Burning for the Baron

Rate this book
Like a moth to the flame…

Maximillian Atwood, Baron of Sutton, is consumed with guilt. The lives he saved as a spy for the Crown are never enough to atone for those he destroyed. Retired now, the woman he hurt the most is the one he can’t avoid. She works for him, haunts his dreams … sets his body on fire. She’s the woman he desires most, and she doesn’t know he’s responsible for her husband’s death.

Longing for independence, Colleen Bonner takes on a scandalous new job as manager for a bawdyhouse. Having money in her pocket feels heavenly; the way her new employer makes her burn feels even better. But she won’t let the searing heat she and Max create melt her heart. Because Colleen has a secret of her own and if discovered, her life could go down in flames.

When an enemy from Max’s past resurfaces and takes aim at Colleen, Max is torn between duty … and revenge. For now that he knows what it truly means to love, he’ll do anything to protect Colleen, even if it means watching their future together go up in smoke.

+++Burning for the Baron contains fire play and steamy sex scenes. Don't read unless you like your romances HOT. :) +++

2.5.

I didn’t like the heroine’s piousness and some of her actions regarding the investigation. A bit too realistic for my escapism. The sex was pretty steamy and the language slightly explicit. It was my first time reading fire play. It was one scene and brief though. Not a turn-on for me but to each their own.

Another reason for the rating is because I didn’t think that they knew each other well enough to have fallen in love with each other. I didn’t feel the chemistry. Oh, and the hero has a beard!

The villain reveal was a surprise but I should have seen it coming. Apparently, the male characters in the series have been investigating Zed (villain) for the past two/three books. I think it’s best to read the books in order but I was able to follow along just fine.

I liked the author’s writing style and I enjoyed the plot very much. But I found Colleen was too prude for my liking and I didn’t like the fact that she kept her secret and let Max carried his burden of guilt until almost the end of the book. However, the last 2 chapters saved the book for me. The banters between Max and his friends were hilarious. I look forward to reading the next book.

Loved the book. It was well written, entertaining and holds your attention. Max and Colleen are great characters and the interaction between them makes for great reading. I would recommend this book and I am sure you will enjoy the book as much as I did.

Liked this couple and their interesting kink. She's clever but quite flawed and the H liked her bossy ways. He's great, mad about her from the start and together with his friends, they were able to uncover the baddie. I liked this fun read, good pace and great writing.

Ok so for starters this is the first author in awhile that had me hooked from the very first page (of book 1). Alyson Chase's writing is like Elisa Braden and Celeste Bradley had a love child.

All of the books in the series are incredibly engaging and filled with wonderful detail and feeling. The flaws and strengths of all of the characters were believable and every seemed so wonderfully REAL. The camaraderie between all five men is fun to read all on it's own.

I didn't expect to enjoy this one as much as I did. I had no idea what she would do with the flame loving Maximus but I definitely was not disappointed. If you enjoy an engaging story and just the right amount of explicitness, this is for you. I can't recommend this book or author enough.

I’m in a bit of a slump when it comes to reviews, so I’ll make this one short and sweet.

The quality of writing, world building, and character development are once again top-notch.

The palpable and scorching hot (ha!) chemistry between the main couple was delicious and fun, and I also genuinely liked both hero and the heroine. Max was also extra fine, because against Regency style he sported a thick beard and shaggy hair (I couldn’t help but picture Jason Momoa, so…).

I was a little bit eh on the fire play theme; to be honest, this one feels the least sexy so far, but I’m completely newbie to BDSM-themed erotic romances.

The first book in the series was interesting, tense, passionate. The second book was almost on par with the first. This 3rd book is very disappointing.

**Warning: This book is for people who like to play with fire

I loved this book! Loved - Loved - LOVED IT! "Burning for the Baron" is so HOT is made my Kindle sizzle, truly, I couldn't stop reading this delicious story! Two nights and a whole day had my kindle working overtime. All my chores, all my home duties including paying bills stopped. This book is that good.

Book 3 is definitely my favorite! I loved Max! He is my favorite of all 3 Lords. He is definitely an Alpha male that is HOT! When I say HOT I mean he loves to play with fire! The way he makes love is sensual, sweet, passionate, strong and add some fire (literally) and you get some of the "hottest" love scenes I've read in a long time!

Add Colleen, a widow with some secrets, very smart however her common sense lacks a little. She's perfect for Max. She's funny, curious, and manages to get herself into some unusual and hilarious situations. She's managing a "Play House" thanks to Max who is the owner.

There is adventure, pleasure - that's a little naughty but perfect for the storyline, some funny moments, and some HOT LOVE SCENES!!! **wagging brows**

This is how regency romance novels should be like. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

Alyson Chase is now in my top five favorite authors. I promise you won't get bored reading this book! There are no "ugh, too slow", flip pages in this book. You will want to read each word written!

This book was so good...I want more.......like NOW!!

Heat Rating: So hot your bed sheets, undies, Kindle, and whomever sleeps besides you will burn! You will need a fan-on high! Trust me! This is good!

This is the third book in the series but could be read on its own however I’d recommend reading the whole series to fully appreciate the story. The story drew me in from the start, the pace is very good & flows well all the way through, there are some spicy, hot (in more ways than one!) love scenes but it is the plot that gives this novel the edge. Max & Colleen are attracted to each other but there's a gang leader to catch. I read the book in well under a day as I was loathe to put down this captivating, engrossing read, I look forward to Dunkeld & especially Summerset having their stories
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Ugh this series. So good. Max likes fire, wax, and the starchy widow he hired to run the high-end kinky brothel he owns. Colleen wants to dislike him, and can't help but watch from the corner of her eye when salacious things happen in the rooms she manages. So when Max finally gets her out of her starchy clothes and shows her what he likes, she can't help but melt for him.

