An M/M Age Play Romance.

Used to pretending he's someone he's not, twenty-one-year-old college student Micah has been hiding his true self. When a prank sends him into a bar on kink night, he finds something he never knew he needed: a world so strange, yet so alluring, where someone offers to take care of him... even though escaping all the pressure sounds too good to be true. But can he find something lasting with a Daddy who likes to pamper him? Can he trust Carter to be his first in so many ways?

At forty, Carter is a widower. Though he's past the stages of grief, he's still completely lost without his late husband. There's a hole in his life he doesn't think he'll ever fill. But Micah doesn't only fit perfectly in Carter's lap -- he's also curious about all things related to age play. Can he coax Micah out of his shell so he can become the femme, carefree, happy little he's meant to be?

R. Phoenix has an unhealthy fascination with contrasts: light and dark, heroes and villains, order and chaos. She believes that love can corrupt and power can redeem. Her muse is a sadomasochistic slave driver who thinks it's terribly amusing to give her the best ideas when she just got comfortable and warm in bed, and she passes on that torture to her readers. She also tries entirely too hard to be funny, and she mercilessly inflicts her terrible sense of humor upon anyone who speaks to her. She'd love it if you'd say hello!

The story itself wasn't bad, but the dialogues... *cringe*

I felt as if the authors were trying so hard with the dialogues, and that made the conversations these guys had awkward, stilted and just super boring. I couldn't take one more page of text messages that basically said nothing. And the way these guys talked to each other felt so emotionless to me.

Too bad, I love a good age-play book.

Wow, I am impressed. It's going to be difficult to find the right words, but first things first:
This is an age-play story that includes ABDL. We have a Daddy who lost his husband years ago and unexpectedly meets Micah, who is a very insecure boy who has been bullied a lot, has a feminine side that he is afraid to show and has to learn to be little.
And most importantly, we have alcoholism and accusations of pedophilia. And a significant age gap of at least 20 years, which is perhaps not made for everyone.
This is not a story I would recommend for someone who is not yet familiar with age-play and ABDL!

For those who have read stories by R. Phoenix before: this is not the author's usual work. This is a really sweet story full of love and romance, the complete opposite of anything I've ever read by R. Phoenix.
This story is well written, but it has its flaws, so I wouldn't recommend it for beginners. There are some tiny time jumps, only for a few days at a time, but these are annoying enough and destroy the developing atmosphere each time and as Micah has to open up to the lifestyle and learn what's involved, it also disrupts the flow of his development.
So you have to think for yourself and it differs from other books that deal with this lifestyle. It's actually very important that the beginnings of such a relationship are worked out in more detail, I think.
For me, it wasn't so dramatic here because I've read so many age-play stories in the past that were all the same. So while it felt annoying, it also felt a little refreshing that this story was told a little differently.
So, there are absolutely wonderful scenes and moments in this book.

“How did I find someone like you?” he asked softly, pressing his face against my hand. He turned his head, lips brushing my palm.
“Because I needed something wonderful in my life and you were obviously the perfect person for that.”
💗🫠💗

And it's so beautiful how Micah gradually comes out of his shell.

I cupped his face and pressed a soft kiss on his forehead. “Never be ashamed for what you like. I want to get to know the real you. It’s just the two of us. No one else needs to know,” I whispered.
Finally, he nodded. “Just us?”
“Sure, baby. It’s just us.”
💗🥰💗

And then the unthinkable happened and my heart was torn apart and I was so shocked that I almost threw up.
And even though the accusation of pedophilia actually destroys the story a bit, I was impressed that the authors had the courage to include it in the story.

All in all, the book isn't perfect but it's good and it left me a little exhausted. I will read the sequel at some point, but not right away. It doesn't have a cliffhanger and a HFN, so I'm happy for now.

I wasn't honestly expecting something spectacular when I went into this book, but it still disappointed me since I couldn't really enjoy it. The beggining was very abrupt in it's start and from there I felt like that's how a lot of scenes were. It was like we would be put into the middle of an already on going scene but never actually got the see the begining of it. It made it hard to follow at times and had me feeling very disconnected from the entire story.

“And sitting there at his table, pacifier in my mouth and homework in front of me, I found peace I rarely did.“

The age play was rather tame (at least for me) and certain scenes were not in-depth at all, which I think is essential for books like this. I need to feel the connection and the trust between the characters and I honestly don’t think I got that from Carter and Micah.

