Midnight Star

Rate this book

Astra Garrick, the Midnight Star, is the Nova Aurora Arena League’s reigning solo champion. As the late Ebon Claw’s younger sister, she has quite the reputation to uphold—especially when a title-hungry opponent attacks her using the same drug that killed her brother.

The close call has put her on a quest to uncover the source of the toxin responsible for crippling or killing dozens of Nova Aurora’s champions. She just never imagined the enigmatic matchmaker, Gerri Wilder, would send her childhood crush along with her, not to mention a former champion with a tainted past.

Now the three of them are on a collision course with Earth, where lies the devastating truth they’ve long been seeking—and a love that might compromise them all.

Ophelia Bell is the author of the super steamy Sleeping Dragons series. Ophelia loves hot alpha heroes, especially if they’re dragons, but believes the world needs more alpha heroines, so has made it her mission to make that happen. Ophelia grew up on a rural farm in North Carolina and now lives in Los Angeles with her sexy tattooed alpha husband and five-and-a-half attention-whoring cats (one of them is exceptionally large and might actually be a dragon in disguise).

Midnight Star by Ophelia Bell
Book 4 Nova Aurora series
Midnight Star Astra is a arena champion that after her brother Talon died after a shifter he was against poison him and eventually died of his wounds she became a Aurora Champion.
Astra’s last match her opponent tries to cheat by using same poison.
Now Astra can’t talk to her dragon and isn’t healing properly.
Javin is doctor for the Aurora Champion League and Astras mate but neither want to commit to each other and feel something is missing.
Javin also looks after a disgrace Champion Simon that was talked into using the Poison and now can’t talk to his hyena and is having a really dysfunctional relationshipwith Javin.
Javin contacts Gerri to try and get Astra a mate to restore her connection to her dragon.
Gerri is also contacted by Val Carver a panther that after a damaging news article about him possibly dating his very close male friend sent his dad in a rage.
I absolutely loved this book because with Astra not been able to talk to her dragon she wasn’t happy about mating and even when she finally confessed to Javin her feelings she still didn’t feel like it was right.
I love how Ophelia Bell can write a RH with three very distinctive male characters that all have different traits.
The together scenes with all the mates are incredibly hot and very very saucy.
If you like multiple partners or RH I would definitely recommend reading Ophelia Bell first series Sleeping Dragons.

Can Gerri Wilder find mates for four different people, three of whom don't want mates at all? Well, she IS Gerri Wilder....

Readers of the previous Nova Aurora Champions books will recognize (the late) Talon, Simina, Cade, Bryer, Pomona, and other characters from those books. Those who haven't read the previous books, they're great! And the second two (Hot Wings and Triple Talons) are great background reads for what is happening in Midnight Star.

Like Talon and Bryer, Astra (Talon's surviving sister) has been attacked by a shifter whose use of a performance-enhancing drug has inflicted lethal or near-lethal wounds on several Nova Aurora Champions. There's treatment, but it hasn't been as effective lately. Though Astra knows full well that finding a mate would go a long way with reconnecting with her dragon and healing her completely, that is emphatically *not* what she wants. A mate would interfere with her fighting career, which she must hold on to to honor her slain brother Talon. Astra's doctor, Javin, signs her up with Gerri Wilder of the 100%-success-rate Paranormal Dating Agency behind Astra's back.

Simon, a hyena shifter and former Nova Aurora Champion was the partner of a shifter who attacked another champion. Meanwhile he has become addicted to the performance-enhancing drug, and needs regular visits from Javin to provide a maintenance dose. Javin pushes Simon, too, to get a mate. Simon is game!

Val, an Earth panther shifter, runs a lab and is working on a formula to help sick people perhaps connect with their inner animals, and thus heal better. However, his father will shut him out of his lab unless Val goes to Gerri Wilder to find a mate.

What can Gerri Wilder do to match up four different shifters, when three of them do not want a mate at all? Well, mate-finding can wait, and the four "clients" can meanwhile work together to solve the mystery of the production and distribution of the upgraded performance-enhancing drug, as well as find a counteragent. The question of mating will have to take a back seat to that!

Spoilers

I don't understand how Astra can look at Simina & her mates, and know about Simina's research into the "alchemy" of mating with just the right person - or people, as the case may be - and be so resistant to the suggestion of finding a mate. Just because Simina's Aurora Champions find their mates doesn't mean *they* haven't continued to compete, so Astra doesn't really have a good reason to be so hostile to the idea of getting a mate.

In addition, I disliked the early descriptions of Javin's & Simon's "relationship." I mean, I guess they get something out of it, so why should I care if it's a "drug treatment for sex" partnership in which they both gasp out the name of a third party when they climax?

