Rate this book
USA Today bestselling author Stacey Kennedy delivers a riveting story about a former army ranger who will stop at nothing to protect the woman he loves.

He has what it takes to protect her from everyone . . . except himself.

Bar owner Kinsley Knight knows exactly what she wants: Rhett West. How could she resist over six feet of hard, trained physical perfection? Never mind that she's been in love with the guy since high school, or that she's the "kid sister" of his best friend. Never mind that one unforgettably intense and heated night they shared-and the unexpected consequences. Because Kinsley's determined to have Rhett . . . and she'll do anything to prove they're meant to be.

But Rhett can't afford to get distracted by the mind-blowingly hot night he spent with Kinsley, or the insatiable hunger he still feels for her. She's off-limits. Especially now that Rhett's been investigating the members of a vicious biker gang who have invaded his town, and they're intent on putting Kinsley out of business-permanently. Suddenly, all of Rhett's protective instincts have taken over. Because no one threatens Kinsley on his watch. Not now. Not ever. And Rhett's ruthless enough to protect Kinsley no matter the cost. Even if it means risking his heart . . .

Kinsley and Rhett have known each other for practically their whole lives. He's one of her brother's best friends, a police detective, and the only man who has ever owned her heart. He used to be sweet and charming, however, when he retired from the military he came home a changed man. Rhett is haunted by the things he did and what he saw when he was a soldier and adjusting to civilian life hasn't been easy. No one can question Kinsley's devotion to him, but Rhett would never saddle her with all of his baggage. He has no dreams of happily ever after. He can't even hold down a relationship. Can the small town sweetheart tame the notorious playboy?

Ruthless Bastard was a well-written, fast-paced, and entertaining diversion from reality. Rhett was supposed to be portrayed as a cold-hearted bastard, but to me, he was warm and caring with a bit of damage. I loved how the author characterized him and his backstory for it gave him depth and explained why he was such a delicious broken hero. As for Kinsley, she was an absolute darling person who should have nothing but happiness and joy. The small town feel and the romance that vibrated through these pages with some suspense to give this story an edge made my reading experience complete!

This was a great conclusion to the Dangerous Live series. Rhett was such a damaged soul. He feels that he cannot and does not deserve love. As a former solider, he feels that what he has seen and done makes him unlovable. Kinsley has loved Rhett forever. She sees him as a good man. When fate through them together, they must decide if it’s worth the risk to start a relationship. And of course there is threat to Kinsley and her business that can’t be ignored. I really loved watching Rhett become the man that he is. He has struggled for years and begins to realize it is all in his head. Kinsley is bold and has no problem telling people how it is. These two together have enough chemistry to light a city. They just need to figure out who they can be together.

Every time I read one of Stacey’s books, I am automatically drawn to the hero/heroine and almost feel like I personally know them. I went into this book wanting to know more about Kinsley and she didn’t disappoint. And Rhett, oh my heart. Stacey’s characters always grab a a hold of you for some reason and that made Ruthless Bastard a perfect read. One of those that once I started it I didn’t want to put it down.

Great Series. Have loved Kinsley Knight from the previous series reads and was glad that she finally got her story. Lots of raw action fill these pages along with the protective hero Rhett West. Guess about the only thing I do not like is the name "Ruthless Bastard". Rhett's character although is ex-military I would slot him in the haunted category. Anyway loved it just like all the other Kennedy books. "A copy of this book was provided by Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via NetGalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion."

So ... I read this book cover to cover, which is something.
I also only took slight detours (Irresistible by Mary Balogh which was an audio "read" then I switched to e because that's faster... some other snippets of audio books...)

A N Y W A Y.

I liked Kinsley and I liked Rhett. I liked Kinsley second to Peyton - who I thought was awesome in her book, although she was mostly bland in this book other than that one talk the two of them had which was nice but also made me want to SHAKE people.

Let's take a step back.

So the heat level in this book IMO is pretty low. Like sure it starts with Kinsley and Rhett hooking up - something they've been dancing around for YEARS. Literally.
I also can't remember how old he is - but I know it's also been years since he left the service. (They've known each other since they were kids and Kinsley has had a crush on him since she was like 15 at least. I THINK it says she turns... :X actually I can't remember. 26? 27?]

