Wishful #10

You Were Meant for Me

Rate this book
An accidental pregnancy romance for Wishful's most eligible bachelor

"Just a fling," she said…

Tess Peyton wanted to do something fun and reckless and wholly out of character. A steamy weekend with a Scotsman seems like a plan. When her Scotsman turns out to be a good Southern boy, that's a minor deviation. Then one night turns to two, two turns to more, and suddenly she knows she's in way over her head. This is why one should always stick to the plan.

"Bachelor for life," he said...

But that was before all of Mitch Campbell's friends, cousins, and even his little sister started pairing off like someone was building an ark. No wonder he fell, and fell hard, for his "no attachments, no last names" European fling. And just when he's ready to tell the woman of his dreams that he wants to change that arrangement, she disappears, leaving him with no means of tracking her down, and a big ol' hole in his heart.

And then Fate stepped in...

Because, guess what? The guy Tess ran out on in Edinburgh shows up at family dinner. He's her dad's new wife's brother's son. What does that make them? It makes them "on again," according to Mitch and the explosive chemistry between them. Tess feels it too, along with a side of awkward, continued uncertainty, and some kind of stomach virus that seems to bother her most in the mornings…

After a few weeks away – I’m back in Wishful!!!! This is the 10th book in Kait Nolan’s Wishful series. While Mitch & Tess have appeared or been mentioned a few times in other books, you could listen to this on it’s own. However, you might enjoy this more after listening to To Get Me To You and See You Again.

Dear Kait Nolan – THANK YOU! There are few things in romance that drive me crazier than a “surprise pregnancy” where the couple took no measures to prevent conception. I love that Mitch & Tess are surprised because it’s actually a surprise.

As with all of Nolan’s books this is a great mix of slightly steamy romance and small town craziness this time with a vacation fling that becomes something more. I enjoyed Mitch & Tess as “opposites attract” characters who are willing to work at understanding where the other is coming from even if it takes them a bit to get there.

The epilogue is an adorable and hilarious HEA for Tess & Mitch. I’m on to Ryan & Hannah’s book, A Lot Like Christmas.

Narration:
Amy McFadden gives another delightful performance here. I always appreciate how she manages to give so. many. characters. their own unique voices. It’s just such a fun listen.

I found her tendency to run without communicating whenever she got scared very tiring. Glad she finally got over it before the book ended. I liked him, but wished he were better at communicating too. Conflicts caused by poor communication are not enjoyable.

Other than the slightly ridiculous ending where she gets married while in labor, this was sweet and realistic. Our MCs had genuine hang ups and growth out of those hang ups that seemed plausible, like something that would actually happen IRL. That's always my biggest issue with contemporaries- so rarely do they actually seem like something that would really happen!

Having read - or listened to - just about all of the books in Kait Nolan’s Wishful series, it’s good to know I’ll get a nice, solid story about the charming characters I’ve gotten to know in passing during other books. I always enjoy my visits to Wishful, Mississippi.

In You Were Meant For Me, we meet Tess Peyton, whose father has recently married Sandy Crawford, mayor of the town of Wishful. After a busy six months working for her father’s company in London, the well-organized and highly-planned Tess takes a trip to Scotland where she meets and falls in love with Mitch during a whirlwind week together. When she started thinking she wanted more than a vacation fling, she skipped out on Mitch early in the morning without saying goodbye.

Mitch Campbell is Wishful’s town playboy who flirts like his life depends on it and dates like it’s going out of style. But the woman he met in Scotland had him rethinking his life choices, so when she leaves him in Scotland without a word he’s forced to return home feeling empty and bereft.

It’s hard to say who is more shocked when Tess shows up at a family dinner in Wishful. Mitch is thrilled with the second chance. Tess...not so much. Because of goofy reasons (which basically boils down to the author needing more drama for the plot) they decide not to tell anyone about meeting in Scotland. Then they learn their tryst resulted in an unexpected souvenir which will make an entrance into the world in about nine months.

I’m basically a sucker for secret/surprise baby stories, which is why I picked this book up even though I was in the middle of another book I was enjoying. This was another solid story for the series, and didn’t have the main issue I’ve had with most of the other stories - which is that the main problem between the couples is a miscommunication or a big misunderstanding. Yes, these stories all tend to follow the same general plotline. But overall, everything about the townspeople and the characters is just so charming I don’t really care.

What keeps me from really liking these stories is that I’ve kinda gotten over the self-inflicted conflicts. I get that people have baggage and it’s sometimes a roadblock to happiness. But if the main problems are caused by what’s going on in a character’s head, I’m not as interested in seeing things get worked out. For this story, play up the geographical compatibility issue, or the fact that they are expecting a child and didn’t really know each other, instead of having all the problems be in the heroine’s head. Thankfully, entertaining interactions with other beloved characters were enough to balance out all the repetitive, internal, woe-is-me monologues and keep the story pace moving in the right direction.

