Let's get real. I did not actually READ this enormous book, beyond the first three chapters and skimming later bits. But I then looked at the many gorgeous illustrations and read the captions. This would be a great reference book to have around. Would love it if someone would make it into a ten-part docuseries!

I was introduced to Roy Strong's work by a wonderful little inspiring book he wrote called "Small Period Gardens" which inspired me to visit nurseries and get out my shovel thousands of times.. I probably jumped when I saw this reasonably priced at The Strand . I say books and plants are my only vices, they're probably not, but they are my most deep-seated.
