This book was very cute! What really drew me in was the adorable cover. The storyline was interesting, and it had some funny, laugh out loud parts which I did enjoy. I really liked Preslee’s character and found her very relatable. This book was an easy, lighthearted, quick read. After I started this book, I realized this is book #4 in a series and I’ve never read any of the previous books but it still read just fine as a standalone novel. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a light read.

Thank you to Net Galley and Forever Publishing for a copy of this book in return for my honest review! This book is available now.

Out of the Blue by Alison Bliss
4th book in the series. Contemporary romance. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Preslee’s medical tests come back as pre diabetic. She needs to make a life style change immediately or go on medication. Not knowing much about the workout process, she heads to the local gym. Josh is enamored with Preslee’s beautiful face. He owns the gym and offers to train and coach Preslee on her health journey.

Cute story. The author is clear the workouts and diet change are health related and not simply weight management. I liked the support Josh gave Preslee but had to wonder about the timing of the race. Events like obstacle courses and team wall climbing challenges are generally not for amateurs. But maybe that’s just my own avoidance.
Bottom line, read it for the romance and relationship which was fun and steamy. Her dad was hilarious in teasing Josh.

This was one of those books that I really wanted to like because as a more-than-plus-sized woman I am all about body positivity and self-acceptance. That's not what I found in this book. What I found instead was a lot of lip service being given to losing weight and getting fit for your own happiness, but in reality it's to get the guy. I also have a big problem with the amount of disordered eating that is present in this book that is never really addressed. Keeping a Twinkie in your car for a snack is one thing, but crash dieting, excessive exercise, and gaining 20 pounds in a month due to depression are just kind of brushed aside with a "well, that was a silly thing for me to do" attitude. All of these are serious undiagnosed issues, and I think the author missed an opportunity to promote positive mental health in these situations.

Also, this book was relentlessly predictable. I know it's a romance and that all romances follow a formula, but this one offered nothing original. I was rolling my eyes at all of the mixed signals and miscommunication between our leads. Seriously, nobody is that clueless.

I did enjoy the relationship between Preslee and her dad, and would have liked to have seen more interaction between the two.

⭐⭐/5

I liked the story and the characters had chemistry with (for the most part) wonderful personalities.
My big downer is the same one I have with every plus size MC.
She needs more confidence. I want a curvy lady who isn't ashamed of her body or trying to lose weight in order to be more desirable. I have yet to come across a plus size characters who has all the confidence and bravado that most curvy ladies have in real life...or should have if they don't.
If you know of a book like this, please comment below.
Much love to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for my DRC.

This was my first book by Bliss. Yes I know this is book number 4 in the Perfect fit series. But it reads as a stand-alone. I connected Preslee and I fell in love with Adam from the very beginning. This is a must read.

Out of the Blue is the fourth book in Alison Bliss’s A Perfect Fit series. The story is told from two perspectives, Preslee’s and Adam’s, which I liked because you get to understand the thoughts, feelings, and motivations of both characters. Preslee Owens is a new client at a local gym where Adam is the owner and personal trainer. After a terrible first-time experience at the gym, complete with a viral vlog of her stair master mishap, Preslee has no intention of going back and reliving the mortifying experience. But her viewers loved the video, and when handsome Adam offers to train her and pretend to be her boyfriend to get her crush jealous, Preslee agrees. As the pair grows closer, Preslee and Adam can’t deny their growing feelings and must decide if they want to take a chance on a love that came out of the blue.

I thought Preslee was a dynamically developed protagonist and so relatable. As a plus-size woman, I understood her fears and insecurities, as well as her struggles. She doesn’t always make the best choices, and her road to wellness isn’t smooth, which made her all the more relatable. She is a bold and confident woman, yet she is also vulnerable and sensitive. There are many layers to her character, and I love that she takes this journey for herself. She’s not trying to impress a man or lose weight for someone else. She’s trying to change her habits and live a healthier lifestyle for herself and no one else.