But here's the thing. Rhett CLEARLY- CUH LEAR LEE - has PTSD. He's got family - although yes there's that thing with his parents and he told them to leave when his dad got the new job - but he also has an amazing found family, his friends who are like brothers if not better because they're brothers by choice.
Hank.

And ... NOBODY has thought to even MENTION counseling to him?!?!??! Or ANY sort of treatment?!??!?!?!

Back to the conversation between Payton and Kinsley - K asks P how she got over the trauma of her first husband's death (which turned out to be a murder) - and yes grief is terrible. I cannot even imagine it.
AND PTSD is PTSD. There's no better/worse/lesser/more etc.
BUT. They are NOT THE SAME. I am IN NO WAY diminishing what Peyton had to go through, her grieving process etc. It is REAL and tragic and difficult.
But here's the thing. Rhett was a soldier. He was LITERALLY IN A WAR ZONE. He had to be ON ALL THE TIME. The stress of not knowing if you might die LITERALLY ANY SECOND. The responsibility for your comrades. I mean - there's more detail in the book in his nightmares/memories. It's a lot. A LOT.
That's something I definitely can't even sympathize or comprehend.

It's SO much ... more levels of stress and trauma. I'll never forget instant messaging a friend in the middle/late 00s who was serving in Iraq or Afghanistan - he couldn't say - and he said the IEDs ... and his words were "they're like hamburger meat on the street" - I can't even think about it because my brain shies away because no.

So ... yeah. It's DIFFERENT from the ~everyday trauma and grief most of us deal with, with deaths in the family and such.

BLERGH.

So clearly, that was A MASSIVE ISSUE. In fact like... most the book is "Rhett is broken." And look - HELP HIM THEN. Sure he ultimately has to "fix" himself - but instead of treating him like he's just shallow and static, SUPPORT HIM. Suggest counseling, support him, TALK TO HIM And yes Boone and Asher are AMAZING friends.
I get the purpose of this is all "oh his ~relationship with Kinsley is special and ONLY SHE sees him for who he COULD be /who he WAS" - so OBVIOUSLY they're PERFECT AND MEANT FOR EACH OTHER. 🙄
But I obviously didn't like the way it came about.

Oh - so back to my point/their conversation. [SEE HOW MUCH IT BUGGED ME?!] K asks P, and P LITERALLY SAYS "Rhett has to do it all himself. There's nothing anybody can do to help him."

HELLO ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! There are multiple forms of therapy, CBT, therapy animals, medicines, herbal remedies, meditation, BEING A LITTLE MORE FUCKING SUPPORTIVE INSTEAD OF TREATING HIM LIKE A VAPID SHALLOW MANWHORE?!

LITERALLY there's no mention of counseling until I think the last 3 (maybe 4) paragraphs OF THE BOOK which then shows Rhett attending his first counseling session.

The epilogue is cute - I was very happy for the happy couple. Couples.

:P no spoilers?

And! I will say throughout the book OBVIOUSLY Rhett is opening up to Kinsley and she while SAYING she's "protecting herself/holding back".... she obviously isn't. But that's also what's needed for Rhett ... and she DOES know him ...
And of course the baby does change everything...

Is it kinda wrong that Joaquin [or >.> whatever his first name is] King - anyway that King is low key my favorite character of the book?
I know he's a major villain and a criminal :X and criminals are bad.
:X but in FICTION anyway - I really liked him. I actually really hope Stacey Kennedy writes a book where he gets to be the hero.

[Also the villains of this book. Like.... I'm not sure how I feel about them but mostly it's meh?]

Anyway I liked the relationship aspect of this book - not just the romantic one (the baby steps Kinsley and Rhett are taking) - but their friends, their family - even the townspeople.

I liked this book more than the middle one I think so .... book 1, book 3, book 2.

AND HOPE FOR KING. :P

It did REALLY annoy me the utter .... pretending counseling etc - that Rhett has PTSD is low key ignored/pretended to not exist .... or like "oh it's just this thing he needs to overcome"
It's hard to explain.

Anyway ... C - - - .... C - -
I don't know.

>.> C - - - -

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the third book in the series, and I would say that you will benefit from having read them in order, as the characters and storylines we have meet before are key to the development of this story. That said, you do get enough guidance as to issues, if you want to jump straight in!

