiccup and boy, oh boy, there is a big one...Josie's brother is the MMA Champ and Callan is his challenger!
I was all in from the very first page and it was a strong read all the way through. It looked hard at this Reality TV life and how it can suck the soul of someone and make them go along to get along. It also spotlighted the question of how much does a family member owe another...When is enough payback enough for what they may have done for them...
Both of these characters had strong personalities and their need to make a way in this world on their own. To be their own person. Callan was more sure of himself and was able to realize his feeling for Josie early on. Josie had other obstacles which complicated everything and needed to work through everything to get where she could live in her moment.
There were a couple of situations that made me a tiny bit annoyed but overall this was a true Sarah Robinson Winner for me.

Misadventures in the Cage-February 4th 2020
A gifted copy was provided by author/publisher for an honest review.
The following review will contain spoilers because some things need to be said. When a book has one of my pet peeves I rant and I cannot do it by tiptoeing around the issue.
One of the things I hate the most when it comes to the book is having one of the MCs sleep with another person. Halfway through the book, we find out that Callan slept with another woman. Some readers might forgive him because he wasn't in a relationship with Josie at the time, but I simply couldn't. You see, the story is basically told in 2 parts. The first one is what the blurb (with the exception of the last paragraph) says and then the rest of the story takes place a year later. Josie mentions that she didn't date another man in the previous year, while Callan's new chapter began with him been on a fake date with the woman he slept with. Isn't that great? Do you know what's also great? The other woman is pregnant and guess who is the father. He is the "hero" of this story. This was not the book I signed up to read and honestly, I wasn't expecting something like this from this author. If I wanted to read a soap opera, I wouldn't have picked a book in the Misadventure series. Josie and Callan can be all they want friends with the baby mama, but I can and will not accept it.
Also, I cannot understand how Josie could forgive her brother from blacklisting her to work from all the restaurants in the state? Josie girl, you needed to abandon all the men in your life and find someone better.
Everything about this story is outstanding perfection! Everything. I might just read it again before it releases just for the comedic relief!!! This is the first book of 2020 to land in my #TopReads shelf! I am just ridiculously impressed.
Update 02/04/20: I read it again!!!
Okay, so truth be told, there have not been many Misadventures that have disappointed me but also there have not been many that have had me explode with joy while reading them. This one made me explode. I was grinning and highlighting like a fool from like 6% on ... Sienna the Sex Doll hooked me and I just didn't want to stop reading LOLOL EVER!
The humor and ease that the story-line held was refreshing. Not only was the story fun, but so were Callan and Josie, as individuals or a couple or or or just anything! LOL There is not a single moment to this story that you aren’t smiling in some way. Even thru all of Josie’s conflicts (I can’t say more nor can I come up with a better phrase/word because, spoilers), my heart was happy. Because the story promised (and delivered) at every turn, happiness, lots and lots of happiness!!
Sarah Robinson has serious talent. Her stories have depth and she has grown as an author these past years by leaps and bounds. I’ve not read any work by her before 2015 but I have read almost everything she has published in the last 4ish years and have always been happy. If you’re not reading her work, you’re missing out on a great reading experience so get to it!
When Josie and Callan have a hot one night stand, then find out their attraction is in the off-limits category considering she's the little sister of Callan's next, most important fighting opponent. Can the two contain their attraction or is that asking too much of them?
I love this installment of the Misadventures series! It's funny (SO FUNNY!), sexy and serious fun. Josie and Callan's chemistry is so electric, so undeniable. I will definitely be doing a re-read of this one!
Anyone who knows me knows that fighter romance is my jam. There is something about these stories that have me addicted. Callan and Josie were sexy and I loved the easy dynamic between them!
Josie and Callan gave me all types of feels. Their connection seem genuine, spontaneous and so real. I enjoyed the first part of the story but the latter half even more as we see Callan and Josie able to really be "all in" without limitations. This was a sweet and sexy read! 4 stars! ~Ratula
This is my first read by this author. I actually loved the book. Cal Walsh is a UFC fighter who one day went to a bar and had his life change forever. I love the Misadventures series because it has several authors. They are all stand alone books. Helps introduce readers to authors they never heard of.
