The Riot Brothers #4

Take the Mummy and Run: The Riot Brothers Are on a Roll

Rate this book
It's the first day of summer vacation, and life is great—until the Riot Brothers find out their cousin is coming to visit

How can you complete secret missions and make exciting things happening when you have to drag around a guest?  Luckily, it turns out Cousin Amelia is the kind of cousin they like—the fun kind! She's just as great at coming up with cool games and clever sayings as Orville and Wilbur, and she even travels with her very own (fake) pet snake.

Riot Brother Rule #24 says, "Kids who are fun can become Riot Brothers, even if they aren't brothers," so obviously Amelia is in. Together, the trio takes on all-new adventures, from starting a robot car wash to finding a lost mummy to solving mysteries . . . like why the neighborhood bully is following them around wearing aftershave.

This new hardcover edition features an updated paper over board cover (with shiny mummy bandages), plus all the new Games, Rules, and Songs—not to mention instructions on how to do the super-secret Riot Brothers handshake, so you can join in!

Amato, Mary The Riot Brothers: Take the Mummy and Run: The Riot Brothers Are On a Roll, illustrated by Ethan Long, 226 pages. Holiday House, (2009), 2017. $13. Language: G; Mature Content: G; Violence: G.

BUYING ADVISORY: EL-ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL: MEDIUM

Another three off the wall stories: Book One: The Riot Brothers Solve a Mystery, Book Two: The Riot Brothers Find a Lost Mummy (they really do!), and Book Three: The Riot Brothers Have Fun at the Water Park. Orville and Wilbur Riot aren’t excited when their mom says that their second cousin who is a GIRL is going to be staying for a few days. That is until Cousin Amelia shows up complete with her old aviator hat and a pet rubber snake. Together they solve a mystery of who keeps leaving the shed door open.

Author Mary Amato continues to charm with this fourth installment of the series. Her clever word plays and outrageous antics make the Riot brothers an irresistible pair of mischief makers. This book also includes more fun and original games; “Croak and Soak” and more. More Riot Brothers rules and more funny songs. Pretty much this book just gives you more of everything a young reader would want.

These two Riot brothers and their cousin Amelia E. Hart are a great tonic for anyone who needs to laugh. Orville and Wilbur aren't sure how things are going to go once their cousin comes for a visit, but she turns out to be the most ideal playmate they could ask for, understanding their humor and not afraid of much. In the three stories in this book, the three friends solve the mystery behind all those disappearing gloves and the open shed door on their property, have an encounter with a lost mummy, and set up their own water park after failing to earn enough money for a trip to the real thing. They'll also learn that love can bring even a bully like Goliath to his knees when he starts crushing on Amelia. Honestly, these children are absolutely too much, even coming up with interactive games such as Pufferbelly Pointer Punt and Holey Cheese-n-Peas. These food-related games will not be a hit with parents, and no one will want to see the food flying during a meal, but they are undeniably funny and fun to play. You'll need to read the book in order to learn how to do so.

The Riot Brothers are back for their 4th book, containing 3 new adventures. In this book they enlist their cousin in their wild and crazy plans and she turns out to be just as inventive as they are. They solve a mystery, rescue a mummy, and create their own water park. Along the way they come up with pithy sayings and fun games, the rules for which are included at the end. This is another fun, fast-paced adventure with occasional black and white illustrations. This good-hearted series is a lot of fun.

SERIES REVIEW:
These books are the best books for kids ages 6-10. They are funny and engrossing with characters that kids will fall in love with! My boys read all four books and loved them all. They thought they were really funny, with great illustrations and quick chapters, which helped to keep them engaged. They were constantly filling me in on what was going on in the books. I loved seeing them so interested and loved all the great conversations that came from them reading these great stories. A great Christmas gift idea!

Hey guys and girls if you like to laugh your guts out this book is for you. Why you ask is that this book was funny game to play and funny things happen in the book. This book is one of the funniest book I read because it made me laugh really hard. That is true because in the book a fake pet rat and snake in the bathroom and when their mom came in she fell in the ground and screamed. The genre of this book is fiction and adventurer because they make up every day an adventure to do with there cousin. I will give some ***Spoiler Alert*** so if you don't like when people do or have spoiler alerts you do not want to read this book review.

If you are still reading this you will be laughing because this book is about two boys that make up game and go on an adventure bi put they make it up also this time there cousin come today but they don't know if she is fun or boring. In the book there will be three parts but there will be different than the first on or the second or even the third. The books conflict is person vs person because in the first part they try to solve a mystery of some thief, the second they try to find a mummy and the last one is something else. In the fist part they find the mystery of the stolen glove and the lost cat. Then guess what the lost gloves, the person who stole them was a cat. Then the second one is about the kids try to find a mummy. Then the tire one is about they having fun in the water park. Lastly the characters are Wilbur, Orville, and there cousin named Amelia.

My favorite part of all three parts of the book is the first one because it made me laugh the most because of how the mystery ended. They had to find out who had been stealing all the gloves. Also the they had to find the neighbors cat. Guess what the person who was stealing the gloves was the cat of there neighbors. Another part that I liked was that when there cousin was three she tried to put a feather back on the pigeon. One of the things that I liked about there family is that if they make a mistake when they talk they go riot rewind.

