Dispirited after a recent breakup, Irish project manager Trevor is guilted into a trip to Brussels with his best friend. A chance meeting with cute and funny tour guide Jerome turns into a weekend of sex and friendship. Forgetting his phone at Jerome’s apartment shifts their fling into a long-distance relationship held together by postcards, texts, and stolen weekends. But distance isn’t the only thing keeping them apart—Trevor is a workaholic who values his success, while artistic Jerome is carefree but insecure.

Emy Calirel grew up in France, but also spent some time in Africa as a child. When she finally reached adulthood, she jumped on opportunities and moved to California, then Ireland, before coming back to her roots. San Francisco still holds her heart, though, and always will.

After trying a couple different jobs, she settled down and now works in a funeral home/monumental masonry, which she loves. To handle life’s daily stress, she laughs with her coworkers a lot and spends any free time she gets reading or daydreaming about queer folks finding their happily ever after.

She’s a cat owner, a plant killer, and a San Francisco Giants fan. Wanderlust flows in her veins, and her goal is to visit every capital in Europe—if she can ever stop herself from going back to London over and over again.

Emy’s muse is a sassy being who expertly farms plot bunnies in Emy’s overgrown imagination. As a consequence, Emy has more stories and characters living in her head than she’ll ever be able to write in her lifetime. She’s fine with it, though, as, like a child, she loves playing in her sandbox.

A documentary enthusiast and curious to a fault, Emy often loses herself in research and will happily share her discoveries with everyone. Did you know most mammals empty their bladders in twenty-one seconds?

I’ve always wanted to read romance involving long-distance relationship. Don’t ask me to explain why, I just want it. When I read the blurb for this one, I was intrigued. Trevor and Jerome meet in Brussels: Trevor joins a local city tour where Jerome is the tour guide. They hit it off, planning to have one night-stand, but it turns into something more with texts, phone calls, postcards, and weekend visits.

For the most part, I liked the story. I thought the long-distance set up was good and believable. Good thing that they both live in Europe, so the weekend visit is more likely compared to across continents, I guess. I enjoyed the setting in Brussel too – one of the European cities I want to visit someday.

However, I also thought that both Trevor and Jerome had personal issues that weren’t fully communicated when they were together. Trevor nurturing heartbreak and anger after his four-years relationship fell apart (the other guy definitely only use Trevor for his career!) while Jerome’s previous relationship also ended badly, with his lover lied to him the whole time. Not to mention they had different economic status – Trevor had more money than Jerome – fueled with Trevor’s workaholic nature.

I guess I wasn’t completely satisfied with “the sharing moments” between the two. Like there were new ripples every time they met during the weekend visits. Then suddenly POOF, it was the last chapter and things went well. Well, I just needed MORE chapters of them working out their problems before arriving to that last chapter. Maybe the author had limitation for words because From Brussel, with Love is part of Dreamspinner’s World of Love series (they usually are shorter than novels) *shrugged*

In "From Brussels with Love," one of the MCs (Jerome) is basically a part-time tour guide and through him, the author does an admirable job in portraying life in Brussels, Belgium and giving us historical information. Throughout the book we get a keen sense of the setting and I like how this book exemplifies The World of Love series from Dreamspinner Press.

I also like the basics of the plot - Trevor and Jerome meet during Trevor's vacation / forced leave from work and have a steamy holiday fling. Upon Trevor's return home, the two men continue to talk and text and this begins a series of short weekend visits. There's a lot of hot sex and you can sense the chemistry between the two men, but I never felt I really knew either character and with that lack of in-depth character development, the love story between Trevor and Jerome did not engage me as much as the setting. Although the book was relatively short, I had to struggle to stay engaged in the plot and romance.

Without belaboring the fact, I think I'm simply going to have to say this may be a perfect example of "It's not YOU .... it's ME." Please take this review with a huge helping of "Your Mileage May Vary." 3.5 stars for "From Brussels, With Love."

3.5 stars - fun to see a realistic long distance relationship portrayed, with all the excitement and challenges. I loved how Trevor and Jerome supported and helped each other become better versions of themselves.

This was a pretty good story. There were some bumps in the roads, as long distance can make things difficult, but when you come from different cultures and different lifestyles, it can make it even harder. They had some tough things to deal with but to make things work, they had to do it or walk away.
Trevor’s work always seems to come first. And now it really does since his breakup with his ex. Having to hide being gay at work makes it even harder now, since his ex works there and his new fling. It’s all a big mess, and in order to get him out of his funk, his best friend Hannah, makes him take a short vacation to Brussels with her while she works. He didn’t want to and was really not happy about it, but it ended up causing him to take a tour where he met a guide that made things a lot more interesting. Thinking it would just be a weekend fling, they had a great time. But when Trevor left his phone, Jerome left his number in it, in hopes that maybe they could be friends. But it ended up starting to become more. As Trevor spent as much free time as he could with Jerome, things were getting tough. They really didn’t know each other, it was awkward with each others friends, very bad with Trevor’s parents, and Trevor’s job and ex seemed to take too much time. Plus, Jerome was unhappy in his plans with life as well. So it was a huge mess. And the end came at a misunderstanding when things got too scary for everyone and it got them smacked in the face. And there may be no coming back from it.
Long distance relationships have a hard time working. I admire people who can make them work. I don’t see how it’s possible to be honest. You never learn much about each other, someone is always gone. There’s just so much that can go wrong. And in this case, that’s what happened. They honestly didn’t know each other well enough to be ready for something serious and when things got to the point of love, they were encroaching on each other’s territories, so to speak and it left things bad. Real bad. And a lot could have been fixed with better communication. Eventually, they did talk and it helped, but they had to make some compromises and work a lot out. And coming from bad exes just made things that much harder to trust.
It’s not a bad story, but it’s filled with some angst. It’s hard being worlds apart, or so it seems. Hell, sometimes it’s just hard being in the same room. But there has to be communication, trust and a whole lot more to make it work.