Callan did everything for Jos that he could do. That sex doll scene was hysterical. That's all you need to know about it. I was shocked after that scene he didn't think she was psycho.
Jos is part of a reality show that her brother is the main star of. It seems like reality shows all care about wrecking someone's life. Xavier definitely has a drinking problem but no one wants to say anything. I can't believe there was no paternity test for Michelle's baby.
I enjoyed this book just like I have enjoyed every other book by Sarah Robinson, and have equally enjoyed the Misadventure books that I've read. I loved Callan and Josie! It started as a one night stand but quickly got interesting and awkward when Josie discovered that Callan was her brother's upcoming opponent in an MMA fight. They both knew they shouldn't get involved with each other, but neither could fight the attraction. Could their one night stand turn into a relationship or will Josie's brother's animosity towards Callan get in the way?
Callan and Josie have such a hillarious and unexpected first night together. Sure things get hot and then romantic and all that, but what they do when they first meet is what stands out in my mind. So funny.
This was definitely a misadventure. Whenever I started to think, oh hey, they overcame the problem and it's on to the hea, something else popped up. I was definitely entertained. I love the way it all turns out in the end and I was surprised along the way.
First book that I read from this author and it wont be the last. Loved Callan and Josie. Great chemistry between them. Good story and wonderful characters.
I totally loved this story. From the first page to the very end, from Josie, Callan, and everyone else involved. This is a great story that will have you laughing at some of Josie and Callan's antics and leaving you crying at the things Callan and Josie go trough to get together in the end. Take the time to read this one or listen to it as I did. You will not be disappointed. I love author Sarah Robinson and her writing style with her MMA fighters and I am a sucker for these Misadventures stories are the best. I hope you enjoy this one and if you haven't read this author before, I hope you have found a new author after reading this one.
I really enjoyed Callan and Josie’s story. It starts of a little on the extreme wacky side of “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!” But their crazy night bonds them together in such a way that makes them feel like they’ve known each other for years! When they find out each other’s true identity, it changes everything for them and life happens! Can they make any kind of magic work between them? Or were their days together only a fluke? I really enjoyed this book!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I can say I liked this one way better than the Firefighter one. I finish this one fast. I can say like one-two days.
With that being said, I would like to point out that I understood both Callan and Josie's parts on the breakup. But I was not too fond of the fact that Josie thought it was okay for her to up and leave Callan on the day of the fight between her brother (Xavier) and Callan. But when he does it (well technically; he didn’t want to break up only wanted to do long distance even though he didn’t want to). It was her pushing him (Callan) away again. Like this was so typical for her when it came to him. She blamed him the second time around, forgetting Michelle pregnant. Like it was ridiculous because, for one, she left him when he didn’t want her too. & plus Josie knew that Michelle and Callan weren’t in a serious relationship. It was only, but there careers.
Plus, you could tell Callan didn’t want no Michelle. She wasn’t right for him. Especially how she reacted to certain things. Though she wanted something more with him. I was glad when Josie came to her senses and realized when she got that offer for a television show in California that she made mistakes. With running away from her feelings and not telling Callan how she felt about him. When the whole time, he proves to her how he felt about her. Even when he had to stay in California when he learned about Michelle being pregnant by him, you could tell that he got her pregnant during the time both he and Michelle was drunk. A lot of times, that happens to people (in real life I know to people in my family that happened to 🤣).
But like I was saying, I was glad she came to her senses and went to work things out with Callan when she moved to California. Because she knew she still had a feeling for him and vise versa. Plus, it was good that she accepted his daughter Alice by the model Michele. Not only that, she (Josie) ended up pregnant in the end with Callan, son. That was also good for them both, plus getting married. Though she asked him; not only that her (Josie) and Michelle worked things out with each other for the sake of Alice...
