After reading another book on servants in England I was curious about the differences in America. I was surprised at how few books there are on the subject. This one was really an excellent and scholarly read.

An interesting overview of the Urban vs. Rural differences in Service and the changes throughout the 19th Century. Particularly useful for all the citing of period sources and anecdotes.
