This is not a review of the Master Index, but some brief comments on this Time-Life set as a whole. The Civil War series is remarkable even more than 30 years after it was published. Recent scholarship has dated some of the points made in several volumes, but the scope and ambition the series embodies is commendable. This series is an amazing achievement.
