A very simple ABC book, with just one word per page, and an illustration to go with it. But the illustrations are beautifully rendered in black ink on white paper, sometimes in the style of pointillism, but always evoking a yearning for city life or at least an admiration for the complexity of the big city and the people that live there. Also, love the 80's nostalgia as well.

Wonderful captures of scenes of a time gone by. While the vehicles, technology, etc., are definitely of their era, the ideas and scenes have a timeless feel that can be seen in any big city today.

The author uses pictures to describe the daily life a city. For each letter she uses a word that fits wht culture of a city as well. This book would be good to use with children who are learning the alphabet and are learning about different environments. my favorite part of the book is the illustrations, which are black and white detailed sketches.
