Follow your heart, and reach for the stars.

With all his friends’ dreams suddenly simultaneously coming true, Ember Quinn is forced to realize he may not be as content with his life as he once believed.

In a desperate attempt to fill the void in his heart, he answers a spectre’s vague plea for help, which leads him to the magical world of the Aurora Circus.

He definitely isn’t going to the Circus because of a childish dream long buried, nor for the sexy, intimidating circus performer known as Pyro, who has just so happened to sweep him off his feet with a literal breath of fire.

When the spectre’s true intentions are revealed, Ember is forced to make a choice: go back to his life of simple uniformity, or become the person he knows he is, but has always been afraid to be.

THE AURORA CIRCUS is a New Adult standalone M/M fantasy romance about following your heart, fulfilling your dreams, and fighting for what you believe in.

This book is a newly titled second edition of THE BUTTERFLY FINALE by Viano Oniomoh. It contains brand new and improved content.

3.5 stars: 3 stars for the story and 0.5 stars for the beautiful cover.
Congrats to the author for a solid first book.

The most important thing that you will notice while reading this story is the excitement and love the author felt while writing this story. You can practically feel it flowing out of the pages and it's a gift to be part of this and share the author's joy.

This story about Ember and Pyro is set in a kind of other world with different kingdoms, some poor without electricity and transportation, some rich and modern. In this world live magic users, the Medeises, and normal humans, the Cotidians. Some years back the Medeises won the Freedom Fight that allowed them to no longer be outcasted, hunted, and as magic users marked beings without any rights but live as recognized citizens of the kingdoms.

Ember is working as a security guard for the train when one day he watches a street performance to promote the upcoming show of the Aurora Circus and he's instantly enamored with Pyro, a fire Medeis. Ember can't forget about him and the brief but fiery kiss they shared during the street performance, and when his sister-in-law presents him with the opportunity to watch the show, he's instantly game.

The description of the campsite and the performance is a thing of beauty. I felt like I was sitting in that invisible tent, watching rapturously as the Medeises show their different acts. We see Ermers, air mermaid spirits with an ethereal beauty, strongmen with telekinetic gifts, endangered animals, and of course Pyro, who seems to be the star of the performance, judging by the cheers and screams from the crowd.

In a bout of craziness, or insanity, Ember realizes he isn't happy anymore with the way his life is going and decides to join the circus. Of course, a certain fire user named Pyro plays a big part in this decision. All signs of nerves and doubt vanish when Ember arrives at the campsite and realizes Pyro hasn't been able to forget him either and is happy that he found his way to the circus.

The worldbuilding in this story is great and even I, without much imagination of my own, was able to visualize the fantasy world the author created. The romance between Ember and Pyro is very much insta-love, which I have to admit isn't my favorite trope. I was hoping for some kind of magical reason for these two to feel this instant connection and attraction but it really was love at first sight although they took their time to use the L-word.

Unfortunately, the romance turned out to be the part I liked the least and not only because it's built on insta-love. Somehow it was secondary to the events that take place in this book surrounding the circus and the rift between Cotidians and Medeises that still lingers even after the Freedom Fight.

Considering that both MCs are in their mid-twenties, they were too sweet, too shy, too innocent for my liking. The author herself describes her book as "... a sweet coming of age fantasy romance filled with love and magic, with a heavy dose of cheese and happy feels" and that's exactly what it is. In my opinion, the MCs are too old to properly fit into a coming of age story, though, and that's why I couldn't really relate to their overall behavior. And if you expect hot sex you will be disappointed. Despite these two literally starting fires when they kiss (and they kiss a lot), there was only one fade to black scene. On top of that, the dialog between these two seemed halting and unnatural in places. When they interacted with other characters of the story or talked about something other than their relationship, the conversations were much more mature and fluid.

Overall this is a cute fantasy with sweet MCs that also shows some grim truths about being different and deals with the process of overcoming prejudices and the fight for acceptance and equality.

This book now owns my heart and my soul.

I mean... isn't the BEAUTIFUL COVER enough to make you consider reading this?

Let me tell you some of things I absolutely ADORED:

- The dedication: "To you, For taking a chance on me. And to me, For taking a chance on myself.". !!! When I read that I KNEW! I knew I was going to love this. I mean, how could I not?? It's so touching. I don't think I can explain how I felt when I read this. My heart found it pretty, and that's that.

- There are only POC characters and each and every one of them is a sweetie ✿ They're all so supportive of each other, and only want what's best for their friends turned family.

- What I also really liked was the fact that some of the parents didn't immediatly assign a gender to their child. The child could choose their pronouns and would be adressed with they/them till they made a decision.

- Finally, Ember and Pyro ! Oh you guys! From the moment they met, I couldn't stop smiling! 😩💕 They are SOULMATES, soulmates I say!! 😭 They listen to each other, they trust each other, they listen to what the other is saying. They are both SMITTEN from the moment they meet. No hassle, they knew they wanted each other so they took action and made it happen.

The amount of serotonin my brain released while I read this book is unmatched.

