To be a harbinger of change. To motivate those around me to join a rebellion. To become a symbol of hope and rebirth in a war that’s not my own.
Yet, the duty has been thrust upon me, and it’s not one I can refuse. Challenged from all sides, I’m forced to make increasingly harder choices as I learn to trust my gut and the powers that burn within me.
As my past and my future collide, Damien, Ryder, Theo, Killian, Hiro, and I are all pushed to step up and take on responsibilities that none of us have prepared for. When life and death hang in the balance, decisions must be made that will change the lives of everyone around us. Can we find the strength to choose the right path as our family is Forged in Flames? Or will we falter when it matters the most?
*18+ Reverse Harem Romance. Warning this book contains scenes and references of abuse that some readers may find triggering. This book also contains some m/m themes.*
I ended up skimming through a lot of the book because it was too predictable, including her still not having any PTSD while having aggressive sex with her "mates" (she still believes taking the last step to make if official is too much *eyerolls*). Nix seems inconsistent as a character - her behaviors and major things that should have bothered her before, doesn't and are swept under the rug. These moments pulled me out of the story.
I felt bad about how they used Joshua. He actually seemed like a caring and kind guy that wanted to change the Council his own way but Nix and gang allowed the Rebellion to pressure and bully them.
The Rebellion hasn't proven anything to them other then they have their own secrets.... Including Rini, her mates and Cire working for them.
Summary of book: The Rebellion plays games with them, she uses Joshua and dies, and they have group sex before learning they are destined mates.
Everything up to 70% could be skipped.... Oh yeah. This book ends at 88%, meaning the last 12% is filler. Which if I remember correctly from the new rules that were made to prevent KU page filler scammers, that is over the 10% rule.
So basically only about 18% of this book is worth reading because the rest was just dumb filler. I kinda feel like my time was wasted and wonder how much more will the authors drag this "8+ book series".... Cause the way 1 and 2 could have been 1 book, book 3 was all about Nix being TDTL....I kinda feel robbed waiting so long for this filler of a book, which probably should have been just combined with the next one.
I'm interested with how the series will end. I just hope that the rest of the trip will be as exciting as books 1 and 2.
Not gonna lie, I'm very disappointed in Nix in this book!
For someone who's been lied to, manipulated, abused and having her choice taken from her time and time again - I don't understand that she's so willing to to manipulate, lie and put others through emotional hell. Sure, she does it because it's best for her family and how she think the world should be... buttttt selfish is selfish *shrugs*
The ending of this book really threw me for a loop as there's no cliffhanger and no Def Con level threats. The Council however has shown their true colors and damn it's a doozy. Considering they are all stuck on stupid and ruling with archaic and unjust rules it's no surprise what they are up to. It took a while though for Nyx's men to see the truth considering they've been raised in the culture and honestly never really questioned things much until she came along. The relationships between Nyx and all the guys continues to grow though she still has yet to go all the way with at least one of them. Time makes the heart grow fonder and all that jazz. Still three books to go but I'm still enjoying the ride and hope by the end we get to watch the shifter world change and the Council to be disbanded or made anew.
Answers!!! Sort of. This book starts to dip into them, though the depth of where that conspiracy - and who all is involved - is still rather up in the air. Intense, emotional and good.
I absolutely loved this book but I'm really sad about joshua. I really want him to become a part of the group. I really enjoy his character. I'm so excited for the next one.
I really enjoyed this as the next instalment of the series and how it developed the plot as well as unveiling new elements of this shifter world. The growth of Nix’s character continues to be particularly awesome and yet there hasn’t been an erasure of her past issues either. Sometimes characters, as they evolve through a series, can lose some of the flaws and issues they had because overcoming them entirely serves the plot more. Nix’s PTSD and Quinn and Harper’s consistency in recognising it has been a big high point for me throughout the series.
The dynamics with Damien, Theo, Ryder, Killian and Hiro was also really good in this instalment and I love how it continues to grow not just with the group overall but as individual relationships with Nix. I will say there is perhaps too much attention given to Killian, and not just in this book but in the last one as well. Obviously, it's tricky to balance out character focus when you have multiple core characters, but I do think Hiro and Damien needed more attention in this book. Having said all of that, I do suspect/hope that Hiro will get more focus in the next book, both in terms of the relationship with his parents/more of his back story as well as his time/bond/relationship with Nix.
