Dating: For the Block

Boyfriend or....Brother!?,/b>

Those were my options?

If the rumors were true, Grayson Levitt was the last guy on the planet I'd ever date, let alone anything else.

When I got caught in his ridiculous plans to keep 'anything else' from happening, I didn't know if I should kiss him or punch him in the throat.

What a mess!

Grayson Levitt was charming. Everyone loved him. Everyone but Mia. It wouldn't matter except they had to work together to keep the unthinkable from happening. Somehow he had to prove he wasn't the guy she thought. And if she ended up falling for him? All the better.

Can Grayson and Mia put their differences aside to put their plan into action? And were they even doing the right thing?

Rant incoming (you’ve been warned)
I really need to stop reading books that sound bad to see if they are because shocker! they generally are bad. I finished this book purely because I hate DNFing books. If I could give this book no stars I would.
To begin let’s dissect Mia’s character. She was so erratic. All the characters were. I can’t even say that they were inconsistent because I don’t know what consistent would look like with these characters. It’s like they took turns making random decisions that displayed their complete lack of external considerations. And Mia, despite the fact that she wasn’t a spoilt rich girl has that energy. I mean only someone incredibly entitled thinks it’s ok to ruin your dad’s relationship cos you’re attracted to your potential step brother. That’s so unfair on your dad. And the same goes for Grayson. Their motivations just didn’t make sense. Also why was Mia so hung up on hating Grayson? And why was there no evidence of her change of heart? You know the saying “show, don’t tell”? That’s what this book needed!
There were so many time skips that said “we got closer” or some variation of that, but you never actually saw that relationship progression. And there were so many lines that had no pay off. A game day was mentioned but it never happened. Flirting at basketball games was repeatedly brought up but there was only one basketball game written in the book and they were being awkward throughout it so no flirting.
Speaking of flirting, this might be my biggest issue with the book: Grayson’s characterisation as a charming non-player. This might be a controversial definition of player but in my opinion all it takes to be a ‘player’ is if you play with peoples emotions. And I would argue that Grayson does that. He flirts with all the girls and knows that he’s doing it despite having no intention of taking things further. One of the side characters even acknowledges that he makes girls “feel special when they aren’t to him”. But somehow that wasn’t used to condemn him, but rather support him. Yes he can’t control how other people feel but most people would agree that flirting is a sure-fire way to indicate interest and start up feelings. By flirting with all these girls Grayson is encouraging them to develop feelings for him but then he has the nerve to act surprised when that happens and girls feel like he led them on. You don’t have to make out with people to be a player.
On the topic of making out, Mia’s introduction to Grayson is him making out with a girl (whose name he couldn’t even remember!) in front of Mia’s locker. This isn’t being a player or leading her on because the kiss was soft and sweet not hot and passionate, and as everyone knows it only counts if it’s hot and passionate (read with sarcasm). In my books Grayson counts as a player cos he plays with the girls emotions by flirting with them, kissing irrelevant.
I couldn’t get into this book and honestly the plot and point of the book were unimportant in the end because they end up dating and step siblings anyway. Now excuse me while I read the rest of the books in the series because I hate myself.

Spoilers... hmm.. 🤔 there’s a lot!

https://ladiikeiii.wordpress.com/2020...

So okay! It took me a while to get back to this series. Not even sure why I never finish this series. I’ll say I am glad I got around to reading this book.

I was like, ehh! Mm. I wonder how this one is going to be. Not once was I disappointed. I will say this Mia did judge Grayson by what she heard in the bathroom. Not only that, it made him look bad because she caught him kissing the girl (lord knows I can’t remember her name🤣 starts with a K, I think 🤔) but anyway she’s not essential.

Another thing was how Mia acted like her mom didn’t care about her, and she became a little bitter. When I was like uhh girl, you had a choice to move with your mom to Alaska. She didn’t even abandon her daughter for one. She only up and decided to move based on her husband, Mark, job. That what Mia didn’t understand. Especially when they are used to living in a certain area!!!

I was glad when Mia came around and talked to her mom about it. Not only that, but both Mia and Grayson was also mean for lying to their parents about them dating so that they could break up something that good (their parents dating; each other).

It only took them later on to realize what a mistake they made, especially Grayson though Mia felt like her father will abandon her too like she assumes her mom did.

But at least everyone came around and worked things out. Grayson's mom Michelle with talking to him again. To her dating Dennis and getting married. & not only that, Grayson and Mia are getting together finally after all the judgment she put that poor boy through at least it works out in the end.

She (Mia) also got a little brother out of the deal. Her mom and her husband welcome a little boy. & for Grayson to finally talk to his (REAL) father, which I was glad too, though I felt his hesitation about seeing and meeting his dad since his father was always not there in his life and was dead beat. Funny how his father wanted to talk to him when he decided to get married, that was interesting.

Plus, at least Grayson got a (STEP-father) figure in his life always that was his basketball coach. Who fell in love with his mom!!! Though his girlfriend became his sister, which was hilarious, especially when she kept bringing it up at the end!!

i lied - THIS one’s my favourite!

on hand, it tackles a topic a bit closer to home and it showcases those emotions and trust/abandonment issues in a very really and honest way.

on the other, i loved the hate-to-love relationship going on, the pretend and the make up and the growth, and i liked that they didn’t have to resolve their issues twice - grayson was sweet and loveable and mia was a firecracker and adorable, and together they were hilarious and crackled with tension.

on a side note...
i guess that makes this three books in one day, huh?

—————— series rating:
1. Game On with the Power Forward (Piper and Drew) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
2. Partner Up with the Team Captain (Noah and Tierney) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
3. Fake Date the Coach’s Daughter (Grayson and Mia) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
4. Prom Night with my Best Friends Brother (Luke, Danni and Epilogue) ⭐️⭐️ ⭐️

sweet teen romance

Sweet, clean, funny! I was laughing so much at how Mia was just not even trying to fake the relationship. The comment about the limp hand Grayson was holding. I dont know why, but that was hilarious.
Both of them made some poor decisions that hurt their loved ones. Teens do that. But they were a great example of owning their mistakes and making it right. I admired that.

Clean- no sex, some mild swearing (mostly at the beginning, but by half way it had completely cleaned up the language). I think this whole series and the Perks series could be a great example for youth to see how to show self respect and respect for others. I find i enjoy them more the more i read from this author.

Kind of weird

But what can you do?

This book had a lot of laughs, but was also sweet. Mia and Gray just understood each other better than anyone else. They also knew how to drive the other person insane, which was entertaining! The dates were very sweet and romantic.
Overall a couple of editing errors, but still a fun read.

Great read

Loved the book and the banter between the two main characters. Also loved that the schemes and the plot weren’t crazy out there nor were they just dismissed. There was true hurt shown, a reason given and not the quick oh I forgive you let’s forget about it vibe. To sum it up it was real and I loved it!

I thought a had whiplash with all the back and forth between Mia and Grayson. Why in the world couldnt they realise they wanted to be together. I honestly thought it may next happen, bit it did and I'm happy for them.

It was pretty cute, I thought it was going to end a different way, and I know it's a book but I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. They hated each other in the beginning - well Mia hates Grayson sooooo well that's enough said about that. : )

The Eastridge Heights Basketball Players series is by far my favorite from Stephanie Street. In this particular addition we are introduced to characters that are familiar from books 1 & 2 and meet the coaches mysterious daughter who has moved back to Indiana from California. While the romance is sweet we see the protagonists bond over their shared experiences of abandonment. While far from my favorite in the series, I completely enjoyed this sweet romance.
