AFTER LAUREN HUNTER is let go from a job she didn’t even like, she flies to Sydney to stay with her brother and re-assess her life.

That’s when she stumbles upon NBS Studios, the filming location of her favourite reality show, MultiDate. As a self-proclaimed superfan, Lauren has watched every episode of the six years (and counting) series, and is an expert on all things related to the show.

So when the opportunity to scheme her way into a job at the studio’s reception desk arises, she grabs it with both hands. And thanks to a previous chance encounter with the studio head, Lauren begins to climb the corporate ladder on her favourite show.

But with a bitchy executive producer thwarting her every step of the way, and two men giving mixed signals, the journey to the top isn’t easy. And with the discovery that MultiDate isn’t exactly what it pretends to be to the viewing public, Lauren soon begins to wonder if anyone ever ends up with the life they dreamt of.

You know what, this was just overall a fun read - I know lots of people get all cranky with the will they wont they or love triangle tropes but this was done so well (to me) I'm a sucker for everything that happened in this book - the reality show thing (I requested this because of the name of the book, I didn't even read the synopsis) was a surprise - I thought perhaps it was a show where a MC goes on a bunch of dates (funny right) I so enjoyed this book and would 100% recommend for some fun chick-lit

Lauren Hunter is taking stock of her life when she lands her dream job, working as a receptionist at her favorite reality show, MultiDate. She's a self-proclaimed uberfan but like with anything else, all is not as it seems. Can Lauren go after her dream life, like in her favorite show or is it all a set-up?

I loved this story and it's perfect for Bachelor fans. Reality tv meets real life in this funny, romantic comedy.

Lauren is treading water after having to abandon her career in the family realty business. The loss of both her apartment and the odious job she took after leaving real estate force her to change her life. Before figuring out what is next for her, she takes a trip to Sydney to visit her brother. A chance spotting of the studios where her favorite reality dating show is filmed opens doors she never would have peered through had she not needed to find a new career.

Lauren is likable from the start, and I couldn’t help but root for her through her many trials. From a producer who doesn’t recognize her value to the antics of the contestants on the show to one of the possible love interests behaving poorly, Lauren’s journey toward her HEA is an engaging one for the reader. Jules was a great character, and I will say that Lauren ends up with the man I chose for her. MultiDate is the perfect novel to slip into your beach bag this summer. It’s an easy read and offers a fun, escapist plot.

I chose to write a review after receiving an ARC.

I have a background in television/movies and have had some pretty implausible events happen in my life as a result, but this MC has me beat, lol. She doesn't have to toil or struggle too much before an amazing yet improbable new job, new apartment, and new potential love interest(s) show up. I ended up giving the book four stars, despite this, because I loved the overall optimism of the story and what a quick, fun read it was.

I received an ARC copy of Multidate from Hidden Gems in exchange for an honest review.

I loved Multidate. I had never read Kristy McManus’ books before, and I can honestly say I’m a new fan.

Multidate is a romantic comedy about a smart and cute young woman trying to make her way in the world. I enjoyed Lauren. I like that she is confident and hard working. She sticks to her values and is accepting of others.

I read Multidate in about two hours and snuck in some reading at work. I laughed all the way through!

Beautiful read. I am normally not a huge fan of trying books by new authors but when I found the cover on bookbub, I found it fascinating. The starting chapters were okay-ish but once you start reading the later chapters and get into the story, the novel is unputdownable. I loved the character of Jules and the fact that Lauren had such high morals. At some point in time, you would feel that this is an autobiography covering the early life of Lauren, the girl who went on to become a successful producer and how she ended up with the love of her life. But that feeling is temporary and you would soon get over it and treat the book like an amazing novel that it is. It is a perfect weekend read and I really wish it gets the limelight it deserves.

