** Full Disclosure: I was an ARC reader for, and received an ARC of, “Rescue Mission: A Post-Apocalyptic Fantasy (Islands of Seattle Book 1)” for review purposes. The author requested a review but made no conditions for it. I am writing this review based solely on my enjoyment of this Story in particular, and the author's writing overall.**

This is another page-turning tale from the author set in our own backyard Seattle area!
THIS future Seattle archipelago, however, is populated by major magic, magical bodyguards, dragons, goddesses, deities, spirits, dragons and other mythological creatures of all kinds!

Cady the “loner” is happy in her tiny home outside a small village until one of her neighbors is kidnapped. She did not know her father and her mother was killed in the flu pandemic
She has the magical ability to find people and things. The villagers ask her to help find Sam who got caught sneaking into Zoo. He is being held by the leaders of two main gangs who try to force him to use his ability to see into the future.
Cady is the only one who knows her way around the Zoo, so after assembling her team and arming them, they set off to rescue Sam.
Eventually Sam warns them that Morrigu (the war goddess from the Zoo) and her army are going to attack their village. She can no longer remain at the Zoo due to ANOTHER war!
The village takes what they can and set off to a new location near a lake which had been scouted out..
Most of the townspeople are amazed at how easy life is there!
Almost “magically” so …

I am very much looking forward to the next four books in the series!

This book is like when tuna met cheese and created the tuna melt. Ms. Jordan has created a blend of dystopia and fantasy, the likes of which I've never experienced and can't wait to do so again. Combining magic, deities, and post-apocalyptic conditions in the world, this story is a real page-turner and kept me awake to the wee hours of the morning many times. It was so hard to put down that I actually fell asleep while reading a few times. I felt like a toddler that was fighting sleep. I can't wait to see what happens next!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Magpie writing

Ooh, shiny! I’ll put that in. Ooh, shiny! I’ll put that in, too.

Seattle, post climate change. Except the climate is still rainy. Just higher water levels. And magic. But still railroads.

The world building is all over the place. Characters are poorly defined and have abilities that are either unclear or contradictory. The magic...who knows. There doesn’t seem to be a ‘system’.

All tell and no show.

I will not be finishing this mess.

Fascinating
After the apocalypse the world is in extremes. The good and the bad, the rich and the poor those with magic and those without try to continue on with life. In this new world there are gods and goddesses, dragons and magic and people struggling to live in conditions that are far from good.

Rescue Mission is an exciting read that seems to be coming true. I was drawn by the title as I live in Washington State. Every description I could see in my mind, and it was real. The characters have great depth and as amazing as the action is, it is as if it was happening today and tomorrow. This is a great story for you post-apocalyptic fans. You do finish wanting more.
