Astrea Taylor is the author of Intuitive Witchcraft, Inspiring Creativity Through Magick, Air Magic, Modern Witchcraft with the Greek Gods, and The Magic Bell.
She's an eclectic/intuitive pagan witch whose life goals include empowering other witches and encouraging them to use intuition in their witchcraft.
She has also published passages in Mastering Magick, The Witches' Companion, Witchology, Green Egg, The Witches' Calendar, The Witch's Almanac, and several other periodicals and books. Sometimes, she blogs as Starlight Witch on Patheos.
When she's not co-leading the Aurora Fire dance group, she presents workshops and rituals at festivals across the country.
While I liked some of the ideas in this book, overall I couldn't connect to the authors voice. I was also very uncomfortable with their suggestion that mentally ill people have lost a part of their soul, especially as an autistic person, as the idea that we don't have souls is something that has been said about us by both medical professionals and family members. I don't think the author meant to be condescending or insulting when they made this claim, but I do think it was very irresponsible, and hurtful to people with chronic mental illness and/or disabilities.
This is one of those books that really does grow with the reader and encourages you to learn and evolve over time. If you are looking for a quick, snappy read that's going to go over a myriad topics in a matter of a page or two, then this isn't the book for you. It's much richer and more valuable than that.
This is the kind of book I would recommend specifically for beginners who have decided that they are serious about witchcraft and are ready to commit to taking it to the next level. Each section and chapter are full of exercises that help young witches navigate the many facets of tuning into your own personal power and developing the skills required to wield it. I applaud Taylor for going the extra mile, as her writing shows she genuinely cares about helping beginners fully involve themselves in witchcraft, not just get a taste of it. Some books feel as though they are written purely to capitalize on and take advantage of witchcraft growing as a trendy topic...Intuitive Witchcraft is not one of them.
Along the same vein, I would also recommend this book to intermediate and "advanced" witches as well. From the metaphors Taylor uses to the exercises she provides, this book is so dense and has plenty to offer just about anyone's craft.
I will say, if you plan on picking this up (and I think you should), I do recommend you take it slowly. This is not meant to be devoured in one sitting. As you go about using the book, think of it more as a textbook or workbook and give yourself the space and time to fully absorb and implement each section carefully. As in, do not skip exercises so you can keep reading. Do the exercises first. I've been a practicing witch for over a decade, and I read this book over the span of 3 months so that I could fully enjoy it. Every time I put it down, I felt I was walking away with a new perspective of how to observe my own craft, which I think is valuable for us to do, no matter how experienced you are.
The only complaint I can think of off the top of my head is more humorous than serious, which is that I just don't like the title...? For some reason, "Intuitive Witchcraft" feels like it misrepresents the book, possibly for being vague or not interesting enough? I really have no idea why I don't like it. But that's such a silly and trivial thing that I can't even fully explain or put my finger on, so it's more of a side note than an actual detraction from the book!
Overall, despite actively trying to find things to complain about with this book, I simply couldn't find a reason to rate it less than 5 stars. Highly recommend for those with serious intentions!
Not just another "101" witchcraft book, Intuitive Withcraft offers wonderful perspectives for the seasoned practitioner and the beginner alike. Self-guidance and energy sensing are an important aspect to becoming more than a novice in your own or even a chosen tradition, fostering a deeper involvement in one's Craft. Not only do I highly recommend Intuitive Witchcraft...I insist on it!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I can tell it's one I'm going to be returning to again, as it has many exercises & the wisdom contained within is good reference material that will service me well as I continue to hone my own practice.
DNF at 40%. I'm pagan and I don't identify as a witch, nor do I call paganism witchcraft. However, I have noticed some authors use the terms while referring to paganism/pagans, so that didn't stop me from picking up this book. Maybe it should have. The focus on intuition appealed to me and was the reason I chose this book to begin with. The book was quite superficial, too much so. For instance, the first chapter is about letting go of all conditioning. Just like that. Just picture it and let it go. Chapter 2: well done, we let it all go, moving on. No how, no other exercises than the simplest ones (picturing and letting go). That's not how conditioning works. The book stayed overly simple like that. Besides that, the more I read, the more 'Neo' it felt. Wiccan, I'm guessing? It wasn't mentioned, so I might be wrong, since I'm not wiccan myself. Great if you are, everyone is different, but it didn't appeal to me. I think I'm not the type of person this book is meant for, and it might appeal to some people.
