“I’m going to spoil someone who wants to give me everything I desire.”
Hugh Bennett spent most of his life working as a secret agent for OMNI Corp, choosing power, money, and loyalty over love. Work like that changes a man, and Hugh was well aware he existed only in shades of grey. Like most agents, Hugh planned to retire quietly, alone, and unloved. Unfortunately for him, fate seems to have other plans when a brash, mouthy little sub swaggers into his life and forces Hugh to take another look and decide what’s most important to him.
Liam Foster’s life isn’t fancy, but it is simple. Working two jobs to make ends meet, he’s resigned himself to barely treading water just to please his slumlord and keep a roof over his head. Liam wants more, but he knew he made his bed, and now he has to sleep in it. That is, until a former co-worker shows up with a new Rolex, designer jeans, and a proposition Liam can’t turn down. A natural sub, Liam has no problem with the idea of kneeling for a hot, older Sugar Daddy who promises nothing more than giving pleasure and showering Liam with cash. The only caveat—no catching feelings.
Liam’s fine with that, until he isn’t. Until it becomes clear Hugh’s life is far more complicated than a University Professor with mysterious millions, and ties to a secret organization. When danger makes its way into Liam’s life, will he want to stick around and stand by Hugh? Or will he run just when the going gets tough?
The OMNI Corp series contains adult themes and content intended for an audience of 18 years and older.
I liked EM Lindsey’s previous works but this one...I don’t know...it didn’t quite hold my attention throughout. It was so vague that I’m rather disappointed because other than Hugh’s job as a professor, his other job could be quite anything because there was no details.
It’s convenient to use “secret organisation” and “if I told you, I’d have to kill you” as an excuse for being vague but it would be just that, an excuse. Also, for a secret organisation, they are pretty obvious about things. Also, how they make their money, I’d never understand cos honestly, it doesn’t sound like people will pay big money to get rid of bad guys. Hence why government law enforcement pays are crap.
So while this book didn’t wow me, I’m still looking forward to the rest of the series. I hope they’re much better 🤞
That was…odd. I mean, it’s about a professor/assassin who pays someone to be his sugar baby. It is odd, right?
But for some reason, despite the eye rolling moments and the dear need for more editing, I got hooked. Maybe because this dom was so imperfect he kept fucking everything up and his submissive kept giving him shit about it. Maybe the very nicely done steamy scenes. Maybe the really interesting secondary cast that will probably get a story. In any case, considered me invested. Sort of.
I don't really have much words to explain how perfect this book is!
This is about Liam, a mouthy sassy sub who knows his place, who wants to submit and being taken care of, but refuses to lose his voice and his ground. He’ll make you laugh loud, and you’ll feel all his struggles (the ones he shows, anyway). He won’t banck down; he’ll push the boundaries not only because he wants (and sometimes craves) punishment, but because it is part of him, his essence, and that’s what made me love him even more. His true to himself, no sugarcoating things and life: he faces as it is, and deals with all that comes from it. And we have Hugh, the Dom who didn’t know he was a dom until a certain propose falls in his lap. Once he learns and identifies himself with his new discovered nature, he try, fails, fuck things quite a few times before beggining to find the right balance in his and Liam’s life. When he learns to deal with that, with the fact he can’t be 100% in control... it all starts to work out. But not all that much, as you’ll see...
Mistakes are made, life gets messy and… Well, things happen, but not in the way we’re used too! I can’t say much without spoiling the book, but trust me: this must definitely go to the top of your TBR. Forget everything you’re used to read: this is new, different, and f*cking awesome!!!!
Elaine wrote a perfect book, and I can’t hardly wait for the next ones. And if the others are half as perfect as this one, this can be one of the best series of the year!
There were some issues with this, and I'll be honest, I did not like Hugh at first...or possibly even toward the middle, and it was a totally strange situation, but at the same time, I ended up liking it. I liked Liam, I liked that Hugh So yes, definitely issues, definitely things that didn't quite work, but I did like the characters, and I wish we had gotten a little more interaction with some of the other guys, because I always find that friendship ride-or-die closeness to be really the best part of books like this. Maybe in the future we'll get some more. I will read the next one.
I absolutely fell in love with Liam. He was funny, snarky, confident and wasn’t going to let anyone shit on his little life. Or the Steve’s 😉
Hugh isn’t a man who believes he can love. Not with a past like his. What he doesn’t count on is Liam.
Liam and Hugh sign a contact for one month. But they get so much more inside that time, even with two weeks apart so Hugh can finish is work. We get some steamy kink, renovated apartment, saved mice and a whole lotta feels neither man expected.
