When the lines between pretense and reality blur, can the actor and the boyfriend-for-hire discover something real?

Ryan Levesque is Hollywood’s newest blue-eyed boy. Moving from soap operas to the big screen has paid off for the kid from Minnesota, and he’s hot property. But, when a video from the lowest point of his past is shared on social media everything begins to unravel and old hurts resurface. His agent suggests a way out of the mess, and he jumps at the chance to make things right by pretending he’s in a committed, loving relationship with the tall, dark, sexy boyfriend for hire, Kaden. Only, he never counted on the impact Kaden would have on his life or his career.

When Kaden Moore’s next assignment lands in his lap, he’s expecting nothing more than a self-centered celebrity who’s messed up. Kaden’s new role is that of Hollywood A-lister Ryan Levesque’s boyfriend, a PR stunt concocted by his agents to restore the actor’s dented popularity. Kaden is aware of the video that surfaced from Ryan’s past, and though it raises questions about what kind of man Ryan is, it’s not any of Kaden’s business. Kaden has been pretending his entire life and knows he can show the troublesome actor a thing or two about the world beyond the Hollywood bubble. But maybe Kaden isn’t as clued up as he thinks, especially when it comes to the heart and love.

This book started with a bang but went out with a whimper.

I'm a big fan of the fake boyfriend trope. A dual POV is always a bonus, and both MCs were likable. There was a hurt/comfort element I liked.

However, the reason Ryan said the things he said on the video didn't make sense to me. Yes, the words were taken out of context, but the whole thing felt contrived.

The steam level was fairly low (mostly fade to black) as is this author's M.O. I can deal with that, though, because I knew not to expect more.

What proved truly disappointing was the ending. The last chapter is quite tentative, what with the guys deciding they need to go their separate ways for a while and Kaden telling Ryan he wants to say that he loves him but not actually saying it directly.

The epilogue shows them together in the future, but it was rather lukewarm, with Ryan wondering if Kaden really wants to move with him. After two years, shouldn't that be a given in a solid relationship?

I love a good fake boyfriend trope and this one follows the usual path to happiness.

The official boyfriend business for hire contracting out the boss' cousin for a job starts the narrative with an insight into Kaden's early life and sets things up well for the rest of the romance.

It's a fairly slow burn and also has an added secondary plot which is a more serious thread and which I thought worked very well as a counterpoint to the sweetness of Ryan and Kaden beginning to trust each other.

I've liked both books in this series and hope RJ and Meredith plan more.

#ARC kindly received from the authors in return for an honest and unbiased review .

Don't trust everything you see , even salt looks like sugar.

Kaden is book #2 in the Boyfriend For Hire series. I did not read book 1 and I think , might have affected my full enjoyment of this story. I do not know , other readers did not seem to be at disadvantage.

Kaden , falls in the fake boyfriend trope . A slow burn , medium heat story that deals with heavy topics as homophobia, anxiety, depression, and abuse both physically and emotionally and it might be a trigger for some.

It is a good read. I just couldn't connect with the heroes.

It is very likely a - It is me , not you - situation going on here. My suggestion is read it yourself and come to your own conclusions.

What happens when a character with bad attitude and a character who has no depth unite? This book! 🤷🏻‍♀️💜

An actor hires an agency to pair him with a guy who will help him regain his good image after a video. Cool... The two characters meet, the actor acts like a really petulant child and the hired boyfriend doesn't react at all. Okay... Then they start on this dates and that attitude keeps happening, one treats the other wrongly and the other does nothing to put him in his place instead he falls in love with him. Say whut? 😦😦

I know that the actor has past traumas but that IS NOT an excuse to be a disrespectful little shit and Kaden, the fake boyfriend, had a past of abuse so how the fuck he let's the other one treat him like that I don't understand.