The thing that I like about the book is that they put all the things that they invent in the book like songs and mini games, also there rules. Their are 3 songs called The New Baby Song, Water Limbo Song, and The Pointer Anthem, my favorite song is The Pointer Anthem. Also one of my favorite games is water limbo and when I was younger I actually invented the same game and I liked to play that game in my trampoline with my cousins. There are also some of there rules in the back and my favorite is when the first person wakes up they have to wake up there other person with a prank.

I will give this book a five out of five because it made me laugh a lot and made me fall of my chair when I laugh hard. I will recommend this book for kids that like to laugh there guts out of them and maybe even fall of there chair. Remember this book is about how three kids like to make up an adventure every day and they will have to complete it by the end of the day and have every day they do mission.

*** SPOILER ALERT***
Have you ever wanted to go on hilarious adventure then read this book. The genre is Fiction this book is funny and fulled with lots of adventures.

The setting of this book takes place at the Riot brothers house where they play many games. One of the many games they play is Puffers Pointers Punt. Wilbur wanted to meet there new 2nd cousin. But they were afraid that she would be boring so they made a quiz to see if she would react. They learned not to judge a person from when the were 2. The conflict is person V.S person because they are trying to think of what there cousin would be like.

I was surprised when there cousin was cool like them, because she liked to play lots of games and try new things. I wish that the author would change the part where they liked her because it would be more fun if they had a chance to change her mind about them.

I wasn't excepting for this book to be so cool. i liked this book because it has a lot of exciting adventures. Like this on adventure where they went around to see who was leaving the garage door open. they discovered it was there down the street neighbors cat. i know wasn't expecting that to be the glove thief and leaving the garage door open

Less scatological than Dav Pilkey's Captain Underpants but just as wacky, this fourth installment about Wilbur and Orville Riot is chock-full of goofy, good-natured fun. The brothers are distressed upon hearing they'll be spending the first few days of their summer vacation with their cousin Amelia. (Note the aviation themed names in the family.) All fears are put to rest, however, when they discover that she shares their wild sense of humor. When they're not cracking corny jokes, the youngsters devise boredom-busting games such as "Pufferbelly Pointer Punt," "Holey Cheese-n-Peas," and "Curse of the Mummy" (instructions, along with Riot Brother Rules and parody songs, are appended). Divided into three mini-books with several short chapters that have large type and a generous number of zany cartoon drawings, this offering should be easy for newly independent readers to digest, while the nonstop humor will grab older children. Kids are sure to enjoy the warm family dynamics between the imaginative and exuberant brothers -- along with their like-minded cousin -- and the breakneck pace of this uproariously funny book.

Orville and Wilbur Riot are two brothers who never stop. Never stop talking, stop joking, stop hatching plans. Whether it's Pufferbelly Point Punt (popcorn table hockey) for breakfast or leading a lost mummy to the Egypt room at the museum, their exuberance, admiration for one another, and manic, funny antics are a hoot to read.
Colonel Mustard and I read this one together--and couldn't stop giggling. One of our favorite parts:

"Orville starting scrubbing his toes with a toothbrush and singing.
We laughed.
Mom came in. 'Orville! It's disgusting to use your toothbrush for that.'
'I'm not using my toothbrush,' he said. 'I'm using yours. And my piggies love it!'
Mom made Orville's little piggies march over to his little piggy bank. He had to give her his own money to buy a new toothbrush."

Pure, silly fun. We're off to find Riot Brothers books #1-3.

It's summer vacation for the Riot Brothers and they are about to have a visit from a second cousin who lives in Kansas. What if she's boring and no fun at all? But never fear: Amelia is a true Riot Brother, complete with inventive games of her own and a backpack that seems to contain absolutely everything they need to have fun. She even has Goliath Hyke, neighborhood bully, on his best behavior. "Let me tell you, watching a bully run away is as beautiful as finding bugs under rocks."

"Sometimes trying to explain the concept of fun to grown-ups just doesn't pay." More fun as the trio tries to earn money by singing improvised songs (oops, did I sing the wrong thing again?), try to find a "lost mummy" at a museum exhibit and create their own water park.

This was a cute book and I think very good for the younger elementary student. I found it a bit predictable and way too energetic. I would never babysit these kids...way too hyper!

The book is actually 3 stories in one, all related but can be read individually (but still in order). A girl cousin comes to visit from Kansas...will she be fun-or boring? It's cute but I prefer some of the other books out there.

I do really like the activities in the back of the book. I can definitely see using almost all of them, though not necessarily in my library. :)

Wilbur and Orville love making up games and having an adventure each day. When they are told their cousin Amelia will be visiting them for awhile they decide to see what kind of person she is. She turns the tables on their jokes and they like her immediately. They set out to solve mysteries and have fun from the beginning to the end of this book. I had a hard time getting into this book. Maybe if I were much younger I would have enjoyed it.

this is a Riot Brothers book. there is nothing else to say about how great it is.
Although it is very different from its predecessors, probably because A) 1-3 are staged during the school year, which sometimes is an obstacle and B) 1-3 Are during the winter and C) is the most significant, because it is the presence of Amelia E. Hart. plus, this isn't just a story. it's also a game guide because of the bonus section.