Astrea Taylor is a prolific writer, Intuitive Witchcraft is very intriguing and the exercises are just what you need to help with your intuition. She writes with such ease and grace. The words flow deep within your soul and you never want to put this book down. I read it pretty much straight through and it will be my go to book from this point on. Grab a copy, you won’t be disappointed.
This is both a beginner and an advanced book??? I’m not sure how Astrea did it but she made the most accessible advanced magical living book I’ve read in a while.
It’s a book on using witchcraft every moment of every day to make your life better. Too many people think that witchcraft can be put in a box and only done at festivals or special occasions. But that is just not the best way to live, my friends. Even if you are in the broom closet, you can use your magic every moment if you are attuned to intuitive witchcraft.
Astrea illustrates this beautifully. Intuitive witchcraft is a way of life. It’s not a religion or a set path with initiated traditions. It is a layer to be added to anyone’s craft that can help anyone be a better witch. As someone who’s been practicing for many many years, I enjoyed the beginning, but around chapters 9 and 10 I was really in the zone.
Astrea has an incredible way of explaining and inviting the principles of intuitive witchcraft to come home to roost. I found myself able to recall the exercises she described after trying them only once or twice, becuase they’re so intuitively perfect your energy remembers them with perfect clarity.
Some of the things that she taught will become my regular practices, such as her tricks for remembering what magic is best for which moon phase, and how to tell the phases just by looking at the moon. And I also really loved her second sight recall exercises. I used them this morning to great success!
Intuitive witchcraft also features several other authors and magical practitioners sharing their approaches to using intuitive witchcraft. I can’t recommend this book enough. It’s a weighty tome that could take years to fully comprehend, but I recommend taking the dive. And I promise you, beginners, that you will feel right at home from page one. Astrea’s writing is very open and inviting, and she introduces the advanced practices towards the end of the book so that new witches won’t be intimidated. By the time you get to the end of the book with the more advanced practices, you will be ready, and if not, all the better because you get to go back and indulge in those early exercises again! If you’re walking the path of an intuitive witch, all will come in time.
This is a great book for the person looking to start living magically every moment of the day. And that might sound exhausting but I promise you it’s the opposite: complete liberation, and a reminder of my power in every breath? Yes, please!
Intuitive Witchcraft by Astrea Taylor gave me so much inspiration and hope. When I started looking into witchcraft, I found a vast array of topics I was interested in. I also found a lot of people stuck to one "type" or mastered specific things. I love that this book explains that intuitive witchcraft is about following your intuition, and that might mean bouncing over and over.
I think this book is very well written. Sometimes helpful books can be kind of dry, but Astrea Taylor writes almost poetically at times, and it really kept me invested.
This is a book I will be reading again, as I think it has a lot of useful information that will help me as I grow.
What an amazing resource! As a more experienced practitioner, I found this book to be very illuminating! I’m going to be referencing this book often into the future. Well done!
I can’t put this book down! I’m on chapter 10 and I feel that a novice or well versed witch would get a lot out of this book. I will definitely be revisiting these pages time and time again. I highly recommend Intuitive Witchcraft to anyone wanting to explore or refine their craft.
Why? Simply because there are a lot of witchy books who are repackaging the same content, sternly forcing you on a path that is neither here, nor there, nor organic. This book is a guide on how to develop your intuition with practical exercises and with the aim in mind to guide you towards your own practice!
I would make the argument that the Author could've fleshed out a bit more, or at least given more contextual / research clues or other ways to back you up if you're doubtful. That being said, it is still a good book but a book i'd recommend to the more early beginning stages to intermediaries. It is chalk full with personal experiences from the Author and these are the books that make out the best guides in my opinion.
I really love the chapter-based bibliography / further reading list, so you're pointed into a direction in which you can gether further resources.
Its a thick book and i got it for a very low price of about 16€ (19€ is the median price on amazon) and honestly, even priced at more it would be a steal - but only if you're willing to trust yourself.
I absolutely love this book! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for some guidance on how to pay attention to your inner voice in everyday life and how important it is to do so. It came into my life at the perfect time and reminded me of changes I need to make in my life. Definitely a five star!
Intuitive Witchcraft by Astrea Taylor is EVERYTHING I was hoping for!!! The practices are accessible and well-written. I am absolutely in love with the affirming and uplifting tone!
