Conrad Mayfair is finally becoming comfortable in his own skin, so he wants to tell his best friend Mason that he’s gay and in love with him. He can’t seem to get the words out, though. But soon the flirting starts, followed by a weekend of marathon sex, and the shocking news a few months later that Conrad is going to be a father.

Something’s going on with nineteen-year-old Mason Donnelly. He seems to be developing breasts, has felt sick for months, and is constantly tired. After a doctor’s appointment to try to figure things out, his life flips upside down. He learns not only is he intersex, but he’s also pregnant, a condition only made possible because Mason is an omega and Conrad is his alpha.

Conrad and Mason are introduced to a new way of life they knew nothing about. While Conrad is willing to jump in and accept it, Mason isn’t so sure. Together, they have to decide if it’s a life they truly want.

In Expecting, we have two best friends who slowly realize they have feelings for one another. Mason is gay and has always had romantic feelings towards his best friend, Conard. On the other hand, Conrad thought he was always straight but slowly realized that he might not be as he started to see Mason as more than just a friend. However, they soon realize that at 19, things aren't what they seem as they learn they are becoming parents.

The good:

I did enjoy this story. I liked how we got to see the experience of a pregnancy in an omegaverse story, rather than having the characters only get pregnant at the end and have the birth rushed or glossed over.

I enjoyed the idea of having a secret (ish) omegaverse society within a normal human population. The characters were easy to like. It was easy to care about Mason and Conrad's relationship and their story as they experienced it. I found the heat sex to be decently written, and I enjoyed the world-building or, rather, the attempt.

I also like how the author discusses intersex in the story as well. There are also discussions of how one identifies and that nothing needs to change, you are who you are or who you want to be.

It made me laugh. I do not often laugh when I read books, but some of Mason's banter, snark, and comments got a few laughs out of me. The whole situation was unreal and so silly.

The bad:

The writing. It was a very awkward start to the story. It was dialogue heavy and more talking rather than showing. It was jarring and hard to get into it at first. There were also editing issues and awkward use of words or phrases.

I have a lot of questions regarding the world the story takes place, but I think a healthy amount of suspension of belief is needed for this story. While the concept I enjoyed, there were a lot of questions on why certain characters did things or things that were mentioned but not really addressed. Such as Conrad not wanting to be ready to come out and be public about his relationship with Mason. He was not even prepared to define their relationship, but suddenly he was all in and always loved him, yet Mason doesn't address his initial behaviour. (but that's fated mates for you).

Overall:

I think the idea and concept were solid. The characters were likeable, and I liked this series's potential. I was engaged and read it in one sitting, so it managed to capture my attention and keep it. I think this may be the author's debut work or at least one of their earlier books, so I give them a pass. While it is far far from perfect, I enjoyed myself and plan to read the other books in the series.

Overall I give it a 3 for the entertainment it provided me and potential it had.

I have to be honest and say that this book totally blew me away. I already love MPREg books but this book was different from the other books that I have read. Sarah Haven did such an amazing job on writing this book. I am thoroughly impressed.

Conrad and Mason have been best friends since middle school when they met. Mason has always knows he is not as butch as other guys and he has always known that puberty was much later for him then normal but he has tried to accept that fact and not let it affect the way he looks at himself. Another thing that Mason has always known and has never hidden is the fact that he is gay. The one thing that he has never been honest with aconrad about is the fact that he is in love with him. He does not know how Conrad will react much less feel about it since Conrad is straight. Or at least mostly straight. Lately Mason has been wondering about that though.

Conrad has known for a while that he is gay but he has not told anyone. Just like he has known for a while now that his feelings for Mason has changed from best friend to more as well, but again he has not told anyone. Conrad is just now accepting what he knows to be true about himself and his feelings for Mason. He does not know if Mason feels the same way and if he does, if things will change between them because of those feelings. But Conrad also knows that he has to tell Mason because it is getting next to impossible to hide from him.

