Larry, a monster, wants to shake his present to find out what's inside. He tries different ways to figure out what's inside, but when he does, he apologizes to Santa. Santa is fine with that because a present is always something you should open. A creative, interactive & good holiday read for preschoolers!
A purple creature named Larry wants the reader to help open their present, but what could it be?! Readers will enjoy the interactive aspect of the book as they shake, stretch, and squish it. However, the ending is abrupt and could be confusing for some readers.
For: readers looking for an interactive Christmas book.
Possible red flags: being sneaky/mischievous and opening presents early.
Cute but not quite the best interactive picture book I've read. It was a little confusing, for instance, when it said to "shrink the present" with your fingers. I think maybe it meant pinch like you would on a touchscreen, but the kids I was reading to didn't know what to do, I guess because they're not on iPads all day?? It's also just kind of a lot of shake this way and that way. The ending also fell a bit flat for the kids I was reading to.
So this monster opens the present and then gets sucked through it? I can’t quite tell what’s happening there but he comes flying out of the box. And Santa tells him he can open that present anytime because the book is the present? Are some kids opening their presents ahead of Christmas looking for this book so they can see Santa? I think the book is too confusing.
Cute, but my son felt bad about opening the present. He knows he isn't supposed to, so he refused to do some of the actions. I think he became okay with it when Santa revealed it wasn't the real gift.

Great interactive book. Got my son to knock on the book/present and say the word knock for the first time. He’s 14 months and now knocks on every surface of our home saying knock knock!
This was a cute interactive little book! I enjoyed shaking the present and pulling on the ribbon. We were surprised by Santa's appearance at the end, though. Deducting a star for not being evergreen.