Each book in this series builds beautifully on the last, with tight world building, and a tight knit crew of characters. Max is my favorite hero so far, and I loved Colleen too. They are so well crafted and so complimentary. I know that's the point of romance, to craft characters that work well together and bring out the best and most authentic sides of the other, but this pairing just worked for me more than most. The starchy and the wild lights me up even more than grumpy sunshine.

These kinky spy noblemen are really doing it for me, and I love the women who bring them to heel and they way they all accept each other's true selves.

Captivating and sensuous. Not for the faint hearted!

Well, what a surprise! Burning for the Baron brought up all sorts of thoughts but not the literal ones.
Mrs Bonner is a true puritan. Conflicted by needs and wants which contradict her upbringing. All these tested by Baron Sutton, who guilt ridden himself, thinks to protect her by putting her in a position which questions her upbringing.
However, Ms. Chase combines this with wicked sensuality of an unusual nature but brings only the literal meaning to 'hot'. But there is no 'only' about it.
Mix this with espionage and intrigue, what more do go want?
Lord Somerset is cool by the way. You want to know more? You'll have to read the other books in the series and the ones to come. I certainly shall.
Steamy, literally, heated, absolutely, challenging, most definitely.
How did I miss the other Alyson Chase books. An error I shall remedy immediately!
Bravo Alyson!

This intriguing steamfest was terrific on all accounts, and included a most entertaining bonus in the "don't try this at home" warnings, making me wonder just what on Earth kind of kink would be found within these pages. The answer: thankfully nothing that wasn't mutually enjoyable, and was actually rather tame compared to what my worst-case-scenario imagination had feared. Phew! The characters were brilliant, and the plot was full of twists & turns. Duty, sacrifice, friendship, honesty, forgiveness, betrayal, courage, desperation, social pressures, independence, dreams, hope, and love were some of the underlying themes in this well written tale. I haven't read any of the other books in this series, but am planning on catching up because I don't feel like saying bye to Max & his pals just yet.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

This is the third book in the Lords of Discipline by Alyson Chase. I haven’t read any of the other books, but having read this one I can’t wait to read them. This book is marvelous in the way that Alyson has interwoven history, suspense, romance and bdsm. Our hero Max is into fire play and our heroine Colleen has had her home burn down. He thinks that he is responsible and helps her by giving her a job at his bawdy house. There she learns more about sex than she ever knew before so that when Max wants to play with her with wax and fire she agrees. Woven through the romance is the mystery of who the enemy is from Max’s past that is causing problems for them and his band of friends. A terrific read.

This was a awesome book by Alyson Chase. Its a well written entertaining book with wonderful characters that kept my interest from beginning to end. There's suspense, intrigue , guilt, distrust, duty, dreams, hope, love and steamy romance. This is Max and Colleen's story, Max is a retired spy and has a secret, one that involves a women he desires. Colleen is a smart, resilient widow who has dreams of running a flower shop not the brothel job Max gave her after causing her husbands death. She's not sure she thinks much on sex and Max finds himself very attracted to her. It's a sexy fun read that you will enjoy. I can't wait to read more form this author!!!

Although there is the group of noble friends working for the Crown, this is a refreshing change from the usual in this genre. The heroine, Colleen, is a merchant's widow, who has been left penniless. Max has claimed his retirement, but then Coleen gets a threatening letter and he goes into protective mode. I felt how their relationship was depicted to be believable. Max is very exacting and caring in his interactions with Colleen. Good dialog.
The author warns at the beginning and end NOT to re-enact the fire play; do take note!

I was a little apprehensive going into this story as to if I would like the premise of the story but let me tell you, the way it was presented was in such a way that you can see into the heart of the story. Not to downplay it but just know that is not all this story is about. It is about sinners and saints. But who is who? Max and Colleen are two souls who need each other. Trust plays a huge part in their relationship and it was amazing to read how that trust turned in passion and love.

Rather interesting and different.
Colleen the madam for The Black Rose because of her cousin she had taken this job. Max the owner of the Black Rose is attracted to Colleen, but there are other things too that hold his interest. There are interesting parts to this book and to be honest, things I have never thought about before. I found the book rather interesting and different a nice change. This book is for adults make sure you read the warnings but I can recommend it will be an entertaining read. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Max finds himself back working for the Crown when a killer surfaces again. Owning a brothel is just business, but the woman who keeps Max enthralled is the one who manages it. When she becomes a target, all his protective instincts come out. Yet they both have secrets that could keep them apart. Love, passion and a maniacal killer set the pace for a very entertaining book. Fire play as a major role in sex is one I haven't read about before. Definitely on the dangerous side and not to be used lightly.

DNF

I read 4 of the books in this series out of order and this was the last one I read. I found the characters a bit too cocky and high and mighty. I couldn't really get into them and I was saddened by this as I loved the other books in the series. I was just tired of the back and forth and the characters not listening to each other or saying what really needed to be said. It became more of a chore to read this book.

Very well written. Interesting plot and mystery. And I love the introduction to the fire play thing which I never knew was a thing. Not that I plan to try it, but it’s nice to have a new type of lovemaking described in the book. After a while, the vanilla stuff gets boring especially to someone like me who reads a book a day. All the books in this series so far deserve a full five stars and nothing less!

This is dramatic and suspenseful. When Max and Colleen meet sparks fly between them, but both are determined to ignore them. But the heat and temptation builds each time they see each other. And when Colleen's life is threatened, Max has no choice but to protect her. The storyline is really interesting and the twists make it so much better.

I like the way Colleen and Max interact. The story is different. It s a solid story, a good one. I like the flow of the story and the character's depth. The suspense keeps you on your toes. I like that Colleen is literal and smart but at the same time, so not smart.