Preslee also realizes that she must face some issues that attributed to her weight gain in order to really get healthy and have a fuller life, which was important to her growth. The story definitely addresses some tough subjects about health, weight, past trauma, and more, but it’s balanced nicely with the romance and more light-hearted scenes.

Adam is an amazing love interest, and he was fantastic from the start. He is so supportive and sweet, and the perfect person to help Preslee on her journey. As the owner and personal trainer of the gym, Adam is dedicated to his job and helpful to his clients. And the way he treats Preslee is wonderful. Preslee can’t believe that a gorgeous man like Adam would ever find a bigger girl like her attractive, but she is so wrong!! Adam thinks she is beautiful from their first meeting, and he admires her curves. He is so patient and thoughtful, and it’s clear that Preslee’s weight loss goals are her goals, not his. He doesn’t want to change her and appreciates and likes her as she is. Of course, Adam is also motivated by a bet he made with his best friend to get Preslee to train with him at the gym, which pushes him and Preslee together even more, and their witty banter, sexually charged interactions, and budding romance are lovely.

I enjoyed this story. It’s fun and funny, and there are some great laugh-out-loud moments. Preslee and Adam are great protagonists, and their romance is amazing!!! I also thought there were some strong messages about wellness, healthy living, societal pressures, self-esteem, and more. Though this is the fourth book in the series, it can easily be read as a standalone, and I would definitely recommend it to readers of rom-coms or contemporary romance. Special thanks to Forever Publishing for sending me a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

This book was good. I really enjoyed Preslee’s character. She was so full of heart and determination. I also found her being so clumsy to be such a cute trait! It added a cute layer of humor to this story. I love the message this book sends. It’s important to get fit for your health but also for yourself. I could totally relate to Preslee’s character. It is always so scary putting yourself out there especially when you have low self esteem. But honestly, that did not stop her from going and starting her journey for the better. No matter how insecure she felt or how much she wanted to give up she kept going for herself. It’s really important when making lifestyle changes to do it for yourself and not others. I loved that she wasn’t making these changes for a man but instead for her own health. I liked Adam’s character and I think it was a really sweet love interest. He was there the whole time cheering her on and pushing her to do the right things. While I found the ending to be a little predictable it didn’t take away any enjoyment I received from this story. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants a sweet motivational story with a swoon worthy romance.

Full Disclosure - Books with body image/health and fitness themes don't always work for me. Out of the Blue was a completely different take on this theme and I kind of liked the honesty behind it. Preslee joins a gym because of her health. I loved that. I loved that it wasn't about a dare or a challenge or anything external or superficial. She had legit reasons for making a lifestyle change and did the work. Adam is the gym owner and the trainer that she hired after some "mishaps" on her first gym visit. He is honest and sweet and genuinely cares about his clients success.

I appreciated that the banter was good. I liked that the body image themes were honest but not mean. I liked that they had a conversation about body image and the things we assume for him and for her. If you liked One to Watch or Fastest Way to Fall - this might be one that you need.

Thank you to the publisher for gifting me an arc via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

As a plus-size person, I’m always hesitant to read book featuring plus-size characters. Unfortunately, I couldn’t connect with the characters in this one. I understand why the book was set in a gym but I hate that plus-size characters always have to have a gym moment. Even if authors aren’t trying to, there’s focus always put on the person’s appearance. I just wish a character could be plus-size without a gym moment.

I’m still waiting for the book with the plus-size heroine who gets to be who she is without others focusing on her appearance and weight.

With news from her doctor that she's prediabetic Preslee knows she has to make a lifestyle change. She has never set foot in a gym before and it shows with her fumbling her way around the stairclimber. Gym owner, Adam Caldwell, sees her mishap and rescues her, but not before a video of the incident goes viral. Adam offers to train her for free in exchange for further promotion of her gym. (of which the video helped). There's also a secret bet with Adam and his co-worker which you know won't turn out well.

I really liked both Preslee and Adam's characters. The reader gets both of their POVs, which is my preference in a romance novel. I like knowing what they are both thinking. Preslee had had a lot of people leave her in her lifetime. She has no faith in anyone staying and she knows her size doesn't help. Adam, who us muscular and in shape, is an amazingly good guy who believes beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that he likes what he sees. Trying to convince Preslee of this will take a lot of work.