My opinion of the Revolution is a bit of a mixed bag at this stage. I love the idea of a revolution against the current council in power and a need for change within shifter culture. The reveal of mating marks was something I was curious about in previous books so answers and revelations in this book were perfect. Having said that the way in which the Revolution has been laid out in terms of factions, entry into the Revolution and its overall intentions doesn’t 100% sit right, for me at least. The different factions were something I didn’t like as it kind of made me feel like Nix and the guys are surrounded by disagreement on all sides. The request to steal basilisk venom and that whole event was a major low point for me as well. Asking people to prove themselves by stealing something that can kill felt like way too big of an ask for proof of loyalty, even if they were bargaining on Nix’s ability to regenerate. The fact that a Councilman’s son fell for the push to shift together and then the purposeful antagonising of his animal side into biting just felt way to easy for me. I would also say that Nix’s reaction to Rini being a part of the revolution didn’t feel quite right for me either. While I wasn’t surprised by Rini being a part of the revolution, the way Nix’s reacted and how she forgave/bypassed the omission from Rini was way too quick and easy.
Overall I loved the book, I loved the possibilities it opened up for the next and future books and I adored the growth it showed us for Nix and the guys. Also, the glimpse into the councilmen and their actions and possible involvement with Michael/the island are really exciting. The creepiness of the island and the development there was awesome and I can’t wait to find out more.
If anyone is interested in a plot/character/writing style/recommendations breakdown, feel free to check out my more in-depth review of the book on my blog The Wonky Bookcase. https://thewonkybookcase.home.blog/20...

~REVIEW🖋~ The Quick and Dirty: Nix and her guys are still trying to figure out what exactly happened to her and Ryder on the island. Killian's brother brings them to meet the rebellion leaders; the ones that plan to take down the council who they suspect is behind the activities on the island. They want in, but they'll have to prove themselves, completing dangerous tasks all the while keeping up the pretense of following council orders.
The part that really struck me in the book was the back and forth between Nix and her guys about choice. In most books the alpha guy(s) are always the first to want to be protective when their mate is in danger, nearly forbidding her to go do whatever dangerous thing it is she wants to do. Then the heroine doesn't tell her guy(s) and goes to do it anyway. I absolutely loved that there was a discussion about it in this book. "Why does your choice matter more than my own?" <-- YES!!! I also loved learning about the faction leaders. Excited to see where it all goes in the next book! Oh, and did I mention the scene between Ryder, Hiro and Nix? And the one with Theo? HOOOOOTTTT!!🔥🔥🔥🔥

I’m unsure if I’ve reviewed the other three books - I think I was so excited to get to the next one I just moved on quickly.
I’m enjoying this series so much! It’s been a breath of fresh air when it comes to RH!!! And I just heard it’s getting released on audio! I highly recommend this series! It’s also very well written.
SYNOPSIS (of 7 Book Series): This is set in the modern world world but where humans and shifters live separately. The FC (Nix) is the last phoenix. She did not know she was a shifter and has been raised by an abusive father. She escapes to university and discovers that there is a whole shifter community. The shifter community is run by a corrupt council who try to control shifters’ lives and breeding and is run by a strict class system with rare shifters at the top. The series covers the FC finding her mates and bonding with them, discovering her background and trying to bring down the corrupt council. There’s a HEA.
The books are well written and edited with only a few typing and formatting issues. On the whole this is an enjoyable series with a decent amount of world, character and relationship building. The FC is likeable and strong - although not overly kickass and each of the MCs is distinct enough in their characters to give depth and diversity in the FC interactions with them.
The sex level is hot and well written. It ramps up over the books until, for me, it became too much and went on for pages. When you’re already looking at a 7 books series the last thing it needed was more padding. I also find 6 too many for RH and into the realms of ridiculous numbers and logistics!