OMG.. to think I almost passed this book up because of the cover. I read the blurb for it on Hidden Gems and decided to read it. Am I gad I did. This was definately a fun read. Lauren finds out the reality of Reality TV is not what it seems. She gets a chance to change it and finds this was harder than she expected. Along the way she meets Jules who is the comic relief in this story. There were several times I burst out laughing at some of the repartee going on. Lauren also has family drama that comes across realistic. She is close to her eldest brother Josh who takes her in after she loses her job and then is told she needs to find another place to stay. So she moves from Brisbane to Sydney where her brother Josh lives. When Lauren meets Jules, he is like a fairy godfather and helps her with getting her first job at NBS Studios in Sydney. He also finds her a place to rent with his friend Finn as a roommate. (Jules thinks Finn should dump his girlfriend and hookup with Lauren .. but that is later). Jules takes her to all the great places to get a great price on linens, furniture, mattress etc. When Lauren was still in Brisbane, she worked at a phone store and met Patrick James. He wanted to trade her phone it. Later when working in Sydney at NBS studios, Patrick runs into her again. She did not know he owned NBS. He takes an interest in he professionally and personally. He promotes her to work on the reality TV show "Multidate". That is her all time favorite show. She knows every detail of the show and the contestants going back at least five years. When the executive producer finds out that Lauren is to work with her she tries to sabotage her. But Lauren is a strong and intelligent person and rises to the challenges that Ariel puts in her way. What will Lauren do when she is attracted to two men. She has a lot in common with her roommate Finn but he has a girlfriend and Patrick wants to pursue her but she is not sure because he is her boss. This is a wonderful read and should not be passed up. You will not regret it. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book via Hidden Gems and am voluntarily leaving a review.

so this was kind of all-round bad? maybe 1.5?
i don't think it was anything in particular, but mainly that nothing stood out or felt fleshed out enough. everything felt flat, it was unrealistic and the mc was bland. the funny gay best friend was there in full trope and it was kind of horrible, seeing my existence being diminished into this? (but not even mine, i think at one point bi people were forgotten or ignored, something about not knowing how straight men or lesbians dealt with women having feelings. as if they're the only ones having to deal with that? are there only this little categories?) also the mc said "are there homophobic people under 30 in Sidney still?" all surprised as if we do not have to deal with hate and microaggressions from all sides and all ages and all places? idk, to me, it just sounded like "look i'm woke" but actually shows how little you know and/or care about marginalised people and their struggles. if only nobody under 30 ever gave us any grief, imagine that.
oh, also fun (not) was seeing the words "a proper couple" used to indicate a monogamous relationship (again, of course, you have to specify things, don't lie, don't cheat, communicate and all that, but never dismiss relationships or couples that aren't like the one you wanted or hoped for as not proper????)

so a funny diverse friend who's not that diverse but does say "oh honey" all the time, unrealistic drama and unrealistic job moves, forgetting multi-gender attraction is a thing, using words harmful to non-monogamous people and feeding into stereotypes. also includes a summary and sneak peek of another book by this author called "lightweight" that sounded pretty fatphobic but i'd had enough and did not investigate more thoroughly so maybe it's not that bad (still. support other authors. preferably diverse and OV ones)

as a random aside: the cover on amazon kindle is a lot better than this one though

DNF'ed this one at almost 70%. Yep, I made it that far before I just couldn't summon the will to finish. This book was like oatmeal - goes down smoothly, nothing really objectionable about it, but nothing really tasty either. Overall bland.

The premise was interesting enough and seemed like a good set up for what was billed as a rom-com, but had neither rom nor com going on. I feel like the book started too early - the author could have cut out Lauren's entire time at the cell phone store and dealing with her first roommate since neither of those plot elements or most of those characters ended up having any material impact on the story. Lauren could have met Patrick elsewhere or it could have been a 2 page scene just to set the stage for later. I think the story should have opened with Lauren visiting her brother in Sydney, down on her luck, etc. That would have trimmed about 25% off the front of the book that could have been used to enrich the story or characters down the line.

The rest of the story just meanders along without anything *real* happening. Even when we get to the Multidate reality show portion of the story, there's just no oomph there. I also got tired of Lauren taking so much verbal abuse and backstabbing from Ariel - she either has the patience of a saint or is a doormat.