A negative for me is that the miscommunication between Preslee and Adam went on a little longer than necessary. It just seemed strange that everyone else could see that they both were interested in the other, but they didn't.

This is my first read by this author. I know now that this is book four in a series, but this can be easily read as a standalone. I liked the author's writing style and will definitely read more by her.

Thank you to Forever Publishing for a gifted copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Light, charming, and sweet!

Out of the Blue is a playful, steamy tale that mixes the kind, plus-sized Preslee, who’s determined to get fit now that she’s learned she’s prediabetic, even if it means she has to step into a gym for the first time in her life, and the hard-bodied, driven Adam, who may finally have found the perfect woman for him, curves and all.

The writing is amusing and cosy. The characters are engaging, considerate, and endearing. And the plot is a delightfully entertaining tale filled with family, friendship, undeniable attraction, sizzling chemistry, tender moments, quirky hijinks, self-discovery, and light drama.

Overall, Out of the Blue is a humorous, cute, feel-good read by Bliss that is the first novel I’ve read by this author but certainly won’t be my last.

Thank you to Forever and Grand Central Publishing for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

OUT OF THE BLUE (A Perfect Fit # 4) by Alison Bliss is mine and it’s a pretty cute rom com! It’s about a plus size woman, Presley, who falls (literally!) for her personal trainer, Adam. I didn’t know this was part of a series before reading but this book totally works as a stand alone too.
.
What I liked:
- plus size Preslee and hunky Adam, they’re a cute match
- funny meet cute as Preslee struggles using a stair climber for the first time
- the humour! Several moments made me chuckle
- fake dating!
- there’s a secret bet just like in She’s All That
- spicy scene I wasn’t expecting
.
What I didn’t like:
- the cover! It’s cute but doesn’t have anything to do with the book at all
- extreme weight loss and gain
- Adam would call Preslee sweetheart and honey
- the ending!!
.

This was a heartwarming dual perspective, open door romance featuring a plus-size heroine looking to improve her lifestyle choices in light of a prediabetic diagnosis. Cue the hot personal trainer who agrees to help her in exchange for social media spotlights. Of course he fails to disclose his initial motives for working with Preslee and this leads to conflict (of the kind that's not my favorite). I did find Preslee really relatable, she suffers from a lack of confidence and has a lot of negative self talk. Adam was great at trying to help her build her confidence though and he was pretty much a perfect book boyfriend. Overall an enjoyable read with a decent level of steam! Much thanks to NetGalley and Forever for my advance review copy!

Funny, sassy and feel good. I loved how emotionally raw Preslee was because she is a very realistic character that is easily relatable to any curvy women struggling with self esteem and confidence. Just like her I HATE going to the gym for fear of others judging me and making fun of my inexperience working out. It really brings down my drive to do a workout even a simple cardio one and leads to me giving up every single time. Preslee has inspired me (through the help of Adam) to not give a damn what others think and to love my body.

I recently read an ARC of Out of the Blue by Alison Bliss. I found the characters and the storytelling enjoyable, but I thought the fat representation really missed the mark. It was about Preslee who is trying to make some health improvements, but her goal is to lose weight and the focus is looking better in clothes, and also the attention of a man. I think if you are truly focusing on health those wouldn’t be the primary objective. This book also had disordered eating and over exercising that needed medical intervention and I didn’t think that there was enough push back on just how dangerous it can be. I was also disappointed by the sentiment that fat people are fat because they do not work hard enough. If only fat people ate right and exercised they too could be desirable, that was a strong sentiment in this book. It failed to acknowledge the recent research that shows fatness to be largely genetic and hormonal. Weight loss is not a cut and dry issue, it requires nuance, and sometimes books about “health” are just coded terminology for the age old tale of losing weight so you can win the guy which is a tired cliche.

Out of the Blue by Alison Bliss was a cute, feel-good read—though definitely predictable. I gave it four stars for its charm and light-hearted fun.

