2.5⭐️ Sweet, but very low in action.

Very bland.
Some angsty behaviour early on, but no real explanation for why it was so bad…
One reason was provided, but it just didn’t fit for the ferocity of the verbal attacks and troll behaviour online. ?? 🤷‍♀️

Then it was easily resolved.
We had some interesting ghost action, but nothing really to give chills over. Finished off with…nothing?
No resolution, no real closure, just a compilation of their experiences that we are told, not shown.

A lot of seriously missed opportunities. Like the inclusion of a homeless Vet. Lincoln is ex, but didn’t ask where he was stationed, what training, how long, etc.. Basically all the shared history that is normally exchanged, over shared experiences, and understanding. 😧🤨

Our FMC is apparently vanilla experienced, but doesn’t blink, or hesitate at the idea of four guys? 🤔👀

Everything is so easily achieved.
Some will love this sweetness, but wasn’t for me.

[Desperate need for editing. A lot of incorrect words, random sentences that made no sense, and overly worded in places. Some dialogue was just ridiculous, and clearly not gender realistic, regardless of societies progression 😂🫣]

So, full disclosure, I'm nearly finished with book 2, but backtracking to do this review.

This book is a pretty rough start to what is turning out to be a cute, light paranormal RH series. I liked the concept, but I came extremely close to dnf in the first 25%. Part of that is because it is honestly a bit clunky. I think maybe the author knew where she wanted to go with it, but wasn't totally sure how to get there. Mostly, I'm referring to the relationship with the harem. For 3 of the 4 guys, it's pretty insta-love. Like, they come into the story seeming to already be really into Brea, from her vlog. The other guy is such a complete piece of shit that I disliked the FMC Brea for allowing him to breathe air around her. Seriously, he deserved a throat punch like 5 times in the first 20% of the book. I hate the body betrayal trope more than probably any other trope out there, because not only does it make me hate the asshole love interest, but I also hate the FMC for having no respect for herself, no demand that she deserves better.

I powered through because the ghost hunting framework was fun, and I wanted to see where things felt when the asshole was onboard. Things were moving so fast, I figured that would happen by the 50% mark, and it did. And it was immediately as if it never happened, he was a completely different person. So while that's irritating, I could go with the flow and ignore the dipshit he had been, because once the group was functioning as a unit, the ghost hunting story was a lot of fun. I sailed through the back half and am at the 90% mark of book 2 (pausing to cook dinner). It's light and frivolous, but good fun.

4-4.5 Stars

My friends this really gave me what I didn't know I wanted. This was like my dream book at the moment. Its like Ghost Adventures (my ghost tv guilty pleasure), meets RH romance, meets Vlogging. I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF THIS.

I know what you are thinking, "Kaity why didn't you rate it 5 stars then?"

The main reason is that I didn't was because I felt like the relationship was a little rushed, and when skimming over some parts or my eyes just didn't pick up on everything. I would miss key things and even when rereading the sections I still was a little lost. I still was confused even by the end of the book if the Ghost Dudes were staying at the hotel or not... which is a bit embarrassing but who cares?

I loved the scare factor that this book had, it had me at the edge of my seat the whole time. I do wish we got a little more on what the deal with Mack was (he was Brea's biggest fan). I was hoping for some interaction with him and the guys, but nothing really came of that, that was kind of a loose end that I would have liked to be tied down.

Overall this book had what I was looking for and didn't have any lulls, I was engaged the entire time. Bummed that this is a side series, so it won't take up a lot of Jarcia James's time, but whenever a new one comes out I will be downloading that ASAP!

The Guys: Ghost Dudes
-Lincoln: The leader, thought that Brea was lying and falsifying her evidence. Then as the investigation continued he saw that she wasn't, and started to open up to her more. Ex- Military.
-Ryker: The shy guy. He was the most quiet out of the guys, but the nerd of the group.
-Ben: Chill guy, has a more relaxed vibe about him. LOVES CANDY, that is the kind of guy I approve of.
-Ethan: Funny, dad bod guy, his brother passed that is how they became the Ghost Dudes

Brea: She is really independent, doesn't have a partner who would go ghost hunting with her. She loves Alpacas and also has an affinity for snacks. I think that she really balances out the guys and they do the same for her. Built her RV to take her around the US for ghost adventures!

3.5 almost a 4. It was different, I liked it and it worked. Plus ghost hunting reverse harem? I am there. Travelling ghost hunter mc enters a competition to prove she’s not a fake. The guys are her rivals and the ones calling her fake.

