DNF. I don't mind a light 'beach read' contemporary, but this one was just too light on substance. A silly premise of a curse from long ago, feuding families that hold a grudge for generations, a hero and heroine both in denial, and non of it made much sense. To top it off, the reader for this audio book was only OK. Her male and female voices were hard to tell apart at times. I called it quits halfway.
Of the three books in the series, Lucky Break is hands down my favorite. Not to say that I didn’t enjoy the first two, because I did, but this one just had that thing that drew me in and held my interest more than the first two. It was sweet, smexy and I enjoyed how the curse was finally dealt with in the end.
I liked Jason and Lauren and though I there were quite a few eye rolling moments with them, I wanted them to find their way back to each other in the end. The biggest obstacle in their way was themselves, not the curse. The amount of over thinking going on was crazy, but I liked how things worked out in the end.
Edward and Clara are hands down my favorites of the series. Even though we didn’t get a lot of time with them, I thought their story was very well done. I liked how they evolved throughout the last two books and how they ended up moving things along.
As for the “curse” I do like how it was finally put to rest. There was a good amount of crazy that happened before it happened, but it was well worth the wait.
While this isn’t my favorite Carly Phillips series out there, it was still an enjoyable read filled with very interesting characters. So if you’re looking for a fun read with a Practical Magic feel to it, then this is the one for you!

I really enjoyed the first two books in this trilogy, so I had high hopes for the 3rd and final book. And though this book was in no way terrible or even particularly bad, I did find it to be a bit disappointing. I was expecting something better.
Series Note: this is the 3rd and last book in Phillips's Lucky trilogy. Though you may possibly be able to read this book on its own and understand enough, I'd recommend reading the entire trilogy in order. There's a lot of background and continuing issues you'd miss if you didn't.
Summary: Jason Corwin is the last of the single males of his generation. His two cousins Mike and Derek have bucked the curse - the one that said any Corwin male who falls in love is doomed to lose it and any fortune he might have - and have married their true loves. Jason doesn't particularly focus too much on the curse, especially right now when his life is in shambles. His aspiration to become and Olympic snowboarder is over due to a woman who snuck a banned substance to him and caused him to test positive and be kicked out of the sport. So now he is back home, making due as a general contractor and not sure where his life is going.
Then Lauren Perkins (ancestor to the Perkins who cast the Corwin Curse) comes back to town. Years ago the two had had a teenage dalliance before Lauren's grandmother forced her to leave town (the same grandmother who was the blackmailing, conniving mayor in the previous books). Now Lauren is back to deal with the fallout of her grandmother's death, and her sister's criminal actions and subsequent mental breakdown. The last thing she expected to find was Jason Corwin and the chemistry that still drew them together.
Lauren hires Jason to help fix up her grandmother's house before she sells it and has every intention of keeping her distance from him, but the two can't keep their hands off each other. Lauren gives in, but it's only temporary, she's leaving town as soon as the house is dealt with. But then her house is vandalized, set on fire, and everything gets complicated, including her feelings. These two have a lot to work through before they can deal with their feelings for each other.
Review: I was rather looking forward to reading Jason's story after the previous books introduced him and the scandal he was facing. I thought his story was going to be really interesting and I wanted to see how he worked things out in his life. But after reading this book I was rather disappointed in how...neglected...Jason was in this story. Plus, on the whole, I felt the storyline was rather cliched.
When I realized what direction Phillips was going with this story - which was of a Corwin (suffering from the Corwin Curse) falling for a Perkins (whose ancestor started the curse - I kinda wanted to role my eyes because it's such an utterly predictable, cliched and typical storyline. For me, the been-there-done-that feeling of the story hook overrode any hmmm-isn't-that-interesting factor of a Corwin and a Perkins getting together. I would rather have had something more unique than the Perkins/Corwin hook-up. Just too typical. It's the type of storyline that's fairly common in romance books and it bored me as I read the story.