Despite the issues I have with this story (and the author) I will still keep reading this series and the spin-offs. Sometimes it’s nice to read a good, solid story, and Ms. Nolan delivers that just about every time.

First thing I want to say is would the Campbell clan please adopt me? They are amazing, supportive, and all around wonderful. Okay, on with the review.

You Were Meant for Me is another delightful entry in a charming series. This volume finds Tess Payton and Mitch Campbell paired up in Wishful. It’s sweet and hot (not too much detail there, but enough), tender and warm, and all around a book that will leave you feeling happy and protected.

Tess and Mitch do their best to keep their romance, which started in Scotland, secret from their family and friends in Wishful, until the secret gets out. Then the clan joins together to help the lovebirds work through their problems and find a way to move on together. The ending will have you laughing and crying at the same time.

My one complaint about this book is that Tess, who grew up in Colorado, sounds, in my reader’s internal ear, just as southern as any Mississippi native. It’s not a big thing, but it would occasionally pull me out of the story.

I received an advanced copy of this book as a gift from the author. There were a few small typographical and other errors, but I suspect they were corrected in final editing. They did nothing to deter my enjoyment of this story. I hope that the Wishful series goes on forever.

I thank the author for her generosity in sharing this book with me. However, her generosity had no impact on this review. All opinions voiced in this review express my true feelings and reactions about this book. I loved it!

I think Kait Nolan has spoiled us with the Wishful books. Everyone is full of love and emotion, but not one of them had ever been written about Tess. I think because the emotion Tess felt almost duplicated mine from years ago, I was able to relate to the fear and memories that drove her.

If you can't relate to emotions taking over control, you will probably not like Tess. I liked her because I could relate to 1. How her memories were controlling her actions, 2. How her emotions were just too strong to make anything she did easy, and 3. Because she was pregnant and I think most of us know what those hormones will do to us.

I fell instantly in love with Mitch. And I liked Tess, but I noticed that it took me a while to understand her. And I absolutely love Trey and Sandy from a previous book, so I was thrilled to see we were reading about them also.

As usual the pacing is spot on. I know that some people won't like Tess, and I get it, reading isn't objective for many people. It is subjective and your own likes and dislikes will color what you read. In my case, I try to read with an objective mind first, so my conclusions can be completely different from anyone elses.

The only conclusion I'm drawing right now is that I think I have two more Kait Nolans' sitting on my Kindle, so I'd better get my butt in gear. Thank you Kait for yet another enjoyable book.

Tess Peyton has tried her whole life to be the perfect daughter. After her parents divorced ten years ago, she felt responsible, as they'd gotten married when her mother became pregnant with her. She's gone into the family business, and most recently, has been in London overseeing a project. While there she took an uncharacteristic break in Scotland. While there she had a very uncharacteristic week long fling with an American. The one night stand turned into a week, but when Tess felt herself getting attached, she left in the night without revealing her real name. Now on her way to Mississippi to meet up with her newly remarried father in Wishful, she's hoping to wow him into letting her start up a new aspect of the business. What she doesn't expect is to find is her fling, Mitch Campbell, at the family dinner in her honor, nor to discover her new step-mother is his aunt. The two manage to hide their previous acquaintance for a while, but when the nausea Tess thought was jet lag, turns out to be morning sickness, the truth eventually comes out. Tess has a variety of hang-ups to get over before they get their HEA, but they do.

I love the 'Wishful Romance' series by Kait Nolan. If you love small town warmth, this is for you.

I really thought when Tess moved in with Mitchell, all of the wheels were in motion. He wanted her with him, in every aspect of life. She wanted the same thing

"There's no time like the present."

Sometimes secrets can turn out really bad. I could only imagine Tess and Mitch keeping the secret that they met in Scotland, only for their cover to be exposed when her father hears she is pregnant when she is leaning over the commode before the family is ready to sit down to dinner.

When Mitch led Tess down the trail and into the trees that flanked the bank along river...they stopped aways after they started walking, leaving the trail to stare over the water, Mitch gets down on one knee and proposes only for Tess to say "NO." What...!

Only when she is ready to deliver their baby does she say, "I want to get married now," meaning they are saying their vows in between contractions as their baby girl Vivi Anne Cambell comes into the world.

This book kept me in suspense from beginning to the end. Check out Wishful Romance (12 book series) Kindle Edition. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy and happy reading.