The story follows Preslee, who decides to join a gym and start a fitness vlog. What could have been an embarrassing experience quickly turns into a success, as viewers fall in love with her honest and relatable journey. Encouraged by the positive feedback, Preslee keeps going—only to discover that her longtime crush, Josh, also works out at the same gym.

To stir things up, she ends up hiring a personal trainer named Adam, who agrees to pretend to be her boyfriend in an effort to make Josh jealous. You can probably guess where things go from there!

While the plot held few surprises, the characters were likable and the story delivered exactly what you'd want from a light, romantic comedy. If you're looking for a predictable but sweet read, this one fits the bill.

3.5 stars!

After learning she is pre-diabetic, Preslee is determined to make a lifestyle change and lose weight. She joins a gym for the first time in her life - and on her first visit, an unfortunate stair climber incident leads to a viral video, causing embarrassment to Preslee and much-needed publicity for the struggling gym. Enter Adam, the gym’s owner and personal trainer, who offers to train Preslee in exchange for further promotion of the gym (and makes a secret bet with his best friend that he’ll succeed in helping Preslee reach her weight loss goal). As they train together, Preslee contends with her personal insecurities, as well as her growing feelings for Adam.

This book was so authentic and relatable for me. I love seeing plus size representation, and Preslee’s thoughts and fears closely reflected things I’ve felt myself. There’s a lot of discussion of fitness and nutrition and weight loss, but from my perspective it was addressed in a healthy way. When I started the book, I almost feared it would be too intense being in Preslee’s head because of how much I related, but was happy to see it was dual POV - having Adam’s perspective provided some welcome breaks for me (and I also enjoyed his storyline).

Speaking of Adam… what a dream! He’s one of the most kind, considerate, thoughtful, respectful male leads I’ve encountered in a rom com - truly top-shelf book boyfriend material. It was so lovely, and almost escapist, reading a male character like that. I really enjoyed seeing the trajectory of his relationship with Preslee.

There were a couple of very minor things I didn’t love. Adam used a lot of pet names with Preslee (baby, sweetheart, etc.), which to me felt like they weren’t always appropriate in the context of where their relationship stood (and I’m not the biggest fan of that in any event). I also thought the basis of Preslee’s abandonment concerns came across as a bit of a stretch in some respects, though I recognize everyone reacts to things differently. But these are pretty minor critiques of what is otherwise an authentic and heartwarming read.

I note that this book is actually the fourth in a series, and I haven’t read the other books. But as far as I can tell, it’s really a standalone story.

Thank you so much to Forever for the gifted finished copy of this book. Opinions are entirely my own.

First, thank you to the publisher for the free audiobook. I recommend it, the narrators did a great job.

I loved the setup for this story and how our leads are thrown together. It’s a great meet-cute and incredibly believable. One of the worst feelings of never being in a gym before is the initial entrance, figuring out how everything works, finding the right fit and vibe, and being so self conscious it hurts. There really needs to be a better introduction to gym-life.

The romance is fun and easy to read. Preslee and Adam are cute and awkward and perfect rom-com fodder. There is great backstory for each of them and their roads forward make sense! I love when everything feels well-plotted with trouble looming but also delightfully amusing as it plays out.

A few things fell flat though:
- I wish Adam had more to his chapters than constantly getting turned on by Preslee’s sexy curves.
- Giving Preslee a late in the book reason for weight gain undermines the plus size heroine, instead of just letting her exist.
- Further, only realizing how attractive she is after the hero convinces her of it is stale. As is not letting her use the word “fat” like it’s a bad word. Wish more effort had gone into recognizing it’s a descriptor not an attack on “beauty”.

There are some hiccups and hijinks, good and bad. Overall though, it was my first book from this author and it was an easy romance that I enjoyed. Actually the longer I sit with it the fonder I get with the memory of it. It works as a standalone, but I’m definitely interested in reading the previous books in the series.