Kinsley and Rhett have known each other and been close forever, but when he left to join the military, she had to accept that her crush had no future. When he came back, injured out of the Rangers, but clearly a darker man than when he left, she still loves him, but cannot see a way to make him happy. She tries her best to be cheeky, to tease and tempt him, but he instead develops a terrible hook up habit, which just hurts. Then he drops his guard just long enough for them to have one night of passion, before he locks himself down again ... amazingly though the reader is still hopeful, because though he sounds like he is well named in the title, actually Kinsley clearly sees another side to him.

One of the loveliest and funniest parts of this book are when Kinsley unknowingly reveals a huge secret in front of all her friends and family who are hiding in her house ready to celebrate her birthday ... This was such a perfect plot device as it just removed all the issues of non-communication in a very dramatic but brilliant way.

As Rhett comes to terms with that secret, suddenly Kinsley's bar is under attack, and more disturbingly, Kinsley herself. As the police (her brother, father and Rhett) investigate what is happening, the danger gets more serious, finally bringing Rhett to the realisation of what really is important to him.

I really thought this was a great story, and as well as building on the previous two, it for me it was my most favourite story of them all.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
Kinsley and Rhett have known each other forever almost. He is her brother's best friend and she has loved him since she was a teenager.
Rhett is an ex-Army ranger which he thought he would spend his life serving his country until the unthinkable happens and now he is back home in Snowy Creek Maine. Kinsley owns the bar Whiskey Blues and after one night with Rhett at her brother's wedding, they have something to talk about. But Rhett is avoiding her calls.
When she finally gets a chance to talk to him, it happens to be around everyone and it is not how she wanted to talk. Rhett doesn't know how to handle the news but he will do all he can to protect her. So when her bar is broken in to, Rhett's protectiveness is in overdrive and he realizes his feeling for Kinsley.
Can Rhett keep Kinsley safe? Will Kinsley help him see that they can have a future together? Will he be able to protect her in the end?
I have loved this series and I think that Rhett and Kinsley are my favorites so far. Their story is filled with intrigue, suspense, past pain, lust, and a love to last. So grab this series and I hope you enjoy it too.

This third installment in the Dangerous Love series was a coupling I had been waiting for. They have always had electric on page chemistry, and I loved getting to see their story. I do hate that it was done with the whole "accidental pregnancy" trope thrown in there, but this book felt high stakes. It was nice to see both of the characters soften more towards each other as the grew closer through their adversities. All of the deep topics were well handled, and I appreciated the real nature of this novel. This series is definitely worth checking out.

I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Kinsley and Rhett have known each other for years. With Kinsley having a major crush on Rhett for years, when she has a chance to be with him at a wedding, she jumps at it. Rhett has noticed Kinsley for years, but knows that he's not good enough for her.

After they hook up, Kinsley knows that nothing will ever be the same again. But, what neither of them knew was just how much their lives would change. Rhett starts to re-evaluate his reasoning for always wanting to be alone. His life made senes when he was in the military, but now, nothing seems to make sense anymore. Kinsley will have to adjust her view on what her happily ever after looks like too.

With a threat nobody saw coming, love on the line and each character having to find themselves, Rhett will fight to save what he didn't know he was missing and Kinsley will have to hold on to her love for Rhett, despite the circumstances.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ruthless Bastard is the final book in the Dangerous Love series and I really liked it despite my usual aversion to some of the tropes. Rhett and Kinsley have known each other pretty much all their lives. Kinsley always had a crush on Rhett, but the latter only ever saw her as his best friend's sister. Rhett left for the military and returned home 8 years later when he got injured. And that's when Rhett finally started seeing Kinsley as more than just his best friend's sister.

Rhett and Kinsley are obviously attracted to each other, but they refuse to act on it for many reasons. However, inhibitions are lowered at Kinsley's brother's wedding and she and Rhett finally give in to their mutual attraction. And bam, two months later, Kinsley is pregnant! I think the unplanned pregnancy was the perfect trope to use here because it was the only thing that could actually push Rhett out of his comfort zone. Rhett has PTSD and is an extremely tortured hero. He doesn't think he's the type to settle down with a wife and kids, but everything changes when he finds out that Kinsley is pregnant with his baby. Add in some trouble from a motorcycle club and you've got some great suspense mixed with the romance. To be honest, I wasn't blown away by the romance, but I really enjoyed the suspense aspect of the book, especially the climax. Stacey Kennedy knows how to write some really kickass action scenes.