What neither man knows is Mason is of the Omega blood line, whereas Conrad is from an Alpha bloodline. And neither man is aware of what a heat is or how it affects an omega and his alpha when they are true mates. But both men are soon to find out. Not only is there relationship about o completely change between the two of them but so is every aspect of their lives. Especially when they find out that even an omega male can and does get pregnant.

How will these two men handle all the surprises that is coming here way? Will they be able to handle all the changes or will one or both decide that it is just too much to bare?

This was an extremely good read. Sarah Haven did such an incredible job on this book. I have read many MPREG books but I have to say that this one is so completely different then any of the others that I have read. You just have to read to understand what I am saying. Definitely a highly recommended read. I cannot wait for the next book in this series to come out!!!

Was given this galley copy for free for an open and honest review

Not bad. I feel like the world building for the omegaverse was a little muddled. You really, REALLY, have to suspend your belief or you would think the characters were complete idiots for the entire read. Some of the omega tropes, which you can excuse in fanfiction works that have an established supernatural basis, you can't really overlook here. In a world with little to no societal knowledge of alphas and omegas, I think most people would be alarmed far sooner than Conrad or Mason were by their bodily changes. I feel like the wolf dna thing could have been left out as well. I liked the psuedo scientific explanations much better, mostly because I didn't know how much was completely made up and what real medical conditions were thrown in there, lol.

I think that the characters, especially the friends not in the omegaverse, were a little one dimensional. They were mostly just plot devices thrown in to add a little angst. Like when Conrad's mother called the conception of the twins disgusting. I thought that there would be more to go with that but it was basically just heart eyes once she saw Mason's baby bump.

Also, this book needed a tighter editing job. I feel like it would've benefited from one more read through to catch mistakes like repeated use of you're instead of your.

3 stars. Definitely is a starting point if you're new to omegaverse which at this point in my reading life, I certainly am not. Hence the 3 stars. This felt very introductory and bogged down with information to the point where it felt convoluted. It was also kind of repetitive which I'm not a fan of. The writing was good, the smut was hot but the characters themselves didn't work for me. They felt very one dimensional.

You've got the alpha and you've got the omega. That's it. They didn't really have personalities to me. Though I did like the fact that this was set in college.

This book definitely had all the elements of being great but in the end it just feels overly explained and yet still underdeveloped if that makes any sense. If you're new to the genre and just want to dip your toes in to see if it's for you, I'd suggest this book. Otherwise, this doesn't really bring anything new or different to the omegaverse genre.

So this was an interesting read. It contains a whole new take on the omegaverse world. It did take a bit to get used to. I was not really fond of either character actually. one was whiny and the other kind of average. It was a great book though. The ending was happy which is what i try to find in books.

This was an excellent addition to the mpreg genre. It was the best from-the-ground-up explanation of male pregnancy that I have ever read and it also had great characters. Mason and Conrad were awesome, Mason's reactions were so funny. This series starter has me anticipating the next book in the series.

This story was a good solid 4 stars for me for the first few chapters of the book. It had a bit of a gay for you/gay for your friend (though they are both just gay) vibe going on by being two roommates/childhood friends in college together. The initial smut was to my tastes and I really enjoyed it. Then immediately after, when Mason gets sick quickly, my enjoyment of the story immediately took a dive.

Maybe it is because I knew this is supposed to be an introductory story to the omegaverse, but it really didn't work for me overall. The story tried way too hard to give logic to omegaverse, but it still applied to logic of the real world to the story. I think omegaverse/ABO stories are written best in two ways, with shifters or with ABO dynamics being common or rising knowledge. Otherwise, if you try to fit it in our reality, you keep having to explain things and the concept just sounds worse.

For instance, omegas in this verse are essentially females. They're intersex so they can have various characteristics of men and women, but when you get down to it, they're females. This definitely opens the door to the transgender/intersex conversation that is often overlooked in MM/ABO stories, but I don't think this story does it that well.

