SLEEP is a psychological drama debut thriller by author M. K. Boers, that deals with the sensitive subjects of miscarriage and depression. All I can say was it was an amazing well-written emotional read. My heart went out to the protagonist, Lizzy and all that she had to deal with. One strong lady.

A marriage made in heaven… a murder made in hell.
Why kill the man you love?

Lizzy Dyson stabs and kills her adulteress husband, Tony and lover, Sally Bryant in bed together, in the matrimonial master bedroom. In one moment of passion, Lizzy’s temper explodes and she kills them both. She still loved her husband but their relationship was broken due to suffering five pregnancy miscarriages and his blatant infidelity.

Lizzy was emotional, depressed and desperate to have a baby. All she wanted was the love of her husband and a baby to complete the picture.

Everyone knew that Lizzy was struggling. He shouldn't have done those things. He shouldn't have pushed her so hard. And now, her children, her marriage, her hope - gone.

Even her best friend, Sue Andrews, knowingly and deliberately slept with Tony behind Lizzie’s back. Sue was sleeping with Tony at the beginning of his relationship with Lizzy.

Now she was in handcuffs under arrest for the murders…which she never denied. Lizzy Dyson’s on trial for her life. She knows she must pay for what she did, even if it wasn’t planned, but will the jury believe her?

This suspense-filled psychological drama, deals with the raw emotions of heartbreak and betrayal, and reveals what drives a woman to commit murder. It is not only so cut and dry. My heart went out to Lizzy for the pain and suffering that she had to endure. I totally understand how in one moment…one indiscretion …has changed her life forever.

This was an amazing read, that I won’t forget easily. Highly recommend!

Many thanks to the author, and the TBC Reviewer Request Group (FB) for my digital copy.

It's the buzzing that wakes her up. It's the flies .... those big greenish flies. They're attracted to the two bodies lying in the other room .. on the bed. Her husband and his lover ... on HER bed, in HER bedroom.

When she wakes again, there are blue flashing lights everywhere. Now she's in handcuffs. And now she's in jail ... charged with murder which she readily admits to doing.

Lizzy Dyson is on trial for her life. She knows she must pay for her acts.

What led up to the killings? Lizzy remembers it all ... and the reader is privy to those memories interspersed with the court trial of today. It's like peeking through the curtains to see and hear what's happening in your neighbor's house.

This is such a well written book about a woman who wants, no, needs, redemption. It's about a woman who was struggling for years, but where was her support, her friends, her family? The characters are outstanding, memorable. It's a heart-breaking tale that reveals what drove this woman to murder.

WARNING: This book deals with miscarriage, depression, some physical abuse on both sides.

Many thanks to the author / TBC Reviewer Request Group (FB) for the digital copy of this exceptional psychological drama. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Lizzy Dyson is being tried for the murder of her husband and she has pleaded guilty to the crime. The story covers the trial and that is when Lizzy's story comes out. Brilliantly told, I actually found myself accepting Lizzy's actions and point of view. Enjoyed it.

This was one fabulous kickass books that I have read. Lizzy Dyson was on trial for her husband Tony and his lover’s murder. That was clear to all, she pled guilty too. The jury had to decide her years of conviction, and that started the ball rolling right at the point where it all began.

My first book by M K Boers, and man, was I ambushed by emotions at every page. My suspicious mind looked at Lizzy with doubt early on, but as the story progressed, I got to know the extenuating circumstances of her life, my loyal support went to her.

I loved how the author managed to sway me with her writing. I stood waiting at the shadows rooting for Lizzy. My heart was in my throat when she gave me her side of story. This book started as a thriller for me, but soon became so much more.

It encompassed all the human emotions, the pain, fear, anger, desperation. It showed me how a woman, pushed to the limit, reached her breaking point. Each chapter showed how me how Lizzy who was alone garnered support as the events of her life were revealed.

What can I say about Lizzy – she was not the meek, docile, girly woman. She was, probably at one time, but repeated miscarriages (5 of them) and dark despair and depression made her who she was today. But she didn’t hide behind it. She was honest, brave, took responsibly of her misdeeds, and saw life from a different viewpoint. A woman who had no one post the loss of her precious babies got the support which she deserved. All credit for this characterization goes to the author.

I loved the honesty with which the author portrayed the lives of all the characters, both the main ones and other friends and relatives. Each put their stamp on this story. I can wax eloquent about Boers’s book, but it ought to be read for its genuineness and commitment to her story.