The mc is ballsy to the point she needs to get her head checked. Sam and Dean Winchester would seriously chew her out. Why would you repeatedly piss off a poltergeist that can physically harm you? Not forgetting her lack of people skills, obsession with alpacas and naive innocence, she needs babysitters.

The ghost dudes Lincoln, Ryker (yep another one), Ethan and Ben. Not quite insta-love more puppy love and one not quite insta-hate. No jealousy, plenty of sex both single and group.

The back stories are kinda info dumps and I had a problem with the ‘he said’ if your concentration wanders for a moment you’ll need to go back at least a page to find out which guy the mc is with. No cliffhanger but one question left open. Good story.

Haunts and Hotels is the first book in The Spirit Vlog by Jarica James.

Brea is a paranormal vlogger, and when a opportunity to to get a decent payout for finding some ghostly evidence at a resort, she jumps at the chance. However, it won’t be a simple task with her sexy rival vlogger Lincoln also competing. Oh and not to forget the other members of Ghost Dudes - Ryker, Ben and Ethan.

Haunts and Hotels is a fun, a little spooky and adventure filled reverse harem paranormal contemporary romance.

3.5 stars.

I really liked this story, it was definitely different from what I usually read. I love watching ghost hunting shows on tv, so why not combine it with some sexy time.

The story kept me interested from start to finish. I couldn't wait to see what evidence they would find next, the ghost hunting was exciting.

.. Beware of Spoilers ...

I was disappointed in a few things though. All throughout the story the author was mentioning Mack, Brea's number one fan, but nothing ever comes of it. Just the obsessive messages and care packages... it leads you to believe there will be some kind of interaction with him, but nothing. Maybe it's addressed in the second book?
I also was bothered by all the evidence they found of a violent spirit that could actually harm them, and nothing was mentioned about trying to do something about it. No one seemed worried at all that Brea had a concussion due to a ghost.
I don't want to sound picky, but I felt like that relationship went way too fast as well. I mean, she went from not knowing how to people, to banging 4 dudes in a matter of days, and no hint of apprehension or nervousness along the way. That should have been a larger part of the plot in my opinion.

It was a great story, I just think it could have been better with a few adjustments.

Looooooooooved it.

Paranormal. Cosy Mystery feel. Rom-Com. Rh. 3 guys. Brea travels around in her retro RV getting content for her Spirt Vlog channel. She investigates ghost activity. She gets invited to this exclusive contest with 3 other ghost Investigating teams. One being a rival team named the Ghost Dudes. *happy sigh* what can I say about this book other than OMG you should totally read it, then read it again? It's all just so good, the characters are well developed, the story is very interesting, the guys are all the things! Really just read it, you'll probably love it. It is a series just fyi.

I super loved this book. Not normally my style of story but totally drew me in and had be totally hooked! It was well written in a way that I was holding my breath and sitting on the edge of my seat! Lovely the bits of suspense and drama.
There were a few scenes that I was expecting more to come out of, like more shown on video footage after she blacked out or further explanation to the purpose of her being the targeted one with the spirits. But other than that I have nothing bad to say!
Loved the character development and the individual connections they all had. You felt as at ease with their relationship as they seemed to be.
I’ll definitely be looking forward to the next one!

Loved it. I think I've only read one of her other books and didn't like it very much, but this one?

It was a mix of Sam & Colby with Ghost Adventures (Zack).

Brea is a ghost hunter. Asked to find ghost proofs into a hotel, she is joined by 3 other teams, as the owner of the hotel is giving a cash prize to the team that finds more proofs. Her arch-nemesis group is there to, but what neither of them thought was to fall for the other.

I thought it was going to be similar to Supernatural, and I was really excited for it, but there was no ghost mystery solving. Brea and her guys just literally find proofs of a ghost's presence and that's it.

