Cosy Kettle #2

A Summer Escape and Strawberry Cake at the Cosy Kettle

Rate this book
The Cosy Kettle café is the perfect place to escape this summer, for fans of Cathy Bramley, Jenny Colgan and Debbie Johnson. Guests can tuck in to fruit puddings and strawberry-studded ice cream, but for Flora, the warm summer breeze is blowing in big changes…

When Flora finds out about her husband’s secret fling, she escapes to the one place she feels her beloved café, the Cosy Kettle , in the charming village of Honeyford. Serving up cream teas to her café regulars is the perfect way to soothe her broken heart, and although she’s never lived in the area, the little community welcome her with open arms.

She’s soon lodging with local eccentric Luna in her remote and beautiful Starlight Cottage, snuggled between rolling green hills. Luna’s handsome son Daniel lost his wife several years ago, and as Flora gets to know him, sharing walks through the blossom-scented woods, they both slowly begin to heal… and she realises that behind Daniel’s quiet exterior, there’s a passionate nature that makes her forget all about her ex-husband.

As she settles into her new life, hosting a baking competition for the village’s summer celebration seems like a great idea… but with Daniel’s mysterious silences leading Flora to believe he’s hiding secrets, she can’t help but wonder if she can really trust him. And when the race to bake the perfect Victoria sponge stirs up old rivalries between locals, Flora starts to feel like she’s bitten off more than she can chew.

After her new start, will Flora ever truly belong in Honeyford? And, this summer, can she risk opening up her heart again?

I live on the south coast of England with my family, and write heart-warming, emotional women's fiction and romantic comedies.

When I've notched up my daily word count, I enjoy reading, walking by the sea with friends, singing in a local choir, and watching TV. I love sci-fi programmes and still harbour a childhood crush on Captain Kirk.

Book Reviewed on www.whisperingstories.com

We are back at the Cosy Kettle cafe in Honeyford. This time the book focuses on Flora who owns the bookshop that the cafe is inside. Flora returns home early one afternoon and finds her husband Malcolm in a compromising situation with one of his waitresses from the restaurant he owns.

Although he begs Flora to stay she decides she needs some time to think about her situation. She has been married for a long time and doesn’t like the prospect of being on her own, she also doesn’t like the idea of her husband being with other women.

She decides that the attic of the bookshop is a good place to stay until she sees all the spiders and cobwebs, so she is relieved when Luna who owns the magical shop a few doors down offers her a room at her house. However, she wasn’t expecting Luna’s son Daniel and his young son to be living there too, especially when she has recently had a run-in with Daniel.

There is also the summer celebrations to sort out and a mysterious author of a book she loves. Will Flora return to Malcolm and give their marriage another try or will she find the courage to leave her marriage behind and move on with her life?

It was lovely to return to Honeyford. I loved the first book, New Starts and Cherry Tarts at the Cosy Kettle, but I was little apprehensive reading this second book as the main character this time, Flora, I didn’t really take to in book one.

As the book evolved I began to warm towards Flora. She is a lovely woman once you manage to peel back that tough exterior, although I was really surprised when the author wrote she was in her 40s as the way she acted and her mannerisms came across as someone much older. I was expecting her to be well into her 50s.

There is a lot going on in this book, from Flora’s marriage issues, the summer celebrations, Daniels son’s problems with school and the mysterious writer of a book that is taking Honeyford residents by storm.

I never like Malcolm in book one and he ups his game in this book. He certainly is a piece of work. I was keeping my fingers crossed the whole way through that Flora wouldn’t give him another chance. You will have to read the book to see if she does or doesn’t.

My only tiny issue was that I wanted to see more from Callie and Noah, I know the book wasn’t about them but a bit more coverage would have been lovely as I adored them both, as well as Callie’s Gramps Stanley who made me laugh so much in the first book. I do hope he appears more in future books to come.

This is a wonderful, summery, fun book that will leave you with a smile on your face. Whilst I believe it can be read as a standalone, I do suggest reading book one first so you know the background of the area and the characters.

