Zombies.. really? Things go from amazing to appalling for Brighton in the course of one evening. First, there’s a marriage proposal. Then, there’s a creepy thing at the edge of the woods. That’s all followed up by a dead witch who was dabbling in necromancy. More than dabbling, actually. That crazy witch was rolling around in it like a pig in mud. Unfortunately, Brighton and friends will learn the hard way how tough it is to break a dead witches spell. Panic Broom is the 5th book in the Wicked Witches of Coventry series.
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
Things are looking up for Brighton Longfield. She's had a lot to contend with since coming to Coventry. But she's confident that things are getting better. Her personal & love life are both coming along nicely, and she's made some great friends. After dealing with a witch feud, murders, a shapeshifter....what else could possibly go wrong?
Zombies. Necromancy. More murder.
Life in Coventry is definitely never boring!
Panic Broom is the 5th book in the Wicked Witches of Coventry series. The series is entertaining....a nice mix of cozy mystery, paranormal and humor. I like the characters, the setting and the plots. I needed a lighter series to enjoy, and this fits that perfectly!
I listened to the audio version of this story. The audio is just shy of 3 hours long -- a nice, quick listen! Rebecca Mitchell does a great job as narrator. All in all, an entertaining listening experience.
Sadly I have come to the end of the available audio books for this series....so switching over to ebook format. That means no more binge listening. I zipped through the first 5 books in this series within a week. The stories were fun to listen to....so I enjoyed them one after the other during my daily commute and while doing household chores. :) Slowing down now, as I can only read print/ebooks in the evening or on weekends....but that's ok!
There's also a spin-off series -- The Kitten Familiar Mysteries -- that can be read after reaching book 10 of the Wicked Witches of Coventry series (got the reading order directly from the author on her Facebook group). Can't wait to start that series too!
I really needed something fun, light and entertaining to read because 2020 is just being a real b. This series definitely fits what I was looking for!
Zombies. This one centers around zombies. Am I serious? Yep. The premise is pretty exciting, where a fairly powerful witch has been fucking around with necromancy and then is murdered right in the middle of her spell (well, shit), but that’s pretty much all that’s interesting about this. There’s a marriage proposal I saw coming from a mile away and there are some funny and cute moments, but this series is starting to go downhill. The writing and editing are getting very sloppy. I’ll keep going (for now) and see what’s next.
Synopsis: Rémy and Brighton are driving home to celebrate their engagement when they stumble upon a zombie… before they know it Coventry and the rest of the world is swarming with Zombies and the Skeenbauers and Brighton are the only ones who can stop it.
What I liked: -I’m thrilled that Rémy and Brighton are finally together and their relationship is actually healthy. Rémy treats Brighton like a fully grown person instead of treating her like a child he’s babysitting like Thorn did. -I’m loving Annika with Brody as well although there is way less of Brody this novel than I would like. -I’m also enjoying how the Skeenbauer witches have mostly accepted Brighton and Rémy and are helping them to battle a bigger outside force. -I love Merri, but I know there is some weird plot going on with him. It’s really intriguing and I want to get more details.
What I didn’t like: -There’s a six month time jump between the last book and this one. In the opening scene Rémy is proposing to Brighton and I was so confused I had to check to make sure I was listening to the right book. I feel like we missed the entire time of them dating and I don’t like that the books completely gloss over that when I had to suffer through Brighton dating Thorn for 4 books straight. -The zombie plot seems a little… far fetched? I know it’s a story about witches and I’m all for willing suspension of disbelief and all that, but I don’t really understand why there were so many zombies. I get that one of the witches went evil and started messing around with necromancy, but how did we get a global zombie apocalypse out of that when she died, it just doesn’t fully compute in my brain.
Final Thoughts: This book feels like it is building up to something big - it ends on a massive cliffhanger with a lot of loose ends. I’m curious to see where it’s going to go, but I felt like this book was a little less pulled together than the previous book.
2.5 stars This one moved a lot faster than the last couple in this series, so maybe despite the fact that there are zombies (not a fan) in it, I liked it a little better. I also figured out why the main characters have been rubbing me the wrong way. They are all in their mid-upper 20s, but Brighton, Remy & Annika all act & think like they are 15/16 which is probably why I haven't been thrilled with this series since the 2nd book.
When I read that it started with a proposal, I couldn't help rolling my eyes, but at least it picks up 6 months after Thorn left & she got together with Remy. I still don't like them as a couple and again they act like teenagers, not adults, so that's probably my issue.