A bit disappointed

-- SPOILERS BELOW --
I've been trying to find a ghostly read and this one started out pretty promising and even had a competition happening. I was a bit let down because it kinda went down to Brea and the Ghost Dudes (not too surprising) but what I was really disappointed in was the insta lust (she does sleep with everyone one day after another and she didnt have trouble with it and neither did they. Now, that sounds bad but it just happened without any real emotions driving it, just like that's what the author wanted to happen. I essentially didn't get the relationship feels or connection (except for maybe initially Ryker) and the transitions to steamy times didn't necessarily flow naturally and would just all of a sudden be happening. Also, with how crappy Lincoln was to her and not only was his change of heart fast, he was also forgiven lightning fast. So did not feel forgiveness was earned after his repeatedly bad trolling behavior that had to have at least hurt her business some. Anywho, I love you's are said before the end of book 1 and I defintely did not buy it if I wasnt even believing in the intimacy. I have other series/books I've read by this author and have really enjoyed and bought them for my personal collection, but this was too insta all around for me to enjoy even though the writing was good. So, if you don't mind insta-everything then you'll probably be fine (which is not me 😬).

This book was so much freaking fun! I have only previously read cowrites that Jarica participates in, so this was such an enjoyable experience to read one of her own books. I absolutely loved Brea and the Ghost Dudes (Ben is my #1), and had a lot of fun following along on their ghost hunting adventures. It's one of the creepier books I've read in a while, definitely had a few jumpy moments, and I think that just added to the experience.

Brea was a lovable heroine who was quirky and cute and just someone you wanted to be friends with. I also loved Lincoln and Brea's adventure from enemies-to-lovers; it's forever one of the best tropes. The guys were all so cute and had the best array of personalities. Watching them all slowly get Brea to break down her walls was just so incredibly heartwarming, and their excitement over their findings each time they had a great hunting session was so sweet and just made me want them to find all the creepy creatures even more.

I really enjoyed this one and can't wait to read the second! Any more time with this cast of characters is a win in my book!

Hauntings and hot guys

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but it did not disappoint.
This book is a Brea who is in a competition with her rivals ghost dudes to investigate a haunting. This is my first time reading a book that has this ghost element to it and I was worried as I'm not that into horror and things like that. I will tell you that it did have some parts where I was happy I had the light on. But the story outside of the ghost huntingade up for that.
I really enjoyed the MC and the fact that she could just be her weird self without being judged for it. I did feel however than some of the guys were not as distinct in personality. I would get the characters mixed up sometimes. So I'm hoping in the next one that their personalities come more out.

Overall a great read even with the ghost hunting and can't wait for the next book.

It’s rather lackluster, the characters are flat and the chemistry between them is missing. I can’t tell one man from another and their characteristics gel together. The amount of times that the narration tells instead of showing is irksome.

Potential unmet

This book started well but I felt it never really met it's potential. The romance felt rushed, fmc became a bit annoying and the ghost hunting fell a bit flat in the end.

If this isn’t the perfect romance spooky book to get you into the fall spirit then I don’t know what is. When I first came across this book on a random RH facebook group, I was immediately intrigued. I mean it consists of my two favorite things, ghost hunting and reverse harem, so how could I not love it. Now, when I went into this I expected a cute little ghost hunter romance and boy was my expectations wrong. The ghost hunting aspect of this book was scary, like I read this book before going to bed and did not sleep. I swear to god, my room was warm and when we got to a ghost investigation part, my room turned into an ice box. It was such a weird experience. I’m actually in awe of how Jarica James made the ghost investigation scenes seem so real, I swear I was right there alongside the characters. Now, Brea was an epic female lead, she was badass, funny, smart, and quirky. I could help but be drawn to her like a moth to a flame. Do I want to start a ghost hunting blog so I can be just like her, yeah I kind of do. Plus, the fact she lived in a vintage trailer and had a love for Alpacas, I mean come on that's just so cute. Now, Brea’s men, holy moly, I think I got butterflies from the first moment I met them. There was a little bit of an enemies to lovers vibe going on because Brea’s men also had a ghost hunting vlog which means that they are competitors and the boys, well really only one thought that Brea was faking all her evidence but in actuality she just attracts paranormal activity. When Brea and her men finally get together, it is like an off the charts spirit box reading. The connection they have is real and genuine and you can tell that they all love each other deeply, which makes the steamy scenes even better. OMG, though the steamy scenes are out of this world, I totally needed to fan myself multiple times. This book was everything I thought it would be and more, it was dear I say it my perfect book. It had all my favorite things in one book. If you are looking for a book that has swoon worthy RH romance scenes, chilling ghost scenes, plus steamy scenes then I cannot recommend this book enough. I just know that after reading this book, I’m just going to fly through the other books in the series. I'm so excited to read more about Brea and her men on their next ghost hunting adventures.

This book was incredibly exciting and I can’t wait to start on the next one right away.