As a mostly non-traditional witch who relies on intuition and energetic work... I've often felt like an outsider even among witches. With this awesome book, I feel seen!!! I'm not alone is this intuitive exploration of magick and mystery!
I can honestly say that this is going to become one of my "dog-eared" many times used "go-to" books. There is so much encouragement here for not only the beginner at the Craft, but for long time practicing Witches. Taylor has a no nonsense approach to study and encourages you to use your own gut instincts to hone your skills. Even after more than 50 years of being Witch, I found exercises and helpful guides to approaching my ritual and routine. I found encouragement to try new things that I had not tried before. I found validation of my eclectic style. I've long been a solitary, in part because of this style. How wonderful to find a book that is both helpful to less experienced people and to those of us who have discovered this way of practice after long years of angst that we could not have all the tools reccomended or the exact "script" of ritual. I feel freer somehow and feel that I have found a kindred spirit. Buy it! Read it! You will come back to it again and again.
Intuitive Witchcraft is like a breath of fresh air in a crowded room of spellbooks and manuals. From the first page, Astrea Taylor’s writing feels like a gentle, guiding hand that’s both encouraging and empowering. What sets this book apart is its focus on trusting and strengthening your own inner voice, rather than prescribing rigid rules or methods. Taylor makes it clear that witchcraft isn’t just about rituals or ingredients—it’s about listening to your intuition and using that guidance to shape a magical practice that’s truly authentic to you.
The exercises in this book are what made it such a standout for me. They aren’t just simple meditations or standard spells—they’re invitations to really experience magic in your own unique way. Taylor’s approach feels more like a collaboration than a lesson; she wants you to experiment, question, and find what resonates. Her sections on energy work are especially powerful, helping you learn to sense and manipulate energy in a way that feels organic. I tried several of the exercises she suggests, and I was blown away by how tangible the results were, even when working with subtle, everyday magic. You get a sense that she’s been through these same processes herself and is speaking from a place of real understanding.
The emphasis on shadow work and facing the parts of yourself you’d rather ignore is handled with a lot of grace and sensitivity. Rather than pushing you to “fix” or banish these aspects, Taylor encourages a dialogue—an acceptance and integration that feels healing rather than harsh. This, paired with her guidance on connecting with deities and spirits, helps create a holistic system of magic that blends the inner and outer worlds beautifully. And yet, nothing feels overwhelming; she’s structured the book in a way that’s easy to follow and doesn’t require you to have all the answers right away.
Another thing I loved is how inclusive Taylor is in her approach. She acknowledges that everyone’s path is going to look a little different and goes out of her way to support that. Instead of insisting on a specific pantheon or tradition, she encourages readers to explore their own beliefs and comfort levels. There’s a genuine sense of respect for personal autonomy and a celebration of diversity in magical practices that’s refreshing and much-needed.
It’s not just Taylor’s voice that guides the reader, either. The insights and contributions from other writers and practitioners are like little gems sprinkled throughout the text, adding even more depth and perspective. They give the sense that you’re being welcomed into a larger community of witches and magicians, each offering their own wisdom on how to walk this intuitive path.
By the time I finished, I felt like I’d been given permission to trust myself more deeply and approach my practice with a renewed sense of excitement. Intuitive Witchcraft isn’t just a book you read—it’s a book you experience. Taylor’s warmth and wisdom make it one of those rare guides that you’ll want to come back to again and again as your craft evolves. For anyone looking to go beyond the basics and craft a practice that’s aligned with who they truly are, this book is an absolute treasure. Highly recommend for witches of any level who are ready to follow their own magical rhythm.
I recently read ‘Intuitive Witchcraft’ by Astrea Taylor, a book on how to use intuition to elevate your craft. As an eclectic and highly intuitive Witch this tickled my fancy so I jumped straight into reading.
This is an excellent book for Witches who are not drawn to any particular tradition or path. At first, this book reads like a beginner 101 book for Witchcraft, but don’t let that turn you from its pages because the correspondance lists are gone by chapter 4, and if you skip past these early chapters you will miss some wonderful personal stories that Astrea has included which helps to place her view and teachings into perspective.