I also, for whatever reason, just couldn't really get into Lauren's storyline. I found it rather dull to read about how she's trying to fix up that house, how she's short on money, how she's neglected by her family, how she's trying to stay loyal to her whacko sister, how she's afraid of mice, etc etc etc. It was just a lackluster story aspect...at least for me.
I was much more interested in Jason and his situation. And unfortunately, he always seemed to come in second to Lauren in this book. I didn't think his career situation and the direction of his life was given nearly as much attention in the book as it should have gotten. It all seemed to be about Lauren, her situation, and and about Jason's "unrequited" feelings for her. I would have been much more interested in the book if Jason issue's had gotten equal time to Lauren's.
But despite the way those things bothered me, I didn't hate the book. They just made it an average read and a little disappointed. The romance was pretty good, had a bit of steamy-ness. I liked the cat, and the parts with the Corwin family. And probably a few other things. I just didn't feel as engrossed in this story as I did the first two. But it was still worth reading to close out the trilogy.
This is the final book in the Corwin trilogy. It was a good ending that brought things all together.
This book follows the last of the Corwin male cousins, Jason, son of Thomas. Jason was introduced in the last book, Lucky Streak. He is a snowboarder who tested positive for drugs and has been banned from the sport. He's come home to "lick his wounds" and be with his family. He's taken up the family business and become a contractor to make money.
Lauren Perkins, also introduced in Lucky Streak, is the granddaughter of Mary Perkins, the former mayor. She is in town cleaning up her grandmother's home preparing it for sale. She isn't a typical Perkins and doesn't believe in the curse or care to "keep it alive."
I think this is my favorite of the three books. It brings the curse to an ending and wraps up the story fairly well. The relationship between Jason and Lauren seemed real--the reactions to each other and their situations didn't seemed forced. Once again, there were no shocking twists in the story--it was all very simple and easy to figure out long before it was revealed.
It was a steamy read that was quick. It only took me a day to read. I'm happy with the ending to the series.
Last book of the Luck Trilogy and it read like Carly Phillips was ready to move on to other stories. It was a good story concept. Last single Corwin cousin, Jason, hooks up with Lauren Perkins, whose ancestor put the curse on the Corwins.
Lauren and Jason first hooked up when she spent the summer in Perkins at age 17. Now, 10 years later, she is back to sell grandmother's house and leave Perkins in her dust. Of course, she and Jason meet and it is instant fire. One of the hottest sex hook-ups I have ever read. Strange things are going on at the house and Jason is trying to make everything work. He knows this is nothing more than a short time affair, but his heart gets involved and Lauren is all set to take off for Paris after the house sells.
The book wraps up with the curse broken and everyone living HEA.
I've enjoyed each book in the Lucky series, and have to say Jason and Lauren pretty much stole my heart from the moment they saw each other again. I loved they couldn't keep their hands off each other from the very first moment they were around one another. The fact her family placed the curse on his family only made their attraction to one another more fun for me.
Even with the curse between them and family issues, Jason couldn't stay away from Lauren. I loved how protective he was of her, especially as stuff started going wrong at her grandmother's house. I had an idea who was behind some of it, but it was a bit of a mystery to me how this person was able to pull some of the stunts off. Of course, a couple of the issues were well meaning matchmakers, but those just made me laugh.
Jason and Lauren were such a great couple. They had both sweet and sexy moments when they were together. I felt like they both got the other in a way no one else really did. Not that they didn't have issues, as Lauren has plans to move to New York to be a fashion designer and Jason is a contractor in Stewart. Of course, Jason really was settling by being a contractor after his snow-boarding dreams went up in smoke. I just knew that Jason and Lauren could figure out a way to make both their dream careers come true, as well as they worked together to figure out who was behind all the upheaval at Lauren's grandmother's house.
Lucky Break was a wonderful wrap up to the Lucky series. I loved that we not only got Jason and Lauren's happily ever after, but also got to catch up with the rest of the Corwin clan. I loved that it took the Corwin and Perkins clans working together to settle everything about the Corwin Curse. The Lucky series remains one of my favorite series of books from Carly Phillips.