I do like the progress of the investigation, and the resolution of it. Everyone finally gets over themselves.

PS: I prefer a Gerri Wilder with a bit more....how shall I say it? Vulgarity? She has always intrigued me because she is so classy and put-together, but interviews her clients with an explicit series of questions about sexual practices & preferences to the point of severely embarrassing them! The Gerri we see more in Milly Taiden's incarnation.

In deep denial...

This is the fourth book in the "Aurora Champions" series. Luckily it can be read as a stand alone since it has been a while since I read the other books in the series. When Astra is poisoned with the same toxin that killed her brother, his best friend contacts Geri Wilder to find Astra a mate. Mating has been proven to help the stricken shifters regain the connection to their animal. So, how to you think that goes? Yeah, not good. Astra swears she doesn't want a mate. What she wants is Javin. Javin wants Astra but a sense of loyalty to her brother keeps him for acting on those feelings. Add in a disgraced former Champion, a human scientist and the hunt for the toxin for one heck of a story. Has Geri Wilder finally met the one match she can't make?

Ophelia Bell has written a wonderful tale with a strong female main character that can handle the smoking chemistry in this tale. Midnight Star is rich in details and flows smoothly from the first page to the last. All of the characters are amazing even with their ups and downs. This story is action packed with suspense, raw emotions, humor, twists and lots of steam. This wonderful story should be shared with your family, friends and book clubs. I highly recommend this book which is a 5+++!

Yes! Another book in the Paranormal Dating Agency world with the Aurora Champions! This book is about the late Talon's little sister. If you do not know who Talon is I would advise you to grab this authors other books in the series before reading this one. Astra is following in her brother Talon's footsteps by becoming a Nova Aurora Champion and just like her brother she is attacked by a rival that used the same drug that killed her brother. The suspense and actions that happen throughout this book to get Astra a cure kept me on the edge of my seat.

these Champions drive me crazy with their refusals to commit and mate!!! just want to shake them, lol...lucky for them their mates aren’t weak and usually kinda know what is best, or at least one will, lol.

Astra is determined to be at the top of the Arena League, but possibly more for her brother, The Ebon Claw, than for herself. As each of the men who are trying to help her get to know her they are even more determined to make her theirs!

A star in the sky

In this book we are once again taken to Nova Aurora, and sent to darken Gerri Wilder’s door at the paranormal dating agency. This story is full of twists and turns and intrigue as well as the intricate relationships between the characters. You are going to be shocked when you find out who done it and so relieved when you reach the HEA. I look forward to more books by the author.

This latest installment in the Aurora Nova series is as exciting for me as the previous ones. Gerri is amazing in her talent to unite mayes. This among the rest of the topics makes for a wonderful award winner. For those who have read the series, there will be cameos from the previous books as a treat! Remember these books are 🔥🔥💧💧, so get your towels andctreat yourself!!

The latest entry in the Nova Aurora series is as compelling as the rest of the series, which I suggest should be read in order for enjoyment and continuity.

Astra has followed in the footsteps of her dearly departed brother, becoming a beloved Nova Aurora champion. Like her brother she is attacked by a rival willing to use the same drug that killed her brother. Her character is independent, almost to a fault. Javin her brother's best friend hides his feelings from Astra, choosing to remain her friend and protector. However with Astra's dire situation he will confront not only adversaries but his feelings as well. Simon and Val round out the romantic quartet. It's entertaining to see Astra continually resist her destiny with Simon, Val and Javin, yet unable to deny the amazing chemistry and kinship they share. I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

I have to admit, I am biased, I love these books from Ophelia a lot. I loved all the previous ones too, but this had some overexciting moments, but in the end everything was sorted out. There was hotness in this book - and a lot of that, but I rather focused on the road the characters went through, alone and together as well. Each and every relationship (and yes I mean here the inner relationships too) had so many challenges, it was a difficult and complicated path to end up where the book finished. I was glad that characters from previous books showed up too, and Geri as always extremely charming and knowing :)

Entertaining, Erotic and Expertly written - Excellent Paranormal RH read

Well, what can I say … I was hooked on this series from book one and am happy to report that Midnight Star was another winner. This is the fourth book of the Aurora Champions series and the top three words that come to mind after reading this book is a matter of the 3 E's - Entertaining, Erotic and Excellent. Let me just add here that it is not necessary to read the first 3 books in this series before reading this one as they can each be read as a standalone with new couples in each book. But that said, I do recommend reading them first as you will understand and enjoy this one so much more if you do.

