The Smart Classroom Management Way is a collection of the very best writing from ten years of Smart Classroom Management (SCM). It isn't, however, simply a random mix of popular articles. It's a comprehensive work that encompasses every principle, theme, and methodology of the SCM approach.
The book is laid out across six major areas of classroom management and includes the most pressing issues, problems, and concerns shared by all teachers. The underlying SCM themes of accountability, maturity, independence, personal responsibility, and intrinsic motivation are all there and weave their way throughout the entirety of the book. Together, they form a simple, unique, and sometimes contrarian approach to classroom management that anyone can do.
Whether you're an elementary, middle, or high school teacher, The Smart Classroom Management Way will give you the strategies, skills, and know-how to turn any group of students into the motivated, well-behaved class you love teaching.
I would give this a 2 1/2 or 3. We read this book for a book study at my school. While I don't disagree with everything in this book and it has generated some great discussion in our small group, I cannot get past the lack of any evidence for the author's classroom management tips. There were so many statements that I felt were generalizations or perhaps simply the author's opinion.
This is basically a giant compilation of the many, many articles Michael Linsin has written and posted to his blog over the years. With that said though, they are organized into categories that make for easy reading and really give you an in-depth look at his approach to classroom management. A fantastic read and resource.
This book will help steer all teachers in the right direction when it comes to how they run their classrooms. Well organized and easy to follow tips and proven methods are all in here waiting for you. I would recommend this book to any teacher wanting to improve their approach.
Wish I had read this at the beginning of this year....I will reread at the beginning of next year I have no doubt we all would have had a better year if I practiced this simple consistent method
Now I understand why so many of the things I was doing weren’t having the desired impact! I’m so excited to start the year as a defender of learning. I’m going to have a better year for sure.
If you read this book you probably feeling like something needed to change in terms of classroom management. Some of it I took with a grain of salt particularly with dealing with individual students or groups of. I did walk away with so many ideas to try when implementing a classroom management strategy for the new school year. Overall I’m very happy with having read this book and encourage others to do so as well.