The completion of the series, the final Corwin unattached male from the current generation gets his story. Jason is home in disgrace, although innocent, he is a pariah in the world of snow boarding. Finding his feet he turns to contractor work. Lauren returns to settled things in her grandmother's house to get it ready for sale She doesn't expect to have her world turned upside down by the only man to ever make her breath stop. Will Lauren and Jason be able to overcome the curse, their families and the mysterious issues happening at the house? This is a stand alone book, but I highly recommend you read them in order.
What a great ending to this series! Lauren and Jason are both searching for some positives in life. Their teenage romance not forgotten brings them back together with some very sweet passion. Neither initially looking for anything more than a fling, ends with forever. Fate certainly has a way of intervening for these two and putting closure on a very old supposed curse. I loved catching up with the characters from the first 2 books as well as the very comical dads of the current Corwin men. They definitely make for some good laughs.
I received an ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book.
Thoroughly enjoyed the updated version. Jason Corwin is the last of the 3 current Corwin males affected by the Corwin Curse. Back in his teens he fell for Lauren Perkins, descendant of the Mary who placed the curse, and granddaughter of the current Mary. Now all grown up, they meet again. Lauren is preparing to go to Paris and be a fashion designer, but first she needs to fix grandma Mary's house and sell it to pay for her crazy sister Elizabeth's legal fees. Jason was on his way to being an Olympic snow boarder when he tested positive for PEDs, now he's home running a construction business. The two start working and playing together, but can they break the curse?
I would not liked this book as much if I hadn't read the first two. I was more attached to the characters and better understood the plot than if I had just read this one. I didn't like the girls' antics, it seemed like everyone picked on Lauren, and she mostly took it. I wish she had been a little stronger. We didn't get as much mystery as the first two in the series, however, we got a cute love story and nice endings for the family members.

Lucky Break is the final book in the "Lucky Trilogy" and it was a great way to finish!
Jason Corwin was a professional snowboarder that ended up being banned from the sport following a positive drug test. With that career over, he decided to head home to figure out what came next. He ends up working as a contractor, which is the family business, in order to make a living.
Lauren Perkins is the granddaughter of former mayor, Mary Perkins and she has come back to town to clean-up her grandmother's house so it can be sold and to help with her sister's mental breakdown. Lauren is considered to be the "sane" member of the Perkins family and all she wants to do is get the house sold so she can leave the past behind for good. She isn't planning to run into Jason or have the chemistry from years ago still be alive and well.
Jason and Lauren reconnect while he is helping her to fix up the house. While there is past bad blood between their families due to a Perkins ancestor bestowing the curse, Jason and Lauren are still attracted to one another and begin a physical relationship, all the while knowing it is temporary. It is also obvious they are definitely holding other parts of themselves back. While all of this is going on, someone is sabotaging the construction being done to the house. This complicates everything, including the feelings Jason and Lauren have for one another. Will they be able to concur the curse for good and get their happily ever after?
I really enjoyed this entire series, as I have with all other Carly Phillips books I've read.
Women and men do strange things in the name of love, I just think we have to wait and see what the Fates have in store.
Yes this is the 3rd book in the series and I bypassed the first two. So what? I'm more interested in this so I read it. Turns out, I was right. I had fun reading this book.
Maybe because it was different because a simple love story was fused with witch craft, curses and the likes. I loved the whole uniting the families to break the curse shenanigan.
Plus, it also tackles the subject of finding your dreams, setting your goals and doing everything you can to achieve it.