We have had witches, shapeshifters and zombies so far and with the cliffhanger, it looks like we have some vampires coming up next. Since I have the whole set, I'll keep chugging along with it.
This book has way too many passages written in retrospective to be enjoyable. Most of the action is done and we just get to hear about it in a rushed “here’s what happened” passage: engagement, getting rid of two main characters, zombie resolution. We don’t get to read any of it as it happened.
At the end of the previous book, Brighton and Thorn have finally ended it. In spite of his original wanting things to work for them he's done the unthinkable anyway. He's not only going back to his ex-wife he's moving to the city and has a job there already. All that without mentioning one word. Goodbye and good riddance to him. It's Remy who's waiting when she arrives home after that revelation, and it's no surprise that he comforts and kisses her.
This book begins six months later as these two are on a date and when dessert comes, instead of red velvet cake, there's a red velvet box. Once she opens it Remy proposes and she runs to the restroom to call Annika, she kinda panicked. She returns and accepts the proposal and the restaurant burst into applause. Brighton is worried about Amelda's reaction to their news though Annika has said not to worry that Remy will handle her.
They are just at the town limits when they both see something but are unsure what. They followed for a bit, but they found nothing. Once back at Hangman's House there's champagne in the refrigerator, a sure sign the house approves of their engagement. Meri however has to add some snark, pointing out they just got rid of Brody (he got his own place) and now Remy would be moving in. Meri also thinks she's not giving enough time and energy searching the tunnels they found for a possible rift in the veil allowing demons through. Brighton does convince him to let her and Remy celebrate their engagement and leaves to investigate more of the tunnels.
However, it seems demons are the least of their worries at least for now, as a zombie appears on Brighton's porch. Brighton grabs breakfast for her and Meri and they go out the back and run to her car. They can't leave the zombie to wander so Meri does something to make her walk in a small circle, before they head to the courthouse to get Remy.
After luring the zombie into the garage, the three of them drive back to where Remy and Brighton had seen something the night before, and things there just seem wrong. What they find is a very dead witch, who was doing something very bad, and whom Remy is able to identify as his Aunt Margery. After taking pictures, they have to get Amelda involved. They really can't let the human authorities handle any of this, especially with the Zombies involved the publicity would be devastating.
It's still just the three of them taking care of the witch, and when Brighton goes to buy a tarp, she sees yet another zombie, she sets that one to walk in circles and returns to Remy and Meri.
They go back to the new zombie when a ghost appears in the back seat, Remy obliges her by doing something about the zombie, but Brighton does the wrong thing with the binding and now she's got this dark spell inside her that just might kill her.
A visit from Aunt Margery's specter results in a witch's contract that will remove the zombie spell after they solve her murder. No pressure.
Before they can begin investigating, they have to do something to fix Brighton's zombie tendencies. Ruby's Apothecary doesn't have what they need, but Remy's Aunt Gretchen is there and gives them the Mullein she purchased to help Brighton. Oh, and put Margery in the crypt as well.
They enlist Annika and Brody to help both with finding things to help Brighton and the investigation. They don't have much Mullein and they have to solve this quickly while the rest of the Coven works on controlling the zombie problem, which extends outside of Coventry.
There are plenty of twists in this book as they solve the murder, but seriously the cliffhanger ending left me speechless.
More than ever I'm glad this is the boxset, so I won't have to wait to know more.
Remy just asked Brighton to marry him and, without answering him, she ran into the bathroom to call Annika and tell her the news and to verify that a Tuttlesmith witch has never yet married a Skeenbauer witch! When Annika told her to go back and say “yes” to Remy, she found him calm – because, as she guessed, Annika had texted him Brighton was on the way back and everything was fine.
As they drove home, they both saw something in the dark. They parked the car and tried to find what they thought could have been a person, but with no luck. The next morning, Brighton heard something thump on the porch and fingers scratching along the windows. Meri, her familiar, refused to go out and check what it was. So Brighton had to go. Meri reminded her to just look out the window rather than open the door she quickly slammed shut and locked. At the window a gray zombie woman ran her nails down the glass and banged into it! They drove to get Remy so he could help decide what to do, and they locked the zombie in Brighton’s garage. As soon as they drove back to the woods where they had first seen the zombie, they felt something like black magic and demonic energy mixed with something human. They were going to need help from the Skeenbauer elders! They would ask Annika to have Amelda call together the Circle.