So yeah, I didn't like it much, the conflict was actually decent that's why the 3 stars, but when you have main characters that you don't like... Well, at least it was short, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

3.5 Stars

I didn’t read book one, so an entire business specializing in fake boyfriends who aren’t “escorts” (nudge-nudge, wink-wink) might be questionable except the Hollywood setting makes perfect sense. Kaden gets paired with Ryan, disgraced by a seemingly homophobic, drunken rant caught on video and jeopardizing his career. Displaying him in a stable lifestyle and devoted boyfriend are gauged to be the best response in dissipating negative perceptions. Characterization for Ryan and Kaden is decent but thin in spots. Ryan’s affection for his sister, and vice-versa, was confusing and alternating perspectives didn’t always provide enough clarity or flesh out the few secondary characters as much as I’d like either.

The term “vague” kind of stuck in my head through much of this story. Specifics of what Ryan might have experienced aren’t too clear, even later in the story. Sparse dialogue and unembellished prose made it difficult to see where and when Kaden and Ryan achieved enough emotional connection to become lovers. Sex scenes are rarely a big focus in Scott’s stories but in this case closing-door might have served better. The subject of abuse should have played strongly on my emotions but I remained detached, not catching enough feels. It read easily and smoothly with the technical skill, pacing and well executed plot I expected from this duo. You should read and judge for yourself; this is a case of my personal reactions and not necessarily any shortcomings of the story.

This boyfriend for hire, is worth his weight in gold...

Kaden is the second book in RJ Scott & Meredith Russell’s ‘Boyfriend for Hire’ series and while I really enjoyed Darcy, book #1 in the series I found Kaden to be just a bit more enjoyable. While the Darcy and Kaden both work for ‘Bryant & Waites’ this is the only connection they have to each other making both stories easily readable as a standalone.

When one of the worst moments in Ryan Levesque’s past shows up on social media for all the world to see, his manager decides to use some unorthodox means by which to deal with the resulting negative backlash to Ryan’s acting career and before he knows it Ryan finds himself at ‘Bryant & Waites’ about to embark on a public relations blitz that will hopefully put his public image back on track. Provided he can keep his personal feelings in check.

Kaden’s worked for ‘Bryant & Waites’ for a few years now and while he’s never had a client as high profile as Ryan Levesque, Hollywood’s latest golden boy, both he and his cousin Gideon (owner & manager of Bryant & Waites) are confident that Kaden’s the right man for the job.

I loved how this story unfolded. The relationship between Ryan and Kaden was a slow burn and initially Ryan was faced with a bit of an emotional dilemma. While he knew that his agent’s plan was very probably the best solution for his situation, it still didn’t go far towards gaining enthusiastic participation from him.

While I liked both of the MCs in this story, I found Kaden easier to warm up to and I loved that his character gave Ryan a chance to share his side of things and that he didn’t just buy into the part of the story that was made public to decide that there wasn’t more to things and that Ryan. I also really liked that Kaden was portrayed as being someone who was kind and patient but without making him seem like he was someone who could be easily manipulated or victimized in any way.

The story was told from shifting POVs which for me made a lot more sense than if it had all come from one direction since we were given not just Kaden’s and Ryan’s backgrounds but some of their personal and emotional reactions to events and it just feels more natural to find out from Kaden or Ryan how they felt about things that happened to each of them in the past or even the present.

While I really enjoyed this story, I have to admit for me there was one minor issue and that was the relationship between Ryan and his sister. Obviously, they were close she was his PA and while her actions show us that she really cared about her brother for some reason I just wasn’t feeling that close sibling bond that they had and in truth this was probably at least a little bit of ‘it’s me not you’, but other than that little glitch I really enjoyed this one and found myself very invested in the story.

While both Darcy and Kaden are set to the theme of ‘the pretend boyfriend’ each story presents a very different plot and I find myself curious to see what a third book will bring to this series. I’m not sure whose story is next in this series but I’m very much looking forward to finding out.

Your typical boyfriend for hire story, movie star Ryan needs a steady boyfriend, because he got bad publicity, Kaden is hired for the job and they slowly fall in love.
What I liked was the lack of miscommunication, when they went from business partners to lovers.
What I didn`t like was the lack of depths in their relationship. I was not convinced how and why they fell in love, both had a lot of baggage and I honestly think, instead of a partner they should have looked for a therapist, helping with their problems.
Also, the Epilogue was rather meh, not really inspiring or exciting, all in all, an okay read but nothing memorable, 3 stars for me.