And though I'm not familiar with most of the Corwins because I didn't read the first two books, I still enjoyed reading about all of them - especially Uncle Hank. With all the somewhat innocently said lines, I was hooked. He was really funny. Examples? :D
“Why didn’t you put that thing on silent?” - Thomas “Because I don’t know how.” - Hank
-----
“When did you notice us?” - Thomas “When ‘Old McDonald’ rang on the phone.” - Edward
NOTE: that was Hank's ringtone
-----
“I can’t believe the loony-toon arsonist escaped!” - Hank
-----
"Imagine if your crazy sister came here and realized you and my nephew were a thing. News like that might send her over the edge. If she’s not there already.” - Hank
-----
“Tell me why I can’t get any peace in my own home?” - Jason “It’s not your home, it’s mine. You just live here.” - Hank
I guess I'll have to read Lucky Charm (the 1st book). Maybe there's more of Uncle Hank there since he's Derek's father. :)
Long ago, a witch proclaimed an eternal curse that every Corwin male who married for love would be destined to lose his woman and his fortune.... Jason Corwin knows he should resist his attraction to Lauren Perkins. But after one night of mind-blowing sex with his supposed and very seductive enemy, he can't bring himself to stay away.
All Lauren wants is to sell her late grandmother's old house and leave the past behind forever. But that's not an easy thing to do when gorgeous contractor Jason Corwin whispers sweet, sexy somethings into her ear...about staying. Then a saboteur and the promise of hidden treasure change everything, and one lucky break just might put an end to the Corwin curse....
This is a 3rd and final book in the triology (Others were Lucky Break and Lucky Charm). What a great end to the series. I really enjoyed this series and getting to know the characters. If you are looking for a great series, try this one.
Jason Corwin was a top snowboarder. He had dreams of going to the Olympics, until he tested positive for a banned substance. Laura is a descendant of the first Perkins who cursed the Corwin males. Lauren hires Jaeon to help her fix up her Grandmas house so she can sell it and leave. We learn about her crazy and rude family, things are found at the end of the book, The curse is lifted and the entire Corwin males are happy. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I know it says this is part of a trilogy, but I thought of it as a "stand-alone" book. She is back in town temporarily, trying to fix up her grandmother's home so she can sell it and sever all ties with this town. He is back after his dreams were stolen away. Now he's doing some contracting work and trying to convince her to stay. But others get in the way. Lots of meddling. And lots of fun!
I think that htis was a good end to the Corwin Curse series. I liked the characters and the interaction alot. I loved The Uncle's, they are really hilarious and add a fun twist to it all. Jason and Lauren have great chemistry and I liked that they learned to overcome their own insecurities to be together. It was definately a quick read, but enjoyable.I give this one 4 out of 5 stars.
I really enjoyed this book. Carly Phillips tells you a story that gets you involved right away, and makes you feel like you know the characters in the story as if they were your own family. I love anything having to do with the paranormal, curses, etc.
I also will read anything Carly Phillips writes, as she's got a fan for life in me.
There was nothing wrong with the plot of this book. The reason I didn't give it a five star rating has more to do with the diction of the author than anything else. Sometimes the writing comes across as slightly stilted, but they may also be a resultant interpretation of the differences in language between the author's generation and my own.
I enjoyed this last book and how it felt like all the loose ends were tied up. Lauren and Jason were a perfect pair and I enjoyed how all the family members seemed to haven grown up so much- specifically the Perkins and the Corwins.I was surprised at Gabrielle & Amber's part in getting Jason and Lauren together. Hee hee!
FANTASTIC little chic flic romance story! ALL 3 of these books were highly enjoyable. Every character had me LMAO! However, I will say that Lucky Streak (#2) was absolutely the funniest of them all. Hands down! PS....I really wish Uncle Edward and Clara had their own story, even if it was a short story in an Anthology because that man had me in stitches....stinky Pete! Bawaaaaaaahahahahaha!
The third book in Carly Phillips' Lucky Trilogy. Another just okay read. It had its moments but not enough of them. This is what I'd call a light-hearted romance. It wasn't bad but it didn't engage my attention enough to truly appreciate it.