Before they left the woods, Brighton felt pulled to go in deeper. They found a clearing and the smell of sulfur surrounding them with an overwhelming feeling of total hopelessness. As they turned away, Brighton spotted the body of a dead witch dressed in a long black ceremonial robe, surrounded by a pentagram of old human bones, her cauldron and candles knocked all over the ground. Brighton couldn’t seem to approach, but Remy and Meri went over to see if they knew her. It was Remy’s Aunt Margery, and it looked like she was dabbling in necromancy – and she would have needed a demon or probably several for such a powerful thing as bringing her dead husband back to life! But something had gone wrong! Aunt Margery had been stabbed with a ceremonial knife, so it wasn’t the demons who killed her. Was the entire town of Coventry now in danger from something or someone? Had she brought back more than the one zombie they found? The witches will have to keep the humans from finding out the truth – will they assume a Zombie Apocalypse?
This is the next adventure in the Wicked Witches of Coventry books, as Brighton always seems right in the middle of disaster! This time the murder is one of the witches, Remy’s Aunt Margery, in fact! Grab your copy and try to solve the mystery with Brighton and the gang! They have much to deal with this time! The characters are well-presented and many are familiar by now. The action never stops as the story line races through to the conclusion. Make sure you stay with them for the breathtaking journey!
Good story with a good cliffhanger. Clearly this isn't a one book situation as now the tale has progressed into more than just figuring out the murderer. And boy is figuring out the murderer hard as the story doesn't give up easy clues. The entire book is also different than most cozy witch mysteries I have read. I definitely need to jump to the next book to see what happens next in this zombie apocalypse.
However, the book feels more rushed than usual. The book is definitely shorter than the others, too. Also, with all the chaos and worry, it sure seems like the zombies are mostly elsewhere and not too much in the way of solving the death of Aunt Margery and the issue of the curse.
Other issues:
1. Brighton questions how the coven will be able to help if they don't know what is going on. No one says the coven won't know anything. Amelda even originally plans to get the elders together until Brighton volunteers herself, Remy, and Annika. The only thing stated is getting as few people as possible involved, which isn't saying no one will know. 2. Remy puts on the necromancy amulet, but then later Brighton asks Remy to put on the amulet. Remy says he will later. It is never shown that he takes it off or isn't wearing it, though. 3. It takes until the end of book 5 of Wicked Witches of Coventry to learn there are vampires? I guess if there are shifters and zombies there are vampires, too. I can see this as a shocking surprise, though, for those who haven't started with Familiar Kitten Mysteries, where vampires (although not shifters) come up in the middle of book 1. Zombies is discussed at the start of book 1 of Familiar Kitten Mysteries. Also, shifters is easier to accept as it is eased into the story and is more believable in a world of witches. Zombies are easy, too, because of necromancy. Vampires just come out of the blue in both series. 4. Some areas I have no clue who is speaking. 5. A repeated phrase, although in a different way. “You guys, there could be billions. We don’t know yet if this is something happening in Coventry or the whole world. Or we don’t know if it’s just happening in Coventry, but it will spread. 6. Typos
OH my... This book start to end was such an unputdownable ride full of crazy action, dramatic twists and adventure that will have you on your toes.
I was wide-eyed throughout the book, so freaked out, not knowing what would happen next or how would they come out of this.. Oh my... Not a single dull moment.
So now that my sweeties are finally together, AHH... I can't believe Brighton and Remy together, makes me so happy to see them all lovey dovey and be happy together.
But a storm is coming towards them when they realize a dangerous curse of an unalived witch is raising zombies in the town of coventry and soon spreading far and wide.
Now Remy, Annika, Brighton and Meri have to race against time, figure out who unalived the witch relative of Remy's and find out a way to stop this massive damage.
Wow... This one definitely was a non stop one and our gang are amazing as they try to swim their way through hidden tunnels, dark magic, secrets, house traps and zombies coming from everywhere and if that wasn't enough, Brighton finds herself in much more darker waters.
That freaking cliffy came out of nowhere and what the heck... I can't wait to dive into the next one. Loved this one. ❤️❤️❤️
What is going on in Coventry? On the night that should be full of magic for Brighton (she was proposed to) something odd and creepy is at the edge of the woods. They soon discover a dead witch that was dabbling in necromancy to try and bring her dead husband back to life before someone killed her during the ritual. Now Brighton and her friends will put their lives in danger trying to break the dead witches spell to bring normalcy back to Coventry. But is it too late and is one of them caught in the spell?