𝒟𝑒𝓁𝒾𝑔𝒽𝓉𝒻𝓊𝓁. 𝒟𝑒𝓁𝑒𝒸𝓉𝒶𝒷𝓁𝑒. 𝒟𝑒𝓁𝒾𝒸𝒾𝑜𝓊𝓈.

Liz Eeles has written a delectable story full of charm and whimsy. It was a lot of fun returning to the Cozy Kettle. Books and yummy delights, what more could you want? This is the second book in this sweet series, but it can absolutely be red as a standalone. In this book we do revisit characters from the first book and that was lots of fun, but you won’t be lost if you did not read that book. But why deny yourself? You can have a cherry tart and some strawberry cake. 😋

This book is about Flora and how she deals with the aftermath of catching her husband Malcolm in the arms of another woman. Flora is such a good person and Malcolm is such a slime (I did not like him in the first book). I definitely had no trouble rooting for her to kick him to the curb! That is not exactly what happens, but she does pack her bags and move herself to the charming village of Honeyford. Now that she is both working and living in this small village she forms a deeper connection with the community. Flora finds a place to live with Luna, her son Daniel and grandson Caleb. Luna was a great character a little magical, a little mystical, a little witchy. There is also a bit of a bookish Mystery involved, and that was fun! And I cannot forget the bake off, that was delicious! My only little complaint was the romance, I just didn’t necessarily feel it between Flora and Daniel. Not to mention Flora was a strong savvy woman and I don’t think she would get involved with another man so quickly. This is also just a personal preference for me I’d like to see a woman get back on her feet without the need of a man. Despite this I thought this was an absolutely charming read, the perfect book to add to your summer TBR.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and couldn't wait for this one to come out and it's amazingly well written and has you hooked from the first page to the end. The characters are brilliant and shows how you have to over the summer learn where you belong and risk opening your heart has heartbreak and romance to and friendship great place to escape for the summer.
Flora heads gone to her husband at the weekend as she leaves the cosy kettle book shop and cafe and when she gets home she learns her husband has a secret fling she heads back to Honeyford village and she starts serving customers and it's the perfect way to mend a broken heart. She tries to stay in the small room above the shop but it's full of spiders. But local eccentric Luna comes into the shop and says she can stay with her at her beautiful little cottage she really isn't sure but once she sees it she decides to stay for a short time to sort herself out. Problem is Luna son Daniel who is handsome lives there with his son and he lost his wife a number of years ago. She starts walking in the woods and sharing time with him they both learn to open up and it makes her forget her husband. She throws herself into helping with the villages summer celebrations and she thinks Daniel is hiding secrets but is her. Her husband turns up in the shop saying he wants her back but she needs time so tells him she will decide at the end of the celebrations. She really gets into organising the celebrations and her husband says he will help but can she trust him and will the day go as planned or will problems arise. Will she learn what Daniel is hiding and who will she choose and will the village except her or not has she taken on more than she can chew.
Perfect escape for the summer and worth more than five stars.

This was book 2 in the series, but I could read it as a standalone. To me, all the characters were new, but each was interesting in their own way.

The story went thus, Flora found her husband Malcolm with another woman. The rat!! All rats try to invigilate back, and this one tried too. Flora needed time to think so she packed her bags and off she went to love with friend Luna in the village of Honeyford.

This was Flora's story and the relationships she forged within the community. My first book by author Liz Eeles, and I was delighted to read it in between my thrillers. I loved Flora, but it was Luna with her mystical magical charm who captured my heart.

The entire story generated a deep warmth in me, where though I knew it was fiction, but it still felt real. Charming characters, honest emotions, a depth to the relationships, mystery and romance (though I wasn't too fond of it) made this a delightful read.

With cakes in the title, how could I forget the cakes and the baking? They were all there for me to savour...

All in one cozy afternoon, this book was perfect!!

Even before I read the blurb for this book, I was immediately pulled in by the cover. It reminds me of a cosy summer cottage where I could curl up with a good book and get lost. I knew I wanted this one as one of my summer reads.

Flora is in her mid 40s and considers life to be near picture perfect with her thriving bookstore and husband who owns a successful restaurant. Unfortunately, everything comes to a crashing halt when she catches Malcolm mid tongue lock with one of the waitresses (who’s in her 20s). After realizing that Malcolm has been having an affair and lying to her, Flora leaves her life with Malcolm in Oxford and relocates to Honeyford where her bookshop is.

