Road to Blissville #7

Prescription for Love

Rate this book
What should’ve been an ordinary emergency call turned out to be something extraordinary.

Wanting to distance himself from his toxic parents, Trent Love moved to the quaint town of Blissville to begin a new life. What he finds is blazing chemistry with a hunky fireman who breathes new life into him.

Fearing they’re too different, Tucker attempts to extinguish the spark between them before it can ignite. How could a simple man like him compete with Trent’s life of wealth and privilege? Knowing you shouldn’t want something doesn’t make it go away, and Tucker’s desire for Trent continues to smolder.

Unwilling to accept their relationship is dead on arrival, Trent puts his resuscitation skills to good use. All he wants is a chance to prove he values Tucker’s wealth of character over meaningless material things. What do you get when you mix fire and oxygen: a five-alarm fire or a prescription for love?

Trent’s commitment to freeing himself from poisonous ties kindles a chain of events that have devastating consequences for both men. Is a relationship forged in fire strong enough to overcome these obstacles or is their love doomed to be just another bitter pill to swallow?

Prescription for love is a small-town, opposites-attract romance. It is the seventh book in the Road to Blissville series but reads like a standalone book. It contains sexually explicit material intended for adults 18 and older.

I haven't uttered the Mama's curse yet, but it could happen any day now. You know the one..."I hope you have a child just like you someday."

I'm an avid reader and lover of all things romance. I've spent my entire adult life waiting to follow my dreams of becoming a writer. One day this past summer, I decided to just do it. No more wishing and hoping. I haven't quit my day job, but that is my ultimate goal...make a living telling stories of love.

I write contemporary gay fiction. I hope you will love reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them.

Dnf. Tucker was absolutely obnoxious holding Trent’s class and money against him. I hate a poor MC who patronizes the rich MC as if having more money than him is a sin. He ghosted the rich guy the first time after their first date, then he regretted it and begged the universe for a second chance and when he got it he acts all precious and magnanimous “Oh,alright , maybe I’ll go on a date with you. Maybe.” . The next day he was already considering canceling because “Oh , he’s out of my league , look what fancy food he had for his birthday dinner” 🙄 Fuck off..What an asshole!

***** We open at Blissville's Animal Shelter, where Trent is looking for a cat.
Trent, 32, is a blonde, blue-eyed and gorgeous doctor,

back from his stint with Doctors Without Borders, and home to stay.
Firefighter/Paramedic Tucker, 32,

is dark haired handsome hunky man, volunteering at the shelter. Both walked away from their attraction before, and now will begin to make up for lost time. They start right away with the sassy, suggestive banter, as Trent picks Boris and Natasha.

We also have Tucker's Grammie who is fiesty, but solid lady who raised Tucker, and other characters from the fire house and hospital. They have homemade dinners, and their sparks go to full on flames. Trent's sis and family are wonderful, but his folks are despicable.

We watch the blooming love and soul deep romance

from our men's needy hearts. There's lots of hot, sweaty, raw and rowdy sexy times, including sex toys, with intense feelings, equal play and tender loving care.

Our terrific writer, Aimee Nocole Walker, brings our feelings along for the ride, where we can get our emotions drawn out, as we are happy, sad, and cry and laugh with our beautiful, endearing main men. The despicable parents are shown the door, but some realities are shaken.

Highly recommended. ENJOY !

I don't know how she does it but each time I think I've just read my favourite book from Aimee Nicole Walker, out she pops with another one!

This latest Road to Blissville novel is my kind of read, light on the angst but with just enough to keep a layer of tension going, heavy on the emotional connections and perfectly pitched with the necessary steam to burn up the sheets.

Josh's old college boyfriend Trent aka Doctor Love, is the one under the spotlight here as we follow his second chance romance with firefighter/EMT Tucker and it really is a beautiful tale of romance, of finding your person, of being able to be yourself.

There's the usual great group of secondary characters and I am totally in love with both Trent's sister Mercedes and Tuck's grammie Shirleen, who are both everything I want to see in a strong female.

On the other hand, Trent's parents can take a long walk off a short cliff and that's all I'm saying there!

Wonderful book in an outstanding series.

I really loved both of these guys, but the star of the show was "Grammie". I loved this dear lady...she says what she thinks and cares not one iota if they like it or not.

