About the author

Michael Andreas Helmuth Ende was a German writer of fantasy and children's literature. He was the son of the surrealist painter Edgar Ende.

Ende was one of the most popular and famous German authors of the 20th century, mostly due to the enormous success of his children's books. However, Ende was not strictly a children’s author, as he also wrote books for adults. Ende claimed, "It is for this child in me, and in all of us, that I tell my stories," and that "[my books are] for any child between 80 and 8 years" (qtd. Senick 95, 97). Ende’s writing could be described as a surreal mixture of reality and fantasy. The reader is often invited to take a more interactive role in the story, and the worlds in his books often mirror our reality, using fantasy to bring light to the problems of an increasingly technological modern society.

Ende was also known as a proponent of economic reform, and claimed to have had the concept of aging money in mind when writing Momo. He was interested in and influenced by anthroposophy.

Die unendliche Geschichte (The Neverending Story) is Ende's best known work. Other books include Momo and Jim Knopf und Lukas der Lokomotivführer (Jim Button and Luke the Engine Driver). Michael Ende's works have been translated into more than 40 languages and sold more than 20 million copies, and have been adapted into motion pictures, stage plays, operas and audio books.

He died in Stuttgart of stomach cancer.

خلاصه‌ای از ابتدای این کتاب ۵۰ صفحه‌ای که پتانسیل زیادی برای بحث داره: نوربرت وایساده سر برکه (شما بخونین گردنه) و هرکی رد میشه رو یه شاخ می‌زنه و گردن‌کلفتی می‌کنه همه‌ش. آدما نمی‌تونن از اون اطراف رد شن، و نمی‌تونن آب بخورن و ... بعد با هم جلسه‌ای می‌ذارن تا ببینن چیکار می‌تونن بکنن که از این معضل عبور کنند. هرکسی یه نظری می‌ده و هر کدوم از اون نظرها به دلایلی رد می‌شن. یکی پیشنهاد می‌ده بیاین فرار کنیم و بریم جایی که نوربرت نباشه. همه بهش حمله می‌کنن که این دیگه چه حرفیه؟ که همون لحظه نوربرت میاد و جمعیت رو متفرق می‌کنه و تهدیدشون می‌کنه که می‌زنم لت‌وپارتون می‌کنما. برای من نقشه نریزید... و بعد به مرور همه کم‌کم می‌رن از اون سرزمین. فقط یه پرنده می‌مونه، که نقشهٔ هوشمندانه‌ای برای نوربرت می‌کشه و باقی ماجرا...

یه کمی ترسناک بود برام و تا حد زیادی سیاسی. یه کمی شبیه بن‌بست. و خب از این جهات ناراحت شدم و نمی‌دونم چه جور حسی می‌تونم بهش داشته باشم. می‌دونم که نگاه فردی و مواجهه با خود هم میشه بهش داشت... اما... اما بقیه حیوون‌ها فرار کردن از دست نوربرت. به زبون ما: مهاجرت کردن. اینقدری اذیت شدن و هیچ راهی نبود، که فرار رو به قرار ترجیح دادن. اینجا من دیگه برام مهم نبود که نوربرت تنبیه شد و با خودش مواجه شد و دگرگون شد. اون حیوونایی که از محل زندگیشون طرد شدن چی شدن؟

اصلاً من رو جذب نكرد. مخصوصاً اينكه خيلى تعريف ازش شنيده بودم و از اسم و رسم نويسنده هم نميشد گذشت. بيشتر شبيه يك حكايت آموزنده از كليله و دمنه بود. پايان داستان هم بيش از اندازه شعارى ميشد كه به هيچ وجه سليقه ى من نيست.
به نظرم تصاوير هم اصلاً خوب نبودن و حتى در صفحه بندى هم اونطور كه بايد و شايد در جاى درستى قرار نگرفته بودن.

Die Ausgabe lebt vor allem von den großformatigen Illustrationen, die die Charaktere und Gefühlslagen der Tieren hervorragend einfangen und damit die Geschichte hervorragend veranschaulichen.

Norbert Nackendick vergrault alle anderen Tiere, die schließlich das Weite suchen. So bleibt Norbert ganz allein zurück - und nimmt am Ende vor sich selbst Reißaus. Auch Kinder vielleicht noch nicht alle Feinheiten der Geschichte erfassen können, können sie doch verstehen, dass es besser ist friedlich miteinander zu leben statt zu allen gemein und dann allein zu sein. Die Vorschläge der Tiere, wie man Norbert loswerden könnte, wirken auf den ersten Blick witzig, haben dann aber doch alle einen Haken - und das ist auch gut so, denn Gewalt ist bekanntlich keine Lösung.

Ein schönes Buch, das man aber mit jüngeren Kindern nicht unkommentiert lesen sollte. Bei uns gab es jedenfalls schon während des Lesens und auch noch danach einige Diskussionen über Absichten und Verhalten der Tiere.

اینکه خیال میکنم داستان نوربرت، داستان خودم بود، خیلی دردآور به نظر میرسد.
اما این داستان چهل-پنجاه صفحه ای که من برای پسر شش ساله ام خواندم، میتواند کتاب مورد علاقه و مطالعۀ هر انسان بالغی هم باشد. لذتبخش و تکان دهنده.
