The Best Friend Problem is cute. So cute without OTT drama/ twist. I like this kind of rom com. Miss Ankenman knows how to bring sassy comedy into her work. Her writing style reminds me of Emma Chase.

The chemistry and banter between Finn and Pru is cute, sweet and funny. Especially Finn. He is such a sweetheart. His fear of being a dad captures nicely.

Overall a very enjoyable book.

Are you two kidding? You think Finn and I have been in love with each other for years but have been too scared to do anything about it?”

That about sums it up.

Finn and Pru have been best friends since their awkward adolescent days. Sure, they both admit to the other’s hotness, but the idea of moving beyond friendship never seems to occur to either one of them. Plus, who wants to take the chance of ruining a decades long friendship.

All of that seems to change when Pru tells Finn she’s decided to become a mommy, willing partner be damned. Girlfriend’s single and ready to mingle with the best sperm her fertility clinic has to offer.

Something seems to snap in these two because before Finn can help Pru choose juuuust the right sperm donor, he’s already taken care of it himself via a wrestling match gone wild. And naked.

While The Best Friend Problem didn’t wow me, I ended up enjoying it as a whole. Finn is wonderful and I loved how sweet he was with Pru, even though that kind of relationship was totally out of his wheelhouse. I loved Pru’s relationship with her girl besties and welcome the chance to read their future stories. I also loved the banter between all of the characters.

I never really found myself warming to Pru, which I think attributes to my rounding down to a three star rather than up to a four. She didn’t annoy me, exactly, but it took her an awfully long time to open up to the goodness that was Finn and all (be it inelegantly) he was offering her.

Overall, The Best Friend Problem ended up being an entertaining, lighthearted read. The friends to lovers trope still remains a favorite of mine and, in spite of Pru’s mental stubbornness, I really enjoyed her and Finn together.

This was a light read with a feel good, happy ever after, and would make the perfect beach read. It was something that you could just enjoy and not think too hard about. I say that as both a positive and a negative. It provided me cute (if somewhat predictable) main characters: a sweet, sexy fireman, and a control-freak who learns that sometimes life has its own plans. It had wonderful best friends, and a friends-to-lovers trope that is always enjoyable. On the flip side, it also provided me with a pretty predictable story which somewhat prevented me from loving this book. I think I may be overly hard on The Best Friend Problem because I have been through a period where I’ve gotten lucky on well researched, intricately plotted stories that have swept over the span of a lifetime. They’ve created entire worlds that seem real enough for me to touch and envision these people as living, breathing creatures. With this book, I’ve gotten two dimensional characters that only exist in the settings in which they are described. They don’t live on when I close the book, and I want that! I want backstories that are more realistic. I also want explanations for things that the storyline hinges upon. For example, why did Pru need to go through IVF if she wanted a baby? I was told that she risked not being able to get pregnant later, but since she was only 28 I felt I was owed an explanation for this crucial plot tool that never came.

Finally, I wanted situations that felt more complex than those I got. Pru’s best friends were cute and sweet. But they were caricatures. One is the control freak, one the free spirit. Pru, the eternal mom with plans and lists, rounded out the trio. She wanted to manage every situation according to plan, and when she couldn’t, she panicked. So much so that when she becomes pregnant by her best friend, Finn, she can’t seem to transition from her original plan of using a sperm donor. Finn essentially became the sperm donor in the way she treated him, with the babies always being hers, never theirs. I found this to be convenient and somewhat naïve.

As I said, I may be unduly hard on The Best Friend Problem, because for what it was, it was sweet. It was a cute, light, enjoyable read. I just wish there was more substance.

The Best Friend Problem, released by Entangled Publishing through the Love Struck imprint, is a delightful read. Romantic comedy paired with one of my favorite tropes—friends to lovers—done with a fun and enjoyable flair.

This was one of those reads that left me smiling. It’s light, fluffy, and so gosh darn cute you won’t know what to do with yourself. Pru and Finn’s friendship, and the adorable antics and fun banter between them, were so refreshing. Their story tugged at my heartstrings in all the best ways, yet also had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion. This is definitely one of those reads where I grinned the entire way through, and when it was over, I heaved a happy little sigh.