As someone who had a very similar experience happen, I couldn’t help but immediately feel for Flora and everything that she had gone through. Malcolm is literally the world’s biggest piece of sh*t. He doesn’t support Flora. He thinks her bookshop is a waste of time hobby. He is incredibly condescending.

It’s not until Flora starts residing at the Starlight Cottage with Luna with her son Daniel and grandson Caleb that she starts to realize how much of her life had been devoted to someone who was too selfish to care about her. I loved watching Flora grow increasingly independent and sure of herself as she started taking a larger interest in both her customers at the bookshop as well as the community of Honeyford as a whole.

It was really important to me that the romance between Flora and Daniel wasn’t rushed and over the top because, let’s be honest, no one needs a rebound after a relationship comes crumbling down. Plus with Daniel as a widower and single father, it felt much more natural that Flora and Daniel started off on very uneasy footing and had to actively work to get to know each other and knock down the walls around their hearts.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. This book didn’t really come across as the laugh out loud type (unless you’re laughing at how over the top Luna can be), but it definitely is heartwarming and will have you rooting for both Flora and Daniel the entire time. This is definitely the perfect summer read for an afternoon filled with sun and sangria. I can’t wait to read more books from this author!

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the eARC. This did not influence my review. All opinions are my own.

This is the second standalone book in this marvellous Cosy Kettle series and this time we get to know Flora a lot better.

I hated Flora's husband with a passion, and had everything crossed that she would come to the right decision.

I love the combined cafe and bookshop, and catching up with the characters from the previous book, and seeing how they are all getting on.

The town of Honeyford is rather special and I really loved Flora's story, involving Luna, Daniel, Caleb and a mystery author.

There is a plot featuring a self published author which Flora as a bookseller was championing, which I could really identify with as a book blogger, as I love the idea of being able to promote a gem a book that you have found, including this one!

This was a delight to read, and I'm already looking forward to seeing Becca's story in the Christmas book.

Thank you to Bookouture on Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily

Oh I was so excited to be reading another novel by the lovely Liz Eeles again! I have adored every single one of her books and this one was no different. I really loved the first one in this series of novels and I was looking forward to being back in Honeyford with such caring characters and it's idyllic sounding setting. The cover, as I knew it would be, is absolutely beautiful and it's certainly the type of novel I would go out of my way to pick up - it's very eye-catching with it's bright colours and sweet treats along the bottom of the cover! I love the pink sky, the colourful bunting and flowers and the cute awning over the cafe windows.

This particular novel follows bookshop and cafe owner Flora, who I've been intrigued about since book one and couldn't wait to read more about her. She seemed quite reserved and quite snobby in the first book but I quickly warmed to her during this one. At the beginning, Flora leaves work early to go and meet her husband, Malcolm, at his restaurant and finds him in a tight embrace with one of the - much younger - restaurant staff. Heartbroken, Flora moves out and moves in with slightly crazy but completely lovely Luna, as well as her son Daniel and his son Caleb.

A lot happens for Flora in such a short amount of time and I completely felt for her. It must be horrible to be with someone for so long, only to find them with someone else. And I must say that I thought Malcolm was a really horrible man! He was patronising, made nasty remarks and I just couldn't stand the man! Malcolm was the only character whom I didn't like however, and I loved all the rest. I particularly warmed to Caleb, bless him, as well as Becca and of course Stanley. They all seemed like such lovely people. It was also interesting reading about the relationship between Flora and Daniel, you could just feel the spark between them!

I also love the events that take place throughout the novel, the Charter Day event, the parade, the book club and the author event all sounded really fun and I loved the community feel that you got throughout this novel. I fell in love with Honeyford all over again and I really hope this isn't the last one in the series! I'd love to read about all of the characters if I could! This book was like a warm hug. Thank you to the publisher for a chance to read this novel via Netgalley, which I have reviewed honestly.