Btw:But I still can’t get over the fact that they bonded over burying a sex doll in the desert.🤣
P.S.Though, I was wondering what her race was being the author was saying something down the line like "creamy brown skin", "dark brown skin." I'm like he's (Callan) is Irish, what in the world is Josie?... I was okay. She not black, but maybe she's a Kim Kardarisan skin color, I reckon, I mean someone who's not white are those who have brown or dark skin.. unless you, get yourself a tan...
Misadventures in the Cage begins with Josie Gray having a drink in a bar off the Las Vegas strip. She is a reluctant reality-television star and just needed to get away from everything, if just for a little while. When she leaves the bar, a man approaches her and attempts to mug her. Thankfully, another man, Callan, takes care of the assailant and makes sure Josie is okay. He then offers her a ride home, which turns into a steamy one night stand.
The next morning, Josie has to head out and be with her family for her brother's press conference. She finds herself not being able to get last night and Callan out of her head. But, she has bigger fish to fry: namely her mother's behavior towards her and her brother's presser. He is an MMA fighter and the reason Josie is doing reality-television and not pursing her passion of cooking. As they arrive at the event, Josie wonders why Callan is there. Imagine her, and his, surprise when they realize who each other is: Callan is Josie's brother's opponent.
Josie and Callan speak after the event and decide it would best if they just forgot about what happened between them, but the attraction between the two of them cannot be denied. Josie knows that her family will have a conniption fit when they find out whom she is seeing. Callan needs to focus on his fight, but can't help but wonder if Josie is the one. What follows is a series of events that tear the two apart just when they thought they had everything figured out.
Misadventures in the Cage is a great story. Josie's loyalty to her family has prevented her from living her own life. Her mother is a twit and her brother is demanding and a bit of a loose cannon in the way that he lives his life. It's when Josie has finally had enough that she truly shines. Callan is driven and focused on his career, until Josie enters. The chemistry between the two of them palpable and their feelings are raw. However, when secrets are revealed and Callan is caught up in a real life drama that plays out on television, Josie leaves both her family and the television show, and Callan. When Josie is offered her dream job back in Las Vegas, the two eventually see each other and decide to give it a go again, only to have things crash and burn one more time. Of course, true love wins out in the end, but the trials and tribulations they endure will break your heart at one point and make your heart smile at another. Even though there was instant attraction, it takes almost two years for their romance to find footing and for them to work out all of their issues. I loved their story and the two of them together. If you're a romance fan, you'll not go wrong with this latest addition to the Misadventures series. Well done, Sarah Robinson! Very, very well done!
So Sarah Robinson is a new-to-me author, and this is one of the many reasons I love the Misadventures series. I have come to find some amazingly talented authors that I don't think I would have if it hadn't been for this series. This author is one of them and I am so glad that she's been added to the amazing line up of authors. I need to check out her other books. Because if they are anything like this, I know I will love them.
Josie has sat on the sidelines her whole life watching her brother become an amazing MMA fighter. It's consumed her whole life. The media, reality shows, the fame her brother has. She became his manager so of course this was all expected of her, but she started to feel in less and less control of her own life and felt as though she was spiraling out of control. Everything about her life consisted of her brother and his fighting.
One night she found herself at a bar where she meets a hot as hell man called Callan and you know how things go, one thing leads to another and they spend a lustful, fun and passionate night together but what started as a one-night stand turns into so much more when both Callan and Josie realize that Callan is the one person that can bring down her brother. Josie is the sister and manager of Callan nemesis' Xavier... It was the last thing they both expected and what's more, the connection between them is stronger than ever, and they can't seem to keep away from each other. But things are never that easy... Life is never that simple, well not for these two and what transpires throughout the book is these two fighting every obstacle that gets in their way to be together, while Callan and Xavier fight for the top title belt.
I loved this! It was such a fun read. The author didn't miss a thing and this story lacked for nothing. It was entertaining, fun, steamy and altogether an awesome enjoyable read that had me intrigued from the very beginning, I became addicted within the first few chapters and I couldn't put it down till the very end.
A Must Read and an awesome addition into the Misadventures series!
