Unusual, interesting and little known stories of the state of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania Tales is aimed at the target of familiarity-plus-novelty. These suspense-packed stories constitute "history for the ordinary person," and a few include really great traditions passed orally from generation to generation.
Webb Garrison, formerly associate dean of Emory University and president of McKendree College, wrote more than 55 books. Before his death in 2000, Garrison lived in Lake Junaluska, North Carolina.
An impressive book. Thirty-six tales of Pennsylvanians and major (and some minor) events that occurred in the Commonwealth. The author presents a splendid variety here that gives us a real brief overview of how large of the role the "Keystone State" has played in shaping America's history. Interestingly, Garrison, a real student of history himself, does not hold back in offering a few brief, intriguing, "What ifs?" at the end of several of the chapters.
I have one word to describe this book. Yawn. Not what I expected at all. I thought it would be fun stories, folk lore, legends, etc. Nope, the majority of the book was about the civil war, different men that partook in different battles.