The problem I had with this series is that it is too long with not enough happening to justify its length. The first 2-3 Books keep moving enough as the basic story line develops and the FC meets and gets to know the different MCs but then it just seems to dry up and start dragging. I was skimming large parts of the story by Book 4. The other issue I had was that whilst the author had no issue describing some pretty gruesome things that happened to the “good guys” and showing how evil the villains were when it came to meting out vengeance the Good Guys were all - can’t kill anyone despite how hideous and evil they are. Whilst you may not want your heroes randomly killing where there is no justification books where you have truly evil villains are let down by authors who do not then give their readers a real sense of justice and closure. Finally, and lastly, the final battle was ridiculously drawn out and then, whilst you get a description of the final fight with Stepanov you don’t hear what happens to the other villains. The whole climax left me with a sense of anticlimax and disappointment. I also didn’t see the point of the epilogues which seemed to add little to the ending.
There are a few inconsistencies and gaps in the story - unclear exactly what the phoenix blood does or what happened to the people on the Island who were supposed to be moved to a different place etc.
In conclusion, a decent enough story just long and drawn out with a disappointing ending.
Wow this 4th installment in the Phoenix Rising series was probably my favorite so far! There was so much story and action, relationship developments (within the harem and with the side characters), and so much more. I loved the story and I am 100% invested in these characters. Already getting close to finishing book 5 because I just can't get enough ❤️
So I won't give too much away, but I loved seeing Nix get her girlfriends, I enjoyed their girls night, made me reminisce of ones from my childhood and college days. I like the addition in one of their harem, he is so quirky and such a ray of sunshine haha. I loves quirks, appreciate the authors creating him. We get to learn about the Resistance and they are as cryptic as ever. We get to learn who else is in it, some are pretty surprising. One of the tasks for their initiation is pretty intense and I felt so bad for a certain character. More to come about him in my book 5 review muahaha. The ending was so adorable and freakin amazing, couldn't get enough! I am excited to see where the plot goes for the relationships/matings/suitors and the actual Council vs everyone else and the Resistance. The Council or parts of it are so ruthless and horrible to its people, they will get what's coming to them sooner rather than later. Fabulous job keeping us engaged and locked in on this story! OH and the alters and their powers are amazing as ever, especially the new ones we get to meet. And the bad scene with some of the Council members was super intense and really appreciate how the authors handled it, made it really hit home.
I think the main reason I couldnt give it 5 stars is because the audiobook holds it back. I do list at 1.5X speed but if I didnt honestly the female lead does talk way too slowly. Add in her accent issues and it's tough. Now the male narrator hits it out of the park and when the female narrator does the female voices (barring Theo's family and their accents) she is really good, relatable, and believable.
Story - 5/5 stars; Audio - 3.5 stars which is how I came to the overall 4 star rating.
Forged in Flames (Phoenix Rising Book 4)Kindle Edition by Harper Wylde (Author), Quinn Arthurs (Author) I borrowed this book via the Kindle Unlimited program and am leaving a fair and honest review.
I admit it, I waited for this book like a hungry wolf staring at herd of sheep! I am addicted to Nix's story and love her and her men, Killian, Theo, Damien, Hiro and Ryder – especially Hiro and Ryder!
We pick up after the horrible events of the Gala and the island. Nix can't remember much that happened on the island and her guys are horribly protective, but she has a lot to do. In order to keep the Council off their backs, she needs to start dating the other men, the ones that bid on her during the gala. She has to catch up on her studies. And she needs to make time for her men. Sometimes it feels like too much, particularly with the addition of the Rebellion inviting them in and giving Nix an almost impossible task.
We dive further into their world of Shifters and their mysteries. The adventure, the romance and the sex is worth every minute of it. Ms. Wylde and Ms. Arthur don't disappoint on any account, but they also don't give any piece of the story more weight than the others, which makes the book even more enjoyable.
Again, the special relationship between Hiro, Ryder and Nix is my favorite and I would happily roll myself up in that story alone.
I'm also happy we get more time with Ciaran and that he gets his own little bit of love.
All in all, I'm weeping that the next book doesn't come out until August. I will be re-reading the series over and over until then. This ranks right up there on my RH happy chart.
This was definitely a step up in the Phoenix Rising series, and I’m finally starting to enjoy it again.
Like I mentioned in my previous reviews, the last couple of books were emotionally heavy and often left me frustrated—especially with how Nyx handled situations. But Forged in Flames finally gave me what I’d been waiting for: Nyx growing stronger.
In this book, Nyx finally starts standing up for herself. She speaks her mind, her opinion matters, and she’s no longer just reacting—she’s making decisions. I loved seeing her develop not just as a character, but also in terms of confidence and power. It felt like the story and her personality both matured, and that made it much more enjoyable to read.