What's not to love? It's fake boyfriends at it's finest, but with R.J. Scott's clever wit and sweet romance.

Kaden takes on a challenge at work when he's hired by Ryan, a pretty widely known actor who's run into quite a bit of trouble in the gossip section. But there's always more to the story...

Kaden is the perfect fake boyfriend. He's charming, handsome, can remember names and dates and kisses like a... wait. The kiss was fake, right? Mwaahaa. You have to read this story to find out.

Ryan, though. Man. His ex-boyfriend was manipulative and condescending and abusive. And even though Ryan had gotten away from him, he was still trying to control him. And things got worse when Ryan's former friend was his new stand in where the ex was concerned. Needless to say, there was a lot going on in this story, which provided a lot of times for Ryan to need comfort from Kaden, which led to sweet dialogue and some heated scenes.

If you love the whole 'my life is a mess and now I have to hire a super sexy man to pretend to be my boyfriend' trope, then look no further than this series. It's R.J. Scott... need I say more?

Lovely healing story.

Good read. It's a story of how two hurt souls come together and fall in love. Both the MCs are great characters, they're well written and compliment each other perfectly.

Ryan has been alone for a while. Ever since his last boyfriend abused him, both physically and emotionally. I felt for Ryan, he comes across as so vulnerable, and it's obvious that the abuse has left scars.

Kaden arrives onto the scene, and immediately is drawn to the damaged Ryan. I liked how the authors brought these two together, and even though they were drawn to one another, Kaden wasn't an immediate cure for Ryan's distress.

The relationship develops throughout the book, and Kaden gives Ryan the strength to cope with his past, and to help another victim. I do hope the guy will get his own story. This is a good addition to the series and I look forward to the next one. 4.5 stars.

This is so much more than just a fake boyfriend romance. The tale of Ryan, the Hollywood actor and Kaden, the escort for hire was not what I was expecting. There were some serious issues of anxiety, depression, and abuse that RJ Scott and Meredith Russell tackled that had me on the edge of my seat. All of the taboo subjects were written in such a way that the reader could feel all the emotions and walked in the characters shoes. Beautifully done - this was a fabulous read.

I enjoyed this story, most likely because I enjoy both this boyfriend-for-hire trope and RJ Scott’s writing—alone or in collaboration with Meredith Russell. Kaden is the boyfriend hired through the same agency as featured in book one, Darcy. He’s to provide stability and a love interest for Ryan, a young Hollywood actor whose recorded homophobic spiel hit social media and sent his ratings plummeting.

Actually Ryan Levesque is a nice guy, and the recording didn’t reveal who he was speaking about, nor did it capture everything, including the why of what he said. He was telling someone off, someone with whom he had been in an abusive relationship, someone with financial power to harm Ryan’s career if this someone’s identity became known. But no one knows these facts, and it’s halfway through the story before Ryan tells Kaden the details, even though by then, over the course of their fake relationship, they’ve become close.

The story works in the usual way—the guys start to enjoy the fake kisses and hand-holding, and eventually end up in bed, but Kaden holds onto his own secrets too. When Ryan’s secret starts to come out and another young man is involved, Ryan steps up to the plate and is supportive to the guy who is now in his former position. As I said, it’s a nice story, but a little fluffy, even considering the past abusive relationship. To be honest, I had to do some major imagination-stretching around some of the circumstances toward the end. Reality is not quite as easy as it seems in a book and I couldn’t quite grasp believability of what happened.

Also, because the guys didn’t start to have a relationship until the latter half of the book and the story faded out shortly after the issue with Ryan’s past lover was resolved, when the epilogue takes place two years later, it’s evident that much of Ryan’s and Kaden’s emotional growth has taken place off-page. Their relationship is sealed during that off-page, two-year period also, and they are committed to each other. I would have likely rated this higher if there was more substance revealed to readers instead of being left to the imagination.