I didn't find any of the secondary characters to be fleshed out. Jules was a stereotypical gay best friend, Finn just a somewhat brooding silent type, Patrick is just "rich older boss man who seems nice" (also let's just say I have no appetite for an older boss man romancing a much younger entry level female employee, no matter how nice he seems), Ariel is "strident bitchy career gal".

Like I said, nothing was terrible but it felt like a book in which nothing really happened other than a nice young woman went about living life. Had to give it a 1 star since it was a DNF for me.

💕Lauren the superfan stumbles into the world of 🎬reality tv📺; can she handle the pressure and find love at the same time!😯
June 14, 2018
Format: Kindle Edition
👍👍An easy, breezy, sunny story in the best of chick lit tradition. The romantic component is not steamy, but I don't think heat is always necessary for a satisfying romance. The heroine is a sweetie, kind, vulnerable and somehow always able to pick herself up after a career or emotional setback, and, thanks to her attitude, find her way to something better.

Heroine Lauren and her handsome roomie Finn were my favorites, but author Kirsty McManus created a great crew of characters, each with a distinct personality and point of view. I am not fond of stories with lots of secondary characters that are easy to confuse. McManus knows how to keep the number manageable and their personality quirks distinct and memorable, from the ambitious salesman Cam to best bud Jules to hyper aggressive producer Ariel...

The contestants on the reality dating show don't feature as prominently as I expected, but Lauren's story was more than enough to grab me and hold me beginning to end. I really was sorry to reach the end, though it was a totally yummy way to go!😖

This is the third of McManus' novels I've read and I LOVED them all. The fact that this one was mostly set in Australia, a location I love to read about, was just an added bonus. :-)

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

This was a cute, sweet read about Lauren, who is obsessed with the hit reality show MultiDate. After a series of unfortunate events, she finds herself without a job or a place to live. She stays with her brother for a few weeks who lives near the filming set of MultiDate and finds a job there. It was a little unrealistic how she got her job at the studio, but I loved her coworker, Jules. He was humorous and a good friend. I like Finn and how Lauren and him seem to mesh as roommates. For the first part of the book, you are not sure who her love interest is going to be among 2 men, but she happily ended up with the one she did end up with. The characters are likable and I would be interested in knowing if how the MultiDate behinds the scenes were portrayed in this book are similar to what happens in today’s reality TV shows like the Bachelor or something along those lines. While I liked the premise of the book and the characters, I am giving it 3 stars because is dragged in places. I felt that this book could have been shorter. As I said before, it seemed a bit unrealistic about how she got her job at the studio and also how she suddenly finds herself with such an important role in the show. This is a standalone novel with a HEA and no cheating. I do plan to check out some of Kirsty McManus’ books.

I received this book as an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The writing is very good, easy to read with no confusion.

I wished there was a bit more of knowing what producers do and the advantages of her real estate background. I don't know what producers do so it was confusing why there was so many of them and her real estate work seemed useless when she was doing rental searches and checking out her potential digs. The most creative bit was when she got that posh guy ;) or of his cellular termination fee.

When she first hung out with her new flatmate, I immediately thought the guy was like her brother, so they could've made him more distinguishable.

There were some fun moments in the book like the intro to Ariel and anything with the perfectly observant front desk operator.

The ending was a bit strange. It was nice that it wrapped up things with her family and especially her long time friend but the last bits with the romantic partner were surprising only because the majority of the book was more about her, her independence and job...

I'm more of a romance reader so I'm unsure if I'll take a look at her other books as these aren't quite my style.

3.5 stars for the story and quality technical writing.