Also, the emotionally exhausting tone from the earlier books was finally gone. This one didn’t drain me like the others. I finished it in a single day, and that says a lot about how much more engaged I felt.
Now, for the downside—and yes, it’s still here: the focus on babies. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—I really don’t like how much attention is given to Nyx’s “value” being tied to the idea of mating and having children. It still lingers in the background, and even though the plot has improved, this part just doesn’t sit well with me.
Still, overall, this book was a solid 4 stars. I didn’t love it enough to give it 5, but it was definitely the best so far in the series. I’m really looking forward to what happens next now that Nyx is finally stepping into her power.
Loving the story so far. Now I have to wait two months til book 5 which is a bummer. I’m not sure how I feel about the rebellion though. For them to ask for Basilisk venom seemed ridiculous as a test. I wish they would have gotten some better answers about the island to give to Nix and Ryland. The one thing that kept bothering me throughout the book was when Nix referred to Councilman Maldonado’s accent. She kept talking about his Puerto Rican accent. I really didn’t get it. I’m Puerto Rican and the accent we have in English is the same as most other Hispanics. So that gave me some cringes. It was nice to see her and the guys finally have a group session, and the guys make her feel empowered even if/when being on the more dominant side. Reading the story it feels like more time has passed than what actually has, idk if anyone else has felt that way. I know Nix is against this whole courting business, but at times I just wanted to shake her and be like “suck it up buttercup, you know what you need to do so stop pussyfooting around and just get it done already!” Whining about it obviously isn’t going to do a damn thing to fix the situation. Anyways, I’m anxiously waiting for the next installment. Let’s see what else is out there to pass the time. Lol.
Series review: It's just too long, too many books and not enough action to fill them. It becomes very repetitive. The beginning I was very into - I like the cast a lot, the guys have a lot of depth and dimension, and I like the atypical shifters. Bunny! But by the 3rd or 4th book I started becoming very irritated by most plot points, so I'm unlikely at this point to read the 7th book.
I'm so close to the end of book 6 and I just can't bring myself to continue. So many things make me mad: . I pick up to read, get immediately irritated, put it back down.
Forged in Flames continues the story with Nix and her men as they continue to seek answers regarding the Council and stay under the radar with their romance.
Harper and Quinn absolutely nailed it once again. This story keeps getting better and better. Nix not only takes her relationships further with each of her harem members, but we also learn more about the council and what was done to Nix in Book 3. I think it speaks volumes about the strength of the authors that they can take you through a variety of emotions over the course of each book. They also keep the story fresh by not recycling the usual tropes. Many of the plot lines are ones I have not encountered before in other RH books, and I read pretty much anything I can get my hands on.
I highly recommend starting this series if you haven’t. I know many prefer to wait until all the books are out but this is one that I would urge you not to wait on. Book 5 is already available for pre-order, so as soon as you finish this one, ONE CLICK THAT PRE-ORDER BUTTON!
Lots of new unveilings. Nix and her guys have come so far in their relationship. Nix is slowly getting over her triggers. I have also fallen for the young Basilisk ( never thought I'd be saying this after Harry Potter but there you go! ). I just feel so guilty...that guy's gonna be traumatized to shift in front of others. The council should be disbanded but I don't believe all the council members are bad. Especially, Damien's and Williams.
I am also not so sure about the Rebellion. There's something fishy. Why would they want a cure for basilisk venom when there are only two of them in the region...not enough to be a widespread threat....also, giving this task to uninitiated members was also a irresponsible... makes me wonder if they had a different agenda.
Anyway, enough speculation....as is apparant, I am absolutely thrilled and ensnared with this series! ❤️
I just love this series. Nix is growing confident and sure in her new world with every book. This series is one of the only ones that have the men being actually strong, supportive, and caring. Oh did I mention hot AF. Goodness they are just so soon worthy. Yay Ciaran is back too. The twists and new developments were a good surprise!!!! No spoilers. It all just ended way too fast for me. Now I have to wait again. The only negative for me was the constant "I need to find time to do this with the hiys" every chapter. I know that this particular group has not had it very easy at all they never seem to catch a break. I just wish we could come up with something else to say than that phrase every time Nix is with her men.