Since abuse is mentioned in this story and past emotional and sexual abuse is included, this story may trigger some readers. On the flip side, overall, this is a sweet and simple boyfriend-for-hire trope so those not triggered by mention of abuse and who are looking for an easy read should like this one.

Ryan is a TV star who has had a recent scandal. He needs some good PR to help save his career, so he and his sister, Carmen, his agent, goes to Gideon, and is assigned to Kaden as his boyfriend for hire. Strong Kaden has had his own sorrow in his life. We like these guys a lot, and each one's story is sad. They begin work, and attend events and parties, etc.. But the ex who has been horrible to Ryan gets in the picture and upsets Ryan and triggers anxiety.

More of each man's background comes out, and then we see Ryan's worry that his friend Luke is being mistreated also. Something must be done.

Meanwhile, Ryan and Kaden get personal and closer, with amazing hot sexiness.
The abusive ex reveals his nature, police come to the rescue.

I liked this different tale, and the characters involved. These authors can give us the emotions and a satisfying epilogue.
ENJOY !

This book was okay. I enjoyed the read and I love the whole concept of a fake boyfriend turning into a real boyfriend. And though I enjoyed this book, I felt like there was something missing. It has all the drama and the anguish. It even has the sweet to hot scenes as well but one of the main storylines in this book just felt like it was sorta lacking where the villainous ex Paul was concerned. Other then that I found this to be a very good read.

Ryan is an actor who has a problem. A few years back he got extremely drunk and went on a rant about his then boyfriend. Until now he was not aware that the rant was recorded but now that the newest movie he is in is about to release, someone has decided to release their own homemade video of that rant. Now Ryan is catching all kinds of grief.

To help dissuade some of that negative image of him, his sister and those that he works for have decided that he needs a supportive boyfriend to help remove some of his now negative image. That is where the boyfriend for hire comes in. Kaden is the fake boyfriend that is supposed to help make Ryan’s image better.

At first Ryan is not happy about the arrangement. He does not let anyone get close to him and he does not want to have to answer any questions where the video is concerned. But in order for Kaden to work with him, Kaden wants to know what happened and what caused the drunken rant to begin with. Ryan reculantly tells Kaden what happened and after hearing the story Kaden agrees to help.

The more time Ryan and Kaden spend together, the more Ryn finds himself opening up to Kaden. Just when Ryan starts to feel comfortable with the whole situation, his ex shows back up into the picture and Ryan learns that someone he once considered a friend has found himself in the same situation that Ryan was in. Ryan decides he had to do whatever he has to help.

Since Kaden and Ryan are getting closer, Kaden finds that even though he never lets anyone close to him, Ryan and his bleeding heart has wormed his way into Kadens heart. So when Ryan decides he needs to help his friend, Kaden agreed to help as well.

Will this fake boyfriend turn into a real boyfriend after all? How will Kaden handle what happened to Ryan in the past?

This was a good book but I would have really liked for Ryan to not be so down on himself and back and forth like he was where his ex was concerned. I would have also liked for there to have been more in depth writing about Paul because even though he was a major aspect of this book, I felt the whole situation was briefly touched on. Other then that I enjoyed this read.

It's not fair that a moment of drunken despair was filmed and a piece of it released to the public years after it happened, right? It's not fair that, because of it,Ryan has to keep dealing with the fallout and the lasting damage of his relationship with Paul even years after he managed to leave the abusive jerk. The video brings out all of his insecurities and fears, and sadly makes him realize that maybe he'll never be a completely self assured and confident man.

How is it fair that in order to fix his public image Ryan has to hire a fake boyfriend? On the bright side, though, that's how Kaden comes into his life. Kaden, who's just as hurt and wounded, but also great at hiding his pain behind his swagger and unflappable smile .

It's certainly not fair that these two men are too wary and distrustful to act on the attraction they feel for each other. The beginning of their story is a heartbreaking one step forward two steps backward dance, with knee -jerk reactions of rejection when things seemed to get too intimate or one felt that he needed the other too much.