This arc was provided by the publisher via Netgalley.
This book was so promising with the idea of “falling for the enemy’s sister.” It’s a popular trope and one I’m a fan of, but it only lasted for the first half of the book. By the middle of the book, we had already jumped a full year, picking up with Cal dating a new woman. I get that Cal and Josie went their separate ways, but the author could have thrown in a second chance aspect and it would have worked. Instead, we have the man confessing his absolute love for the girl, with promises of marriage, and then an illegitimate child clouds his vision and he up and leaves her! What the heck?! On top of that, while Josie is “off finding her own way, and doing what she wants” with going to culinary school, her brother confesses to blacklisting her in Vegas. She tried for so long to get a job and her brother ruined her career. And yet, she still forgave him when he came to her graduation. What he did is crazy and selfish and shouldn’t have been forgiven. By the end of the novel, we have the original couple having their own baby, while the man shares split custody with his rebound summer fling/ baby mama and his original love being friendly with the fling. This book lacked so much. It was all over the place and moved too quickly. I was really hoping to like this book, but unfortunately it fell flat for me. Rating: 2.5/5

Misadventures in the Cage is an unexpected and passionate love story between a reality star and an MMA fighter. Sarah Robinson had me glued to the pages. She gave us a great plot with fierce characters and a few twists that made this story so intriguing.
Josie Gray is the sister of MMA fighter Xavier Gray. She is his personal assistant and a reality star. She is tired of living a life in the shadows. When she meets a sexy man that leads to one night of passion her world is turned upside down.
Callan Walsh is a beast. He is an MMA fighter who is beginning to gain more acknowledgment as he begins to win more fights. He is always focused on the prize but one night with a fiery woman makes him start thinking about a future with someone.
When Callan and Josie walk into a press conference for an upcoming fight, things get complicated. Callan is the fighter who is going to face Josie's brother in the biggest fight of both of their careers.
You can expect lots of passion when it comes to Callan and Josie. Will they be able to make things work?
I give Misadventures in the Cage 5 stars. I absolutely loved this story. From the first moment Callan and Josie met things were exciting. Their love is fierce and unique. I highly recommend this one!!
Josie had dreams for her future and they didn’t include managing his MMA career or being part of his reality tv show but this is where she finds herself having a drink and wondering where her life went off course.
Callan is starting to make a name for himself as an MMA fighter. When he sees Josie at the bar he is very attracted to her and they spend a steamy evening together. Things are about to get complicated when the next time they meet they realize they are on opposite sides as he is her brother’s adversary in the upcoming fight and that isn’t the biggest challenge they will face.
I enjoyed these characters as Josie is torn between her loyalty to her family and her love for Callan while Callan didn’t have much room in his life for anything beyond his career until Josie came crashing in his life. They share a hot chemistry, humorous banter and although they had their obstacles being able to overcome them only made their relationship that much stronger.
Misadventures in the Cage was a knockout! No matter how prepared you think you are for the events in this book, you're not. So hold on tight and enjoy the ride. I enjoyed this book SO much, and while there were factors that I wish I could erase (you'll get it once you've read the story), it was a great overall journey that I would gladly go on again and again. The characters are well-written, I loved watching them grow and develop with each chapter. So many twists and turns, that will pull you in all different directions. I'm still recovering from it, and it's been a few days.
This was my first MMA book I have read and goodness did Sarah Robinson deliver! I loved the crazy emotional roller coaster she took us on! one moment you think everything is good and were getting our happly ever after for josie and cal & then in the next second its changed and your sitting there going what the heck just happened!!!! I loved this book, i loved the twist and turns and I loved the connection between Cal & josie. I loved how comfortable they were and the sex doll was probably one of my favorite parts. I highly recommend this book, I struggled to put it down. This is a must read for sure in the misadventures series.
This series is one of my favourites and I always have expectations. However, this disappointed me so much:(
Nothing was believable. I couldn’t connect with Josie nor Callan.
There were no scenes that would make it fit for ‘misadventures’ series. Just None. No fun moments except when H and H bury a sex doll in the desert( and thats the first few pages). Later the graph goes for a dump.