I normally don’t like mysteries that are left with a cliffhanger, but I enjoy this series so much, that I don’t mind that I have to read the next book to find out what happens. While the dead witch’s mystery is resolved, other things occurred to one of the main characters, but I am not going to spoil that.
If you enjoy paranormal mysteries, but on the cozy side with no guts and gore, then this series is one for you. It is written with some wit, lots of adventure, suspense, and mystery, and has characters that you care about and can’t help root for to find happy endings.

Oh my goodness....loved this story line.. Not going to give away the beginning...because I hate when I read a review before I read the book and the reviewer has given away some of the storyline... So Brighton has news to share with everyone in this story but she is also into the thick of a crisis this time dealing with zombies...yes zombies. A witch is doing black magic and we all know where that can lead...this time Coventry has a zombie problem... Will Brighton, Remy and the gang from Coventry deal with the new crisis? Does the Skeenbauers & Tuttlesmiths finally become friends and work together? A fast paced story then again leaves us with another cliffhanger! Can't wait until August 13th for the next episode of the Wicked Witches of Coventry books... Thank you Sara for allowing me to receive an ARC copy...I'm so loving this series!
I have loved this series since book 1 and it just keeps getting better and better. This book does end in a cliff hanger while the others have ended with a HFN ending but always lead to another books if you wanted to continue. I can not wait until Sweep-Stakes is out. If you have not read any of the books in this series, I seriously recommend you go back to book 1 and start there.
These books are so well written and extremely entertaining. Love Love Love Remi and hope he continues to remain in this series.
Strong story line, awesome characters, fantastic description to detail, and entertaining dialogue.
Would I recommend this book? Absolutley
Would I read more from this author? Yes

I enjoyed the book because of the plot the action is very different from others in the series but I am completely confused and would love to talk to the author. The heroine in the familiar kitten series is Kinsley who is married to Thorn, lives in hangman’s House with their daughter Laney and she’s pregnant with a little boy and of course Meri, her familiar. In this book and the previous in the series the witches of Coventry, the heroine is Brighton and she lives in hangman’s house, Meri is her familiar, but Thorne has a child with another woman and moves away. Brighton becomes engaged to Remy. Maybe this is an alternate universe book or a series. As good as it was I’m not sure I want to read any more of them even though I think thorn is a jerk in both series.
Panic Room is a continuing story with a cliffhanger. I've been reading the series and it's very entertaining. I can't wait to read how they get out of this escapade with the zombies, but I have to wait til the next book. Miri the cat/familiar almost steals the story with his antics. He is surely if he misses his bacon for breakfast, but he's a huge help to Brighton, his witch. I love his character. Somehow I missed the fourth book in the series, but it's all on Kindle Unlimited, so all is not lost. I will go back and read that one while I'm waiting for the last one to come out. Highly recommend this series.

Really hate it when a story ends on a cliffhanger and you have to wait for the next book! Zombies, murder, dead witches and necromancy. When she and Remy see the zombies and the dead body of his aunt, the race is on to find the solution. The only problem is that raising the zombies and being murdered at the crucial time means that they have to find the murderer before the spell will end. With magical traps, more and more zombies rising, her being infected, her new engagement seems a long way off and all the ingredients they need for counter spells have been sold out. Who is the murderer? Will the spell end once the murderer is caught? Will the magic infecting her disappear or will it be strengthened?
Finally Remy and Brighton find their way together. And naturally she runs to the ladies to call Annika before she remembers she has yet to say yes. Typical for Brighton/ and for the pair of them.
They seem to be on the verge of starting their lives together when the latest disaster leaves Brighton circling death again.
Brighton needs more than her friends and more than their family this time.
Love the story. Love the KU part. Hating waiting to find out what happens next!
If you are a fan of small town and paranormal mysteries, this is an addicting series to get hooked on!

A lot has happened since the last book and Brighton has her hands full with not only her good news but the influx of ..Zombies!! I really liked how we got an answer to something brought up in previous books and it was very interesting seeing how the Skeenbauer witches react to Brighton needing help. Can the war between the Tuttlesmith and Skeenbauer families finally be over or is this just a truce while they try and work out how to stop the horde?! Another great addition to the series and can not wait to see whats next for Remy and Brighton.