At times it looked like neither of them would ever put down their defences. I was so happy when they stopped touching only for show, when they started kissing each other for themselves, not part of an act. They're obviously made for one another, with matching scars on their hearts ,each the best to understand exactly what the other has been through and the best to try to soothe away the pain.

Kaden by RJ Scott is a wonderfully heart-rending story. This author will never stop to amaze me with how brilliant she is at writing characters and their feelings and then transfer them to the reader. I felt as my own all of Kaden and Ryan's emotions, handkerchiefs at the ready and hopeful for the end of their struggles and then happy for their love.

Beautiful book and absolutely recommended.

I loved this!

Kaden is the second book in the Boyfriends for Hire series but it absolutely stands alone. Book one, Darcy, was OK for me but I really loved Kaden.

Kaden is a boyfriend-for-hire who works for his cousin's company. He's not thrilled that his next assignment is pretending to be the boyfriend of a Hollywood heart-throb who's gotten himself in a bit of trouble.

Ryan was caught on tape saying some awful things but all is not exactly as it seems. He's not thrilled to have to hire a pretend boyfriend to help him fix his image but he'll do whatever he needs to do to get back in the good graces of his fans.

Kaden and Ryan don't exactly click when they first meet but it doesn't take too long for Kaden to realize that Ryan isn't the spoiled movie star that he expected. He knows that Ryan is hiding something, but so is he. Once they give in to their attraction for each other things really heat up!

I could feel the connection Kaden and Ryan had with each other. The authors' words really flowed for me in this story. It was a fairly quick and wonderful read for me. I'm looking forward to the next one in this series.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the second book in the series, and whilst I would recommend Darcy (book 1) to you, there is no need to read them in order, in my opinion.

Kaden had a difficult start in life, but now that he supplements his income working for his cousin, he is able to push the trust and love sides of life to the edge of his mind. He had no reason to imagine that would change anytime soon, but meeting his latest hirer brings things to the fore. Ryan too has some painful things in his past, and whilst neither is keen on sharing ... they somehow get each other, and slowly start to consider how things could be.

I say slowly, but actually the story is mainly set over about a week, and yet never did it feel rushed - I only really came to think about timing as I was writing this review! We are so in synch with the characters as they wake up to the possibilities that time becomes a rather inconsequential part of the tale. I loved being transported away from today and into their meaningful, unexpected and caring relationship.

Read in one sitting as I could not have put it down, this is a lovely book which I plan on rereading when I need a comfortable friend to hand.

This was another sweet romance in the boyfriend for hire series. I loved both of the main characters, they were so easy to like and I could appreciate where they were both coming from and empathise with them also. It had an important message about the #metoo movement, shining a light on the often forgotten idea that men are victims of this too. Both Kaden and Ryan totally deserved to be happy. I loved how supportive Kaden was to Ryan throughout the contract and when it became real. And I loved that after initial discussions, neither judged the other. This was a heartwarming read with a really satisfying HEA.

When I read the first in this series I didn't realize it WAS a series, yesterday I quickly downloaded the next couple of books. Each is readable alone, all is set around an escort/boyfriend for hire business, and I LOVE boyfriend for hire stories. This was sweet, Kaden, the hired boyfriend, and Ryan, the troubled movie star, are cute as heck as they weave their lie for good publicity, but, of course, emotions take over. I know the basics of a fake boyfriend story are routine, but the added characters and subplots always keep it fairly fresh, that is what these authors have managed to do, nothing seems stale or repetitive, a lovely story and a nice hea.

Better than the first, with more likable characters and not quite as boring.

For a quick read, this one was more worth it.

I find the author makes distracting grammar errors, and dialogue is often stilted rather than sweet, like it should be in a romance.

I really liked book 1 "Darcy", but I loved this one more. Kaden is complex and intriguing and poor Ryan is a mess, but sympathetically so. This story reads like something just pulled from the headlines and I was glued to it from start to finish. There are many different levels to the reason Ryan is skittish and stand-offish. A release video tape (no! not that kind! LOL) and a terrible past relationship, on top of being firmly in the public eye. It's enough to make anyone's anxiety spike. Kaden has his own issues and the slow-burn relationship is very satisfying. If you follow my reviews at all, you already know I don't do spoilers and this is no exception. The secondary characters are well developed and very realistic.
I can't wait to see what comes next in this series!