Final thoughts on the Dangerous Love series:

I think Ruthless Bastard was a great ending for the series overall, even if it was a little cheesy and a tad bit unrealistic (i.e. Rhett's PTSD going away completely—side note: I'm surprised none of his friends suggested therapy). But overall, I am satisfied with how the series ended and I'm glad that everyone got their HEA. The books in this romantic suspense series take place in the small town of Stoney Creek. It's very atmospheric and adds a layer of suspense to the danger that these characters find themselves into. My favourite book in the series is still Naughty Stranger, the very first book, mostly because it is probably the most atmospheric one in the trilogy. Also, Boone is my favourite hero in the series haha. If there is one thing that Stacey Kennedy does extremely well in this series, it is the awesome action scenes. She definitely goes above and beyond, to the point of shocking me haha. Just when you think the characters can't be in any more danger — BAM! She shocks the hell out of you. Very well done!!

Joaquin King is one character that has me intrigued. He'd be such a fantastic anti hero and I am hoping the author will eventually write his story. There is so much that can be done with this character!!

Here are my reviews for the first two books in the trilogy:

Book 1: Naughty Stranger

Book 2: Wicked Sinner

This was my favorite book of the series. I wasn't sure if it would be, with the long history between the two main characters, but I loved it so much!

Kinsley Knight owns a successful jazz bar, and she's fairly happy at 29, but still single. She has always wanted Rhett West. Since she was a kid trailing after her big brother Boone and his two best friends, Rhett and Asher. But, after Rhett came back from his final Army deployment, he was never the same relaxed, fun-loving boy again. She still loves him, but she knows he can never be what she needs. He can never let her in, not really. But, at her brother's tropical wedding, they finally stop fighting their attraction for one night only, with unintended consequences.

Rhett West is a hot mess. He's a successful homicide detective in his small coastal Maine hometown, but he had plans for a lifetime as an Army Ranger. Until a bullet to the shoulder took that choice from him, and sent him back to a home he thought he'd never see again. He has had major problems readjusting to civilian life, and he can't seem to let anyone close, except his 2 lifelong best friends, who are also detectives who work with him. He's always noticed Kinsley, and he's always known how she felt about him. But after he got home, he knew she deserved more than he could ever give her, so he worked hard to keep her at arm's length. He slept around, and drank too much, and generally was unpleasant to be around. But, after one night with Kinsley, he's been avoiding her for the last two months, until the night some bikers roll into her bar and give her a scare.

Rhett and Kinsley had mega chemistry, and after they finally acted on it the first time, they had a very hard time keeping a lid on it. They were drawn together due to their circumstances, as well as the threats to Kinsley and her bar, and they couldn't help but take advantage of their situation. This story had so many tropes I love, including two of my most favorite: best friend's little sister, and forced proximity. I really had fun watching these characters fall into each other, almost without realizing it at first.

The rest of the crew was fun to catch up with, after watching them get their HEAs in the 2 prior books. I love how they really are like family, with all their different crossed connections, and relationships. I love how much they are all there for one another, and truly love each other. Kinsley's dad is also so great, and I loved how he trusted her to deal with her own life, and make her own choices. They all really loved both Rhett and Kinsley and hoped for the best for them.

I felt like the suspense plot was pretty strong here, and you never knew when danger was right around the corner. It kept me on my toes and I enjoyed that aspect of the story. I also liked how the danger really moved the story along between Rhett and Kinsley. If you've enjoyed this series, I think you'll really like this book as well. This was my favorite story of the 3, and I loved how it closed everything out for all these characters we've come to love.

This was my first series by this author, but I enjoyed all 3 books so much. I highly recommend this series, and especially this book!

This book was everything I was hoping for ! Although this pair, Kinsley and Rhett, got off on a shaky start they worked through their differences. I thought the author did a great job turning their somewhat standoffish friendship into more.
This series always surprises me to because it's different than what Stacey Kennedy usually writes. I really like this suspense filed drama with a lot of love and feelings

I really enjoyed this series but there was one thing that bothered me so much that it distracted from enjoying this final book. At the end of book 2 Remy is pregnant then she is suddenly not in this book and it’s not explained or touched on at all. Then at the end she’s 5 months pregnant again? This had so much potential but I find it so frustrating when authors make errors like this. It made it difficult to get into Kinsley and Rhett’s story, which was disappointing because it’s a great story!