After Hugh’s last job goes toe up, he tries to pull away thinking it will take Liam out of harms way. Wrong choice. After his boss gives his a dressing down, he goes to Liam. Or rather, orders Liam to him, Liam sends back a fuck you, so Hugh is forced to go down in person to prove he is in it. There is no other option. These men are explosive together and I love Hugh’s possessiveness when it comes to taking care of Liam.
I’m rewriting my entire review because I got way too picky over a few details and didn’t properly convey my enjoyment of this story. It’s totally different from what I’ve read from the author, for sure. Yes, there are some areas I think needed more substance but overall it was pretty great. The kink was pretty damn good without going into any heavier sorts of BDSM. It’s D/s action in the bedroom only with some spanking and rough sex, and absolutely scorching scenes between Hugh and Liam. Hugh was sort of classic secret agent, cold and closed off, which also worked in his professorial role. I also liked that Liam was feisty and independent without being bratty. E.M. Lindsey is rapidly moving higher on my favorite authors list (which is really crowded!). Looking forward to the future installments!
I was a little hesitant cause I'm not too sure about this whole "sugar baby" thing that's popped up in a lot of books recently. But I really quite enjoyed this one. Liam was a cute spitfire of a character you cant help but fall for. I loved that he didn't let Hugh off the hook when it came to certain things. He didn't compromise himself and his own thoughts and feelings when he knew that he was done wrong. Hugh was kind of an enigma for me, at times I wasn't really sure where he was going and what he was thinking of doing next. Overall I liked this one and will be keeping my eye out for more of this series of books. Really interested to know more about the Whole OMNI Corp. (OMEGA Corp.) and what the deal is with them, Laurence and Ben and the whole group of them are intriguing you will definitely be left wanting to know more.
Poor proof reading took me out if the story again and again. I also felt the BDSM aspects were a bit forced. The MCs were okay, although I didn't really get a feel for them as much as I like. Some folks would love it even with these issues.
An assassin choosing to be a sugar daddy isn't a plot I thought I'd find, but here we are. It was fine, just somehow not engaging enough to call for feelings.
3.5 Finding love when all you wanted was comfort. Two men who think they can’t love, find love with each other.
Is this series a spin off of another? I feel like it was, because other characters seemed a bit more established compared to our MC’s and Even the MC’s had some establishment. I feel like there were parts of the story line that felt more established.
I enjoyed the story. The MC’s were great. The emotions were wonderful. I can’t wait to read about the other characters
I really enjoyed this book. You get to read about Liam and Hugh evolving through their relationship. They both make mistakes and have issues but they are perfect for each other.
Why do people write about assassins and then have to clarify they’re ‘good’ assassins. C’mon, killing is killing.
But ok, assassins, lets go with that. It should be exciting yes? This book is slooooooow. I’m amazed I read as much as I did, which was about 65%. I got tired of the worry. Does he really like me? I’m just a sugar baby to him. Oh I messed up bad but I’ve learned now. 🙄 til the next chapter or so when he messes up again. It’s just too much. I know it’s supposed to create tension but it ends up making the characters annoying fools. I liked the sugar baby at first but... And the tormented bad guy? I really wanted to like him. He’s an English professor in his off time, he could be really interesting, but he’s not. He’s a pompous grouch that no one would wanna hang out with.
Don’t even get me going on the dom/sub fiasco. Like pick something and go with it. Is there gonna be scary lethal action to create tension or experimentation with bdsm or maybe just confusion and angst. Pick one and do it well before trying to put it all together or you end up with a slow boring mess that people roll their eyes at.
Beautifully executed foray into a new genre for Lindsey
E.M. Lindsey has decided to take a walk on the wildside with her new series. It contains age gaps, two mysterious and dangerous organisations engaged in a deadly battle for supremacy, BDSM, contracts and deadly situations. It's a far cry from her last series, and yet there has always been something a little dark and dangerous hiding in the background of her stories. This is great book - the BDSM has been well researched and is finely executed; Hugh and Liam have sizzling chemistry and Hugh's grizzly, dangerous professor perfectly offsets Liam's cheeky sub with a heart of gold. If you haven't read Lindsey before, and you like this type of story, now is your chance! Get amongst it.