I hate cliffhangers! This book ends on a cliffhanger that was completely unexpected and of course, you know, risks everything.
However on the plus side this edition of the series was one of the best yet. Whilst I am disappointed that we have missed the whole of Brighton and Remy's relationship from the ending of the last book where Brighton splits with Thorn and goes home to find Remy on her doorstep waiting for her to 6 months later and their relationship already cemented. I did love the dynamic between them better.
So whilst before the books were a cozy 3* it could have been a 4*. But then. A cliffhanger. SMH
When I started reading this book I thought I had missed a book as it starts 6 months after the previous book. Remy proposes to Brighton and she says yes. I felt there should have been a lead up towards this moment rather than starting from it and then explaining what had happened in the 6 months leading up to that moment. The book deals with zombies and black magic. Brighton life is in danger in this book. The book ends on a cliff hanger and read very much like a novella rather than a full length book. It finished very quickly. Will have to read the next book to find out of Brighton gets saved or not.
The more zombies appear. They all come from a spell used by a witch. A witch who happens to be dead.
Worse yet: the zombies are spreading out, going into the non-witch portions of the country
So, all she and Remy have to do is stop the zombie apocalypse, figure out how to handle the problem with the dead, rather crazy, witch and look forward to their marriage. The zombie aspect gives this particular story a certain extra that makes is rather funny. An enjoyable story..
This is a busy time for Brighton, a wedding proposal, zombies, and a dead witch. So much to do and so little time. If they don’t solve the murder, the zombies won’t go away. Brighton has been infected and if they don’t find a cure, she will be a zombie.
This is a great paranormal cozy mystery full of kooky characters in small town full of witches. I really enjoyed the mystery and the creative personalities that are in the involved in solving the mystery. I found the storyline flowed smoothly and quickly, full of action and suspects, clues and magic. I look forward to the next adventure.
Finally, a Tuttlesmith and a Skeenbauer will be united in marriage. Will the binding of the two powerful witch families bring peace to the town of Coventry. Apparently not since a zombie apocalypse has started. Brighton is in danger and Remy does all he can to keep her safe, but is it enough? Meri is such a funny familiar he steals the show throughout the series. Really enjoy this series and cannot wait to see how the cliff-hanger is resolved in the next book.
I love how this book began. It was great to see that 6 months after the previous book left off that our beloved characters have moved on and are changing their paths in life. This book was the blended mix of a PG version of any zombie apocalypse movie/book with the witches in Coventry. I'm anxiously awaiting the next next book to see how our beloved characters have faired.

6,liked it all, everyone would like this series, enjoy the interactions of the main chractets, enjoyed the direction it went, relaxing and enjoyable to read
Really like the series so far like the direction that she's going with Remy and her friendships with the younger witches from the other
This entire series has been great! I adore the lead character she is funny, smart, brave, caring & loyal. I actually enjoy most of the main characters when they are working all together to solve the current mystery. They make you laugh, cry, frustrated and every other emotion only a truly good book can make you feel. I recommend every book in this series.
An entertaining witchy cozy mystery series with a great cast of characters. A young lady inherits her great aunts house and then finds out she’s a witch. Follow along as her and her friends stumble over mysteries and mayhem and murder and try and solve it. Very entertaining and at times funny witchy cozy mystery urban fantasy series. Check it out
Brighton is ecstatic. Six months (or so) after the last book and she's dating the man of her dreams, in fact, he's just proposed. Too bad there are shenanigans afoot. Well, if you can classify zombies as shenanigans. It seems that her fiance's family has been dabbling in dark magics and have caused a worldwide epidemic (is that the word for zombies?). This book, like the others in this series, is short so it's light on story and character development but it's pretty fluffy and fast to read.
So I thought I initially skipped a book. The previous book ended nicely with Brighton starting a relationship with Remy. And this book within the first few pages she was engaged six months later....slow your roll Sara Bourgeois this isn’t a Disney movie.
Other then that it was a great book. I really enjoy this series. Even though I was on team #hotcop 🚔 not on team #Remy.
I'm not a fan of zombie apocalypse stories, but reading this one during the early days of covid-19 I found myself marking passages such as, "People were dying because they thought the whole thing was a joke. They kept shopping or going to work even after being warned." My only frustration was that the book ended on a major cliffhanger