MItch and Tess are probably my favorite couple in Wishful, which is saying something since I have met a couple in this series I didn’t like!
Beyond the surprise baby storyline, which can be hit or miss for me in general, I love the idea of two people meeting while on vacation and experiencing that instant click. For each of them, it wasn’t just a week long fling, but something meaningful that left them both sad and a bit heartbroken.
I didn’t appreciate how the family treated Mitch at first, warning him off Tess like they did. They pigeonholed him into the playboy role and wouldn’t let him grow. Regarding Tess’s relationship with her parents, while their unsuccessful marriage soured her in the institution and love in general, I was happy to see the affection both had for her.
Like all books in this series, each can be read as a stand-alone without the reader missing out on anything. I loved it!

You Were Meant For Me is a phenomenal contemporary romance by Kait Nolan. Ms. Nolan has provided readers with a well-written book populated with a cast of characters you can't help but love. Tess if flying home to Denver but is making a stop in Wishful to give her father an update on the business. Mitch has been in a funk since returning from his trip to Europe. He met and fell in love with a woman and she disappeared before he could do anything about it. He's shocked to learn the woman he has been missing is the daughter of Wishful's newest resident, the man married to his aunt. Tess and Mitch's story is packed with drama, humor, spice, secrets and surprises. I loved this book from start to finish and look forward to reading my next book by Kait Nolan. You Were Meant For Me is book 10 of the Wishful Romance Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

Sexy and sweet

This is a story about a couple who meet in Scotland on a trip. Mitch and Tess have a steamy one night stand or rather week. Then go there separate ways. Mitch has regrets on not getting his mystery women’s last name as he has never had feeling for anyone like he did her.
Men while Tess is flighting to wishful to meet her father who had married his true love and start to look at taking over parts of his business. What she doesn’t expect is to run into to the sexy man from Scotland. The two re kindle there relationship but try to keep it on the down low as Tess is only planing on being in town for a week at most. That is until she finds out what happens in Scotland didn’t stay their. This is a sexy sweet story as most in this series goes the main person makes wish in town well and we find it some how finds a way to come true. I really enjoyed this story .

Mitch was told that one of these days he would topple for a woman, and he would want no one else. He had over in Edinburgh, Anna on the pub stage, one week, and then gone. He wanted a lifetime, he didn’t even have a last name. He would tell no one, in this large noisy family, the questions would never end. For Tess Anna she had money could she track him down. This ache she had, she wanted more from this stranger then a week. House full of family to welcome her home, and she hears a laugh, it couldn’t be.
If it wasn’t in her planner, then it wasn’t important, but this was. A delightful heart warming story of love coming and how it worked out.

Quickie read that I enjoyed with a hero who was all in from go. Mitch and Tess met in Scotland on vacation and their one night stand turned into a week and then Tess left without saying goodbye. Mitch returns home and the town flirt is noticably changed, pining for his lost love only to have her turn up as the stepdaughter to his beloved aunt. They pick up things where they left off and things are going well, although they have to keep things on the downlow given the complications of family but things come to a head when she finds out she's unexpectedly pregnant. Her baggage gets in the way but they do live happily ever after.

This is the story of Mitch and Tess who meet in Scotland. Tess never gave Mitch her real name and they had a week together. The week was full of fun, laughter, and lots of sex, that Mitch actually brought an engagement ring after knowing Anna (Tess) for four days. They both wanted to see each other again but had no way of finding each other, until they meet at a family dinner. It seemed that Sandy (Tess's father wife) is Mitch's aunt. They were excited to see each other and decided to keep it a secret. But fate has different ideas. The book was really good and I recommend you reading it.

Tess and Mitch have a whirlwind romance when the first meet in Scotland, for it to stay in Scotland and both believe they'll never meet again. When their families and work become intertwined in unexpected ways, Tess must learn to face fears shes been suppressing for the longest time and Mitch must accept that not everyone will immediately accept the love he is accustomed to because of his family.

In true Kait Nolan fashion, this was such a beautiful love story. The characterization was phenomenal and I thoroughly enjoyed the plot of this story. I smiled, gasped, cried, giggled, all of it. I haven't found a Nolan book that I haven't enjoyed yet!

I love all of Kait Nolan’s Wishful Series books. I like how the characters from previous books reappear, so you see how they are doing and what they are doing. I love how family pulls together to support one another. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars was that the premise was a little unbelievable that they met and fell in love in Ireland and then unbeknownst to the other, they both had connections to Wishful. I enjoyed the book and look forward to more.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

3.5 This was my first book in the “Wishful Romance” series, so I wasn’t familiar with the Campbell family. They do seem to be a loving, loyal, and power family.
An Unexpected Pregnancy theme doesn’t make my top 10 List of Favorite Plots, but this one is done better than most.
Tess and Mitch meet and have a sexy affair in Scotland. She leaves without even a goodbye to him. They meet again very unexpectedly in an awkward situation. Mitch is excited about a 2nd chance to romance Tess, even though she is not quite the fun-loving girl he remembers. She is back to her serious, professional business-minded persona. Plus, they have the added pressure of her dad and his new bride, that happens to be his aunt, to contend with, along with the meddlesome Campbells. I have to say, the ending was too sappy for me, which is why it was not a real 4 Star Rating.