‘Intuitive Witchcraft’ includes many excellent exercises and rituals and the book itself is set up in a very interesting manner. Each chapter has a theme, and each theme includes many subsections which makes it super easy to refer back and find the information that you’re looking for. For example the chapter “Working with the Gods” has 14 subheadings ranging from a paragraph, to a couple of pages long for each one. They range from “What are the Gods” to “How the Gods Communicate” and so much more. It makes this book excellent as a reference book although a tad more difficult to get into a flow when reading. I recommend reading a few sections at a time and then sleep on it to aid in absorbing the information.
This is a deceptively large book. Just when I thought Astrea had touched on all aspects of the craft, there comes another chapter, and another! Filled with other ideas and suggestions that I hadn’t expected. Fair warning, this is not a quick, light read. It’s not too heavy, but it will take some time to digest and get through.
I really loved how she used the perspectives of other Witches throughout the book. Termed ‘Intuitive Insights’ she invites the voice of others to chime in with a page or two on the topic at hand which was a delightful add on in my opinion. Another bonus was the “Further Reading” list at the end of each chapter. Marvellous!
Overall I really liked this book. I agreed with all of the concepts, ideas and teachings that Astrea put forth and felt inspired by what she had to say. A great reference style book to have on the shelf.
Intuitive witchcraft is a must have for anyone starting out on their magickal path. Rather than focusing on complex rituals, it encourages the reader to understand their own inner magick in order to better use it externally.
The book itself is split into two parts. Part one contains the basics, it gives a step by step guide on how to hone in on your intuition and even has exercises to help strengthen your ability to work intuitively.
If you're an advanced practitioner, you may wish to skip part one, I didn’t and I’m glad, because it felt like I was revisiting an old friend. Every word brought me back to the animated state I felt when I first started my practice.
Part two of this book contains the meat of the book. It gives tips on how you can use energy to channel your will into reality and it uses the lessons taught in part one to help amplify your intuition and use it effectively.
This book is filled with sparks of wisdom and tips on how to nurture and better listen to your inner voice. It encourages the reader to find their own path instead of being bound by external influences, and intelligently breaks down how you can manipulate your energy and use it to create change in conformity with your will.
What really got my attention throughout this book was Astreas style of writing. She skilfully presented complex magickal theories and broke them down in a manner that was easy to digest and analyse.
Her writing style is such that I predict in years to come her books will have a cult following in much the same way Dion Fortune has today.
This is a book for beginners, but it ģives glimpses into the fountain of knowledge contained within the brilliant mind of Astrea. I hope in the future she writes books for the seasoned practitioner!
I recommend this book to anyone who is new to the path, anyone looking to reconnect with their own personal magick and anyone who needs a boost of empowerment.
Honestly, this is one of the best books about witchcraft I have ever read. It has something for everybody, from non-witches interested in "witchy" things, to beginner witches, to those who have been practicing for a long time. There are certain chapters and pieces of information that I would want to share with some of my non-witch friends and family. I'm somewhere between beginner and expert based on my current place of knowledge, and this book has still taught me a lot, given me much insight, and remained interesting throughout the whole thing. I love the intuitive and empathetic spin that Astrea Taylor puts into her words of wisdom, as well as the little anecdotes from her own life she includes without being too self-centered in her storytelling. This is something I simultaneously want to keep and treasure and read over and over again, yet share with everyone I know.
I don’t identify myself as a witch at all. I just find the subject fascinating so I’ve been reading lots of different books on the topic. Most books turn me off immediately as I can’t resonate with spells and rituals. No offense to those that do. I just find some of the witchy practices much like religious practices and I personally don’t want to exchange one imaginary friend for another. With that in mind, I am very open to spiritual practices pertaining to energy work. I know that sounds like a contradiction but in my mind it isn’t. So I found many ideas in this book more appealing to me than other books I’ve read…perhaps because she references our chakras and personal energies often.
I decided to purchase a copy so that I can re-read and chew on some of the concepts she highlights.
I Love This Book It’s got everything a newer witch and even more seasoned witch such as myself who’s been in practice for 25 years. This book touches on a bit of everything Witchy - Life. It’s well written and even has practice templates for you to reference and, copy into your Books of Secrets. I have already recorded a lot of great information and knowledgeable new ways to Improve my own practice. I Very, highly recommend “Intuitive Witchcraft” to everyone who might be looking to improve their craft or, for anyone who may feel called to learn more about our way of life. . Dear, Astrea Taylor, I look forward to reading more of your works. Sending blessings and love Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the world.