In short: After getting the news that she was pre-diabetic, Preslee decides it’s time to take action & join a gym. Her goal is to get healthy, not to lost weight. See full synopsis on next slide.➡️

What to expect:
❤️Faking dating trope
❤️Plus size representation
❤️Great character growth
❤️Told from dual POV’s

My thoughts: Oh my, I loved this book and how much I saw of myself reflected in Preslee. This book was an excellent portrayal of what it feels like for a plus sized woman to enter the gym for the first time, the mental battles and comments we endure, the emotional eating, the fight to focus on health and not weight loss. At the same time I really enjoyed that Adam encouraged & challenged Preslee to see herself as he did; strong, confident & beautiful. I just wish it hadn’t taken her so long to realize that not everyone leaves her & stop doubting everyone. Overall I loved this book for the journey she took, the confidence she gained and the feeling she got from accomplishing a goal for herself.

DNF at 30%

I hate DNFing books, and this one was tough because it was cute with a promising romance. But, as a plus size woman who’s only just finding comfort in her own body, I found myself miserable reading about a fat girl focused on weight loss.

The reasoning behind her goals is fine, and I understand what the author wanted to do here by writing her own weight loss journey when the threat of diabetes became a reality. I just found myself in almost a panic by the time Adam was clearing out ALL the junk food from her Preslee’s cabinets because I’ve done that too many times to count.

I did love the beginnings of their romance though, so I’m going to look for another book by this author to read instead. I have a feeling I’ll love her writing with a different story!

I have been wanting to read this series for some time, which means of course I started with book 4 lol. But, it really is a a stand-alone with the other characters popping up and making me want to read their stories even more. Now, on to Preslee and Adam…I LOVED them! The story is real and timely, and just wonderful. Both have their own obstacles to overcome and I loved going on their journey with them!

I am always here for a romance starring a plus-size lead. As a plus-size woman who is also making some food and fitness changes for my health, I was interested to see how Alison Bliss would handle this romance, and for the most part I wasn't disappointed in the handling of fat rep in this one.

Preslee joins a gym in an attempt to lose some weight as her family doctor just told her she's pre-diabetic, and she wants to nip that in the bud. Adam is the extremely built, extremely sexy owner of the gym she joins, and he is very into Preslee from moment one. He thinks she's gorgeous exactly as she is, and is supportive of her weight loss journey because it's her choice for her body, and he supports her improving her overall health. There is a moment where he thinks about not wanting her to lose too much weight and lose her curves that was a smidge objectifying, but he's a dude in a romance novel so eh.

The chemistry between Preslee and Adam was cute at times. There's a little element of fake dating in here so you get some of that delicious "oops, feelings" and "did he do that because he wanted to or was he faking for show?" type of goodness. That being said, there are several spots where the pacing is pretty off, and what felt like big jumps forward in time.

This was a solid 3 stars most of the way through, but then the ending had me rolling my eyes so hard it quickly dropped to 2.5 stars, then 2. -_- Throughout there are some concerning issues that are just sort of brushed aside (disordered eating/crash dieting, excessive exercise), but then the final bout of depressive weight gain (20 lbs in a month?) without addressing that at all was just too much. I own one of the other books in this series but I'm not sure if I'll read it or not at this point.

A digital ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley for review. All opinions are unbiased and my own.

I liked this book a lot! The plot was good with all the right ups and downs, and I loved the characters, they were very real. I feel like I’d be comfortable in their small town meeting them for a drink.

Adam is a hunky personal trainer who owns a gym that has a lot of weight lifters and regular townspeople. Preslee is a curvy local who’s doctor told her she was pre diabetic, so she decides to go to the gym and exercise. She has a blog, and makes a post while she’s on the stair climber. When she can’t figure out how to turn it off, Adam steps in and saves her. The video goes viral, and brings customers into the gym.

Adam is very attracted to Preslee, but knows she needs a trainer to meet her health goals, and he doesn’t date clients. He makes a bet with his partner that she’ll meet her goals and then trains her for free hoping she’ll make more videos. Preslee has a crush on Adam, but she thinks he can’t possibly be attracted to her.