This is a ghost hunting reverse harem. 4 guys and 1 woman. The FMC and the group of guys are rival ghost hunting vloggers. Lincoln (the head MC) has this whole enemies to lovers thing going on with our FMC because he believes she’s a fraud (she’s not). He quickly learns how wrong he was once they are working at the same haunted place. The other men in the group are friendly and quite taken by the FMC quickly.

They all have their own personalities and characteristics but the guys kinda blur together at times too. There aren’t a ton of details to give us a clear picture of what they look like but I used my own imagination to fill in the blanks. One of the guys does have a dad bod so that was nice.

The whole angsty enemies thing with Lincoln is resolved pretty quickly and once he apologizes they immediately jump into a relationship which I didn’t like because it was a little too neat and felt like a cop out.

Also, the spice sucks. There’s plenty of open door scenes and even a group scene where she’s blindfolded but every scene is just way too quick and minimal description. It’s definitely not sexy or hot.

So for those two above reasons I knocked off a star. But the creepy ghost interactions were actually terrifying for me. I start reading this at night and had to talk myself into getting up to go to the bathroom because I was spooked so bad. I got chills a bunch and even had scared tears in my eyes.

Possible spoilers below:

The ending when the investigation wrapped up annoyed me because the spirits on audio were begging for help and to be let free from the evil serial killer ghost but the hunters didn’t do a damn thing to help. Didn’t even think about helping.

The plot is spectacular and the spookiness has me hooked for more. The spice and relationships just need more work.

Shook! This book knocked me offbeat! Wow! While it’s quite the spooky read, I binged read this book so fast! Partly because it kept me awake and let me tell you, reading a ghost story at night is not recommended! Lol Regardless, I love Jare’s books!

This is a paranormal reverse harem with Brea and her Ghost Dudes!
Lincoln, Ethan, Ben, and Ryker are said dudes and they are in competition with Brea at the Finley Lodge. While Lincoln was an asshat right off the dickpickle, the others were not. I was immediately drawn to Ethan and Ryker, which is so off the norm for me bc the broody one always wins me over but there was just something about Snack Man & Lover that got me!

They, or should I say Brea, goes through quite the ordeal during their investigations! Brea is one strong ghost hunter, to be investigating alone, I mean I had chills 80% of the time. I was so impressed with how she went through everything and was just like “oh that’s a normal day”! But I also loved that she learned to lean on the guys, especially after being alone so long. Their group dynamic is perfect! They get along so well and they barely knew each other!

I definitely want to read the rest of the series once my nerves settle! Lol I highly recommend it if you love spooky stories mixed with humor! The banter between everyone was hilarious!

Fun with ghost hunters 👻

I like this book. It's a paranormal, reverse harem romance with a mystery, lots of action, ghosts, and steamy goodness. There's a ton of laugh out loud moments, as well as a few scary ones. I enjoyed how the story centers around the ghost hunting and the main characters' relationships. I just wish there was more closure at the ending.*

I especially like how the friendships between the guys are shown. While the Ghost Dudes are good friends, they're not blindly loyal. They balance each other, and help Lincoln pull his head out of his butt. I wish there was more interaction between the guys, but since the female main character is narrating, that could be hard to arrange.

I also enjoyed all the jaunts into the town, the food, and the snacks. I think the details of the places and activities made this book feel more realistic.

*The ending was a bit disappointing with leaving all those trapped ghosts without anyone trying to help them. Why did the homeless guy get so much sympathy and assistance, but the tortured spirits were left hanging? Also, what is the deal with the super fan/potential stalker?

Tons of typos and occasionally the verb tenses go back and forth. Sometimes it was distracting.

I'm so disappointed. It starts off strong but takes a turn to caring more about her developing relationships and what she had for lunch than fleshing out the actual ghost story. The author really could have benefited from a good editor. The amount of times they keep pointing out that the fmc is "weird" and "quirky" (their words) quickly got on my nerves. Also, the focus on what the fmc eats was bizarre. The author describes EVERY meal. And some writing was just plain confusing. At one point, a very minor side character has her name changed between Andrea/Angela.

The whole thing just feels very amateur. Then there's the insta love and immediate resolutions to problems. This story just lacks depth. I don't get immersed or attached to the characters. I'm actually going to dnf at 77% because I saw a spoiler that mentioned the ghost story has NO RESOLUTION?!? SERIOUSLY?! The investigation now just feels like a side plot to the smut so the author can claim it's "not just smut". There was so much potential with this story. A RH paranormal investigation ghost series? Should've been amazing.