Tucker and Trent have had a date before and they seemed to have great chemistry...that is until "the restaurant", Trent's parents had money and Tucker's didn’t, which made him insecure. The date didn’t end very well, and Trent left. For a while. Tucker thought he was gone for good. But neither of them forgot the other. Tucker sees Trent again at the "Adoption Day for Animals" event, and Trent is determined to make Tucker see and remember just how good they were together. With a little bit of Grammie's meddling, they have a date that went much better.

Trent has one of the most toxic set of parents imaginable. I would have happily killed them both and hid the bodies!!!, They almost destroyed everything that Trent had worked so hard for with Tucker. I felt bad for both of these guys...but thought that they would be okay...but how long would it take? Luckly, they realized that all that mattered was how they felt about each other. Neither gave up...and they were determined to make a go of it. It's a great romance story, with fun and really sweet characters...along with 2 cats and Grammie.

3.5 Stars!! 💕 Really liked it!! The story was hot 🔥, sweet 💕 and had very little angst.... a perfect puff romance.. 😍
Continuing on the Blissville series, we get the story of Trent, a.k.a Dr. Love 😉 (Josh's ex from college.. not that I remembered) and Tucker, a firefighter. I didn't really remember them meeting, but apparently they had some sparks between them and had even gone on a disastrous date😬. Trent left for six months to work at Doctors without borders (swoon...😍) and Tucker never got a chance to get to know him better. But that spark gets rekindled 💞when they have a chance encounter at the local animal shelter where Tucker volunteers. Although Trent was looking to adopt one shelter animal, he falls for 2 adorable cats, Boris and Natasha and also snags the opportunity to talk to Tucker. With some meddling from Tucker's grandma; the two hit it off and soon they are burning up the sheets.. 💓🔥🔥🔥. Everything is hunky dory till Trent's evil parents 👿show up to unveil some nasty secrets that could destroy the couple. Can their new-found love survive this upheaval? Will they be able to move on and rebuild their relationship💔?
This is an incredibly sweet and romantic story between two likable MCs who have immense chemistry. Sure it was a little insta-lust-to-love, 😍but since the book picked up about six months after they first met it didn't feel so rushed. All in all, I can certainly recommend this book to all fans of light, puff romances..👍👍. I don't know if Ms. Walker is done with the Blissville series, but if she is then this was nice story to close with. 😍 I feel that it gave closure to all the supporting characters from the two series. It is not a standalone, but can be read as one...👍

Nah.

I shivered when the author unironically wrote "bubble butt." This was a shiver of premonition of bad things to come. And come they did. (The characters didn't -I didn't get that far.)

Two things really killed this for me: the ridiculously quick jump to sexual thoughts from both characters and the incredibly stilted and cringey dialogue. The interactions between characters felt like romcom scripts had been force fed to an AI that was then required to spit out its own version. The result is interactions that vaguely resemble human behavior, but something isn't quite right.

Plus who watches someone eating a taco and immediately thinks of...a different kind of... burrito? This weirdness doesn't ratchet up the sexual tension, it's just awkward and doesn't feel like it fits the pace of the narrative. The fact that the characters parted on bad terms and then half a year later happen to run into each other and both are already thinking about...burritos...I just don't buy it.