I also missed the little mindset. I don’t think he really had many scenes where he didn’t stay mostly grownup. He had little moments here and there and they got more frequent towards the end but it wasn’t full on.
I know he was new to it all (and that part was done pretty well) but I wished for more depth here too.

And of course, the accusation of pedophilia. I have never seen this in an age play setting before and I was actually a bit curious about it which is why I picked this book up in the first place. It wasn’t exactly a good experience though. I really didn’t like anything about it (which is probably the point) and it ruined the story for me too.
To be fair, after reading some reviews, I kind of expected this to happen. I still wanted to see for myself.

This was also the point where I started to skip. I lost interest in the characters and the plot and I also didn’t expect this to get any better.
I finished it though. And yeah, I don’t think I will pick up book two.

This little, (no pun intended), story could easily be used as a primer to introduce folks to a part of the BDSM lifestyle that is less familiar than what people often think of when those four letters are mentioned. A lot of people picture whips and chains...but that is a very small part of the lifestyle and is often not even found in many clubs. The story starts with a "little"...Micah... that is so new at this part of himself, that you can almost hear him squeak. He's never been exposed to the lifestyle in any way and is not even sure where he fits in... but he knows without question, that it's where he feels safe. The authors take the time to work into the characters dialog some explanations and some basic terminology along with some of the issues faced by the "little" community. Specifically, that "little" play is about being able to regress for stress relief, and to be able to play and act out childish things without fear of being judged or ridiculed. On the adult side of this equation is the "Daddy" ...in this story Carter...or sometimes there's a "Mommy". Either is the adult who is able to take care of a/his/her partner in the persona, and not an actual child. It's consensual play between two actual adults. That said, this story is a good place to start for anyone that is even a little bit curious about the "little" lifestyle. The story is not at all too overwhelming. It does, very briefly, include discussion about articles of clothing that might appeal to a "little". Not all "littles" want or need the same things. There is also a discussion about feminization, and men being comfortable using nail polish and makeup if they wish to. There is an actual older version of the "little"...known as a "middle"...an adult regressed to about the age of a 9- or 10-year-old. Along with the good things the story brings out about the lifestyle there is, unfortunately the necessity to bring out the discussion about bullies, alcoholism, being disowned by family, and what I consider one of the top things on the list... respect for the privacy and choices of others. By the end you can see a pretty good chance of many, many years of happiness and joy in Carter and Micah's future.

Little Princess.

I think this is probably a good primer for someone new to ABDL stories.
It starts with a new little who's never been exposed to the lifestyle, and takes the time to explain some basic terminology and some of the issues faced by the little community -- specifically that little play is about being able to regress for stress relief, to be able to play and act childish without being judged, and to be able to take care of a partner in that context, not an actual child.

That said, I think this is a good place to start for someone who is curious about littles. It's not too overwhelming. It does, very briefly, include discussion about diapers. There's discussion about feminization, and men being comfortable with nail polish and makeup. There's also discussion about bullies, alcoholism, being disowned by family, and respect for the privacy of others.

I hope R. Phoenix decides to write more sweet kink in the future.

Re-read 5/8-9/2020: I started the sequel and realized that I didn't remember enough of this story and needed a refresher on this one. Just as good the second time through!

original review:
This story was sweet as candy and as comforting as a tight hug...not what I typically expect from R. Phoenix! (Although I do adore what I expect from her, so it's all good!) How Micah and Carter meet is decidedly unconventional (those rotten jerks who Micah had though were his friends -- grrr!), but I don't see any chance they would have met without the trick. I can see many years of happiness and joy in their future, but I hope I can also get a few more stories from this group, especially one for Finn at Micah's college or maybe someone else in the play group -- pretty please?!

This was a fast read with some sweet moments sprinkled in, but it didn't do much for me personally.

The strongest feelings I got related to the story were of blinding rage towards Carter's parents, seriously I almost closed the book at how triggering it was for me.

The rest of the story was just ok, I liked the premise a lot, I loved the idea of a femme boy, however the story was both dragging and skipping to the past, so when we were in a cute moment it would just skip forward and in other parts it felt like the relationship wasn't progressing.