Ankenman has a skill for developing characters you can’t help but fall in love with. And her humor is adorkable and spot on. I got more than one side-eye from my husband and dog when I snorted at a one-liner or cackled at a wonderfully set-up scene. Truly, in this day and age, the lighthearted joy this story brings to the table was just what the doctor ordered.

I would recommend this book to dang near anyone who wants to feel some warm fuzzies and spend an afternoon chuckling with delight. It’s trope-tastic and filled with feel-good moments.

I enjoyed reading this story that is filled with romance, laughter and a little drama. I liked the story flow and the characters. The story itself is friends to lovers romance and it is about Finn and Pru who are friends since highschool. Pru wants to be a mother and is thinking about getting sperm donor for that goal, but something happens and voila...(the rest is in the book, and you will have to read it...) It is my first read by Mariah Ankenman and I believe it won't be my last.

This is the first book that I have read by Mariah Ankenman and I did enjoy it. This was a cute friends to lovers’ book. Finn and Pru have been friends for years. Pru has suffered loss in her family at an early age and when she lost her aunt, she decided that she wanted to have a baby. She decided to use a sperm donor but after unexpected night with her best friend that plan changed. It was nice to see them realize that the person they have been searching for has been there the whole time. If you are looking for a quick read that will tug at your heart strings then this is the book for you.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I loved the blurb, but the book didn't measure up! I didn't loved it, it annoyed me quite a bit at times, but i didn't totally hated it! He was totally dreamu, but she was too much of a control freak and it bothered me a lot how b*tchy she got when things didn't go like she planed! But the end was super cute, now I'm kind of curious about her friends and if they'll get their own story!

This was delightful. I was a little hesitant to read this because I am super *not* about that parenting/having babies life but the characters were lovely, their motivations for their quirks made sense with their backstory, and I laughed out loud several times. Definitely excited to read more of this author's books!

Edit: Read it again a month later, just as delightful the second time. I absolutely love these characters.

4 star review The Best Friend Problem by Mariah Ankenman

A new author to me, I found myself captivated by this story from the first to the last chapter. Pru and Finn are best friends and after one drunken night of passion, Pru finds herself pregnant. For Pru this is a dream come true, even though it was not how she had planned to conceive.

The banter between Pru and Finn, as well as Pru and her partners/room mates was humorous and at times made for some laugh out loud moments.

I really enjoyed the relationship that Finn and Pru built based on a firm friendship of many years. Even though it took a lot for them both to realize the feelings that they had for one another. It appears everyone else could see it, except them.

Miss communication led to stress and tension at times throughout it all you knew that their friendship would remain intact.Although having said that there were times that I got frustrated with both Pru and Finn.

Hopefully the secondary characters will get their own stories as I for one would love to read their stories.

4.5 Stars for The Best Friend Problem
This is a new author to me but not for long because after reading this book I will certainly be checking out her other works and I really hope she decides to give the secondary characters in this book get their own stories. This book captivated me from the ist chapter to the last line, I loved the banter Finn and Pru shared and I had some real laugh out loud moments throughout this witty read.
Friends to lovers are one of my favourite genre’s but this book was so much more than just a friendship that turned into love this book left me feeling that what ever happened in this couple’s life their friendship would remain intact even miss understandings and miss communication would not break the bonds of friendship. If you are looking for a lighthearted witty read with great loveable characters look no further than The Best Friend Problem. Looking forward to more from this author.

After way too many mysteries and thrillers this hit the spot

It is nothing new really. You see exactly what’s going on and how this will wrap up but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes it’s nice to pick up something that you know will end in a happily ever after after the obligatory push and pull.

The writing and characters were great and the dialogue was sensible and funny. It was smartly written and felt more realistic than some of the other stories I’ve read in this genre. Overall, a sweet and entertaining read that I recommend.

I read the second book in this series back in 2o2o and bought the first book hoping that I would get to it before book 3 came out... yeah that didn't happen. It's such a short book that I have no idea why I haven't read it sooner. I found the audiobook copy available on Hoopla and figured it would be a perfect little book to listen to postpartum when I had no hands available to read physically. I will say that I think this series gets better as it goes at least from the perspective of reading book 1 and 2. This one is shorter and just didn't feel as flushed out as the other one did. It's still a cute and sweet story, but I felt like I just wanted a smidge more from it. I wanted more about their wedding company involved. Perfect story for what I needed though. I'm still going to go ahead and read book 3.