Lucky Break is the 3rd and final book in the Series. The Corwin curse … all Corwin men who fall in love will be destined to lose his love and fortune … No Corwin has walked away unscathed or have they? The final cousin is Jason Corwin … disgraced world champion Snowboarder who returns home and falls back on what he knows, and becomes a Contractor.
Lauren Perkins is an up-and-coming fashion designer, and she is also the executor of her grandmothers estate. Her grandmother Mary Perkins, the old Mayor, had a heart attack after being arrested while her sister Beth is in the prisons psychiatric ward. Lauren returns home to get the house ready to sell, and is working to get her sister transferred to a psychiatric hospital.
It's the night of the Fall Festival, and it's a Masquerade. Lauren decides to attend and she's hoping to see Jason. It's been 10-years since she's seen him in person. Jason recognized Lauren, and can't believe she's doesn't tell him who she is. The attraction is still there.
Lauren can't believe the condition of her grandmothers house and needs a contractor to fix it so she can sell it and leave town. Jason wants to do the work and get to know Lauren again. Their attraction to each other is off the charts, but nothing is ever simple. Jason manipulates the situation so he gets the job. Between his cousin's wives playing cupid, and someone setting a fire to the house things keep going from bad to worse. There are so many twists and turns as these two work on getting the house ready that you become drawn into the story … from dealing with the issues surrounding Lauren's sister Beth and Jason's father and uncles … and most of all the Corwin Curse!
Lucky Break ties up the Trilogy perfectly. I read this series when it was first released, and I enjoyed revisiting it. I volunteered to review an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The final book in the Lucky trilogy, this is the last single Corwin cousin, Jason. Jason was an Olympic bound snowboarder who failed a drug test that got him thrown out of competitions for two years. He was set up by his main competitor's girlfriend. He is back in his hometown, licking his wounds and working construction jobs for some income. Lauren is the sister and granddaughter to the previous mayor and assistant of small town, Perkins. Both arrested after an arson. The elder Perkins has passed away while waiting for her trial. Lauren's sister is still mentally unstable and institutionalized until she is fit to stand trial. The financial burdens have Lauren coming back to Perkins to finish off her grandmothers old Victorian home so she can sell it. This second chance romance couple were broken up when they were 17 and 18. Lauren being sent back home by her grandmother for having a relationship with one of "those Corwin" boys and Jason leaving to pursue his snowboarding dreams. Both were broken hearted, and their attempts to move on were never successful. Jason arranges to be the only contractor available to help Lauren with the few weeks she has to do her fix-ups at her grandmother's home before closing is scheduled. Their close contact and strong chemistry they have starts back up a physical relationship that slowly becomes more. There is some mystery and suspense toward the second half of the book before everyone has to make choices that will effect the others.
Who says curses are real? The Corwin men that’s who. Many years ago, there was a curse put on any Corwin man that dare to love. Lauren is a woman back in town to remodel her grandmother’s house to get it ready to sell. Jason and Lauren spend a summer together as a couple until the faithful day Lauren’s grandmother sent her back home to keep her from Jason. After all, Lauren’s grandmother as well as Lauren are part of the Perkins family which is known to have put the curse on the Corwin men. Lauren’s sister Elizabeth Perkins is in a mental hospital for burning down the bar in town because she didn’t want to lose the power that her and her grandma thought they had over the town. She was sentenced to jail psychiatric care. Unfortunately, she is not “out of it” as everyone thinks. When Lauren is back in town and meets up with Jason again she is determined to be with him again while she is in town. Jason has a longer relationship in mind. Unfortunately, things keep happening that Lauren is unaware of that is prolonging her visit and the deadline of having the house remodeled in time to meet her deadline. Could Elizabeth have anything to do with the mishaps? The fire? The mice? Guess you will have to read to get the full sexy thrilling story.
*An advance reading copy was provided to me in exchange for an honest review. *
The final book in the Lucky Trilogy centers around Jason Corwin and Lauren Perkins. Yes, it’s the same Perkins whose ancestor put that pesky curse on all the Corwin Men in Stewart, MA.