I hated how it ended with Carter's parents (I don't think that the author dealt well with the situation, it almost made it sound like he would take them back if they "came around" while he should be the one going no contact with them until they educate themselves and beg for forgiveness!

Also Micah justifies his leaving Carter because the scene with the parents made him flash back to his own relationship with his parents and we never know what happened there! It's teased multiple times in the book and we never get more information about it.

I also didn't appreciate that when Micah was helping Carter through the shit his parents put him through he kept apologising and being embarrassed about the fact that his boy was seeing him like that and that it should be the Daddy who takes care of his boy and this is never challenged! Like yeah in every day D/s, Daddy/boy relationships that's how it works but Daddies are not infallible and they need to be taken care too and in how it was written it was more as if Carter had fucked up by making Micah take care of him when it should be normal/expected in this situation!

Over all an ok read that left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth with this shitty parents situation.

3 stars. The synopsis really drew me in because I am absolute trash for this particular kink. In the end, this was just okay. It was very inconsistent and all over the place and it never felt like it knew where it wanted the story to go. The characters were alright I guess but I had a hard time connecting with them. While I do love a daddy dom with a sensitive side, I also need them to be confident and Carter wasn't that unfortunately which meant that he did absolutely nothing for me. Micah's change in character wasn't the smoothest but he had the better development between the two, no matter how forced it felt.

It seems like I'm tearing this book apart but I'm not I swear. I did think the way that they met each other was different and I enjoyed certain added aspects to their relationship because it's a kink that I've only seen in slash fan fiction so that was great. Also, Micah standing up for himself against the bullies was a great moment as well. I just wanted more than what I got but for what it is, it's decent.

As a whole, I think this book is really good. I loved the character development and how everything came together, but I also wanted to scream so often because of the pacing. Just when a chapter was getting good, it would end and the next chapter would start on a new day. It felt like nothing was ever accomplished and each time our MCs were figuring something out or exploring something new, we got second hand knowledge after the fact vs being in the moment and that was frustrating.

As an asexual, kinks really fascinate me and age play is one that intrigues me a lot. I appreciated how informative and respectful this was handled in this book and am glad to see a sequel .

Absolutely sweet...

Micah was bullied even as an adult. People he thought were friends, were not. They constantly ridiculed him and made him feel sad, alone and frustrated.
These said friends told him to meet them at a certain bar knowing full well it was a "kink" night. Micah was about to leave when he was approached by an older man (20 years his senior).
Who knew on that fateful night, Micah found everything he needed not realizing how much he needed it. Carter helped him explore sides he'd been hiding deep down.

I loved how Carter progressed extremely slow. I also loved Micah was untouched (had never really dated). I loved how strong Micah was at the end.

I always need to remind myself that there is a big difference between a daddy kink book where a sub calls his boyfriend daddy and a book with full on ABDL and age play.

I like the former. I don’t like the latter. This is a formal reminder to myself.

I’m sure this book is good, but it’s just not my kink.

Die Geschichte um Micah und Carter liest sich super und ist weder zu lang, noch langweilig.

Die Charaktere sind klasse und nicht oberflächlich.

This was my first age play and ABDL book. While it was interesting to read about this kink and I would definitely read more of this trope in the future, I didn't like the book....cuz of the writing. It was all over the place and just a mess ,tbh. So, I wasn't able to enjoy reading this as much as I would have liked

Admittedly, I haven't read all that many ABDL books, but the ones I've read have had one thing in common, they're mostly sweet and tender and It's Just Us is not an exception.

After his classmates play a prank on him and he ends at a local bar during kink night, Micah meets Carter, a 40-year-old widower, Daddy-Dom and organizer of the kink night, who entices Micah to stay and see if maybe he would be interested in this life. Micah isn't sure about it, but he's attracted to Carter and decides to give it a try with Carter. Turns out Micah and Carter have a lot of things in common and hit it off right from the start and Carter is hoping he'll be able to help Micah come out of his shell and become the boy Carter is sure he is inside.

Carter was a great Daddy, sweet and kind and wanting to help Micah be the best he could be. And Micah was adorable and I loved that he was curious enough to give things a try, even if they were out of his comfort zone.

While I loved the storyline, for the most part, there was just one thing that bothered me, the fact that Carter's parents would come into their 40-year-old son's home and just walk into the bedroom/playroom like they did. I don't care if they had a key, it just didn't sit right by me.