I mean, who doesn’t like a good vacation fling? They’re both single, and when in Brussels...Rome isn’t the only city to try new things in!

Having been forced on a vacation, by a well meaning friend, Trevor meets Jerome on a tour of Brussels. These men are opposites, live in different places, but they had chemistry, and a connection was formed. When Trevor goes home, the connection just continues to grow. Too bad the communication doesn’t. While both men are interested in pursuing it, problems and obstacles keep arising. It becomes a matter of how much do you really want this?

This book was a good read, and enjoyable. I’m not a fan of Trevor’s ex, but he’s an ex for a reason! Good riddance. I did like Trevor and Jerome, and felt like they were fun to root for.

From Brussels With Love is the first long distance romance I have read and I really enjoyed it. The idea of omg for the tour guide was so cute. I love the way the met up again after the tour, and the way Jerome found you stay in contact. I would describe it as faulty low angst, but not comedy either. It definitely has funny moments but it’s more built on the slow burn of their relationship which I really enjoyed.

Trevor & Jerome are so different but this story is all about how they can balance each other, and be good for each other. It’s very sweet and a beautiful connection. Through each other they are able to each find ways to heal their broken hearts. If you like slow burn romance I think you’ll really enjoy this book.

This was one of those books that I didn't want to end. It was just lovely. I’ve loved my short visits to Brussels, so I thoroughly enjoyed all the meandering walks Jerome and Trevor took as they explored the city and got to know one another. I thought Brussels was a beautiful backdrop to use for their budding romance and I think the author definitely did it justice. The story was well-written and engaging, and the characters were both so charming, even if they were frustratingly stubborn at times.

Jerome and Trevor were very different people who met by chance on a holiday weekend. Long-distance relationships are not easy at the best of times. But once things between them began to evolve, the distance was the least of their troubles. As they navigated painful past breakups, family issues, and stressful work environments, they could have easily gone their separate ways. But they had to weigh these challenges against their insane chemistry, easy friendship, and deep love that had developed between them.

There was nothing flashy or overly dramatic about this story. It was just a solid, realistic relationship that took some hard work to make successful and I love books like this.

I hate it in a romance when our characters go to a country or a city and we never get any real feel for the place and it contributes nothing to the romantic atmosphere. That is not the case here. Calirel uses Brussels to real advantage in developing the relationship between Trevor and Jerome. These two are convinced they don't want or need any long term relationship after both have gotten out of bad ones but time together changes their opinion about that. I loved Brussels, I loved these two guys and I loved the gentle way the author led them to trusting and falling in love again. A comforting, gentle blanket of a love story.

This book shows the difficulties of a long distance relationship and of different expectations in a relationship.

I enjoyed the setting of Brussels.

I read Jerome's history with his mother and some ex, but I didn't feel like I knew him as well as I knew Trevor. I could see and feel the unpleasant people around Trevor such as his boss and Ronan, and the pleasant ones such as Hannah.

I will re-read this when i want to spend time again in Brussels.

This Eurocentric novel, set primarily in Brussels, involves an Irish project manager Trevor and a Belgian artist Jerome. Meeting on a tour in the Belgian capital, a long distance relationship evolves. The trials of separation strongly pulled me in, and I firmly pitched in for these men to find their HEA. Calirel evokes the cities of Brussels and Dublin so well that I felt like I was walking around those streets. The scenes of passion litter through the tale, graphic and varied, steaming the pages.

Trevor is dragged to Brussels by his best friend. He meets Jerome and they have a weekend fling. Both are anti-relationship. But they begin a long-distance relationship. One that seems to work for them. This was really good, had a realistic feel to it. It had a several feel-good emotions, well written. Loved it. I knew, as soon as I saw the title of this story, that I had to read it. I have family in Belgium and have been there many times, although not since I left England some years ago. This is a delightful story, I totally loved it, both men are completely adorable, and patient in their long distance relationship. There is some angst, it was expected, this kind of romance is a real strain and something had to give.

From Brussels, With Love is a sweet long distance romance.
It's a tale with distance and work as the main obstacles.
Their story also includes a homophobic boss and a pushy ex boyfriend.
It's a tale of learning to adjust one's priorities.