I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads

At the start of this story, I was sure it was going to be a predictably fluffy Hollywood fantasy romance. And it is. But at the half-way point, a much more sinister and less predictable Me Too storyline is introduced that really took me by surprise. I’m still not entirely sure the combination works but perhaps we are living in a time where even escapist romance needs tempering with a little bit of ugly realism.

I chose this story as a fluffy holiday read - and it kinda works. Ryan is a misunderstood Hollywood star and Kaden’s a white hat hacker who moonlights as an escort. They are both fantasy characters. Ryan’s initial surliness hides hurt and insecurity and it is Kaden’s job to make his life easier. For much of the book, the relationship is necessarily one sided. Kaden is paid to serve Ryan as a perfect boyfriend. It’s a wonderful fantasy but not a perfect relationship. I felt like Kaden’s needs and desires were often sidelined and the lines between reality and Kaden’s job were blurry. This is a relatively low heat read with a long slow burn romance.

At times, the Me Too part of this story feels like it belongs in a different book. Fluffy romance writing has to end with a neatly packaged HEA but the sad reality is that Me Too hasn’t actually changed much in the past couple of years. It’s an important, complex topic but I’m not sure the parameters or genre of this story do it justice.

Love. How the hell had that happened? How was it that pretending to be in love had become so much more than that?

Oh, this book! THIS BOOK!!!! This story was so much more than I was prepared for, and I don't know if I can even do the story justice in my review.

Kaden is a boyfriend for hire story - a fake relationship with a little bit of forced proximity where the acting becomes more than just acting in which Kaden and Ryan find a way to heal the hurts that the past has left behind for both of them. I think I've found a new favourite for this trope! It makes me want to rewind and read Darcy to get the full feeling of the series! Yes, this is the second in the Boyfriend for Hire series but it can totally be read as a standalone because that's what I just did!!

I wasn't expecting this book to be so hard for me to read - please don't get me wrong, it wasn't because this was a bad story! Look at my rating, this was an excellent story on par with what I expect when I read a book that has R.J. Scott's name attached to it. The reason it was so hard was because of Ryan's history with his ex - because I lived that kind of relationship. I've been there, got the t-shirt and all the PTSD and trust issues to prove it.

Where Kaden's issues came to his family life and how he was raised, Ryan's with an emotionally (and implied physically) abusive ex. What was worse was how Ryan was stuck in a cycle of pain because of a damning viral video that was leaked to the media that threatens to turn his skyrocketing career into flaming wreckage because of that relationship. I won't spoil exactly who leaked the video, or even who filmed it because both are an integral part of the story that brings him to his moment of healing when he could stand up and say Me Too without complete embarrassment and fear. That was the most beautiful part of this whole story - just seeing Ryan make those steps towards the long road to healing his soul and finally taking a chance on loving someone else and giving them the trust required to hold his heart in their hands. I can't say I'm completely there yet myself, but I don't shy away from the fact that I've lived it. I've accepted that there was no fault in me that made those things happen. That wasn't love, and I didn't deserve the treatment I received and it was something beautiful to see Ryan feel safe, to be honest with the world and let his story be heard.

Normally, I would give you my favourite lines - but so many of them are spoilery this time that I can't do as many as I usually would. So here are the few that stuck with me…

Favourite Lines -

"I should have stayed on Destiny Cove; it was easier there."

Carmen smiled, then said, "You were lucky to get out before the alien dinosaur baby storyline, which you know would have deteriorated into Dino-porn, where you'd forever be known as the T-Rex of handjobs."

That kiss. That had been everything he'd ever wanted. The taste of it, the confidence, the experience - it was all the things that he'd never had with anyone else.

I want more.

I can't have more. Not for real.

Trust was fragile, like a thin layer of ice over water, and he didn't want to endure the heart-rending chill of the freezing waters below, not again.