Started out loving it...
Ended up being really annoyed at the constant use of the word friend. I did not forget that her roommates were her friends, and the author would not let me forget that pru and finn were BEST FRIENDS...... I searched the word friend in the ebook.... 226 mentions.
200 of them were unnecessary.

Not having read other books by the author before, I didn’t know what to expect before reading The Best Friend Problem. Needless to say, this friends-to-lovers story had me rooting for the characters from beginning to end.

In the story we get to meet, Prudence Carlson, a wedding planner who hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to men. Her last serious relationship ended after the guy moved cross country and she has then sworn off men altogether. With her wedding planning business becoming successful, she is ready to take another step in life by becoming a mother. Since it’s the twenty-first century, she is able to take matters into her own hands and now has to pick the perfect candidate for her baby. But the hardest person to tell about her plans is non other than her best guy friend, Finn.

Having met in the seventh grade, they have been though ups and downs. He has seen her at her best and lows, and she is scared of what he is going to say about her new plans. But things turn out differently the minute they decide to get drunk and cross the line they never expected to. This ultimately leads her to finding out that she is pregnant and she doesn’t know what Finn is going to say. He is always on the go with his job and one-night stands, which he prefers so telling him about the baby might end up hurting their friendship. Needless to say, she is surprised to see him ready to help her right away. She never expected to be pregnant with her best friend’s baby and the idea of co-parenting is not appealing to her at all. Until he starts to change everything around her and she wonders if they might just be meant for each other after all.

Finn Jamison loves his job, as a firefighter he is able to help those in need, but it is also demanding and he is not always home. He understands the risks that come with his job and will never wish to have a family suffer if anything were to happen to him. So he stays away from those are looking for more and turns to his one-night stands instead.

The only constant woman in his life is his best friend, Pru and he couldn’t be happier about that. They’ve known each other for so long and have promised to rescue each other if one is in trouble. But everything changes the minute she tells him that she wants to be a mom, he knows that she is going to be a great parent and they go celebrate. Only that ends up turning their life upside down when she finds out that she is pregnant with his child. He never wanted to be a father, but he is her best friend and will do anything for her including letting her be a solo parent. But the more time he spends with her, the more he stars to see the future that they could have together.

I very much enjoyed reading this book, the chemistry between the characters is undeniable and sweet. It’s evident that each of them have obstacles to overcome and the author did a great job with the story as a whole. I liked Pru’s independence, but that very same thing is what is blinding her from leaning on Finn for support. She wants to do things her own way and that doesn’t always work out. On the other hand, Finn is scared of leaving a family behind if something were to happen to him. He has seen that happen and he is shocked to hear that he is going to be a father. Throughout the story we get to see them change and go through ups and downs that ultimate decide their fate. I cannot recommend it enough, if you are looking for a good friends-to-lovers story with a baby in the mix then I would highly recommend checking out The Best Friend Problem. It will leave you wanting for more. :)

I just finished reading an advance copy of The Best Friend Problem by Mariah Ankenman. I can’t wait to share my thoughts.

This books is really a well done book of tropes. It does occasionally cross the line into cheesy or sappy but never so much to remove you from the story. From chapter one through to the end this books is heartwarming and sexy.

Finn and Pru are truly best friends and you feel that even as they toy with being something more. I love stories that are built on genuine friendships. While I love the steamy scenes as much as the next person, they mean so much more when you read about characters who feel deep and abiding love for each other.

Mariah Ankenman did a much better job than most portraying that and, while in some books the drama of friends to lovers can feel forced, her take on it felt real and natural. You understand where both characters are coming from at every point. That’s not to say you aren’t frustrated with them at some points. It wouldn’t be a worthwhile story if you weren’t. It does mean that all the frustration is worth it in the end.

And, as a bonus, she teases side characters here that I would love to read stories about. She built a very intriguing family and community around Pru and Finn that I want to stay immersed in. I highly recommend this read for anyone looking for something quick, light, and sweet!