Lizzy might have killed, but she touched my heart with her innocence. A supposedly teaser of a read became my infamous midnight reads. Simply fantastic!!

Hmmm… I think it was obvious that I liked the book. In case it was not, I would like to say – I loved the book.

Lizzy is on trial for killing her husband and his lover.Lizzy knew what she did was wrong, and I really enjoyed how the story unfolded and the court case.
It was really well put together. As she awaits her sentence and undergoes her trial, all the events that contributed to put her where she is are brought out I thought the court scenes were fascinating.
Well worth reading :)

This book will stay with me for a long time.

Lizzy's story will break your heart. I know it's fiction but I felt everything Lizzy was going through, the sensitive nature of the story is written in a way that you can't help feeling Lizzy's pain, it's hard to stopping reading. I didn't want to read the ending because I was worried about the outcome and how Lizzy would cope with the verdict. It's a book for everyone..

Sleep is the story of a woman, Lizzy, on trial for murdering her husband and his lover. Don’t worry, that’s not a spoiler! This novel works in reverse, retelling the events that led to Lizzy’s trial.

Although this is not a genre I typically read, the story is very well written and provides a glimpse into what drives a person to commit murder.

If you enjoy psychological crime novels then I’d highly recommend you check this out!

TILLDEATH DO US PART

What would you be like after five miss carriages? How would you feel if the response of your husband was sleeping with other women? What if you came home from work and found your husband having sex with another women in your own bedroom? What would you do?

Very thought provoking book..I even had dreams related to it. I love that the characters had depth- good and bad, with histories that molded their thoughts and actions. I really enjoyed this book even with it dealing with a heavy topic because the characters were so realistic.

Good pace

It was pretty straightforward. We learned about who Lizzy is, what happened, and her coming back to herself. The story kept to Lizzy and her past, her thoughts, kept me engaged. Didn't put in a lot of unnecessary details. Was very realistic in how it was handled. And I liked that we ended on a good note, that her issues were resolved and she was able to move forward.

Fantastic writing

The way this story was written made me enjoy it so much more. The flashbacks gave insight into how Lizzy came to do what she did.

MK Boers first book (under this pen name) a psychological thriller is a well-balanced story; telling the tale of Lizzy’s idyllic marriage to Tony fading into a nightmare. The result of repeated personal tragedies and insensitive goading and eventual neglect. The lead character is as alive as you or me and the author leaves no stone unturned at furnishing her reader with the background to Lizzy’s tale of undoing. Every character included leads you to know Lizzy more; whilst being introduced to her friends and family members from over the years, and walking with her on her journey through both good and bad. The portrayal of her husband Tony and his side kick Stu are developed expertly through the book building the tension and questions as you read; the epilogue adding polish to an already shining piece of writing. Quite frankly the story seems to write itself, effortlessly, assisted wholly by the author’s eloquent fluent writing style that gives awareness to this difficult and emotional subject even with its dark theme. Lizzy’s story is one that you will not forget quickly; in a book that you will not put down.

Sleep is an excellent psychological thriller, following the thoughts of Lizzy as she looks back at the circumstances that led to her murdering her husband and his lover in their marital bed.

The writing style is flawless, at times brutal and stripped back, then switching up to almost lyrical descriptive prose depending on where we are in the narrative, and as a writer myself, I admired the skill with which it was done.

Just as in life, there are no cardboard characters or easy answers here, just reflections on the slow disintegration of a marriage pushed to the brink by grief, emotional abuse, infidelity and manipulation.

Despite Sleep being a gripping novel about heartache, loss and a grisly murder, it's compassionate, sensitively realised and at times even uplifting.

Sleep isn't my usual genre of choice, but the writing is such high quality with excellent pacing and suspense, and well realised characters, so I'd definitely read more by the author.

This was sort of a novel in reverse, in the sense that it starts off with a crime and we know who is responsible and it then details how the protagonist got there.
Lizzy is on trial for the murder of her husband and the woman he was cheating on her with.
As she awaits her sentence and undergoes her trial, all the events that contributed to put her where she is are brought out.
The importance of support in times of emotional distress as well as the need to reach out for help are highlighted throughout.
Lizzy was hurting and her marriage was only in name and though many around her knew, no one really got involved.
The fact that a sane, normal individual can be driven to commit such an act is the shocking reality that is brought out bit by bit.
Not so much a thriller as a psychological exploration of the human psyche, this was an interesting read.