Give this book a chance, I promise you won't regret it! (I found the author through Wattpad. The stories she has written there (all accessible for free!) are LOVELY. The one-shots especially are my favourite :) I just knew this was gonna be great, too!)

First, I loved these characters. We meet Ember at a point in his young life where he’s told himself that he’s got everything he wants: a house, a steady job, and his cat. But when his friends announce their future plans — getting married, traveling the world, becoming a model for a major agency — Ember suddenly realizes that his wants aren’t enough. The spectre’s visions show Ember possibilities for the future, but Ember is too shy and has been shot down too often to readily accept he might actually see his dreams of becoming a dancer come true, or that he might have a relationship with someone who makes him feel like a warm puddle of goo.

Great concept and ideas but the execution was uneven. I enjoyed the supernatural elements and plot however the world building was a bit vague in the beginning. Paranormal concepts and words like medeis and cotidian were introduced without explanation and though I could figure it out based on context, at times I felt a little lost, having to go back and reread parts to make sure I was figuring it out and understanding correctly.

While I liked both Ember and Pyro, the romance kind of felt like an afterthought with Pyro barely figuring into the overarching mystery/plot. Even when the romance element was the focal point, it felt superficial and seemed more based on the insta-attraction than any actual relationship building.

I believe The Aurora Circus is Viano Oniomoh’s first published book and it shows. That said, it was still fun and featured an intriguing mystery and plot and a lovely cast of characters. If you’ve never read Oniomoh before but read m/m, I’d recommend starting with Cupid Calling which I LOVED and believe is a much better representation of her skills as a writer. If you have read and enjoyed her writing before and want more, though the storytelling in The Aurora Circus is somewhat weak and uneven, I still recommend it as an entertaining way to spend your time reading.

Some parts felt meandering, as the plot was a bit thinly stretched- but I liked reading about the main character and seeing how his characterization developed.

A lovely fairytale of a story about finding and being true to yourself. Ember is okay. He has a job, a family that loves him, a cat he loves. But he is dissatisfied, and knows something is missing. He finds out what when he bumps into performers in the middle of the city, but he doesn't know it until another meeting at the traveling circus. Pyro lights up his world. Ember joins the circus and he and Pyro slowly and sweetly fall in love. Ember grounds Pyro, he helps him open up and trust again. I could've done without the big government conspiracy aspect. I wish there'd been more about the...I forget the word used...but about the creatures for lack of a better word. There's some explanation in a exposition dump but I would've like a more personal in depth view.

4.5 STARS

This book has been languishing in my “need to review” pile for a couple of months now. Which was rather unprofessional of me (sorry author), but I found myself with a bit of a problem. When I first read the blurb I thought this was going to be a contemporary book. Contemporary with a bit of magic thrown in maybe, but definitely set in a world I’d recognize. But it’s not. It’s fantasy more than anything else, a bloody brilliant fantasy to be sure, but fantasy and I happen to be long standing enemies.

I see other reviewers discuss things like fantastic world building and I envy them their ability to take that in, in fact I’m in awe of authors who can actually create these exciting other worlds. Unfortunately, my brain refuses to cooperate when it comes to absorbing any kind of fantastical imagery. So I struggled through parts of this story, and that’s totally on me, and not the author’s fault at all. Maybe I should have asked another reviewer to read this book for me, but – this story was just so damn magical that I didn’t want to give it up to someone else. While I may have had trouble imagining the different environments the book travelled through and the places the characters explored, the circus itself, I can’t even describe how absolutely magical (I’ll probably use that word a lot) it all was.

There was such excitement written into many of the scenes. I could almost picture the author bouncing around excitedly yelling – Magic! We need more magic! And kissing! We need lots more kissing! What’s that saying? Like a kid in a candy store? That’s how this book made me feel. Flying mermaids, magical children, invisible circus tents, lands of ice and kisses which start fires (literally). This was like an adult fairytale, with the requisite wickedness tossed in of course, and it just made me feel happy.

The relationship between Pyro and Ember was so sweet I wanted to eat them both up, but in some ways it was secondary to the circus’s story. Don’t expect any sex here, despite the way these two start fires when they’re together. The buzzwords for this story are magical and sweet, and while Pyro and Ember are often connected at the lips, there are no explicit scenes. In fact, I’m not entirely sure what Amazon has tagged this book but I think it could safely be labeled as young adult. The characters are both in their twenties but they come across as much younger.

I don’t think this book will be for everybody, but I think some people will absolutely fall in love with it. I honestly didn’t want it to end and if the author ever decided to write more books set in the same world I would be on board to read them, whether they were m/m, f/f or m/f. And that is probably the greatest compliment I could give.

I'd had my eye on The Aurora Circus for a while and when it was on special for Pride Month I knew I had to buy it. And I'm so glad I did because I enjoyed it immensely!

The Aurora Circus is a fantasy romance novel about a Black bisexual guy who has always wanted to join the circus but never felt like he could. Then one day he meets one of the circus's performers and they have an instant connection. Oh, and a ghost keeps sending him messages about how he needs to join. So what does he do? The boy joins the circus!