I'm all for being politically correct, but this story really hits you hard with it. Mason has a lot of potential to go through an identity crisis due to his intersex reveal, and he does have a few moments of confusion, but for the most part, everyone around him immediately reassures him that he can still be a man and that whatever he thinks and feels is fine. There was no room for conflict to grow.

Most of the story has issues like this. You'll get hints where conflict could arise, such as when Conrad's family expects him to be a typical alpha-straight-male and Conrad comes out as gay. Or several times Mason's family insurance is mentioned and that problem never pops up. Or how Mason and Conrad get pregnant in college with no money, job, or housing, and all that is taken care of as well. So many things were there to make the story more interesting, but it was glossed over and made plain.

I'm not even going to get into how Mason's pregnancy was needlessly burdensome. Maybe that is someone's fetish, I thought it was mine, it just didn't vibe with me.

"Mason basically knew everything about me. All except that I was in love with him." ~Conrad

This is the book that every starting paranormal MPREG reader should have. I would recommend it to anyone exploring the alpha/omega-verse MPREG fantasy plane.

Conrad was an alpha who had met and became friends with omega Mason as young boys. Unlike Conrad, Mason seemed to have delayed growth, but that never stopped their friendship, only made them closer.

Now in college, Conrad felt a change within himself and felt the pull toward his best friend. This book dealt with body image, acceptance, fear and excitement and a whole realm of emotions. Discovering each other was like finding a new toy, but what followed threw the college students for a loop, especially when they finally made the decision to find out exactly what was wrong with Mason.

"First I find out I'm intersex. Then I find out I'm pregnant. Then I found out I have some freak wolf gene, and now, I find out I am having more than one baby. It just keeps piling up!" Poor Mason, the hits keeps coming, but he takes it like a trooper and boy am I glad I was given the opportunity to read this book. Can't wait to see how book two turns out.

I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author through GBP.

This is my first book by Sarah Havan and I mostly enjoyed it. It's a different take on the alpha/omega story and quite interesting. It took me a couple of chapters to get into and understand the story but I love the character and relationship development.
Conrad is slowly accepting the way he feels towards his best friend but once the flirting and touching begins, there's no denying it.
Mason has loved his best friend forever and though he's notified lingering touches and longer looks, he doesn't believe enough to say anything. He has enough to worry about with the slow/no changes to his body.
Once things progress between the two, it becomes apparent that Mason's body is far more different than either of them could imagine. Enter discussions on intersex, alphas and omegas and pregnant men!
Once thing's heat up between the two, we are with them throughout the whole pregnancy, their developing relationship and how life will be so different in their future.
Conrad is lovely, caring for and doting on Mason through everything. In the beginning it takes a few attempts before he can even talk about feelings but he makes himself more than clear physically. One point, until it gets explained later on you don't understand why things are so rough during Mason's best and I wasn't expecting how rough it actually read. Maybe a thing to be noted. Conrad is apologetic and soothing but Mason does explain that he wanted it.
Mason takes everything as expected - shock, denial, anger. He feels approachable, lovable and real in the way it takes him time to think through and accept things.
The world building is done well and we have several secondary characters providing friendship, support of drama. I'd be interested in reading the story of the omega who comes in towards the end of the book.
I'd recommend giving this story and author a try.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Alors I have learned that I should read my next Sarah Havan book when, and only when, I am in the mood for the main focus of the book to be pregnancy.

This had some great tropes and potential development but for me it got overshadowed with just how much page time was given to the pregnancy and medical stuff. A lot of their relationship happened prior to the book as they were best friends. It did still have a lot of stuff I really loved and I can recommend if obliviot best friends to lovers and a high focus on coming-of-age, coming into your true self and pregnancy are things you enjoy!

This book surprised me. While the writing is rough, with some grammatical errors and very hard transitions (and yes, I'm aware this is an ARC, so hopefully those issues were resolved before the book went live), the storyline actually captivated me.

