As a writer, I cover ways to take better care of yourself so that you can be a force for good in the world. (I also do that as a podcaster with my daily podcast, How to Be a Better Person).
As a reader, my heart beats faster for historical fiction and memoir. I have writer crushes on Mary Karr, Anne Lamott, Ann Patchett, Diana Gabaldon, and Jeanne Auel. I also like some male writers, I promise. Particularly, at the moment, Sherman Alexie.
I live in Providence, Rhode Island (home of tolerance, cheer, and clam cakes) with my husband, two kids, and a rescue dog named Cookie.
This is one of those early 2000s books featuring yoga "light" I was such a sucker for - cute drawings, peppy talk. I have it on Kindle, so I'm letting it go. That said...
This is geared to females, and it's great for opening up, finding what you need, and moving on. It does seem geared to women who haven't experienced menopause, but still... there's helpful information in here.
This is an excellent quick reference book for those moments when you've been taking care of everyone else to the point of mental exhaustion and suddenly aren't feeling 100% yourself. Keep this book on your pantry shelf next to the cookbooks, teas and natural remedies, or on the table by your yoga kit, so it can prompt you as a good friend might say, "How about some self-care? You might feel better if you tried ________." I don't know about you but I find it easy to care for others - yet when I'm run down I can't always ask for help or think of the best thing to do for myself.
Author Kate Hanley is a personal friend - she is, among many wonderful qualities, a very practical type. Her book reflects that and doesn't waste bandwidth on flowery prose. The Chill Guide is a very practical book!
Natural remedies known to many new age individuals. Some of the exercises work for me, many do not. My stress/Anxiety is too high and resistant. I really don't know how to relax. It's rare for me to relax.
It had solutions for different afflictions, so I randomly chose parts to read based on the table of contents. Very interesting. A little nutrition. A little yoga. A little acupressure.