Oh, it was so good to be back at the Cosy Kettle and wander once again through the streets of Honeyford. In March of this year I was very excited to share my review of New Starts and Cherry tarts at the Cosy Kettle with you! But today I am equally excited to share my review of its follow up A Summer Escape and Strawberry Cake at the Cosy Kettle.

In this second installment of the series we follow Flora. And to be honest I was really curious about how her story was going to play out, considering that we don’t get a lot of information about Flora in the first book. She is there, but we never get to see behind her façade. We only see her trough Callie’s eyes and I was really curious to see who Flora really was.

With flora we wonder down a different story pad then with Callie. Flora is older and has been married for 20 years. So when her husband cheats on her, everything she thought she knew is on the line. I think Liz really brought Flora’s struggle to life on the pages of this new book. Everybody, including Flora knows Malcolm is a ***, but there is such an internal struggle going on. 20 years of old habits and familiar situations isn’t something you just close the door on. I really appreciated the realistic take on Flora’s situation.

Apart from that I loved seeing Flora deal with her new life in Honeyford. She is really questioning herself and her bookshop. Will she ever be accepted in the little town or will she always stay the city girl who bought the bookshop on a whim. With Charter day on its way we really get to know the town and its locals more.

And then there is Luna. A lovely older woman who has a magical shop in the highstreets of Honeyford. She is kind, caring, eccentric and well… witchy. Her character really made my heart sing. Luna is a wonderful character and I loved how her witchy ways were portrayed in the book. Never silly, always full of respect. A lovely way to bring paganism and esoteric living closer to regular readers.

Once again I must confess I absolutely loved being at The Cosy Kettle! I am already looking forward to spend my Christmas with Becca there!

I enjoyed this even more than the first book in this delightful series.

Flora, who we met previously, is the owner of the bookshop and cafe in Honeyford. She finds out her husband is having an affair and moves out of the marital home and in with local resident Luna who is very spiritual and owns her own mystic shop in the village.

Luna's son, Daniel, and grandson, Caleb, also live in the family home following the death of Daniel's wife in a car accident some years previously.

The story follows the intriguing friendship between Flora and Luna, a potential blossoming romance with Daniel and the obnoxious husband (Graham) trying to win Flora back.

Fans of the previous book will be delighted to get glimpses of Callie, Noah and grandpa Stanley throughout!

There is a bake-off, a mystery author (who actually wasn't a mystery to me but it was still an excellent subplot) and a comical storyline involving a famous author as well as a happy ending that I was rooting for from the get-go. Readers will find Flora so likeable, it was great to get her story this time around and I can't wait to re-visit Honeyford for Becca's story!

My many thanks to Bookouture via NetGalley for providing me with this advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.

The author takes us back to Honeyford where she told Callie’s story in the first book of the series. Because I really enjoyed it, I was very keen on reading the second part as well.

This time it’s Flora who is the main character and she is surrounded by a lot of people we met in the previous book. It was nice to hear more about them and Grandpa Stanley is still as hilarious as before, but she introduces us to new villagers as well.

The cover is mouth watering and the way the author describes the goodies that are for sale in the cafe … I wished I could dive into the book and devour a piece of one (or more 😉 ) of them.

It’s true when you live your every day life you think you are happy. You never take the time to reflect because often you are so busy and you are in a kind of routine. You do not look around you anymore or you take everything for granted. Suddenly something occurs and turns your world upside down and that’s when you realize what went on for too long already. Is there a way to turn everything around or is it time to let go and make a new start?

The author has created a lovely story in a wonderful village. There is room for romance (of course), parts that make you laugh and parts that break your heart. 5 stars

Thank you, Liz Eeles, Bookouture and Netgalley.

This is an excellent book, and is positive and definitely a breath of fresh air, especially given the times we are experiencing at this present moment. In this story, Flora, the main character, has taken over a bookstore and opened a café in a small town in England. She thinks things are going along fine even if her husband is less than supportive, but when she catches him cheating on her with one of his employees, she moves out and has to make some difficult decisions. Her savior comes in the form of Luna, a woman who runs a New Age shop near Flora's store, who invites Flora to stay with her until she gets on her feet. Flora does not suspect that the man and child she was extremely rude to in her shop just happen to be Luna's son and grandson. That changes everything in what she thought would be a peaceful household, and some of the changes are very disconcertng to someone who is trying to find her life's path. This book is an excellent read, with wonderful characters, a very good setting, and a great plot. I can't wait to read the next book set in this town, and hopefully, with some of these characters.