It’s important to note that I adore the omegaverse genre and generally avoid young adult.

Overall, this story is so clearly about discovery and it was quite interesting reading omegaverse through that lens. The MCs, Conrad and Mason, are treated with sensitivity, innocence and optimism as they learn about themselves and take on new and unexpected roles in their lives, including:
1 - Conrad discovering his own sexuality and preferences.
2 - Mason discovering his gender.
3 - Them learning about the existence of the omegaverse - fated mates, alphas/omegas, omega pregnancy, etc. - and how they’re a part of it.
4 - Most importantly, the evolution of friends to lovers.

I was left wishing some aspects of the story were better explored, for example, Conrad’s lingerie kink or the nature of the Pine Woods “pack” (I put that in quotes because it’s not entirely clear what’s going on there, in my opinion). Also, it seemed odd after all of Conrad’s consternation about how his parents were going to react, that it was a non-event… I mean, I remember as a young adult making a mountain out of a parental mole-hill, but still, it seemed a bit too easy and glossed over. Just saying…

Honestly, I’ll definitely keep reading this series to get to know the MCs better and enjoy this different perspective of omegaverse.

Wow

Beautifully written! I love the fact that the story follows all the way through the pregnancy. Usually the mpreg books I've read has shortened those timelines so you get like no pregnancy time - the build up of emotions, varying thoughts on body changes and what you're going to do, birthing plan, etc. It was refreshing to have that in a book.
I think the only thing I may have wanted was more of just Mason and Conrad in the beginning. Like, more opportunities to see their connection as friends who were both hiding deeper feelings before jumping into those feelings. What kind of things did they do together before the sex-a-thon? Surely they did things outside of the dorm room! It may have been cool to have had a bit of Conrad playing ball, too, and seeing the difference of him playing ball versus not being able to play anymore. How Mason still loved him and stayed by him. But that's just where my mind goes, as I wanted to really feel that connection between them before friendship turned into relationship. Like I said, very well written and thought out story line. I loved all the characters. I also hope to maybe see Thomas again in a future book and know he's okay.

(4 stars)

This is the perfect book for anyone that is curious about how a mpreg book would "work". When Mason and his best friend, Conrad, take their relationship to the next level, it was a first for both of them. After having danced around their mutual attraction and doubting whether they should or shouldn't, the next couple weeks are a bit of a frenzy of enjoying this new aspect of their relationship. When Mason starts to show signs of being ill, Conrad makes sure that he takes care of him. When Mason can't seem to kick the tiredness that is plaguing him, not to mention the breasts that have started to grow. Conrad decides enough, its time for them to seek a professional to see what the issue is. What they find out, was something that they never thought they would ever hear, Mason is pregnant!

This was a really good story, that kept me entertained, and wanting to know just how everything works out. The sexy times are super steamy and with the right amount of drama, I give this 4 stars.

I really enjoyed this story and I love how different it is from other Mpreg books I have read. It is a very unique take on this genre and I think the author did a great job explaining the origins of alphas and omegas in this world. The relationship between Conrad and Mason is rock solid even when they are continually dealing with mind boggling information and the changes Masons' body is going through. Conrad is very endearing as he supports Mason and never lets him feel bad about his new reality. There are so many changes happening in their lives that they need all of the help, information and support they can get from the people of Pine Wood Falls. Mason needs the reassurance of knowing that there are people just like him facing the same challenges. I love the ending and the secondary characters are great. The only thing about this story that bothered me is the lack of editing but as I had a review copy this may have been rectified by the time it was published. I look forward to reading the next book in this entertaining new series.