I really enjoyed this book!!!
Prudence really wants a baby and has decided enough is enough she is going to do this by herself. Finn on the other hand has no room for babies or a wife in his life due to work responsibilities. After one drunken night Prudence finds herself pregnant with none other than Finn's baby.

This book is sooo sweet. Finn is the perfect gentleman towards Prudence while also dealing with his own feelings. Prudence needs to come to terms that her "single parenting" plan now has her best friend Finn in the mix.

I really enjoyed this book, however there were one or two inconsistencies. One big example is in chapter one Prudence is very passionate about what a massive waste of money motorcycles are. She states she enjoys them however is terrified of them "if she wasn't so terrified of crashing every second she rode this thing..." She then goes on to explain doctors call them "donor mobiles". In chapter ten, Prudence's attitude and beliefs change. Finn shows up to drive her to the doctor. When he doesn't show up on the motorcycle because she is pregnant Prudence thinks if she knew how to drive one "she assumed it would be perfectly acceptable to ride one until her belly got too big".
Did she not think they were terrifying and "donor mobiles" a few chapters back??
Overall I really enjoyed this book and I will definitely be rereading

This was my first book by Mariah Ankenman and I really enjoyed it. I love friends to lovers trope and throw in them not knowing that they were in love all this time or suppressing their feelings and I'm a goner. Oh, and also I love surprise pregnancy books so there was no way i was going to pass up a chance to read The Best Friend Problem! I adored Pru even though I was a little frustrated with her at times. Once I realized why she was holding back, I understood her perfectly and it really made sense why she wanted what she wanted. I loved Finn as well. A sexy, hot tattooed fireman... what's not to love. And the way he was with Pru just melted my heart. The two of them were so perfect together and they just fit. I liked Mo and Lilly as well and I hope this is a series that follows their love lives too. The only complaint I have is that I think this book would have been better in first person. I kept being jarred out of my reading space when I was wondering who "her" or "him" was when it was referring to the main characters. Overall, this was a sweet and funny read that I really liked.

Oh, wow! I am going to have one serious book hangover after reading The Best Friend Problem. Mariah Ankenman has penned one beautiful, fantastic friends to lovers romance. It's combined with a surprise baby story and that's got to be two of my favorite combinations.

Finn and Pru have been best friends since high school. Pru lost her parents well quite young and was raised by a great aunt, who is now deceased. All alone, Pru has decided to get a sperm donor so she can become a mother. Well, one night with a little bit too much booze on both sides and you've got it, no sperm donor is necessary. But both Finn and Pru have to be brave enough to realize that what they've got for each other is a whole lot more than just best friends. It was wonderful watching the story develop and their relationship grow and I can't say enough things about how good this story is.

Told in 3rd person, this is a heart-warming romance with 2 complete characters. Tasteful love scenes, emotional but not graphic. 5 star all the way.

The Best Friend Problem by Mariah Ankenman was a sweet and charming best friends-to-lovers romance. Pru is a planner. Lists and plans get her from one day to the next. With a successful business with her friends, a great guy best friend and support system, she is ready to become a mom. Who needs a man the old fashion way when she can do this her own way, right? Ready to take the next step to become a mom, the last thing she expected was a one night with her best friend to change all her best laid plans!

I loved Finn. He was an easy-going guy who was loyal, honest and caring. Though both Pru and Finn found the other attractive, they never wanted to change what they have, but then one night changes everything. Can they go back to just being friends, especially when that night has major consequences? I loved watching Pru and Finn navigate their new found normal as everyone around them saw what they never allowed each other to see. The Best Friend Problem by Mariah Ankenman was such a delightful read.

Lighthearted, fun and cute.

Finn and Pru have been best friends since seventh grade. While they secretly pondered what a relationship with each other would have been like, they prefer to ignore and stay good friends. But all that gets thrown out the window when alcohol is introduced into the picture. After an amazing night together, they decide to act like nothing happened until Pru finds out that she is pregnant with Finn's twins. The whole plot was about their relationship and how they adapt to the change in their relationship.

Even though the friends-to-lovers troupe has been done endlessly, I enjoyed reading it. I would have liked to read more about their individual lives, a deeper look into their friendship and personalities. I do feel that these areas were just lightly brushed across without delving too deep. However, this book was definitely engaging and a great summer read.