Rhett and Kinsley were fun. This book was both hot and emotional, their connection was strong and it was clear that Rhett feels that he is not worthy of her, and that he is not really someone that she could love.

You feel sorry for him, while you connect with him as he is written in such a way that you not only want him to get his HEA, but you like him.

I enjoyed and recommend this title.

The Dangerous Love series is such a good one and I was really happy to be back with this group of people!

Kinsley Knight is the sister of Detective Boone Knight and she's owns a bar/jazz club, Whiskey Blues, in town. Kinsley has spent time around Boone's best friend's for years, but Rhett West has always been the one that she has wanted for herself. But he's always been off-limits since he is her brother's best friend.

Rhett went into the military and expected that was going to be his life's work, but when he was injured and subsequently honorably discharged, he had to figure out what he was going to do with the rest of his life. He's come home and is working as a detective, but he is still haunted by things that happened during his time in the service and also the fact that he had to give it up.

When the opportunity presented itself at her brother's destination wedding for Kinsley to have the one taste of Rhett that she's always wanted, she took it. Now that they are back home, she's trying to get back to normal, but when her bar is threatened, things are anything but normal. Now fighting for the business, Rhett, her brother and their other friend Asher, are doing everything they can to help her. Rhett is involved from a detective standpoint, but Kinsley means more to him than he's ever let on to anyone else. Can these two actually find their way to one another and make it work?

I loved this book and I read it in one sitting. The characters are fantastic, it kept me on the edge of my seat with the action and I also loved the way Rhett and Kinsley's romance unfolded. The friendships and sense of family in this book are another reason that I loved it so much. Kudos to Stacey Kennedy for another winner in this series.

Rhett and Kinsley have known each other forever. Kinsley has always liked her brother’s best friend. The feeling is definitely not one sided which is always great in this trope. They shared a brief encounter at her brother’s wedding. It was fun and exciting but Rhett pushes her away.

Rhett has a lot of triggers from his military time. He is a scarred man and no longer the teenager in love with his best friend’s sister. He has pain in him that makes him a cold and hard. The author tells the readers that he is this big standoffish guy but when it comes to Kinsley he is such a softie. I liked him a lot but a part of me wanted to delve deeper into that hurt.

Kinsley opens a bar in town but is in over head with the local gang. They don’t want her running the bar in town. Rhett is no pushover and immediately his Alpha side kicks in for the woman he cares about. There is nothing like a threat to push a couple together.

The sexiness of this story is off the charts. From the beginning where they had this uneasiness to them to the end where they are in love there is no denying the chemistry of these two.

Of course, there is drama, action and suspense as Rhett has to deal with the gang. As the two get closer, Rhett also has to deal with his friendship with her brother. There is such a fine line to play within. Kinsley doesn’t care as she wanted him her entire life. She handles the relationship in such a mature fashion.

This is a quick and easy read. I read it in one swoop from cover to cover and enjoyed it a lot. There are so many great characters popping in and out of the story. I can’t wait to go back to the start of the series because I definitely want to read more.

Stacey Kennedy’s RUTHLESS BASTARD is like a cautionary tale for falling in love with a hot, broody, overprotective guy. This is another snap-out-of-it situation, because in this sexy suspense, the stakes are high. We learned from Sons of Anarchy that fighting against biker gangs in a small town is like knowingly walking over to a wall and banging your head against it. Repeatedly and for fun. Geesh, can’t a guy put on fancy leathers and ride his motorcycle without joining a gang self-destined to run guns, drugs and women? This is my favorite book in her Dangerous Love series, because I am crazy about Rhett West and Kinsley Knight. On the one hand it’s a ‘best friend’s sister’ love story that means Rhett can never repeat the one night stand he had with Kinsley, or reveal that she’s the woman he loves. But on the other, these are two robust characters who are mature, well-written and realistic in their attraction. Acting on it is tantamount to willingly going with the biker gang—denying it is so much worse, in a different way. But the heart wants what the heart wants, and in this case the danger takes a backseat to true love. Kennedy places the angst and tension in the right place—the bad guys—rather than in a loopsy-endless tug of war between Rhett and Kinsley. I loved the pacing and the danger of the story, and the way the characters circled one another while ultimately giving in to love.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review:
Ruthless Bastard is the third installment of the Dangerous Love series. This one is about Detective Boone's sister, Kinsley Knight, and his best friend, ex-military, Rhett West. Kinsley owned the town's jazz club, Whiskey Blues. She had loved Rhett since she was young but for him, she was forbidden. The military had destroyed him and he believed that he couldn't give her what she deserved. Kinsley was determined to at least have a taste of him in order to move on. That one night changed their lives forever. Not only they had to find a way to make things work but also to fight against the new threat that came to town and targeted her. They went through hell but that made them stronger and showed them what they truly needed in their lives.