5 star review of  A Summer Escape and Strawberry Cake (Cozy Kettle #2) by Liz Eeles

Liz Eeles is a new author to me and this was a fun read that I really enjoyed. The title of the book intrigued me as did the blurb.

The writing was descriptive and certainly drew me to Honeyford and the wonderful people who live there.

Flora is the owner of the cafe and bookshop, married for twenty years, she finds out her husband cheated and now she is questioning her life. Will Honeyford accept her or is she doomed to remain an outsider?

I really disliked Flora’s cheating ex and was happy she left him. I was happy to see the sparks fly between Flora and Daniel.

The secondary characters were entertaining, particularly Luna, a woman who has a mystic shop in the high street. She is quirky, unique, caring and compassionate.

There is so much to enjoy in this story. The parade, the Charter Day event, the love of community was heart warming. The friendship between Flora and Luna was intriguing and added to the enjoyment.

I received a copy of this book through the publisher via Netgalley.

Flora escapes to her lovely café in the Cotswolds when she discovers that her husband is cheating on her. One of the other shop owners offers her a room whilst she is working through her problems.

Luna is a wonderful character, she reads people’s auras and is a real individual, mystical and mysterious. Flora had a bad day when she met Luna’s son in the café and it takes a while for their relationship to thaw. But I loved the way that they were drawn together.

Charter Day is a big event in Honeyford and Flora is roped in to help bring a fresh approach, alongside various planning meetings. I loved the bake off and the parade bringing the community together.
The characters are all wonderful and it was a lovely read. It would be perfect to take away on holiday.

Loved the book!! Second book in the Cosy Kettle series and just as delightful as the first one. This book centers around Flora. Flora is trying to decide whether or not to forgive her husband and go back to her old like. Honestly, I didn't think it was that hard of a decision. Malcolm is simply an awful husband. I didn't care for him in the previous book and in this book his true nature is on full display. One of the many horrible things about him, is that he blames his infidelity on his wife. Becca, Callie and all the usual book club members show up. Stanley is still up to his usual shenanigans. The eighty year old is still a daredevil and fond of using hip slang words. There could be a book about the adventures of Stanley and Dick. New to the book are Luna, Daniel and Caleb. Luna was a wonderful help to Flora and exactly the person she needed.

Definitely recommend the book and the previous one. I love this series and hope there's more books to follow. I definitely see a story about Becca. I look forward to reading more books by the author. I love the cover of the book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bookouture through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Omgggggggggg!!!! What a SCRUMPTIOUS read!! I demolished Liz Eeles’ latest treat in less than two hours without even trying. I genuinely could not, and did not want to put it down at all. You may remember the authors previous book being the first instalment of the ‘Cosy Kettle’ series, but do not fret if you haven’t read the first before before reading this one as they each can be read on their own. However, I would advise that you switch your phone to silent, grab a ginormous slice of cake and ignore EVERYONE around you while you binge read these two books. Trust me, when have I ever been wrong?!

So, Flora has taken over a local book shop and has opened a cafe inside it called ‘The Cosy Kettle’. In a small village like Honeyford, community spirit is rife, but the downside to that is everyone knowing your business. Especially when ones business is something you do not wish others to know due to mortification on your part! Rumour has it that Flora’s husband has been dabbling in a lot more than the leftovers from his restaurant….if you catch my drift. Of course he blames Flora for his infidelity, as though she commanded him to stick his tongue down another woman’s throat. Yeah….a wife would TOTALLY do that. Well, actually, they might if they had pre-arranged to dabbling in their marriage, however Flora had not agreed to that.