I really love getting to meet these guys, but I tell you, what absolutely made this book the best for me was Grammie. She is a pistol. She says what she thinks and who cares if they don't like it. I hope I'm like her when I get older lol.
Tucker and Trent have had a date before. They seemed to have great chemistry, until at the restaurant, Tucker got a bit nervous and insecure, because Trent came from money and Tucker didn't. The date didn't end too well, and Trent left. For a while. But Tucker thought it was for good. And neither forgot the other. When Tucker sees Trent again at an adoption day for animals, Trent is determined to make Tucker see the light on how good they could be together. With a little bit of Grammie meddling in, they have a date, and it goes much better. As they get closer, things are heating up from their pasts. As Trent tries to make a break from his toxic family, they step in and almost destroy everything Trent has worked so hard for with Tucker. It's going to take a lot of patience and a bit of time, but hopefully things will be ok.
I felt so bad for both of these guys. I understood where Trent was coming from, so much, having toxic family of my own. Sometimes you just have to cut them off. But it doesn't make life easier. You want that love you're supposed to get and it's disappointing when you can't get it. But when you make a new a family, that truly loves you, flaws and all no matter what, that's the family you need to keep.
With Tucker, he could have looked up his past, but he chose not to. So the blow wasn't a soft one.
But what I love about these guys, they didn't give up. Even when the doubts and hurts came, they stayed together. They weathered the storm. And it wasn't an easy one. But the connection and love they had for each other was worth it. I love the dedication they had to each other.
As wonderful as these boys are, what made this book for me, was Grammie. That wonderful old lady lol. Oh my gah. You never knew what she was going to say, where she was going to go or what she was going to do. She often had no filter, but you knew you were loved. Moon and back. One of my favorite lines. She loved with her whole heart and anyone she took under her wing knew they were family.
This is a great romance story. I loved it so much. The characters were fun but so real. They made you hope for more as you can't seem to get enough of them.

Tucker and Trent....
I didn't remember them, and I know that each one can be read as a standalone, I just didn't remember anyone from previous books in the series, so I may have to go back for a refresher. Maybe my mind is just slippin, I dunno...
But, Trent and Tucker had gone out once before... things were good with them, but to Tucker, they seemed to be in different tax brackets, and after a fancy date at a nice restaurant, Tucker let his own insecurities cause him to run.

While Trent went away to do some Doctor's without Borders, he hoped to come back and try again with Tucker, as he never let him stray too far from his mind.
Things are cute with these two.... there wasn't a lot of back and forth, which I loved. You could tell they had amazing chemistry, and they didn't play games or second guess a whole lot. They're mature and sweet together, and I enjoyed reading about their do-over.

I also loved the secondary characters, the friends and co-workers, as well as Tucker's, grammie, and Trent's sister and brother-in-law. Plus, guys with cute animals or babies is a enough to make me swoon, even if their dialogue is a bit cringe at time.... I hope i never actually talk dirty and call someone's hole a "pucker"... it did not sound sexy to me in the least.... but other than that tiny tid bit.... everything between them was super hot, or super sweet. It was all just so cute.

In saying that... Trent's parents are minions of all that is evil. I honestly do not understand someones thought process or how they thought that whole scenario would go over well at all. They can't even blame it on wanting what's best for Trent, because nobody can be that delusional, can they?? Well.... they were.

I am glad it ended the way it did with them but I was hoping for some more karmic justice. They got off too light if ya ask me. The way they came in and hurt Tucker? I was proud of Trent for sticking up for his guy, and it just made him that much more charming. It puts a little bump in the road, but as I said.... these two are mature and wasn't about playing games or doubting each other, or any of the usual plot lines, and I enjoyed that in all the chaos, they leaned on each other, and talked things out.....

And the ending was so cute, and I was glad they got to share it with all the people who mattered.
Very good addition to the series.

3.5 stars. This gay opposite attracted novel set in a small town was a cute low angst read. Trent the doctor and Tucker the fireman falls madly in love. It was enjoyable and at parts very steamy read but also very cute. Wasn't overjoyed by it but it was an decent audiobook to listen to and I would give Aimee Nicole Walker another go.

I liked the premise of the book. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to it. At least for me.
I liked the main characters Trent and Tucker just fine.
(Personally, I think different names would have been better, at first I kept mixing them up, as each chapter is written from a different perspective. But with the similar names it was confusing.)

Besides that I would have liked the story more if it hadn't been for the needless drama. I saw the trouble with Trent's parents causing strife coming from the first time they were mentioned. Also, why was the part with the psychologist added, if it wasn't used for more than only to add even more drama. Meh. The drama-lama was working full-time for this one, esp. as this part was also simple description and no action. Something that bothered me at the start too. Too many telling of parts and not showing.
Well and then the book suddenly ended. Nothing was really explained (showed)...just bang - and end. Tucker was also behaving irrational and for Trent, a character that should be a doctor to not see what was happening and not speaking about it...confusing.

This could have been so much better. The story had so much potential.

Just what I needed this weekend. This was sweet with just a little angst. But not a ridiculous, over the top angst just for the sake of angst.