It's an angsty action-packed romance. This book is a page-turner, with such a strong and addictive plot and the amazing characters. My favorite was Kinsley, she was a force of nature with a big heart. Remy came second best with her magic potions. I liked the balance between the love and the action, it spiced up the story. Also, I found interesting the way the author approached Rhett's PTSD. My favorite scene was when all of them went out together, such a cute moment. I enjoyed reading it and I recommend it to everyone. I will rate it with 4.5 stars.

Love can repair even the most damaged heart!

Rhett knows he's damaged goods, and it's easier to let everyone think he's a ruthless bastard than to try to prove them wrong. Kinsley is the exception, but he knows the man she thinks she sees in him no longer exists.

After one explosive night of giving in to their simmering attraction, he doubles down on his efforts to keep out of her life. Until the night she's threatened at her bar and calls him for help, which also gives her the opportunity to break the news to him that will change his life.

I loved the respect between these two characters. Kinsley knew that Rhett could offer her nothing unless he made significant changes, yet she respected him enough to accept him as is, whatever he can be for her, and never even tried to change him. Rhett's entire personal growth trajectory was wholly from within, as he allowed the feelings he had for Kinsley to take over and lead him into a new sense of self.

There's quite a lot of danger and suspense in this story as our detectives try to figure out who is trying to put her out of business or out of commission entirely. Rhett is the hero Kinsley needs, the hero he was born to be, and I loved every bit of their story. The supporting characters are very familiar from the earlier books in this series, and it was wonderful to see them still involved with each other in their solid circle of friends.

Towards the end there was even a surprise secondary romance for one of the secondary characters, bringing this whole series to a truly satisfactory ending. The epilogue was everything I could hope for. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Rhett West- ex Army Ranger, current police detectives in small town Maine.
Kinsley- owner of Whiskey Blue, daughter of the chief of police. Has been in love with Rhett since she was 14.
Rhett and Kinsley are pure magic.
Kinsley has long loved Rhett. She has stood by as he left for the Army Ranger. She watched him come back a shell of the man he was before. Kinsley stood by and never judged Rhett’s behaviors.
Rhett goes against his own reason and has a one-night stand with Kinsley at her brother Boon’s wedding. He instantly regrets it. Fast Forward 2 months and he has been avoiding Kinsley even though she has been trying to call him. A scuffle at her bar brings him running to her and this is where things get good!
Kinsley and Rhett have such an amazing connection. There is something so magical about Rhett. He feels broken but his actions show that he isn’t. Kinsley has been raised with out a mother, due to her mom leaving when she was young. Kinsley worries she isn’t enough for someone to stick around for her.
It is so awesome to see Rhett’s protective nature kick in when Kinsley and her bar are threatened. There are so many moments when you get a glimpse at the kind of man Rhett is.
Rhett is totally swoon worthy. He made this book for me. I love all of Stacey Kennedy’s books and she does not disappoint with Ruthless Bastard. This was a 5/5 read for me. And Rhett got himself added to book boyfriend shelf!

Kinsley Knight has forbidden written all over her, she is the younger sister to his best friend, and that is a line he knows he shouldn't cross... even though he has once before. They let their attraction for one another lead them to bed one night, but the next morning he decided it was best to go back to a "hands off" rule with her.

He does his best to keep his distance, but when she calls one night asking for his help he can't help but come rushing to her defense...