I really wanted to enjoy the read, but unfortunately I couldn’t bring myself to go beyond 17% of the book. The storyline and the characters – it was all such a cliché – a young girl with conveniently no strings attached who is incredibly beautiful, the best friend gay, the insanely rich bachelor who has waited for her his whole life. Of course, the guy has a private jet and a huge fortune, but she is selfless and these details don’t impress her…
Some episodes tend to be fun, like the beautician and the wax accident, but I really would enjoy it more if for once an author surprised me with unexpected characters of turns of events, which actually could happen. For instance, the main character could be plain looking or overweight and the guy still falls for her, the best friends is homophobic and she feels embarrassed by his remarks, the lover-boy is broke and not so perfect. Then it will feel less an invented story and more as a pick in someone’s real life. And plausibility is everything when you want to immerse yourself into a story…

Lauren Hunter dead-end job at Loony Rob's mobile phone store is the pits. Getting fired was the best thing that could happen to Lauren. Without her annoying job to hold her back, Lauren takes off to Sydney to visit her brother and try and figure out what comes next. As luck would have it she encounters a filming of her favorite reality show, MultiDate and uses this opportunity to worm her way into a job at the studio's reception desk. Using her acquaintance with the studio's head Lauren advances at NBS studio but all is not rosy at NBS. Lauren has to contend with a jealous female executive producer who out to get her and two unacceptable men vying for her attention. I guess the question is will Lauren end up with a happy ever after or not. You will just have to read cute romantic comedy and find out.

I received this advance readers copy from Hidden Gems Romance and I have written a fair and balanced review.

A fun little diddy about a women trying to find a career she enjoys while struggling with family drama and her attraction to two men. One whom is her boss, and the other has a girlfriend. She tends to be an accident waiting to happen. There are some quirky characters. Plenty of that 'mean girl' type of drama along with her family drama. There are some laughs along the way. It is a clean read, (sex is implied but not described or played out.) The story moves pretty fast and it's easy to read. There is a lot of time spent on the tv show she gets a job at, and while I enjoyed reading the behind the scenes stuff, I would have liked to read more of the romance involved, getting to see her relationship with the two men a little more than we did. We got to see their initial attraction, but didn't really get to see how their love evolved. As I mentioned, it is a clean read. No Sex or violence and mild language. Safe for 16+ readers.

*I volunteered to review an ARC of this book.

I love getting a look behind the scenes of the entertainment industry. It doesn’t ruin the magic for, I see it as just a different kind of magic. After a little bit of meandering to set the stage, this book lands us in the middle of drama central, in the heart of a reality dating show. The cast are one level of chaos, but the crew and staff are another kind insanity entirely. On its own, this would be more than enough for one woman to handle. Lauren also has more personal complications than she knows what to do with. Reality TV is my guilty pleasure, so this book made my spectacle-loving heart sigh with happiness. It’s got some lovely little plot twists I didn’t see coming, along with all the things I want for true enjoyment: a spunky heroine who’s nice but not a pushover, a quirky hero who’s also honorable, and a sweet happy ending that left a smile on my face.

Loved it!

The first thing that’s obvious: the book is written in first person - present tense. Normally not my favorite, but the author makes it work!

I loved the book. I laughed, I cried; this was definitely a five-star-book. The perfect read for a lazy summer day. Or lazy winter day in the Southern hemisphere. I really liked Lauren. She is smart, kind, compassionate, fun and has morals. And I must say, the story didn’t entirely go as I had expected, which is always a plus; romance books can be predictable but this one wasn’t! I only would have loved to see the romance part of the book be a little bit longer.

The bedroom door stays closed.

I received a complimentary copy of this book through Hidden Gems. I’m not required to leave a review; I voluntarily posted an honest review. My opinions are my own. I received no remuneration for it.

This book is about a girl trying to figure out where she’s at in life. She’s lost her job and place to live when she stumbles upon her favorite reality show’s company office and happens to land a job as a receptionist. She ends up working as a coordinator for her favorite show and gets to travel the world with them. Her boss has showed interest in her but she’s clueless, and her feelings for her roommate has her staggering through. The book is honestly a little difficult at times, but still a sweet story, especially who she ends up with, I wish there was more to the final relationship though. I’m voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.