I love how we have a powerful yet stubborn heroine in dragon shifter Astra, aka Midnight Star, she has been in love with her late brother's best friend (wolf shifter - Javin) all her life. When she is injured and infected during a championship match Javin contacts matchmaker Gerri Wilder because he knows mated champions stand a better chance at healing and he is just as stubborn as Astra and doesn't want to act on his feelings for her. But she doesn't want a mate, just a cure and to get back to fighting. Add in another 2 males in the form of hyena shifter Simon and panther shifter Val and things really heat up between the four shifters. The fact that they are all alpha's in their own way also makes things a bit more interesting.

This book is really well written from a multiple pov (all 4 main characters), it is a fast burn Reverse Harem Paranormal Romance with MM action included and ends with a HEA - can be read as a standalone. I recommend this for lovers of shifter romances, paranormal romance as well as RH romance. 5 well deserved stars from me.

Astra has been infected. As a champion she needs to find the source of this toxin and eradicate it. What she doesn’t know is that 3 shifters will be thrown in the mix. Three very alpha and sexy shifters by her side... yummy. The story, as all in the series, is fun to read and with a little angst to get to the good end. Quite enjoyable!!

Absolutely loved this torrid tale. Astra the Champion has loved Javin for years BUT he thought she was off limits. Gerri Wilder works her magic again and the results are sheer combustible drama. Val doesn’t want a mate or that’s what he thought to Gerri introduces him to Simon, Javin and Astra. Excellent story that was hard to put down.

I liked the strong leading female Astra aka Midnight Star who not only grieves for her fallen brother Talon, aka Ebon Claw but also lives for his memory through her competitive successes. Mrs. Wilder"s matchmaking skills occurs in the background as she too is interested in stopping the toxin affecting and killing league players.
I liked the spin of this plot as it moves from Nova Aurora to Earth and back, as well as the demanding natures of the main characters.

Astra needs a cure and her brother's best friend is determined to save her even if it means she ends up with another man. He has tried to ignore his feelings for her. It gets more complicated as other men become part of the project to save her and they find themselves wanting each other for more than the project.

I had read the other books and enjoyed seeing the story continue but you can definitely enjoy it as a standalone.

This book packs a lot of heat. There are attractions between them all and they explore those desires with one another. The author really does a good job building the relationships among the characters and I like that she alternates the characters telling the story. The ending works quite well and resolves the storyline.

I loved it! Once again the author knocked it out of the park. This well written book ties up all of the loose ends and loosely connects the previous 3 books in this series into one cohesive collection. There are some surprises, ups and downs, as well as some twists and turns in this book. When you add in the danger, drama and intrigue as well as the intense attraction between Astra and her mates, you have one explosive book that you will be unable to put down once you start reading it. I highly recommend this book for your reading pleasure.

Well written story full of action, danger and extreme heat

This is an exciting read, full of stubborn characters, poison & addiction troubles, betrayal, danger and steamy romance hot enough to burn up your reader! I loved Astra, although she really was super stubborn - however, each of them were equally stubborn, so despite their difficult trials, they get their HEA. There's so much story, emotion and connection in this book that it's going on my re-read list. Well done, Ms. Bell!

Ophelia rocks manage!!!

Terri gets it right again! But the heroin is a scared, scarred crazy for abstaining from mating! Three of the most loving men meant for her and she knows it! Afraid she'll lose her connection to her Dragon which has already happened when she got attacked during a fight and got infected. Mating is the only thing that makes sense since it brings back her connection!

Powerful Dragon - Should She Let Love In?

Ophelia Bell continues her Aurora Champions Series with book four, Midnight Star.

We have the challenge of watching Talon’s sister and his best friend continue to work through their heartache, while coming to terms with their true feelings for each other. Plus, we meet some other very special shifters who will make a HUGE difference in their lives.

I love to read Ophelia’s creative romances because she pushes the boundaries of tradition, while saturating her stories with emotional and physical need. Her characters struggle, but in the end, all the struggling is well worth it!

Whew, heat levels soar as high as her dragon. I absolutely love this book. A tale of redemption, love, lust, intrigue, passion, and hot MM action. As always, the storytelling is detailed and great background stories. This is hard to do with so many characters involved but this author is the mistress of RH/poly writing.
Although this is one book in a larger series, I am pretty sure it can be read as a standalone book. But I would advise reading all of them.
I hope there are more of this series to come by this author.

Wow what an amazing story but that’s Ophelia Bell for you she’s an amazing author with amazing stories I was hooked right from the start. I loved Astra’s character she is one tough cookie with enough love for her men but when she gets poisoned by the same drug that killed her brother she takes off to earth to find out who’s responsible. Amazing story full of action, adventure, hot steamy scenes, love and so much more to keep you entertained and turning the pages and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Reverse Harem Plus 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

It wasn’t obvious to me from the description that this book is a reverse harem story. However, the men get just as much action from each other as the female gets from the men. Great wrap up of an ongoing storyline, although this can be read as a standalone.