Between the pages of this steamy little literary romp readers will meet a brooding wounded hero and the feisty woman who is determined to find her way into his heart. This forbidden pairing brought life to the pages, you couldn't help but get wrapped up in their little show. Rhett was determined to keep the lines clear between them and stay true to his friendship with her brother, but Kinsley didn't believe in lines, so she pushed him at every turn. I loved watching her push his buttons and tempt him every chance she got, and of course watching him try to contain himself around her, they kept anticipation levels high throughout. They were quite the pairing! I loved every single second of this one, the words were so intense and passionate, it was impossible to not get entranced by them!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, via NetGalley, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

Rhett West is the kind of guy who makes “protective alpha” feel like a full-time job and trust me, he takes it seriously. Enter Kinsley Knight, his best friend’s little sister turned bar-owner who has been secretly stealing his attention since high school. Sparks fly, tempers flare, and somewhere in between, an unplanned pregnancy makes things deliciously complicated.

Kennedy knows how to make tension sizzle. The chemistry between Rhett and Kinsley is equal parts frustration and attraction like a slow burn that occasionally sets off fireworks. Every stolen glance, heated argument, and tender moment adds layers to their dynamic.

Rhett isn’t just a muscled, broody hero. he’s got PTSD, emotional baggage, and the kind of loyalty that will make you swoon. Kinsley is no damsel in distress; she’s tough, witty, and more than capable of holding her own. Together, they’re a combustible mix of passion and heart.

Yes, the unplanned pregnancy trope isn’t new. But here, it’s more than a plot device. It forces the characters to grow, make hard choices, and confront long-buried feelings. Throw in a biker gang threatening her bar, and you’ve got tension that keeps pages turning.

Ruthless Bastard is part romance, part suspense, all heart. Witty, steamy, and a little dangerous, Stacey Kennedy delivers a story that hooks you from page one and refuses to let go.

Rhett West is not looking for a relationship or anything like love. He just wants to look after the people, friends of his. Now his friend’s little sister Kinsley Knight has run into some trouble at her bar. Texting him 911 he rushes down to find a biker gang there. After confronting them he and Kinsley finish the night. That is the most he has talked to her since they have returned from her brothers' wedding. She finally got what she wanted a hot fantastic night with Rhett the man she has been in love with for years. He of course panicked and must stay away from her. He is too old, she is his best friends’ little sister, on and on with the same excuse after excuse.
This all changes though when a different biker gang comes telling her to close up along with other threats. She also has a surprise for Rhett and as much as he is trying to work out his demons, he is still having problems with people but not being a cop.
A good story with good characters all around. Enough action to keep the story moving along but not so much as to overtake the story. Overall a good book. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

Ruthless Bastard is a brother’s best friend/accidental pregnancy/small town/romantic suspense and the third book in the Dangerous Love series by author Stacey Kennedy.

Kinsley Knight and Rhett West have both grown up from their awkward teenage years, and can’t resist one another at her brother Boone’s destination wedding. Rhett’s military service and medical discharge have changed him deeply, and he has returned a “damaged” man. He joined the police department, and is still harboring a crush on his best friend’s sister. Kinsley owns a bar and ends up caught up in the middle of an intense gang situation.

This book is fantastic! I love the way the author makes the story flow so wonderfully, and details of the characters and their actions. This whole series is wonderful and intense. I love everything about this book! This wraps up this series so perfectly! I love the feels I got from this book. It has everything! I didn’t want to put it down. Loved this book and recommend it with 5 stars!

Ruthless Bastard by Stacey Kennedy is book Three in the Dangerous Love Series. This is the story of Kinsley Knight and Rhett West. I have read the previous books, but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Rhett had left his home town to join the Military and his plan was to make that a lifetime decision. But then he was injured which of course made that plan change to him being retired from the military and returning back home. But along with his two friends they became detectives in law enforcement. Rhett is a homicide detective who has taken to drinking to much and sleeping around to much. Kinsley has always had a crush on her brother's best friend but never got noticed or was able to act on it. But at her brother's wedding she does get her only chance to taste the forbidden fruit that is Rhett. But afterwards, Rhett goes back to ignoring her until she and the bar she owns becomes threatened. Rhett has gone into protective mode but especially after finding out something that Kinsley hadn't yet told him. Enjoyed this page turning story!