For a few months, part of my morning ritual was picking up this book and reading ten pages or so. It was a lovely way to start my day. Astrea Taylor is an excellent guide; I really enjoyed the guided exercises she provided to go along with the content. Some of it, naturally, I skimmed over--no book that concerns any sort of eclectic witchcraft is going to be ~perfectly~ suited to a reader--but the other 95% I found illuminating. I'd say it's more suitable for beginner practitioners or anyone who's new to the idea of using intuition to guide your life, but I'm sure even experienced practitioners would learn something new.
Alt title: "How to use your craft to elevate your intuition." Both work.
This is the book that I wish I found when I first started my journey all those years ago. 🔮
Astrea takes you on a journey through a variety of different topics relating to practicing Witchcraft. Most importantly though, she offers them not as instruction of "this is how you should do it" , but rather provides you with the knowledge needed to explore what works for you.
Intuitive Witchcraft puts you in the driver's seat of your own practice. Allowing you to explore and pivot , discerning what is and isn't for you at this time. This book gives you a framework for infinite expansion within your practice from the beginning to end.
A truly empowering book for all skill levels. I can't recommend this book enough for any and all witches ✨️.
This is a well thought out book with a lovely writing style. There are some really excellent ideas and points. Some of it was a little more basic than I had expected. But overall, this is an excellent book. The author forces the reader to look within and delve into their own heart and soul. I believe that this is a book that people can go back to every few years and gain something new from it each time. I would encourage the author to change the perspective that those of us with psychological issues and / or intellectual disabilities have lost, or are missing, parts of our souls. That is a dangerous and harmful viewpoint. Many in my pagan book club stopped reading the book at that point.
The author talks about expanding beyond the binary and accepting contradictions, but enforces a very binary idea of “good” and “bad” throughout the book. Including assigning “healthy” vs “unhealthy,” non-nuanced labels to certain foods and activities. Sure, we should shoot for all our nutritive needs, but that moral relationship seems to have come from the things that the author is trying to disband and take a “radical” approach to. Additionally, takes a very black & white view on relationships that feels very immature, where we should eliminate all “toxic” people from our lives without any sort of nuance … Contradictions that I don’t think the author may have intended and to me, take away credibility.
I'm not well in touch with my intuition. I've learned to live firmly with the world I can interact with. But I'm aware there are senses beyond the five physical senses, and I'm seeking to build those to greater explore my world and my spirituality. I've read several beginner's books in witchcraft, so I found a lot of the content in this book redundant to my preexisting knowledge. However, the approach Taylor describes, while a little too untethered for me, gives me a direction to move in. If someone were to ask me for a place to begin in their studies of witchcraft, I'd recommend this book in my top 3. I'm grateful for her further reading lists and for the very modern, self-aware, and culturally sensitive approach to spirituality.
As a note, I listened to the audiobook on Audible and I did not care for the narrator. She sounds like an insincere auntie. I'll be returning the audiobook and looking into getting a physical copy of the book, perhaps secondhand.
Intuitive Witchcraft speaks to the soul of intuition, energy work, and esoteric practice while respecting and encouraging each person's unique beliefs and craft. If you have found yourself as a sensitive individual, attuned to the humming of the world, this book will understand you.
There are things in this book I think about almost on a daily basis and has influenced my way of thinking and seeing the world and myself, I honestly think it is one the best additions to my witchcraft library.
I always appreciate hearing someone else's take on info I've heard before. Because multiple perspectives are a good thing. Always. Because there's always something new to learn, even after 20+ years of reading Witchy Books.
That said, lots of review here. But lots of new ideas as well. And I liked how the author delved into the psychology of energy work (). Very practical and common sense-y.
I finally finished this book. The book was interesting. Of course the first half of the book starts building a foundation. There are many exercise in the book to help with your intuition. In the second path chapters are working with the Gods, spirit craft, working with other people energies, looking into the void, living in the flow, witchcraft community and ever lasting practice. Though I liked it I would borrow it or purchased it second hand.
The one thing that I was disappointed was the author mentioned that people with mental illnesses are missing a part of their soul. Maybe I being overly sensitive but that made me cry to read that.
This is such an amazing book 😍 I got it as a gift and I am definitely not disappointed 😍 I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in the power of Intuition, energy and witchcraft 😊 whether you are beginner or advanced you will love it! I was so not expecting this amazing gift, I am sure your loved ones will love it!