I wanted to absolutely love this book, but okay. There's nothing wrong with it, but it didn't consume me at all.

From a weekend fling to a happily ever after, Trevor and Jerome had to work hard to not only overcome their differences but also pursue their long-distance relationship. This was a sweet romance with a bit of a rushed happily ever after.

Trevor is trying to recover from a bad heartbreak, but it’s difficult when he still works with his ex and a large project forces them to keep in contact. In a serious funk, Trevor lets himself get bullied by his best friend into a short trip to Brussels. He doesn’t expect to enjoy himself, but is surprised when he feels an instant and strong connection to his walking tour guide, Jerome. What starts as a weekend of fun and a sexy fling turns into a long-distance texting relationship and soon both men are finding their lives change in ways neither ever expected. Can Jerome and Trevor find their way together?

I found this to be a fun and deliciously slow-moving sexy romance. I was pleased the fuller length of the story allowed the author to really show us Trevor and Jerome’s characters – where they were in their lives and what kind of people they were individually – before we watched them connect, click together and start to form their relationship. While at times I felt the pace between them was a little slow, it was also understandable as Trevor in particular was still not in a good place from his recent breakup. I feel the slow burn and gradual build up of the relationship might be a little slow for some readers. While it made the story a lot more realistic to me, and the connection and emotion between the two men was very well drawn, I did at times feel that there was a little too much hesitancy on each man’s side and this allowed small flutters of doubt creep into my mind.

I really enjoyed the men’s characters. They felt well drawn, emotional and realistically complex. I also was pleased that the author didn’t have Trevor hang around and turn his very brief holiday into a longer-term thing right away. That would have been something very easy for the author to do to push the romance between the men, but I feel the book and the plotline was far stronger for giving Jerome and Trevor a bit of space and time. I feel this “away from each other” section on the book was very well handled.

Readers looking for a deeply emotional book should really love this. I enjoyed reading about Trevor and Jerome as they connected with each other, eased each other’s hurts and most importantly learned about one another’s lives. This book is filled with interesting facts about Ireland and Brussels and I feel the author was really deft handling these facts – not info-dumping on the reader but weaving it skillfully into the story. The connection and emotion between the two men is absolutely the highlight for me of the story and goes a long way to making me want to pick up more stories by this author.

A strongly written, lovely full length story this is a great read.

MMy Thoughts and Review:
🌈 Trevor & Jerome

Thank Goddess for meddling best friends and fate/ happy circumstance!

Trevor's best friend packs him up in the middle of the night and whisks him away with her to Brussels to keep him from moping in his apartment, tending the wounds of a broken heart. She then sends him on a guided tour where he meets a very charming guide, Jerome.

Jerome's best friend wants to see him happy so desperately, after his being alone for years, that he is constantly setting him up on blind dates. None of them ever end well. It is after one such disastrous date that Jerome runs into Trevor again.

After a weekend that was supposed to be a fun-filled, no strings, or last names, "one-off," thanks to a mislaid cellphone the sparks across countries continue. Lucky for us too, or we wouldn't have such a delightful journey to travel with Jerome and Trevor.

As with any good storytelling you find yourself invested in the world and characters the author creates, and Emy Calirel does such a fantastic job weaving this tale that you could see and feel the emotions of the MCs through each experience.

This isn't a book of fluff, but of real life and real life drama and situations between two people who are as different as they are similar. Even knowing this is an HEA, it's the journey that is the most important, not the ending. Even though that's pretty great too!

This was an okay read, but I think both the characters and the plot could have been a little better developed. I didn’t feel the magic between the MC’s and their romance fell a bit flat for me. A couple of weekends don’t a relationship make. Their annoyances and differences are glossed over, allowed to fester and throw a wrench into things at far too late a stage in the story. Some of the writing also felt too over the top, with overly dramatic, cliché plots and reactions from the MC’s and even sometimes from the secondary characters.

I’m from Belgium so I was curious to see how the author would incorporate Brussels/Belgium into the story, but unfortunately I didn’t get much of a Belgian feel from either the setting or the Belgian characters, apart from a little name-dropping of touristy places and a little bit of French thrown in. The setting didn’t feel authentic to me.

Starting with a weekend fling in Brussels, Trevor and Jerome unexpectedly keep in touch, and their long-distance relationship helps them navigate all the things that aren't going well with their lives - homophobic bosses and families, a fledgling new business, and unrealized dreams.

While Trevor and Jerome hook up early in the book, the steam level increases as time goes on, and we get some really gratifying lines:

“You look too good for me to have any virtue left.”

It was different with Jerome. Sex between them was about giving and taking. About finding pleasure in making the other one find his own. It was mixing sex and feelings, and it was terrifying.

The writing is great and both characters develop and grow while facing the challenges of a long-distance relationship.

I received an advanced copy of this book for feedback and review.

Good read, great example of making it work and of opposites attracting.

There wasn't a lot of Brussels information, I was hoping for types of food, culture, etc. :(
