Well remembered from the late seventies - this book was a key inspiration liberating architects from the formal strictures of the international style into a more whimsical and expressionistic architecture which we take for granted today. ( customer review)
Charles Alexander Jencks (born 21 June 1939) is an American architecture theorist and critic, landscape architect and designer. His books on the history and criticism of modernism and postmodernism are widely read in architectural circles. He studied under the influential architectural historians Sigfried Giedion and Reyner Banham. Jencks now lives in Scotland where he designs landscape sculpture.
Many of us that live in the Village of Corona del Mar, CA are sad to see the small cottages torn down and replaced with 3 story modern condos. But after reading this book and enjoying the photos & humor, I can see that things can be worse.