Whilst Malcom’s cactus personality commandeered a lot of the storyline, Flora’s new friendship with her new landlady, Luna, and her family had me giggling and feeling quite emotional at the same time. Ever since I had my daughter, if a storyline contains a situation where a child is sad, I come over very emotional and motherly. Thats exactly what happened here. I don’t want to give too much away, and I know that I am being a soppy date by becoming a bit teary eye at Daniel son’s sadness, but my heart did go out to the little boy and even though Flora didn’t exactly approach several situations in a way that Daniel would approve, her heart was completely in the right place and I was so glad that the little man had someone on his side when he felt as though he had nowhere to turn.

Stanley is up to his old tricks again. I laughed. It’s a bit difficult not to, although the images that my mind conjured up weren’t exactly what I had ever thought I would be imagining……!!!!

I absolutely-flipping-FUDGECAKE LOVEEEEEDDDDD this book!!!! I am #TeamFlora all the way! Malcolm is a doorknob, a cactus, and anything else that can be used as a double entendre! I am sure I have made my feelings on him perfectly clear, however if you aren’t sure what I think of him, I DIDN’T LIKE HIM! Just incase you had any doubts in the matter!!!!

The ‘Cosy Kettle’ series is swiftly becoming one of my all time serials due to the colourful personalities of the characters, beautifully and witty storytelling from Liz Eeles, and the fact that the books are so unique and bubbly in equal measures. Not only that, the book contains enough sweet treats to make you dribble without even realising it. How do I know this? Two words; wet patch…..

A delicious, scrumptious, huggable and colourful read which made its way into my heart quicker than I could eat a muckle slice of chocolate cake!!

This is a great book that will certainly make your heart swoon and dance around.
Gentle, yet strong story of second chances and pursuing your dreams. Liz Eeles did it again. I gobbled down this yummy book in several sittings. I really loved it.

I read this series out of order; I read the third book first, followed by the first book, and here I am, just finishing the second book. I have completed the entire series and I am glad to say that I've enjoyed all the books featuring the characters integral to The Cosy Kettle - Callie, Flora, and Becca - and their respective stories.

This book features Flora, the owner of the bookshop and describes her desire to be accepted by the locals in Honeyford and make her business a success.
Her husband of twenty years, Malcom, is not as supportive as she desires; he treats her business as 'a hobby' and downplays whatever she does. He even has the audacity to question her decision-making capabilities.
Regardless of his foibles, Flora was happy and content with her life - until her life turns upside down due to her husband's infidelity.

Once again, Liz Eeles created a very engaging, charming story in this Summer Escape and Strawberry Cake at The Cosy Kettle. The overall pacing was a bit slow but I adored Flora's journey to independence and her departure from her old 'comfort' life which is safe, yet complacent and uneventful - perfectly moulded for her by her a bit controlling husband.

My impression of this book being slow is attributed to Flora's going back and forth about whether to forgive her husband. She goes through a lot of teetering in her mind but it's perfectly comprehensible considering her situation. Slow-pacing actually worked in the book's favour, it enhances the impression that Flora is carefully weighing her options. I did wish she were a bit more confident and made her decision sooner when she knows deep-down that she might not be able to obliterate the suspicion towards her husband, but overall, the slow-pacing didn't mind me at all. I enjoyed the nicely executed development and Flora's growth as a character.

The author's writing is lovely and gorgeous as always, and the descriptions of the landscape of Honeyford captivated me. I particularly liked how the depictions of the scenery or the colours of the sky often precede the clinching moments where something important is about to happen. It enlivens and enriches the story even more, the author definitely has a way with words, I'm convinced.

My only niggle (which is hardly noticeable, by the way) is the romance. I knew they have grown attracted to each other and the procession is slow, but Daniel's blunt facade kind of made it a bit hard to spot the attraction. The zing-zing seemed to have developed on Daniel's part when I reckoned he was opening up. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved it, but it could have used a teeny bit more transparency.

My niggle doesn't really change the fact I appreciated and enjoyed the book. A heart-warming story that can be read throughout the year (despite the title), and if you haven't already, give this series a go and get to know the charming village of Honeyford and its residents.