This book is simply amazing, brilliant, really. I LOVE to see how much Nix is growing, now much she has already grown. I love her interactions with her guys. I loved to see her relationship mature and grow. Harper and Quinn have this wonderful gift with words, they have a way of just grasping you from the get go and making you feel a range of emotions along with the characters. This book is yet another proof of how fantastic this duo is. So many secrets were revealed and there’s so much more that need to be answered! The twists and turns of this book had me hooked. And I love how they let each of the guys shine separately. I’m also half in love with a side character and I’m hoping I’ll see much more of him. This is a great continuation and I cannot wait to see what else awaits me.
5 stars for Forged in Flames by Quinn Arthurs and Harper Wylde. This is book 4 in the Phoenix Rising Series. Omg this series has me on the edge of my seat. I can not wait to learn about what everyone is hiding. In this book everything is getting deeper and deeper. Just when we think we have something figured out , BAM we are hit with something else. Honestly I am not sure who Nix and her guys should trust. I do not believe anything is as it seems. The more we read the more we learn that the council has a lot of secrets and none of them are good. I don’t think I would trust anyone on the council including Damien’s parents. What is going to happen next , can Nix and the guys hold it together. There is so much going on and I can not wait to dive into the next book.
This is hands down my favourite supernatural RH series!
Each book just gets more amazing! This book was HOT!! Seriously Ryder, Hiro & Nix!! 😍😍 plus the hot springs scene was just STEAMY as all get out! Even though the book is hot as can be it still has an amazing storyline. These characters have been through so much & I can only imagine it’s going to get worse before it gets better. The things we learned in this book blew my mind, you don’t see have of these things coming! I can’t wait to find answers to my questions & five deeper into the rebellion & council. Thank you Quinn & Harper for this amazing series! I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
Omg 😱 this series has me on the edge of my seat. I can not wait to learn about what everyone is hiding. In this book everything is getting deeper and deeper. Another amazing book about Nix and her fated mates. When the hell will they finally just get to seal the bond and forge forward into what is destined to be an amazing future?!! I don’t want this series to end any time soon! It’s steamy sure, but more, it’s heartening to see a woman who has had the roughest life imaginable be put back together piece by piece by this group of mates that without a doubt will be devoted to her until and after the day she no longer rises.
What can I say, this story just keeps getting better and better. I absolutely love these characters and getting to watch them continue to grow as a group is so amazing! I could never pick on,e I absolutley love them all in different ways! They each bring such a different dynamic and all compliment each other! There is even more steam in this book and it was soooooo good! There are great twists and turns that keep you sucked into the story. This is a great next installment and I can't wait for more!
Three stars to mark a solid but uneventful book. It was extremely well written, as always. The steamy scenes were nice. The characters are still intriguing and enthralling. However, the plot of this particular addition to the series was dry at best. I devoured the others in hours. This one took a while. It was just a lot of talking and no action. I'm glad to see Nix developing into a confident woman, letting the shackles of her PTSD fall from her, but it would have been nice to have a bit more drama.
I’m sure most, if not all of you reading this have read the previous books. For those you haven’t, I highly recommend.
This book continues to explore the world and provide answers we so desperately want to know. Of course, more questions are asked, but overall more questions are answered. Relationship develop is good, as is the anticipated Rebellion. Not much happened in the book action-wise. This book seems to be a filler to gain more information and building suspense for those who know there is only one book left.
This book was amazing!! I loved how much the relationship between Nix and all the guys grew throughout. The ‘I love you’ scene was everything I could have hoped for. I feel more in the love with the guys and how they each show their love for Nix in their own ways. This book combines just the right amount of steamy scenes with edge of your seat scenes. Can’t wait for the next book to see what else is going to be happening!
This was an excellent continuation for Nix and her mates. It was nice to see them all get closer and learn more about each other as well as more about the rebellion. So many things were brought to light in this book and it made it a very emotional installment. My one complaint is it felt kind of slow. I feel like I expected more action than I got. Can’t wait for the next book.
I read through this book so quickly, that I ended up reading it again. I love these characters and I'm so glad some of them finally get their 1 on 1 time with Nix. Now let's talk about the wow portion. The adventure, the mystery, the love and yes let's not forget the sex! They're all my favorite parts! August is way to far away but I will definitely be waiting impatiently for the next book.