Kaden Moore is a boyfriend-for-hire who works for his cousin Gideon's company, Bryant & Waites. He's not thrilled that his next assignment is to be the pretend-boyfriend of Hollywood heart-throb Ryan Levesque who had gotten himself in a bit of PR trouble that could end his career, something to do with a leaked video of his drunken ranting and threats toward a nameless boyfriend 3 years ago. But Kaden didn’t research his client, preferring to form his own opinions when they met. Ryan seemed agitated, even scared, not happy to have to go to these lengths in hiring a pretend boyfriend with no experience with high-profile personalities. How could Kaden help him fix his image when he didn’t know how to deal with paparazzi or go to interviews and premieres with him and fit in? But he’s desperate and will have to do whatever it takes to win back the favor of his fans.

The first public dating was awkward at a party with well-known celebrities. Kaden and Ryan hadn’t had a more intimate setting previously to get used to each other; and Ryan was uncomfortable. It wasn’t until they dropped Kaden off at the end of the evening that Ryan showed the tiniest acceptance in asking if Kaden would invite him in for coffee. More experiences of being together will make Kaden realize Ryan may not be the spoiled movie star he had expected him to be. Both men are hiding things from their past, but as they start to open up and trust, their attraction for each other starts to shift into something real.

Because life doesn’t run smoothly, Ryan’s abusive, manipulative ex-boyfriend comes back into his life. Paul is still intent on regaining his control of Ryan. But Ryan has grown up some since their breakup, and experiencing what a real relationship could be, will he have the strength to face Paul and set him straight? Will Kaden’s comfort and support be just what he needs to really break from the past?

This was a well-written book, immediately relaxing the reader with the humor and banter among Kaden, Gideon, and Rowen. So it was easy to go into the story line with a smile and warm feelings for the characters. The author’s writing was so good that the reader was comfortable in the world that was created. Ryan’s sister, Carmen, was a perfect companion and kept him grounded as no one else could – at least until someone special came into his life. Kaden was strong, calm, and steady. Wonderful and likable characters. The story was beautifully told in a way that made it all real and understandable. Don’t miss this experience. It will open your eyes and your mind to what’s important – and that’s relationship, honesty, and absolute trust.

The fake boyfriend trope can be hard to pull off without sounding cliche but RJ Scott & Meredith Russell have not only managed to give the concept life once but twice(and hopefully more). When a drunken rant and threat is caught on video and leaked to the press, Hollywood actor Ryan Levesque is in need of the services Boyfriend for Hire provides. Kaden Moore may not be too gung-ho about his next job with the actor having seen the leaked video but he has a job to do and he goes with it. As much as I loved Darcy, book one in the Boyfriend for Hire series, I think Kaden is even better(not something one often says).

The set-up of drunken actor in need of good PR may seem a bit cliche or overused on the service but we quickly learn that there is so much more to what was behind Ryan's drunken video. Now you know I won't go into what the "much more" is or touch on what is in Kaden's past either but just know this: I can't imagine any two people who needed each other more than Ryan and Kaden. Life is all about timing, right place and all that jazz, well the stars were definitely aligned when these two were put in each other's radar.

You'll want to hate Ryan when you first meet him, he comes across as the quintessential Hollywood I'm-too-good-for-this type but we quickly see there's more to him than that partial video. That point right there was actually one of my favorite things about this story, the pace Scott & Russell set, some authors might have dragged out seeing the real Ryan to heighten the drama but personally that would have weakened the story's beginning. We might not learn the whole truth behind what led to the video for a bit but I think seeing Ryan's vulnerability(for lack of a better word) early on strengthened the connection between character and reader.

Some might say these two are broken and in need of fixing but I don't see them that way, I saw two people who are brought together out of necessity that led to more and through that "more" they grow stronger. Some might think I'm giving away too much by that statement but we all know its going to end in HEA, the joy, entertainment, and heart comes from the journey not the ending. Trust me, you'll want to know the journey these two took getting from point A to point Z.

This is the second book in the Boyfriends for Hire series, and it did not disappoint. The characters are well developed throughout the story, and the storyline is well written.