I enjoyed every aspect of The Aurora Circus and cannot recommend it enough for lovers of fantasy, romance, magic, circuses, and queer books!

Beautiful! This story is so gentle and lovely. Ember has a normal life, but it's gray and dull. So he decides to run away and join the circus...yeah, there's more going on here, but I don't want to give anything away! A true romance and blooming of life -- excellent debut book!

Enjoyable and quite magical, while also not being too magical all the same? Parts of the whole felt very grand and sweeping and certainly did feel like magic come to life on the page. Other parts not so much.

I didn't mind the romance, though it felt kind of shoehorned and a little too easy & young. I think the plot was interesting and had a solid build up but a lot of the story in general just felt soft? Even when the stakes amped up, to me, it didn't feel like there was any tension. But the softness does work in a lot of the book and I think that's what gives it its charm

This was such a hidden gem, I love the worldbuilding, I loved all the characters, this was such a sweet and uplifting story about finding your path and just giving it all for your dreams. I loved Ember, Pyro is probably one of my favourite LI that I've read recently and possibly forever, he was such a sweetheart. I loved the cast of the circus.
My only complaint is that I wish I could stay in this world more, I want to know more about the history and what comes next

"The supernatural realm was intriguing, and Ember and Pyro were undeniably cute, but I found myself wanting more from their romance. Add in the fact that Ember was so desperate to avoid going back home because it would be 'bad'—which was wild (are people really like that?) and it made for an interesting dynamic. Overall, I enjoyed this story; it was emotional, sweet, and had its fair share of heartfelt moments."

The way this book broke my heart and put it back together again should be a case study for writer education. Like, I couldn't breathe! It's perfectly sweet and hopeful and imaginative and does the job of telling the story of so many people, in so many ways. My chest hurts and I need to start over and read it again.

3.75 so I rounded up 👍🏽 This was such a sweet story 😩🫶🏽. The buildup of the characters relationship was interesting and had me blushing and smiling to myself like a teenage girl 🙈. No spice but still had its charm.

This book was magical! As a lover of the circus I was drawn to the title, and was not disappointed. It’s a beautiful story featuring Ember who run to the circus after receiving visions of himself with the handsome fire performer, Pyro. Along with two children. A story of taking chances, magic, love, and following your dreams. This was a joy to read from being to end.

I find it a bit difficult to review this novel since I on one hand loved it, but there were a couple of details that didn't sit entirely right with me. Hence the four-star rather than five-star rating.

The most important thing I will take with me from this novel is the wonderful joy flowing from the pages. It really was a fairytale, and as such, it worked incredibly well. The worldbuilding is fantastic, as other reviewers have pointed out. I do wish the author will revisit this world for another story although I have to say that the ending might suggest that it's meant to be a stand-alone. There just seems to be so much more in this world that could be investigated, and I'd be ridiculously pleased to join that ride.

The chemistry between the characters is important in a romance story, and Ember and Pyro certainly had sweet chemistry between them. However, it was this sweet part that threw me off a little bit. I'm not looking for raw, brutal characters here, but I got the feeling that these two were a lot younger than stated. I could have bought the storyline and characters hook and sinker if they'd been under 20 years old. They struck me as innocent and cute. I don't know if I have any guy friends aged around 27 who are. All of this might be forgiven, though, because I think it works as a young adult read. It's fantasy with loads of cute romance, and I know there are many of us who enjoy that.

There are no explicit scenes in the novel, which I quite liked about it. I recommend the novel to anyone who wants something cute, cuddly and fantastical to read.

The Butterfly Finale is a sweet and easy read, a nice way to spend a lazy day at home.

It was clearly written with a lot of love and joy and that shone through as the chapters went on. The premise and the world building were interesting and nicely put together.

A couple of minor niggles, the main characters came across younger then they're supposed to be and the dialogue felt a little bit forced, sometimes not hitting the mark. I also felt the action part of the story came and went a little too quickly.

Overall a nice enough read, I'd read books by this author again.

I can honestly say, that I've probably read every book by that amazing author that exists and this one is definitely in the top 5. It starts out sweet and fluffy, which it is for the main part, but then there's a major twist coming that you won't be expecting (don't be afraid, nothing majorly bad, and the HAE is still happening). I can only tell everyone to read it. It's really amazing and sometimes pure comedy gold. And if you wanna read more by her (which you should because her writing is amazing) you can always find her on wattpad or patreon - trust me, it's worth it.

The beginning was kind of slow and boring. It got kind of interesting when the show went on and Ember got a nice surprise, Although, right after it became slow again. The romance between Ember and Pyro made it a little intriguing, but I just could not get into the book. I also wasn't into the magical part of the book. Just wasn't my thing.

Really a sweet 4.5!

Cool and careful world building! Very fresh, magic and tech in a world very different but with elements of the familiar. Very sweet love story, with lovable characters. I would enjoy more of this world, that's for sure!