Returning to Honeyford and the Cosy Kettle Café tucked in the bookshop, this story is focusing on Flora, the new owner of the bookshop and her struggles to make things work, even when her husband Malcolm is subtly (and not so) undermining her efforts. Again the little town, while looking at her cautiously, is open to hearing and supporting her, particularly when she discovers that Malcolm is having an affair with a waitress in his restaurant, and tries to blame Flora’s preoccupation with the bookshop as the reason. While Flora is struggling to find a way to continue to say no to Malcolm’s demands, she is rescued by Luna, the owner of the ‘new age’ shop in town, and offered a refuge in terms of room and space in her cottage. Moving in with Luna to her cottage offers her a space to sleep, beautiful views, a vegan meal and interactions with Daniel and his young son Caleb.

Yet Daniel and Malcolm are not thrilled with Fiona’s new choice of living space: Malcolm because he wants her back to be a ‘helper’ (read unpaid dogs body) at the restaurant, and Daniel is worried that Fiona is looking to take advantage of his mum. It doesn’t help that Caleb had an ’accident’ in the café, with spillage and dents involved, and Fiona (already having a bad day) was less than understanding. But, she’s got so much on her plate AND is desperate to find a “fit’ in the little town of Honeyford that she’s all in for the upcoming festival: one where their 900+ year old Royal Charter for the market will be celebrated with an ‘all hands on deck’ event in town. Being more than a bit of a snob, her husband doesn’t think that she is spending her time ‘usefully’, and is doing his best to manipulate, degrade and bully her back into ‘her place’ so his life can proceed unfettered. Yet, despite her personal tumult, Flora is determined to make the bookshop (and their participation in the festival) a success, and pushes back at Malcolm’s efforts to bring her back home.

Like the first (New Starts and Cherry Tarts at the Cosy Kettle), Eeles brings us everything: a palpable feel of the town, clever and rather eccentric characters who all have a ‘point’ to make in the story, a sense of community and the actual goodwill and openness to Flora and her efforts to fit in. It wasn’t all an easy or straightforward path for her, but when she took a bit of Luna’s advice, Eeles again created a story where Flora was allowed to grow and flourish, finding a new and different way to define her place in the world and her acceptance into the little village. A lovely series that will be sure to leave you with a smile and more than a few moments to laugh.

This book was sweet and cosy, just like the title suggests. This was exactly what

When Flora discovers her restauranteur husband in a passionate embrace with one of his waitresses, her world starts to fall apart. She turns to the bookshop and cafe she manages in the village of Honeyford, including a New Age eccentric called Luna, and Luna’s son Daniel and grandson, Caleb. At first, things seem to be getting off on the wrong foot, but soon Flora finds that she is discovering sides to herself that she never knew existed.

This did take a little while to get going. For the first third of the book, the conflict was all a bit superficial. Malcolm, Flora’s husband, showed up a few times and made things awkward or difficult, and quite a lot of the conflict in the book was “Oh, I don’t know whether to leave Malcolm for good or not!” which became a bit repetitive after a while.

There is a bookish mystery going on through a lot of the book as well (again, this got a little repetitive, particularly as I had predicted the outcome pretty early on). I have to say I did find this whole plotline a little unlikely – the idea that a self-published book that seemingly was just thrown onto the Internet in its first draft form could be so perfect and universally adored by every woman in town… hmm.

Some of the characters did seem a bit over-the-top, such as Stanely, who at 80 has decided to live life to the fullest, and embrace extreme sports. But I did like some of the other characters, such as Luna. Yes, she aws a bit of a hippy, but she meant well and really looked after Flora.

I enjoyed how Flora came to care for Caleb, despite not being a kids person. I thought the misunderstandings between her and Daniel, particularly when it came to Caleb, were quite well done. She didn’t know what she was doing and made some mistakes, but Daniel was able to see that Caleb did care for Flora as well. I have to admit I didn’t really feel like there were ever sparks flying between Flora and Daniel. Obviously, I could see the direction the book was going to take, but their feelings developed maybe a little too slowly/subtly.

Still, this story of finding love and finding yourself in a small town community was a fun read, and sometimes that’s just what you need.