This is the first book in The Pine Wood Falls Series. An interesting book the writing was great. This book was different than I thought it would be. It had some interesting takes on an Alpha/Omega development. There were some great and unique ideas. Some were developed and realized other were a bit confusing because they needed more detail to round them out. This book could’ve been 5 stars it just needed to be filled out with a little more detail to complete some of the ideas. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters wonderful. The characters were developed and thought out. Conrad Mayfair and Mason Donnelly are the MC’s of this book and fated mates. There was humor, school, friends and family, doctors, tests, twins, changes and surprises and so much more in this book. I can recommend as a good read. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Beautiful story

It's Mpreg but different. It didn't feel like your typical hifter/non shifter pregnancy. It felt like this could be for anybtrans man whonmay still keepntheir internal parts and still feel mascalin. It's set in a world were alpha/omega is rare. The couple are best friends turned lovers and then discover they are pregnant. The thing that turned this into a beautiful story is how the Omega was written. They discover he is intersex and over the course of the pregnancy comes to term with his body (I say his It's how he identifies) its how the author wrote this story. Seriously I cried at the love you could feel off the pages. Their story is about coming out to a family who has a moment of uncertainty and the acceptance though. It's just beautiful. (Sorry it's a book I've not seen talk about Trans and men having babies in such a sweet way) there is talk about non shifter wolf genes.

What is Pine Wood Falls? A reasonably priced Utopia, a Peyton Place or something deceptively benign with a shadowy purpose? World-building is usually for fantasy books but in this contemporary MPreg, the author has created an idyllic setting for expecting Omegas and their dominating Alphas. Our first couple in the series is Mason and Conrad, best friends and college roommates who suddenly can't get enough of each other. The author's explanation for their primal urges is logical and endearing and their baby preparations are realistic and sweet. While the first quarter of the book can make a reader squirm, it's actually quite meaningful. I encourage everyone to stick with it. The rest is imaginative and adorable. Just hope everyone remains safe in the little supportive community.

"Expecting" received TWO AND A HALF stars.

An interesting take on omegas/MPREG. I loved the intersex concept. The middle was way too long, though, and should’ve been condensed. Overall, a good story. Conrad was so sweet to Mason.

The novel gained *stars* for these items:

* gained for: "The book caught my interest in the first five pages."

* gained for: "I thought about the book when I was forced to set it down and re-enter society."

* gained for: "There were no info dumps, poor writing, or copy edit mistakes that jerked me out of the story."

The novel failed to gain stars for this item:

NO STAR gained for: "I was sad when the book ended. I wanted more!"

NO STAR gained for: "That's it. I'm hooked on this author. I will automatically try anything she/he/they writes."

This story was very original. There were alphas and omegas, and mpreg, but it was all handled differently than I've seen before. Conrad and Mason are great young characters, and I hope to see more of them as they grow older in future stories. I felt sorry for Mason as he tried to come to terms with his new reality, and I loved the way Conrad hovered over Mason and wanted to try to take care of everything for him. Watching both guys adjust was really sweet. I was impressed with the start of this new series.

Mason and Conrad have been best friends forever and both secretly in love with each other all this time.Mason started feeling changes in his body but couldn’t explain and Conrad started having feeling for Mason that he could not control. Neither could understand all these strange feeling because their families never explained to them that Conrad was an Alpha and Mason was an omega and they were fated mates. Yep, you guessed it love wins out! Sometimes funny sometimes serious but always a fast page turner. A serious must for a Sarah Havan story.

What a shocking event....

It was beyond shocking for Mason, finding out that he's pregnant and not sick with some strange virus. And, finding out you are an omega and your best friend is an alpha. That's what happened to Mason and Conrad, two best friends, who slept together for the first time. They created something really amazing between them, two very beautiful ones. I'm looking forward to reading more about them in the next book, and the birthing method was amazing.

Loved the covered an entire pregnancy and birth vs authors who just skim over it. Truly beautiful and the comradity of the entire pine wood falls ground was amazing and truly sweet to read.
Conrad and Mason have been best friends forever than one day without knowing Mason goes into a rut and with the help of Conrad he gets through it. What they don't know Conrad is an Alpha and Mason is Omega therefore can get pregnant!
This book goes through their entire journey from contraception to birth.