Fun book, and I'm glad to find a book in the RH genre right now that isn't a bully or academy story. It's certainly not perfect, and my rating may be a bit padded since it definitely stands out from everything else coming out right now, but I'm okay with that.

There is some heavy foreshadowing for upcoming books, so we'll see what happens with Mack. FMC is definitely a special snowflake; I assume we'll find out more with regards to spirits' attraction to her (at least I hope so) in later books. Relationship development feels a little too quick for a contemporary RH, but it still works overall.

Fast paced romance 3.5 stars

Brea is an independent woman who has taken control of her life. She has her own vlog that is flourishing, but with popularity comes judgement & enemies. She gets invited to a competition along side her rivals. When she meets the rival team she instantly becomes enamored with them, including the aloof and rude Lincoln, and their relationship moves quickly. I love how none of them judge each other’s quirks and they balance each other out. There is more of a storyline to this book than any I’ve read before, the romance is just a plus. That said there are some unanswered questions at the end of this book. Like, who is this #1 fan that Brea has, and why is he suddenly sending her tens of messages a day?

Good but could be better

I loved the idea behind this book: badass female ghost hunter who meets male ghost hunters and they work together. I also love ghost books and reverse harem.

However I don’t love certain things. I didn’t like how many sex scenes there were, don’t get me wrong I’m all for it, but by the end of the book, it felt like there were more sex scenes then other ones. I also felt the author never touched on the why the main male character (Lincoln) hated the female protagonist in the first place. He just suddenly liked her at some point. I also greatly disliked the ending. They never actually helped the ghosts or learned that much about the place and the story behind it. The ending felt very rushed and inconclusive.

I love all what Jarica writes, this is again a real gem :) Surprisingly realistic - it is very easy to relate to - with a girl who can stand for herself. And if I would not love her because of this, she is into alpacas :) I liked the story, how the relationships developed (in either a good or a bad way) between the characters (it was really nice to see how the guys are coming around <3), and the whole investigation was really interesting. The story and characters are well written, the ending is not an aching cliffhanger, the scenery is detailed and exciting too. All in all a really fun and light read, however I didn't want to sleep with all the lights out afterwards :D

So good and yet..

I was going to give this 4 stars until I got to the end and I realized that there wasn't any closure for the ghosts. And I know that many paranormal investigation teams really just go to collect evidence and that's it. But there was so much evidence and it was so clear that the evil ghost was trapping all his victim ghosts there and they didn't even care. They just wanted to do their job and leave. I found it a little heartbreaking.

Also...the over use of the word "deadpannd" bothered me greatly. No one speaks in a deadpan voice that much. It felt like an amateur mistake or lazy writing.

For every fan of paranormal ghost shows and a love of nerdy and quirky heroes...

I adored this sweet ghost hunting story. It was equal parts steamy and blessedly cute. Brea in her own words finds it hard to people. She comes across as the every girl that would rather just avoid those pesky social interactions if she could. I know I can certainly relate. The guys here are sweet, nerdy, flirty and cranky... Lol. In the end, they’re all just hers, which makes for all those steamy moments. But I digress because there is real ghost hunting to be done and the viewers want answers...

English:
I'm glad I had experience playing the game Phasmophobia before I read this book. It really enhanced the spooky scenes for me because I had an easier time imaging what the ghost hunting equipment looked like. I also enjoyed the different body types/personalities the guys had.

Not bad

I got to about 88% and skipped to the end. The book didn’t really hold my interest. There were things I loved and things I didn’t. First Brea was an excellent FMC. She was quirky, independent, and consistent. The guys were much less developed and inconsistent. For example Lincoln is so protective, but never once suggests that they leave when a ghost is throwing his gf around? I also didn’t like the Insta-love vibe. They’re all throwing around the words forever and love, but have only been around each other a week. The story was definitely very interesting and a little spooky. I don’t know if I’ll continue reading.

Honestly, you will either love this read or hate it. If you are someone like me who doesn't need a lot of conflict within the harem itself than you will probably love it. (Don't get me wrong there is conflict early on, but not much carries over.)

A majority of the conflict happens within the cases themselves. If you are fans of the SyFy series Ghost Hunters or the anime Ghost Hunt than I would definitely recommend this book to you.

If I had to nitpick about anything it's the fact that when interview the unknown apparitions they ask about their death. I doubt spirits, if they exist, know they died, and I feel like that would rile them up.
