This is an excellent read, especially if you are interested in Childhood Education, Sociology, Psychology or Black studies. one must always consider the effects of race on development and life. I does change how you see, how you are seen, how you are treated and behave in this world we live in. This book is well resourced for the time. This book was published some years ago so it is best to keep in mind the statistical research provided but updates are easy to find in this information age. At any rate this book is a top shelf find! I plan to study this book as i move foward in my career and interactions with others.

I cannot begin to explain the importance of Dr. Amos' work but this book alone is so important to all African minded parents or even future parents of Black children. The original print was written in 1978 just years before the crack epidemic, some of us then small ghetto black children were thrown into this chaotic world by mothers and fathers who were lost and frustrated themselves. Dr. Amos Wilson dropped a jewel for all of us who made it out of that shit and now raising African minded children of our own and trying to make a better way for them. It's sad that some of the issues that he describes in so much detail in 1978 didn't even stand a chance to be glanced at by some of our elders. I'm proud that it exist so those of us that are autodidactic can give our children just a bit more of a chance without the "not needed" chaos of the black ghetto life.
RIP Dr. Amos N. Wilson
