BlackMoon Reaper is book number eight in Charlotte Boyett-Compo's Western Wind series. The series features paranormal elements in the form of special soldiers with impressive weapons that protect humans called reapers. The reapers all have a territory and occasionally come together to meet at a central location or come to the aid of another brother reaper. I do recommend that you read previous titles but it's not absolutely necessary. This book would work fine as a stand alone title.
This story is the one of brother reaper, Phelan Kiel. Phelan has always been teased by his fellow reapers regarding his sexual orientation. He took all teasing in stride and neither acknowledged nor denied their remarks. This story captured my attention immediately. I have read all of the previous books in the series, and I knew that Phelan was a little mysterious and very little was known about him. I looked forward to learning more about him. Maybe you can tell I am totally vested in this series. I feel like I'm part of the reaper family. This book, as had the others, drew me directly into the plot and before I knew it was sneaking peeks at the story during my breaks and staying up late to finish the book.
As Phelan is trying to solve a mystery regarding the townspeople he is intrigued by a mysterious gunman, Fontabeau Sorn. Fontabeau is attracted to Phelan and determined to make sure that Phelan wants what he's offering. Phelan's quest takes him into the path of a madame, Lucy Louise Springbrook. Lucy-Lou likes what she sees and decides she wants the reaper to be her forever lover. My heart went out to Phelan while reading this book. His suffering was just unimaginable. I loved the brotherhood, protectiveness, and love that the other reapers displayed towards Phelan and his mate. The storyline was full of twists and turns and even one of the Shadowlords with authority over the reapers has to endure his own kind of suffering, humiliation, and pain to forge a new loving relationship with an unlikely person. The story had intrigue, adventure, suspense, and an abundance of no holds barred lovemaking. Boyett-Compo is a master at writing tasteful, detail oriented love scenes that make the reader feel a naughty--like you are a voyeur---but you can't turn away.

I have read most of Charlotte Boyett-Campo’s reaper books and I have never been disappointed and Black Moon Reaper is no exception. From the first page we are immersed into the carefully constructed world of the Western Wind series.
Phelan has no desire for a mate, no desire to feel love, he’s been down that road and doesn’t plan on visiting again. When he finds out about a new mining community which has sprung up in his territory he has to check it out. Coming face to face with a mysterious stranger and then the verdant eyes of the beautiful Lucy, Phelan knows he's in trouble.
Lucy is a madam and has been a prostitute since she was sold into it at age 12. Her life has been hard and cruel but when she lays eyes on Phelan it all disappears and a longing she has never known surges through her.
The attraction which Phelan feels for Lucy is so strong he can’t resist, but he knows he has a job to do. He needs to investigate the strange goings on in the town and up at the mine. He has company in the mysterious Beau Sorn, who makes it known that he would like nothing more than to claim Phelan for himself. Between the two Phelan has more feelings coming at him that he can handle, but he pushes it all aside to carry out his mission - find out what is going on down at the mine.
Black Moon Reaper is one surprise after another. Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out then Ms. Campo throws you another loop and you’re off again on another wild ride. I love these reaper stories, can’t get enough of them in fact and I hope that Ms. Campo never runs out of ideas for this wonderful series of series. Wonderful world building, strong relatable characters, strong plot development and of course some extremely scorching sex scenes all combine to make Black Moon Reaper one hell of a story!

Phelan likes to keep his teammates guessing, Fontabeau Sorn has a secret, and Lucy is a Madam and right proud of her ability to turn a man inside out. Three hearts but only two will find their passions igniting into a raging inferno in this riveting paranormal romance.
The reader can’t help but get caught up in the sizzling passion and gripping emotional turmoil that flows from the pages as Phelan, Beau and Lucy reach for their happily ever after. Lots of sizzling chemistry and scorching sex scenes with some sensual m/m interaction but even with all the chemistry, only two will come together. The characters are strong, captivating and grab the reader’s attention right from the beginning while the fast paced, smooth flowing plot pulls readers in with suspense, turmoil, excitement and romance.
Suspense and intrigue builds as Phelan and Beau discover that something strange is going on in a mine and the excitement builds as the danger escalates because some of the Reaper’s many enemies have set up a diabolical operation that could cost them all their lives. Unexpected twists keep everyone on their toes including the Shadow Lords and this new threat has Morrigunia bringing in additional help. The intriguing events draw the reader in and refuse to let go while the well written scenes and vivid details make it easy for the readers to become immersed in the story.
I was completely flabbergasted by this story as it is a bit different from the others that I have read so far and it didn’t go quite how I thought it was going to which certainly kept me guessing and then there were new characters introduced and secrets revealed that changes things quite a bit for the Reapers and I can’t wait to read the next book.

When given information about a bit of trouble in Haxton Cove, where a new mine full of rubies supposedly has opened up, Reaper Phelan Kiel decides to check things out and make sure that the people in his territory are safe and free of crime...
