That was extremely moving! The saddest story about giant crystal serpent ever. <-- not sarcasm. Sugiura's ability to briefly introduce a characters, even non-human ones, and make the reader feel for them is truly impressive.

been awhile since i read this so i'm sure i was missing some of what was happening but i liked this whole thing with the giant snakes and the creation of rivers. 3 stars
Rakan, Chigusa, Narushige and Tohji along with stonewolf and koh the snake continue their epic journey. They come to a community who try and sacrifice them to a giant snake which gives Narusige a poignant flashback to when his mother did the same thing to him in the Imperial capital.
The giant snakes are dying and turning into rivers.
Some nice creation myths going on here - beautiful artwork and I love the subtle way this links things together we have Rakan/Narushige sacrificed to a snake in present time, linked to Narushige sacrificed in his childhood and his sister Sae also having her own encounter with a serpent.
Really enjoying this series - common manga themes of ecology, friendship, BL, good vs. evil, parallel worlds and hope vs despair are all here but woven in a new and interesting way.