This story absolutely grabbed me by the throat, on the first page, and did not let go! It was an emotional roller coaster of sorts, with an awesome main character Lizzie being so awful and yet, you have to read to find out. Amazingly written, this story will haunt you for a while after finishing the story.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Disturbing and twisted, Sleep by M. K. Boers is a psychological thriller that will force you to sympathize with a murderer.

Warning: This book deals with topics (abuse, mental illness, miscarriages) that might be challenging for some readers.

Description from Amazon:
A marriage made in heaven, a murder made in hell.

Why kill the man you love?

A whydunnit rather than a whodunnit, Sleep follows a woman on trial for killing her husband and his lover. Was it premeditated, a crime of passion, or a moment of madness? Told through a series of flashbacks and testimony, the struggles that Lizzy Dyson faced are revealed.

A suspense-filled psychological thriller, domestic noir, and courtroom drama. Sleep is a story about heartbreak and betrayal, and reveals what can drive a woman to murder.

Plenty to love in this and plenty to be iffy about too. I thought the story was very well done and going into the understanding of why Lizzy did what she did made you really wonder what kind of place she was in to feel like that. How far a person had to be pushed to do what she did. Don’t get me wrong – she still committed murder and did some dodgy actions herself, but it is interesting to see exactly where the breaking point was. It makes you question what you would do if everyone around you was laughing at you knowing your husband was sleeping around and telling you to “get over” five miscarriages.

The things that were iffy were, first, the grammar and punctuation mistakes. Gosh, but they were off-putting. Nothing like interrupting the flow of reading when things jump out at you. Then, as other reviewers mentioned, a lot of conversations were repeated and you ended up skipping over sections. The court proceedings could have used a bit of an overhaul too.

But overall I enjoyed the story as it was a different take on a woman who knows she is guilty and how she got there. I guess the title had to do with her being asleep her whole life and only waking up when she is finally ready to face the truth.

The reader discovers Lizzie murdered her unfaithful husband and his girlfriend at the beginning of the book. We slowly find out how this could have happened as Lizzie faces a trial where she hopes mitigating circumstances will lessen her jail term. We discover that five miscarriages, a verbally abusive husband and no social support are among the factors that led to Lizzie’s breakdown.

At first I didn’t think this novel would interest me, but it did despite the fact that there was far too much repetition.

"Sleep" (2019) by by M K Boers, is an absorbing novel that, as the blurb states, is a whydunnit, not a whodunnit. The first chapter identifies Lizzy Dyson as the scorned wife who stabs her husband and his lover to death when she discovers them having sex in the bed she shares with her husband. The novel describes the trial to determine why Lizzy murdered two people and the background story of Lizzy’s tumultuous life with her husband as she sees if she might be allowed leave prison someday. Solidly recommended.

Not very good

I gave this a star because it was free and I finished it.
Boring and repetitive I read it in the hope something would happen.
The writer had no knowledge of court procedures, there is no jury if the culprit had pleaded guilty.
Recently I read another book which had a similar theme but was much better with believable characters, therefore I expected to enjoy this but sadly didnt.

Lizzy murdered her husband and the woman he was having an affair with. We follow Lizzy after she gets arrested and her time in the psychiatric ward and her realizing that though she did kill her husband and his lover, she may have been pushed over the edge with her multiple miscarriages and emotional and physical abuse she suffered. It was an ok book, but was quite repetive and a little boring and drawn out at times.

Fantastic! A deep and intriguing story set in England about a woman who goes through some very challenging experiences and her journey through it all. I just wanted to keep reading to see what would happen next. This book will challenge you to think about the main character’s dilemma and her responses to it.

SLEEP

This book was very compelling! I felt like I was there with Lizzie during her entire ordeal, feeling what she felt. I hated Reedy as much as Lizzie did! The ending felt like Lizzie was finally going to be able to live her life again. I would advise anyone to read this book. It really puts you in the mind of a “killer”.

Mind Trauma

In this book the reader follows the marriage of Lizzy and Tony. Tony treats her like crap when he is around his guy friends, and he cheats on her with other women. It traumatized her to the point that she kills him and his lover when she finds them in her bed. The book was interesting, but the repetition of her stories at least three times was not needed.