They start training together and Preslee decides to do a mud run with Adam and his brother. She makes it, barely, and passes out at the end. She ends up at Adam’s house, and they finally act on them attraction.
Preslee doesn’t know about the bet or the videos, and Adam knows she’s going to be angry, especially since they’ve spent the night together.

I loved how honestly attracted Adam was to Preslee, and I thought it was great that Preslee gets in shape for her health not just for her weight. I recommend this book, 4 stars.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I am conflicted with this one. In some ways this novel was great, especially in regards to body positivity, plus size representation, and the messaging on assumptions regarding physical appearances. However, I did have some issues with this novel.

Although there was an author's note and an overall great message introducing this novel, I could see how this novel could be extremely triggering. Even with the goal of the novel being the opposite. With some of the language and crash dieting, I could see how it could effect some readers negatively. As well, there were moments that I felt were unrealistic when it came to Adam's attitude and certain conversations. Unfortunately, some aspects of this story I found were unbelievable but maybe that's just my own personal cynicism.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read and certainly one that had me laughing out loud at moments, but I think readers will have to be cautious before picking it up.

Super fast read with charming characters with a hea. A 28yo overweight (not obese) woman who has never broken before, has been diagnosed with prediabetes. She joins a local gym and while there she meets the gym owner who becomes her personal trainer.
She didn't have any self-esteem and couldn't understand why any man would ever be attracted to her in her body. I did appreciate how Andy explained to her that curves were sexy and many men love them.

Note:
There was a very unrealistic part in the story that I would've rather not read because as women it's what we believe in our heads that would happen.
As adults, 2 grown men would never heckle, laugh, joke, and make fun of a woman who is overweight (most men are scared of women and she could've been pregnant) at a gym for an entire session! That stuff is for kids!

After learning that she is pre-diabetic, Presley joins a gym to try and improve her health and finds herself falling for her personal trainer.

This was a fun rom com and I love a curvy heroine. The author perfectly captured the intimidation of walking into a gym and feeling like you don't belong there because you don't know how to use the equipment or no one else looks like you. I loved our hero Adam who is trying to build a supportive workout environment and strives to help Presley find her confidence and recognize her own strength.

Presley felt very relatable as we all have ups and downs on our wellness journeys. I loved the chemistry and banter between her and Adam and just wish we got to see more of it play out. It's a heartwarming story with lots of charm and I recommend for fans of One to Watch. I especially enjoyed the audio and liked hearing the altering narration between Adam and Presley.

PS: I didn't realize this is the fourth in a series and reads fine as a standalone.

Thanks Hachette Audio for my gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

Out of The Blue is book 4 in the A Perfect Fit series . Alison Bliss has a way of tugging on your emotions and also making you laugh all at the same time.
When Preslee learns she is prediabetic she is determined to make healthier choices. She joins a gym in hopes of losing weight and immediately meets Adam, the gym owner. Adam offers to train her as a bet but finds himself really falling for Preslee. Preslee thinks that since she is a bigger girl that she has no chance with the hot trainer.
Alison does a great job reiterating that Preslee is working out and losing weight to better herself . Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC for my honest opinion.

True Rating: 2.5 stars

Alright, so I have read all 4 of the books in this series from this author. 2 have been hits, and the other 2 have been misses. Sadly, this one was a miss for me. The way that this one has on page disordered eating that is never truly discussed hurts me a lot. As a plus sized woman, who has disordered eating, this was somewhat triggering, so please tread carefully.
Now, I did appreciate the hero trying to help her do things in a healthier way, because he actually cares about her. I still struggled with all of the weight loss being centered on getting a guy. So sadly, this is not a new favorite for me, and that makes me sad. Books 2 and 3 in this series were truly amazing for me though, so I would recommend checking those out.

First of all, I LOVE Adam. Literal perfection. He is the sweetest. Preslee, however, was a bit whiny for me at times. I get not being confident in your body but I wanted her to feel better about herself. I still liked her and I loved this book.

Short and sweet:
Plus sized MC
Cinnamon roll MC
Kind of fake dating
Spicy scenes

"I never said anything about this being only for one night". I almost screamed. Ugh. Highly recommend this book!