This book is so boring until the last 32% of the book. It is actually where things start to happen. Lauren is a people person, or what I network as a"a social butterfly". She is the one person who makes friends easily and everyone eventually likes her. She is also typically the one to have a hard time actually establishing a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship. We see this in the last 33% of the book and despite all that typically goes wrong in her life. She basically land on her feet. I wished the author started her on a relationship earlier than two-thirds of the way. I kept wondering how this was classified a romance.

Left me dissatisfied

The book is long winded, which is a little annoying but still readable. The heroine is young and has crazy good luck even when she's supposedly got everything going wrong. Annoying but acceptable.

Spoiler ahead: 90% of the book focuses on her with one relationship and the only interaction with the other love interest is a few shared pizzas and netflix, only to have them declare their love for one another at the very end of the book with very little reasoning or follow through.

Overall disappointing but points for actually keeping me reading through until the end.

As someone who repeatedly watches love island and is a sucker for a love story, I instantly felt I could connect with the main character of this story. This has been another book that I have been unable to put down. Read in just one sitting, this is a lighthearted, easy read and I enjoyed it so much, I will be looking for more books by @kirstymcauthor today. Lauren is a likeable character and I found that from very early on in the book- I wanted her to have a happy ending. My least favourite character was her friend, I just didn’t feel like she was genuine at all. Can’t wait to read more by Kirsty McManus.

Cute

I liked this book. The main character, Lauren, reminds me of myself in some ways. A job you don't like, but need, stress with family and friends. While it may not stand up to intense scrutiny, it is a nice light beach kind of read. The end got a bit cheesy, which is why I only gave it 4 stars. It's like the author had too many subplots going and didn't have the time to wind them to a natural end. I felt that there were too many resolutions in the last few pages. I enjoy a HEA, but it was a bit much. Laurens trials and travails were pretty on point, and I love her friend Jules.
Bottom line: super cute and readable, if a bit schmaltzy at the end.

Having lost her job and her apartment, Lauren finds herself moving and taking a job at the station where her favorite TV show Multidate is made. After a while she finds herself in the production of the show. Enjoy the behind the scenes drama of the making of the show. Along the way she meets two guys. She is attracted to them both so who will end up with her heart? Overall I enjoyed this one. The drama of the TV kept me needing to see what would happen next. Not to much guy drama but it was interesting to see how it all ended up.

I like what the author wanted to do with the plot but she didn't deliver it well. Everything was way to convenient and matched up too well.
*lost a job? it's ok here is a new one 2 days later, lost your apartment? No problem this guy also just found out he needs a roommate and so on, your boss hate you? Don't worry it won't be for long!*

Also the way people talk is almost robotic and too perfectly said. If it was just one person ok but all the characters.... nope again just makes every to easy and convenient. I wanted more issues that weren't solved in one meeting or talk.

Love isn't easy, but it sure is fun watching Lauren navagae some tricky Waters in this charming romance. Original, interesting, and engaging, I'm happy for the love that's found, but also for the laughs along the way. A wonderfully clever read that shows that reality isn't what it seems when it comes to television. Amazing writing and great characters, this is a must read romance. It's okay..

I finished it so it can't be terrible but it wasn't great. The chemistry between Lauren the two male love interests is seriously lacking. In Finn's case non-existent.
I found myself not warming very well to Lauren's character, she was overly apologetic, the dialogue was a little stiff and didn't flow easy & she wasn't really that interesting.
All in all I'm surprised I finished it. I'm glad I didn't pay for it.

This book started out really well. The main character was engaging. Alas, towards the end it got a bit muddled. I felt the pace was rushed to get to the end. I liked the development of Lauren?? I think that was her name. I liked the flirty interaction between her and Patrick. I feel that it should have stayed that way and not go into a full relationship. The Finn factor was much better, and was a more believable story line.

By far too short and even if I do not mean it in a good way, I have to concede it must have hold my interest to feel that strongly like I needed more. For me, it was unfinished romance wise as much as regarding the personal growth of the character. Nothing was solved or enough developed (where are going Lauren's career and projects from there/Philip abrupt departure/Finn lack of characterization.)