Aimee Nicole Walker always creates interesting, gorgeous, sweet men who spend a lot of time between the sheets. Warning: personal fans are required. Proceed with caution. LOL

When Trent Love comes back from a stint with Doctors Without Borders, the sexy pediatrician is ready to take up where he left off flirting with the big, handsome fireman, Tucker Garrison. Not knowing where the good doctor went after their initial dinner date left Tucker feeling down and lost. He hadn’t cared for the doctor’s choice of restaurant. It was too upper class and pretentious and led Tucker to believe the doc was invested only in material wealth and not in good old middle-class values.

But he was wrong, and when Trent comes back, he sets out to prove it. That turns out to be easy as the two actually get along quite well. In fact, it’s pretty evident to all who know them, including Tucker’s outrageous Grammie, who raised him, that these two belong together. And they seem well on their way to forever when Trent’s obnoxious, petty parents stick their noses where they don’t belong and inadvertently discover something that turns Tucker’s world upside down.

One of the only lifelines he allows himself once the shock wears off is his connection to his heart is his doc, always there with a helping hand. The story is sweet with the requisite amount of angst and opposition, but overall, it’s fun and humorous and a lighthearted MM romance. A few earlier Blissville characters weave in and out of the story, but this can certainly be read as a standalone (as I have done) without any confusion.

Finishing up my audio review of the Curl Up and Dye spin off series…

Once again I have some whiplash because this book was exactly why I listen to and enjoy this series. It was sweet and sexy and the characters endearing and a little bit of drama at the end to spice it up. This was exactly what I look for in a book/audio. And also why I am still scratching my head over a couple of the previous books in this series that we like an alien planet compared to this one. Whether it’s inconsistent writing or ghost writers I don’t know, but I am glad I didn’t give up listening. If for anything, to enjoy Joel because I’ll always love his narration. This was probably my favorite of the spin off books.

Now to listen to the final Curl Up and Dye to finish this universe because I’m a sentimental sap.

Another cute romance in this series. I haven't read them in order but don't think it's necessary. Loved the secondary characters in this one minus Trent's parents, of course. Grammie and Mercedes were great. Not too angsty but plenty sexy...my kind of read. These two were meant to be although Tucker had to be convinced a bit. Just a fun read.

Not a bad book but this series is just getting too cutesy for me and the dialogue can be somewhat unbeliveable most of the time. It's too sugary and tries to be too over the top snarky and sacastic at times. Not much relationship conflict really and it is romantic but sometimes it's too much.

So cute!! I loved the secondary characters like Tucker’s Grammie and Trent’s sister Mercedes and her husband Benji.

Tuck and Trent were a pretty seamless progression. Other than a hiccup (which I think Trent’s parents should take a long walk off a short pier) the men knew what they wanted and wouldn’t accept any other outcome.

This story started interestingly, I liked both characters, but it didn't deliver.
I listened tot he audio and I couldn't differentiate the MCs' voices, which was frustrating. They also had similarly sounding names and I couldn't keep up with who's talking.

Trent’s commitment to freeing himself from poisonous ties kindles a chain of events that have devastating consequences for both men. Is a relationship forged in fire strong enough to overcome these obstacles or is their love doomed to be just another bitter pill to swallow?

Trent and Tucker are perfect for each other, but Trent trying to impress Tuck on their first date, had the simple fireman running for the hills. Then Trent goes off to serve with Doctors Without Borders and that is that. Until he comes back and decides that he will do everything he can to get the happy ending he and Tucker deserve. Cue help from Tucker’s hilarious grandmother and the spark ignites. There are some lovely side characters and also some super villainous ones too, and adorable rescue cats. Once the guys get going, they are all kinds of sexy together, but the most adorable, heart warming smooches too.

This was a lovely book, and I really did enjoy it, but the beginning had me all kinds of confused. I felt like there was a chapter or two that I had accidentally skipped. There seemed to be plenty of missing bits until I got into it, and realised that there was only one or two previous meetings between our MC’s that get referenced, and it all became clear. So if you’re reading this book, keep at it! The ending is so adorable, I’ll be looking out the previous books in the series for sure.

Recommended.