Genre: Romance

Pages:

Rating: 4.5

The Cosy Kettle café is the perfect place to escape this summer, for fans of Cathy Bramley, Jenny Colgan and Debbie Johnson. Guests can tuck in to fruit puddings and strawberry-studded ice cream, but for Flora, the warm summer breeze is blowing in big changes…

When Flora finds out about her husband’s secret fling, she escapes to the one place she feels safe: her beloved café, The Cosy Kettle, in the charming village of Honeyford.

We are back in Honeyford and ready for Flora's story. She took over the bookshop and also added a café in the back.

One day Flora goes home early and catches her husband Malcom in bed with another woman, a much younger one. He begs her to stay, but continues on with the lies. Flora leaves and sleeps in the attic of her shop. Luna Purfoot, the owner of ... Feels that Flora is not doing well and offers her a room in Starlight cottage. Flora is heitant, but decides to take the offer. Luna doesn't live there alone, her son Daniel Nd grandson Caleb live there to.

Flora and Daniel are off a rocky start, but somehow they click. I liked, how they first meet and Caleb is just adorable. Daniel has been through a lot and tries to hide his feelings. Flora has to decide what happens with her marriage. Mal om shows up a lot and wants her back. Both Daniel and Flora have a lot to figure out.
She starts reading a book he suggests and that book turns out to be really important. Then there is the Cosy Kettle and the bookshop, where Flora works a lot. Caleb seems to be in trouble as well. It sounds like a lot, but Liz Eeles managed to created a wonderful storyline, full of atmosphere and I just couldn't put the book down. I loved it from the first minute! The characters are very well lined out and we were also able to catch up with some old characters, that was lovely.

The book is full of emotions and feelings and has some surprises in store as well. Everyone played a key role in the story and it was grat to see, how they were there for each other.

Loved every second of it!

This is the second book in the Cosy Kettle series. When I started reading I knew immediately I had been in this setting before. In book one they featured Callie and Noah’s relationship. In this book it focused on Flora, the owner of the bookshop.

This was a really sweet look at how betrayal and heartbreak can lead to new beginnings that change everything. Flora finds herself displaced when she discovers her husband of twenty years has been having a fling with the hired help. Flora flees to Honeyford where her bookshop resides and decides to put all her focus into it.

This isn’t exactly a hate to love romance but it is pretty close. Flora almost immediately insults Daniel and his son Caleb when she is in a pretty low and vulnerable mood and then ends up having to live with them both after Luna, Daniel’s mother invites her to stay at the Starlight Cottage.

Some of this story is almost like watching a trainwreck about to happen. You can see the trouble coming and wonder how they will worth through this particular mess.

I enjoyed my visit to Honeyford again. This is a sweet story that will keep you coming back for more. I wonder which resident’s story is next? Becca, perhaps?

A beautiful book. This is my first book by this author so I'm not the best to ask if it's a series or not but I read it as a stand alone and understood it throughout.
Loved the characters especially Luna the crazy wizard lady who everyone chooses to steer away from. In times of need Luna opens her door to a woman Flora who is in need of a room after she finds her husband in a situation with a woman,, I've been in floras shoes and I can tell you now flora held the trump card and controlled it greatly.
Luna son and grandson lives at the house too and they become wuit a well suited odd family. Gloras room is to die for and flora has a big decision to make. I'm not going to tell you what happened but theres love, and comedy in this.. I really loved the cotswold town and I'm glad she left stuffy oxford.
Thanks to netgalley.

I read this story in a day, I couldn’t put it down. So good and once again the characters are so real and relatable.
How I wish I could own this bookshop and cafe and be introduced to all the wonderful people the author has conjured up for our enjoyment. Quick synopsis: flora runs a bookshop and cafe, she has some relationship decisions to make. She lodges with the delightful Luna, who’s son Daniel and grandson Caleb also reside after trying to come to terms with a devastating loss. There ensues a glorious tale of friendships, love and fun.

This book was so sweet, I really enjoyed it. It was the pick-me up I needed. I had not read the first book in the series so don't think you can't just jump in! As a book lover, a story about someone who has taken over a bookstore in a small cute town (Luna). Her husband has cheated on her, and he is such a toad. She is finding a way to be on her own and it's a joy to watch. She makes friends and finds a way to be a part of the community.

Thank you to Bookouture, Liz Eeles and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
