Cultural Diversity and Education: Foundations, Curriculum, and Teaching

Rate this book
Much more than a "how-to/activities" book, this textbook gives students a strong background in the conceptual, theoretical, and philosophical issues in multicultural education. Cultural Diversity and Education is designed to help pre-service and in-service educators clarify the philosophical and definitional issues related to pluralistic education, derive a philosophical position, design and implement effective teaching strategies that reflect ethnic and cultural diversity, and prepare sound guidelines for multicultural programs and practices. This book describes actions that educators can take to institutionalize educational programs and practices related to ethnic and cultural diversity. The scope of this edition has been broadened to include a focus on gender, disability, and giftedness. The significant changes that were made in this edition necessitated that the title be changed. Multiethnic Theory and Practice, the title of this book for its three previous editions, no longer accurately describes its contents. Consequently, the title of the book was changed to better reflect the broader coverage of its content. For pre-service and in-service teachers, and anyone interested in educational diversity.

More thorough, critical, and useful overview than the Introduction to Multicultural Ed--contains key concepts, ideologies, and surveys of research. Essential.

Banks goes to great lengths to detail how the education system should be used to create a socialist system in America by increasing diversity in our schools and communities, removing teachers who do not believe or support a socialist agenda.

More people should read this book to become familiar with what the socialist movement in America is doing to change society by modifying how and what are students are taught.

Hated it. Hard to read. The author did not make any sense and most of his points were invalid.