Enjoyable

A brief, uncharacteristic fling for Tess in a foreign country leads to her running with no goodbyes because she feels more than she expected to, and that wasn’t part of the plan. Her regrets leave her sad and wishing she had at least gotten his last name. A once-in-a-million chance reunion occurs when they both end up in Wishful. Misunderstandings, doubt, hidden feelings and an unforeseen complication - can Tess and Mitch overcome the odds and gat their HEA? I wish this author would skip the bad language.

What happens when the guy Tess ran out on in Edinburgh shows up at a family dinner in Wishful, MS? Mitch thinks he must be the last person paired with someone, but then he sees Tess again.

With a zany, loving, crazy bunch in the supporting cast, the main couple clearly fit the picture of opposites attract. There's clearly a surprise for both of them. But what we get in every Wishful book is love, humor and support.

Cute, cute writing from Kait Nolan, award winning narration from Amy McFadden and an epilogue that is just delightful! I highly recommend!!!

There's no doubt that Kait Nolan is a talented author. She's written really well-developed characters with a plausible plot. My only hang-up is that I didn't really like Tess. I understand to a point why she reacted the way she did, but that still didn't make me more sympathetic to her. I really liked Mitch and felt he was too understanding of her and willing to make excuses for her. Sometimes I wondered what he saw in Tess. I really loved the epilogue, however. And, as always, it was nice getting reacquainted with some of the other characters who were the focus of previous books.

Mitch is the last single in the Campbell family. While on a vacation in Scotland he has a fling with a woman and falls in love. They had agreed to not share last names, she even used her middle name, Anna. At the end of the week she slips away. Heartbroken, Mitch returns home. Sometime later, the daughter, Tessa, of his Aunt Sandy’s new husband, comes to Wishfull. The daughter turns out to be Anna. What becomes of this couple? I enjoyed this read. Can two people, raised in such different environments, succeed?

Kait Nolan and the Wishful series (2 series, same wonderful characters) are fast becoming on my list of favorite authors/books. The Wishful books are centered around the small community of Wishful, a community of family, small town with hearts, and warm Southern charm. In this book fate takes a hand as two people who met in Scotland reconnect in the town of Wishful. Wonderful, warm, rich in detail and possibilities. Bravo!

Sweet small town romance.

I really enjoyed this story. Loved how quickly Tess and Mitch fell for each other. It’s cute how they act like they just met, when they meet up with their families. My heart did ache, Tess isn’t believing in them as a forever couple. Can she open up her heart? Does he truly love her? I didn’t expect to cry, loved being this emotional. Loved their happy ever after. I highly recommend this book.

Mitch and Tess had this whirlwind romance, but they still seemed so connected and had this awesome chemistry. I didn't understand why they felt the need to keep it a secret. Maybe I missed something.

I did understand Tess' hesitation after her big surprise. Communication would have resolved a lot of issues but it didn't happen that way initially. Mitch and Teas did finally reach their HEA in a rather unique way.

She does everything right never any thing to make her family name look bad. So a fling in Scotland with a local is just what she needs. A night turns into a week and she has to go home. She leaves with out a good bye. Back home she is to meet her father new wife family. Oh my goodness they just keep coming and now another one has come in all I want is to sleep. But I know that voice it can't be......but it is.

Enjoyed this short, bedtime read about two who spent a week on vacation in Scotland, virtually anonymous to one another, and then miraculously reconnect over an extended family dinner in the US within a month. Well-written, imaginative but cannot identify with the main character's thinking under the circumstances, unless emotionally affected by pregnancy hormones. However, another timely accident brings everyone together for a happily ever after......

Tess & Mitch

I love that Kait Nolan’s characters are complex, strong and well rounded. This story was s much fun and watching both of them grow and fall even more in love made it a great read. Tess’s insecurities were completely understandable and written very sympathetically. I believe every small southern town could be Wishful, the texture of town life is so well written. Another winning story, I look forward to reading more.

What an unlikely scenario for these two. They meet on vacation as a one night- four night stand. It is love at first sight for both of them. But as fate would have it she didn’t do love at first sight. What a wild crazy story about two people from different backgrounds finding each other and their happily ever after including baby drama. I really enjoyed reading their love story even if it was rocky due to misunderstandings. I want to read the rest of the series now.