Other than that, the story was great and the narration was amazing, which is not surprising since Kenneth Obi always does a fantastic job bringing characters to life.

Role play for the ages with family love

Snowflake is a shelter dog awaiting adoption by someone who loves and understands him.

Micah is a college student bullied for just existing. He works in the shelter where Snowflake lives and wants to adopt him. But college dorms are not a place for large dogs.

Carter is a teacher who lost his partner. He has been trapped in an empty she'll that no one could break through until Micah stumbled into the bar hold play night for littles. He missed the private party sign on the door expectingly to meet some college "friends" there. Instead it was surprise and embarrassment until Carter can to the rescue.

From there the saving and rescuing and adopting take on a tangle of events and frequent clothes changing. Warning: Some diaper changing occurs, but only when Carter's parents walk in uninvited to create hate, havoc, yelling, threatening, and family breakdown.

But role playing love does not stop real love from mending the hurts and misunderstandings that happen in life and diapers. Cleaning up after is almost as good as the kids and make up for others. But with role playing you can do both.

So take your dog for a walk and the sit on the coach together as you quickly read through the live live of Micah and Carter. Finn and other friends make cameos. Sean and Rick set the standard for Micah. Homework gets done. Friends are made. Stay tuned for who is coming next. Could be you.

I‘m more or less new into reading books with age play and seriously I adore ADORE the way R.Phoenix and Chris McHart did it✨
It’s imo a perfect introduction in this area of kink and I would 10/10 rec this to newbies as well as ppl who just love a wholesome story with sweet and caring MCs!!

Meet cute - kink exploration - age play - daddy kink - age gap - ABDL - femme MC - exploring femininity - caring Dom - first times - (…)

TW for: grief/loss of a husband (in the past); brief situation of drinking as coping; disapproval by relatives; bullying of an MC; neglective parents (mention)

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-
Away-book like
‘Jesse's Smile' or ‚Joey’ from Angelique Jurd,
‘Save the at he kids' series from EM Leya,
‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or
'Liberty' from Seth King),
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a
WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises
(like most of Andrew Grey’s books)
it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few
times a year (most romances where you can
enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader,
maybe 2-3 times a year. It’s like a B

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-
reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but
it was ok). It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too
many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an
absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole
line, dismissed, repeat the class

I hope, there will be more books!!!!!

No longer alone

Two lost souls drifting through life finding each other from in an unexpected place. The journey of finding themselves both together and apart was beautiful. I loved it. I loved even more that stereotypes and misconceptions were discussed. The writing was great the smexy was good and the few good side characters were cool. On to part 2

College student Micah meets older widower Carter and dips his toe in the ABDL/daddy kink/age play wading pool... and takes to it like a duck to water. Carter has lost his husband, and Micah is a breath of fresh air in his life; very patiently and lovingly, Carter introduces Micah to this new lifestyle that Micah has found so appealing. I haven't read a lot of books with this trope, but I found it very sensitively and intelligently explored, and the narration of the audiobook by Kenneth Obi was masterful and nuanced. Recommended!

Sweet age gap/age play romance

Micha and Carter are two lonely people looking for a place to belong. I really enjoyed that they took their time getting to know each other, and talked about what they were comfortable with. It made their growing emotional intimacy believable and relatable.

Beautiful!!!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This was beautifully done. Not a word I would first use in describing R. Phoenix's work though Chris McHart has inspired it. I knew this would be great with these two working together. The attention to detail is perfect. You can see aspects of both author's without any over shadowing as well. Micah's life and his reactions scream of one author while you can see the other in Carter and his parents. Both R. Phoenix and Chris McHart are excellent writers and together they have made magic. I loved watching Micah build his self confidence and Carter move on after such a devastating loss. We can't forget the secondary characters either. If love to know more about Sean and Rick. Finn sounds like a fun guy as well. Plus, what's up with Taylor and have we really heard the last of Jacob? I do hope these two authors give us more but I know collaborations are tough and time is in short supply. When it comes to BDSM and kink/fetish reads I have very high standards. These two have a realistic read with high respect to the lifestyle. That's my two sting points I look for and they did a fantastic job with both. Whether it's solo or together, I will definitely be first in line for more.