Awesome start to the series. Hugh and Liam's story was unique, intense and full of everything I wanted. First time author for me and I now want to read all their books! Hugh is tall, dark and mysterious with a dangerous edge to him. Little did he know that Liam entering his life would make it even more crazy and opening his closed heart. Loved Liam and being sassy, confident and needing someone to embrace him. Loved this Universe and the idea with matching up couples, great side characters too mixed in the action. With twist and turns we see both of these guys struggle to accept their deep connection and how their new future will look. This is sexy, sweet, and full of dark edges that you can't get enough of. Can't wait for the next.
I really liked Hugh and Liam’s relationship, especially how it affected Hugh and enabled him to open up and find a new meaning to his retirement other than just staying away from work.
The author did a great job describing the learning curve of Huge as a Sugar Baby and it helped that Liam was a companion not afraid to voice his desires and critics. The power balance between the two is way less unbalanced than expected and mostly centred on the bedroom.
The only critic I have is that the author dis not dedicate enough words to give the reader insights on the characters’ past stories. I may understand this choice with reference to Hugh but not about Liam.
In any case I can’t wait for for the second book, where I hope we will get some more information on the OMNI organisation.
I have to say that I love E.M. Lindsey's books. They always pull me in and I forget my surroundings and when I have to stop reading due to work, I can easily jump right back in without missing a beat. Her books stay focused on the main couple and don't bombard you with subplots or extra characters' side stories which shows what a great writer she is. I love characters who vow not to fall in love like Hugh but then meet someone, in this case, Liam, who crawls under his skin without even trying. Thank you 3 Steve's and 1 not Steve. They're the catalyst that made Hugh fall so hard. On to book 2 now.
Although it is my understanding that the author has pulled this book for the time being to make changes, I went ahead read it before those changes. I would have liked a little more background on OMNI Corp and what they did, but this focuses more on the relationship between the two MCs, Hugh and Liam. I was pretty happy as far as they were concerned. There's some BDSM aspects and some mistakes were made by Hugh as a Dom which humanized him in my eyes but I feel he made up for it. Liam was a spit-fire and I really loved his personality.
I actually thought the book was pretty entertaining.
The whole secret organization thing felt rather silly and unrealistic. A lot of it did not make all that much sense, it was more like a cartoon version of a spy network or something like that. But I really liked the characters and the relationship. I liked that the Dom made some mistakes and that those where actually taken seriously. I liked that the sub was mouthy and self-confident without being bratty. I just could have done without the danger parts.
A Sugar Daddy secret agent plus Sugar Baby with a sassy mouth. I absolutely and totally loved this story! The characters were complex and amazingly portrayed, with their emotions on full display to the reader. All the world building and secondary characters only added to the charm of the story and overall experience. I look forward to the next chapters in this series and more OMNI Corp goodness! :)
I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this book, but was pleasantly surprised. I wished we had more of a backstory on the two 'house' leads, and why exactly Liam lives the way he does, that didn't make sense to me. The only real downfall is that the book needs a serious exit; there are numerous missing or double words. In spite of that, I am looking forward to book 2.
Super easy read. Fun. Got a little sticky with the realism of the BDSM Dom/Sub dynamic that kind of left me on edge anytime they did anything afterward. Made it less enjoyable and I just kept waiting for someone to mess up again.
Great premise. I see the up coming book picks up from where this one leaves off. Should be an exciting series. I just wish I knew what the uncomfortable couch looked like LOL. A nice HEA is always appreciated.
I am now impatiently waiting for the second book! Once again E.M. Lindsey has captivated and pulled me into her world. The agency known as Omni is bringing intrigue and love to the pages. Hugh and Liam seem like an unlikely pair. Mistakes almost destroy the couple before they get started. I am looking for the next installment of the series.
The characters, at least the ones associated with OMNI, are definitely morally ambiguous and they are engaging and interesting to read. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Hugh and Liam. Looking forward to more in the series.
I love starting a new series and meeting all of the characters in the first book, knowing that you will see their HEA in the near future. Hugh and Liam are up for the first one and they are badass and adorable at the same time. Enjoy!
I wasn’t sure about this book going in but it turned out to be great I had a hard time putting it down and going to bed. The characters really brought you in and the store was great I can’t wait to reward more of this series.
I am usually not too keen on books featuring assassins. But this one was actually pretty good. I particularly liked the beginning of Hugh and Liam's relationship and the way both were slightly unsure how to behave. Overall, I enjoyed it and can't wait to read the next one in the series.
Wow, this was good. Contracted companions for dangerous men, kidnappings, suspense. But overall, a man who thought he couldn't love, Hugh, couldnt resist the allure of his sweet, submissive companion, Liam.