And which brother blacklists his sister???? crap.
The climax! Oh my god! How does a woman accept a man who says he cannot forget her, was constantly loving her but slept with another woman and made her pregnant?!
Just not my cup or tea.

Josie Grey whole life has been consumed by her brother and his achievements in MMA and the reality show they are all on. Her life feels like it is spiraling out of her control, which leads her to a dive bar where she meets Callan Walsh. A wild night that involves a desert and cooking at 3am.
Falling for the his main rival baby sister was never in the plans. Life sometimes changes and you have to roll with it. Josie and Cal have to fight to be together as nothing is easy for the two of them. The story spans over two years as the fight to get their lives together to being one.
This was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. It had a unique and funny meet cute and I loved their chemistry.
My only criticism is that it was a little drawn out. There were a few spots where the story could've ended with its HEA but the story kept going as if Robinson was trying to get to a certain word count.
Overall, I really liked the writing style and how everything ended. I would definitely be interested in reading other works by Robinson.
Omg this book was an amazing roller coaster of emotions. From start to finish I couldn't wait to see what happened next. Josie and Callan are definitely relationship goals. The moment she found out he was her brother's opponent to the moment that his publicity girlfriend got pregnant these two were destined to be together! And to think it started with burying a sex doll!!! Sarah needs to write a sequel.
Callan is experiencing all sorts of new things with his woman, “I’ve never seen anyone cook naked before,” Callan commented, leaning against the island counter..." Callan is a bossy one, “I wasn’t asking,” he told her. “You’re a lot safer with my driver. He can come back and get me later.” I liked this book, I liked Callan.
Received this book as an ARC for my honest opinion and review from netgalley. Callan and Josie meet outside a bar when Josie is dealing with a stranger that is not taking no for an answer. He offers to drive her home and instead she asks to go home with him. The next day she finds out that he is her brothers opponent for an MMA championship fight and things get even more complicated from there.
I'd never read any of the other Misadventures series before. Since they are all from different authors. Did imagine the books different dramatically although they share a misadventure theme. This one caught my eye because it involved insta lust turned love and baby mama drama. I thought I'd crave the drama. Plus at 225 pages it's a fairly quick read thst I rented from my local library.
There was definitely drama. Josie, a reality tv dtar who supports her mma fighter brother's career has what she thought was a one night stand with Callan. Which turns into a sexual relationship as she goes back for seconds, thirds and fourths. Then she learns that Callan is her vrothers opponent in a big Vegas fight.
She feels used as a distraction untik thr fight ends. He also feels used when she drags him on her reality tv show to go on an date. She decides to move to nyc to pursue her culinary career. He has a one night stand and gets the other woman pregnant. Josie wants to have a relationship with him but can't deal with the distance and baby mama drama.
Will Callan and Josie get their happy ending?
This book was mostly tell and not show. Plus it jumped around alot in time. I didn't feel genuine emotions from either character. Lust, sure but I couldn't understand how both were sudden in desperate love with teacher as it seemed their relationship was built more on srxual chemistry without emotional attachment.
If you need an emotional rollercoaster and angst in your romance novel, then this is the book for you.
I was really digging the beginning. I love when characters have an undeniable, almost palpable connection that they don't try to fight. That's what this was. Then the complications started - Callan learns that Josie is his rival's little sister. There's a lot more waffling - mostly on her part - and some time jumps, and some other woman drama. Ugh. It was too much for my sensitive heart to bear and I had to skim the last 1/3 of the book. When Josie and Callan were actually "together" it was great - sweet and spicy, but that was not the case in the majority of the book. There is an HEA, but it didn't feel satisfying because of all the drama. I absolutely thought this story was going to go a totally different way than it did and that may be where my disappointment stems from.
I would not want to deter others from reading this - the writing was good, the characters felt real, and the spice was on point. Give it a go if you can handle more emotional turmoil than me. If you loved Say You Swear by Megan Brandy, you'll probably like this, too.
