Oliver Napoleon Hill was an American self-help author and conman. He is best known for his book Think and Grow Rich (1937), which is among the best-selling self-help books of all time. Hill's works insisted that fervid expectations are essential to improving one's life. Most of his books were promoted as expounding principles to achieve "success".
Hill is a controversial figure. Accused of fraud, modern historians also doubt many of his claims, such as that he met Andrew Carnegie and that he was an attorney.

Napoleon Hill: “Desire is the starting point of all achievement.”
This is a version of the 1937 international best selling book based on his belief that a fortune is within reach for all. His foundation continues that work.
This book helps you get your mind focused in the right way, that you can make your life want you want it to be.
“Riches do not respond to wishes. They respond only to definite plans, backed by definite desires through constant persistence.” These points remind me of what YNAB helps you to do.
1. Clearly define what you want…. In writing
2. Intense desire
3. Self-Reliance (Belief in one’s own ability)
4. Knowledge - research/ experience
5. Willpower
6. Habit - it becomes a part of the daily experiences.
I think this is important to note:
One’s nearest relatives often are the worst offenders of criticism. Criticism will plant fear in the human heart, or resentment, but it will not build love or affection. So protect yourself from negativity. The best way to do that is the habit of keeping it busy with a definite purpose, backed by a definite plan

Reading The 5 Essential Principles of Think & Grow Rich reminded me how much real success starts in the mind, not in circumstances. Hill’s five principles—purpose, alliances, faith, extra effort, and discipline—felt both timeless and surprisingly practical.

What resonated with me most was the idea of definiteness of purpose. I notice the same in coaching: once a person dares to define clearly what they truly want, everything else begins to align more naturally. The principle of “going the extra mile” also spoke to me—it’s not just about outperforming others, but about creating genuine value and trust, which is exactly what I want to bring into my work with clients.

This book was a good reminder that success is less about chasing and more about becoming—the kind of person who is prepared, consistent, and open to opportunities.

A great summary for the book Think and Grow Rich. But I found that in some places, a little more explaining could have been helpful. Especially the last principle of fear. The ending of the book was also abrupt, and left without a goodbye paragraph. It felt like the book had no closure.

Still, an important book to put beside your working table for moments when you want to feel negative, you can simply pick it up and flip through the pages for a quick reminder that we cannot control anything else, other than our thoughts and our states of mind.

I like that the book was quick to read. My favorite part of the book was a quote he said about worry. "Nothing with life has to offer is worse the price of worry." I tend to worry a lot. And maybe worry is a waste of my time. I also enjoyed the little story about his son. Another story I liked was about the founder of cocoa cola.

This is a short summary of things most people are aware of, but what a great reminder! Of all the listed fears, the 7th is the most influential - being susceptible to negative influence! Men can control one thing - their thoughts and how powerful that is. That's what kept Frankl alive, and what will help anyone in any circumstance!

I was getting impatient initially, but once I settled into the implicit thought conveyed by the language, I was curious. From there the book strung me enough to serve the purpose of listening, which was to decide whether to read the full book.
And the answer is - yes!

I would not listen to but read the full version in print.

Quick read without a lot of fluff. To be honest it might have read too quickly, and I might read it again as a refresher in the future.

This book "The 5 Essential Principles of Think and Grow Rich" can help me find the core values of the monetization principle and other types of personal achievement. This particular book describes what we must do and how to become rich. The special edition focuses on four key principles for success: Desire, Imagination, Consistency, Genius Mind, and the Six Ghosts of Fear. The focus of this book is on ways to help us think rich and get rich through the power of thinking. In each chapter of the book, the money-making secrets of more than five hundred men are explained and are lessons for us to refer to.
* Passion
According to Napoleon Hill, ambition is the starting point of all achievements. It was not an ordinary desire, but a burning desire. Desire will pave the way for an important and clear goal, without which success and happiness are completely far away. Those of us who fight for wealth should understand that the world we live in is always in motion, so it always requires new ideas, new methods, new leaders, new inventions, new teaching and marketing methods, etc. Dreaming alone will not bring you wealth, but aspire to riches with an obsessive psychological state, then plan concrete steps towards success, not forgetting to develop a plan. If you plan with consistency, wealth will come to you. Those who want to win must have a quality that is a burning desire.
*Imagination
Imagination is the workshop of thought. And we all often imagine. Imagination sometimes emerges in the times when we dream, reflect and create art. Use your imagination to bring about financial results. Clear thinking combined with aspiration will lead us to wealth. Great leaders in business, industry, finance and even artists, musicians, poets, and writers become great because they tap into their creative imaginations. Imagination helps you transform your goals into the material that is in front of you. The book gives you a scenario that you should imagine, that is when you have a million dollars in hand. You will see what you get, what you can do when you become rich. It was truly a sight that anyone would enjoy and want to reach out for.
*Perseverance
Perseverance forces us to face failure, to learn that it is only a temporary setback and that we can overcome it. Only those who are persistent have a chance to achieve success. Consistency is an important factor in converting aspiration into its monetary equivalent. The basis of perseverance is the strength of will. Most people are very enthusiastic when setting an intention or goal, but then give up every time they encounter difficulties or obstacles. Only a few can make it to the end no matter how many ups and downs they face. Consistency is a nurtureable state of mind. The book outlines the symptoms of an unstable nature and shows readers how to develop consistency.
*Genius mind
Napoleon Hill also recognized the power of thinking as it can help us overcome the exhausting effects of fear. If they cannot turn plans into action, they will just stay in place and be of no use. To make money, power is indispensable. And Napoleon advises readers to seek strength through excellent intelligence. Through the author's explanations, we see that the mind does not only achieve financial success through the use of desire, imagination, consistency, and genius but also for the mind of the reader can produce happiness and peace of mind, enduring by overcoming the fears that plague us.
*Six ghosts of fear
Reading this section, readers can analyze it thoroughly and determine what fear is reigning in you if any. The six basic fears include fear of poverty, criticism, fear of illness, fear of losing love, fear of old age, and fear of death. With each fear, the author delves into the analysis and explains why people have these fears. But most importantly, Napoleon Hill offers measures for readers to know how to protect themselves against bad influences.

[Audible]
Nothing groundbreaking here, I only took away one new idea of value.
I'd still be interested to read the full book though, I probably wouldn't waste your time on this as it's very basic.