I was given a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Dr. Trent Love is a caring and passionate man who selflessly volunteers for a stint with Doctors Without Borders in South America. He enjoys life in small town USA aka Blissville and happily returns to his job in a local hospital once his commitment is over. Trent also resumes his crush on hunky firefighter Tucker who poses for sexy calendars and kisses kitties goodbye that are adopted when he helps out at the local animal rescue. Tucker adores and respects his grandmother who raised him as an infant after his parents died. Yes, a man that loves his Grammie and kittens! Major swoon!

Tucker also cares for the good doctor but has allowed himself to believe that Trent will tire of him and desire someone in his same class. Trent Love was born into a very rich and ultra snobby family, namely his mother with a poisonous tongue and his father who behaves like a puppet to avoid conflict.

Trent and Tucker try dating and they realize how well they get along. They genuinely enjoy each others company as well as a cosmic physical reaction.

You get to know Trent's sister Mercedes who deeply cares for her own lovely family. Somehow like her brother, Mercedes remains grounded and distances herself from her parents warped and prejudiced views. While their parents don't care that Trent is gay, it is paramount that he meet the proper man of merit and good breeding.

This is a very sweet and sugary novel. So much so your teeth may ache. This is not a criticism. If you are looking for a heavy plot with intense scenes this won't happen here. Instead, you will find a lighthearted charming and well-written novel that is tender, adorable and slightly saccharine at times. The perfect pick me up story to treat yourself to. The evil mother causes her children grief and heartache, which honestly was needed to break up the plot to add the right amount of conflict to keep the book interesting. Tucker's world starts to spiral when all he believes in seems to be a fabrication which is revealed during Mrs. Love's verbal assassination. This brutal attack on Tucker's past tests the limits of their relationship.

This story can be read as a stand alone but there are a number of wonderful stories from Ms. Walker's series. I recommend this fun, flirty and at times heartbreaking trip to Blissville.

3.5 Stars on This Trip to Blissville

Prescription for Love is a cute, relatively low angst story of a second chance connection between Trent, physician and all around do-gooder, and Tucker, firefighter who let Trent slip away because of his own insecurities.

All in all, the story itself is quite cute. The men meet back up over a pair of kitties named Boris and Natasha and the mastermind that is Tucker’s grandmother, Shirlene, aka Grammie. Grammie is a force extraordinaire and she absolutely made this book for me! Tucker has done some serious soul searching in the many months that Trent has been gone, and he’s come to realize that what he thought was so major is, in fact, not even close.

The couple got a little too cutesy and sappy a little too fast for me, but that’s a personal preference, not a slight on the book itself. The only real drama came from Trent’s parents, but that was smoothed over so quickly as to be nearly nonexistent.

There is great depth in secondary characters even with the fact that there are very few of them, and I really enjoy authors who can take little pieces and really make the most of them. Walker did an excellent job of that here.

I was happy for Trent, Tucker, Boris, and Natasha at the end, and content with the book’s wrap-up. All in all, I’d declare it as a 3.5 star read, a bit of light summer fluff when your brain needs a break.

I voluntarily read an ARC copy of this book from the author Aimee Nicole Walker, with hopes for but no obligation to provide a review.

Lives Up to the Cover

I've been meaning to get into this series but when this one came out I dove right in even though it's the seventh one. They all take place in a small Ohio town and this is a standalone according to the blurb. But what drew me in to this one was the cover.

The cover is Trent, the doctor who moved to Blissville to get away from what turns out to be the nastiest and stupidest parents in the history of the world (OK, a bit of exaggeration). In an incident that occurs before he comes back from a tour with Doctors Without Borders he meets up with fireman/EMT Tucker when they help deliver a baby. The attraction is instant but Trent disappears for his overseas stint without telling Tucker what, when or why.

That's a nice way to end something which could have begun.

But when he does return to Blissville, one of Trent's first stops is Tucker's grandmother Shirlene's animal rescue center where the flames start flying before they even say hello--and so do all the questions and fears that Tucker has about getting together with a man who is obviously as smitten as he is.

What follows is a beautifully developed romance between two very virile and sexually insatiable men who are surrounded by some very supporting and loving characters--Tucker's grammie and Trent's sister especially.

What also follows is a stunningly bizarre twist involving Trent's parents which will stand your hair on end and then smooth it down gradually until you look in the mirror and see two wonderful characters who make a wonderful book.