Kaden comes from a hurtful past, and he doesn't trust easily. He does, however, seem to have the patience of a saint at times, and is able to keep a level head. When he learns that his new client is a celebrity going through a rough time, he decides to learn about the man from the source himself instead of the many media outlets.

Ryan is a rising star in the acting world, but his star has recently been tarnished a bit by things said in the past and now taken out of context. However, he is not ready to set the record straight, so he and his team have decided that he needs a boyfriend; at least until the most recent movie's premier on the red carpet.

Although things get off with a rocky start, Kaden and Ryan are soon able to get their act together and present a decent performance at events. That is, until a nightmare from Ryan's past shows up and sends Ryan into a tailspin.

Things get better with no further face-to-face interactions, and Ryan and Kaden begin to realize that what they are doing may not all be due to the contract. Things heat up, but Kaden is still not quite ready to give his whole heart quite yet.

When another victim of the same monster asks for help, Ryan comes to terms with the fact that he has to stand with his friend and face the consequences, come what may. Kaden stays to support his lover, but eventually he returns to New York to give both Ryan and himself time to be sure how they truly feel.

In the end, Ryan's decision to stand up with his friend leads to unexpected results, and his career is safe once again. And, of course, our MCs get their HEA, just as they should.

Happy reading!

I loved this story, and especially the way the authors took a trope—fake boyfriend—and twisted it slightly by having an agency set up that provides just that. I connected with Kaden immediately, and although Ryan came across at first as someone buying into his own star hype, I still felt sympathy for him, as I suspected there was more going on with him. I liked that it was just Ryan who has his issues, but that Kaden’s background isn’t great either. It made their connection feel more real, plus gave them both insight into the other’s background.

I loved the supporting cast, especially Ryan’s sister Carmen who is a force to be reckoned with. The way she cares about and for Ryan says a lot about both of them. I also liked Imelda who has taken Ryan under her wing. She’s a great mother figure, yet has a very strong personaility. The way Rowan checks in with Kaden throughout his assignmen is much more than the action of an employer’s PA. The family vibe in this story is strong, which is one of the things I really enjoyed about it. As an aside, I’d like to know more about Gideon and Rowan.

I thought Ryan’s ex was written very realistically, and came across as a total piece of work especially in the way he got inside’s Ryan’s head and made him doubt himself even after they’d broken up. The authors’ captured the personality of someone with manipulative skills extremely well, and the conclusion to that part of the story made me very happy.

Although that part of the story is darker, and I like a bit of angst in my reading, I still thought the story was, on the whole, a sweet romance. It left me with the feeling of having had a very satisfying read, and I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.

I’d recommend Kaden to readers who enjoy a sweet romance with some angst, three-dimensional characters, a strong sense of family, and a very satisfying ending.

3,5 heart review by Cindy

Ryan Levesque isn’t who the world thinks he is. As an actor, his whole life is open to scrutiny but things aren’t always what they seem. The reality is that Ryan is shy and sweet and a little lost in the entertainment world and his past is starting to come back to haunt him.

Kaden Moore is one of those people who thought that they knew who Ryan is, but it doesn’t take long for him to see that there’s a lot more to Ryan than the tabloids have made him out to be.

Both men are adorable and their chemistry is hard to deny. I enjoyed Ryan’s relationship with his sister because I know what it’s like to be protective of a little brother.

The story was a little predictable, but that’s okay. I could see how it was going to end but I enjoyed the journey we had to take to get there.

One of the best things was how helping Ryan figure out how to leave his past behind helps Kaden work through some issues of his own.

There’s nothing spectacular about this book, but there’s some really good moments. The steam certainly builds in the guys relationship and the author’s definitely know’s how to pen a good sex scene.

The angst for this story comes in the form of an ex who’s very stereotypical. I was very glad to see that he didn’t get away with the shit he’d been pulling. I really did want to punch him in the face.

Not having read the first book in this series, I will be keeping my eyes open for it. I very much enjoyed these authors writing style and could really go for more of it. Not too long with a proper happy ending, it would be an excellent rainy afternoon read.