Friendship goals! These three ladies are amazing and Pru's long friendship with Finn is so sweet and deeper than I was expecting. A new author to me that I will be looking to read more from.
Pru lost her parents young and doesn't want to miss out on having her own children. Knowing and believing that she can do it on her own takes so much courage and strength. Her friends are her family and she cares so deeply, but still struggles to ask or accept help, even from them. Obviously her friends know her well enough that help comes anyways.
Finn has seen death and puts himself in danger to save others. It's completely understandable that he has no desire to attach a spouse and children to those that could lose him if something did happen to him while a firefighter.
Friends to lovers is a favorite romance trope of mine because the foundation is already set it's about the willingness to take that step to another level of intimacy that has to be made.

The Best Friend Problem is a delightful, light-hearted romance. Prudence has amazing friends and a wonderful career, now all she's missing is a family. Too bad her dating history is less than stellar and filled with duds, so that's when she decides to take matters into her own hands... I was super jealous of her relationship with Finn throughout the story, as I wish there were more guys out there like him! Pru is fiercely independent and has a plan for everything, so watching it all go up in smoke is highly entertaining. This story is filled with romance, laughter and a touch of drama. My first read by Mariah Ankenman, but definitely not my last! (Although we really need to talk about the pregnancy cravings she created!)

This was an entertaining read and one that curbed my surprise pregnancy trope itch. The Best Friend Problem is a super predictable and kind of unrealistic novel that follows Prudence, a independent to a fault heroine who has decided to take life by the horns and get artificially inseminated. However, when the big day comes she finds out she is already pregnant and her best friend is the father. A time.

I kind of wish that their was a bit more substance and character development with this story as everything felt the same and stagnant throughout the story, I don't feel like their was any development of plot nor character throughout besides the pregnancy, which I wish we saw a bit more of? I'm not sure, I just wish I got...more.

Huge thank you to Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for sending me an ARC for my honest review!

Pru is at a point in her life that she wants a baby and with no luck when it comes to men she is prepared to be a single mother and have it happen the clinical way. She is a planner and has thought of every contingency that could occur but the one thing she hadn’t planned for was a few drinks too many and spending the night with her sexy best friend Finn.

Finn and Pru have been best friends for years and they know everything about each other or thought they did. Finn doesn’t believe his career as a fireman works with a relationship, but that idea may be put to the test when his best friend ends up pregnant and he is father.

It was fun to watch the friendship between Pru and Finn turn into a relationship without either of them knowing. His family and her best friends know that Pru and Finn are in love and with their help Pru and Finn realize it as well.

This is the first book I've read by Mariah and I throughly enjoyed it and will continue to read more from her. This book was sweet, funny, and classically romantic that I didn't want to put it down. Pru is so organized and planned out in everything she does but so introverted. Finn is so fly by the seat of his pants and outgoing. They make the perfect best friends. And have since grade school. They have always had and counted on each other. But both have very clear ideas on family. But when one night derails all the plans and they stick it out together. I also love Lily and Mo and hope they get their own book because they were the perfect counterparts to Pru and they need their own book!! I would recommend this book!! By Tina

I really loved this book. I go more in depth in my review View it here

But general thoughts are that despite my slight dislike for the main character, I was able to get past all of that because the relationship was so perfect. You could feel the romance between them from the beginning and watching them grow into it was such a wonderful experience.

I'm glad that I got the opportunity to promote this book! I can't wait to read more from this author and see where the side characters from this story go.

Pru just knows how to get a reaction out of her man, "beer spewed across the table, sprinkling her face with a fine mist of sour-smelling liquid as Finn snorted..." Finn doesn't care what his woman is wearing, “****,” she muttered. “My underwear doesn’t match.” Seriously? Did women think men cared about underwear fashion? He sure as hell didn’t..." Finn is very sympathetic with his woman's feelings, “oh ****.” He grimaced. “Don’t cry, Precious. Please. I didn’t mean to make you cry.” I liked his book, I liked Finn and Pru.

Pru and Finn have an amazing friendship that has never crossed the line until one night neither Pru or Finn will ever forget! This story was my first by Mariah Ankenman and I have to say it was very enjoyable. The romance, the relationships between friends and the friends to lovers trope were fantastic and I really fell for Finn and Pru!