Jason and Lauren weren’t strangers to one another. They had met as teenagers. Lauren and her sister came to town to spend summers with their grandmother. Jason had dreams of becoming a professional snowboarder. Once Lauren’s grandmother found out that a Perkins and a Corwin were interested in one another, she sent Lauren away.
Years later, Jason has returned to town after the “curse” landed him in hot water with the Snowboarding Association Governing body. Lauren is back to fix up and sell her grandmother’s house after what her grandmother & sister did to the town, which ended her sister up in a prison mental institution and her grandmother in jail, until she dies of a heart attack.
To make ends meet while he was trying to get his name cleared, Jason became a contractor. He makes it virtually impossible for Lauren to hire any other contractor to help her get the house ready to sell. As hard as she tried to resist Jason, since she had a life outside of Stewart, this was their second chance to find one another and see if they could finally banish the curse for all future Corwin generations.
Lucky Break is the 3rd and final book in the Lucky series and what a way to end the “curse” over all the Corwin men…."Any Corwin male who falls in love will be destined to lose his love and his fortune” so not true…..
This is about Jason Corwin and Lauren Perkins and if you read the other two books you will know the curse was put in place by a Perkins from long, long ago. While the younger generation is starting to not believe in the curse the older generation still strongly believes!! So when Jason and Lauren make a re-connection the good old boys will do whatever they can to stop the relationship from happening….but Jason is determined to show them that while Lauren has the last name of Perkins she has nothing to do with the “curse” and they want to have their second chance at a HEA.
Lauren on the other hand just wants to sell her deceased grandmother’s house, take care of her sister who is in a prison psychiatric hospital in what the doctors are calling a comatose state but all is not what it seems…..
Jason and Lauren are working together to solve the mystery of the “curse” after finding an old diary in the house as they are fixing it up. Will they figure out the mystery and solve the “curse” to find their HEA or will the “curse” continue for future generations???? Will all other loose ends be tied up too???
Fashion designer Lauren Perkins is the descendant of the Mary Perkins responsible for the Corwin curse, any Corwin male who falls in love will be destined to lose his love and his fortune. Lauren had met and fallen for Jason Corwin during a summer visit to her grandmother when she was 17 years old. Unfortunately Lauren was banned and sent home to her parents after her grandmother found out about Lauren sneaking out to see Jason. Lauren's grandmother is now dead and Lauren is in town to restore her grandmother’s old Victorian into saleable condition. Contractor Jason Corwin had been 18 when he'd met Lauren Perkins and she'd had some starry-eyed notion of them running off together. Jason's dreams of Olympic gold meant that there was no room for anyone in his life. In the years since, Jason has often wondered what would have happened if Lauren's grandmother hadn’t sent her packing. Jason is at the Annual Fall Festival when the gorgeous Lauren walks back into his life and rocks his world. Will this second chance at love lead to a HEA for Jason and Lauren?
Lucky Break is intriguing, suspenseful and steamy. Carly Phillips has paired an entertaining story with interesting characters for an enjoyable read. I highly recommend this book.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book
This book is the perfect ending to a phenomenal series!!! This is the story of Jason and Lauren. Jason is an Olympic snowboarder who failed a drug test and was banned from competing for 2 years. Jason knew that he was set up...he just needed to prove who did it and he has his suspicions who was behind it all too. Lauren has her own problems to deal with. She has come back to Perkins to sell her grandma's home to help ease the financial burdens that was placed on her thanks to her family. She wants to put the past behind her and the best way to do that is to get rid of this home. Jason is the contractor that is gonna help her fix up the house. Jason and Lauren had a connection one summer but her family put a stop to that. The attraction is still there and they begin to explore it further. They also try to figure out the mystery behind the curse as it was one of Lauren's ancestors that placed it. This was their second chance of a happily ever after.
I loved the Lucky Series. I am sad that it is over but it ended on such a good note. I can't wait to see what Carly comes out with next. Another fantastic read by Carly Phillips!!!
