Jule Wake's first book, Talk to Me, was published in 2014. Since then, she has written a further eighteen books, with another two in the pipeline. She has sold translation rights to various countries throughout Europe, she's had two best sellers with Covent Garden in the Snow reaching the heady height of No 2 in the Amazon Kindle chart, something she never thought she’d see and The Little Café in Copenhagen becoming a big hit in Sainsbury’s. In January 2021 The Saturday Morning Park Run was her first book to gather over 3,000 reviews on Amazon. Running and romance is a great combination!
Very enjoyable, and I loved Laurie as a character. I suppose I would have liked the story even better if I were into cars at all. As it is, the whole car stuff seemed pretty uninteresting to me and it spoiled the pleasure of reading a bit. Overall, though, it was a nice bit of escapism and I might even re-read it in the future.
I found this book completely charming. Having never read a road-trip book before I was a little cautious, but it had such good reviews and the cover is so scrumptious that I couldn’t resist. I’m so glad I dived in, because once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. Along with your romance you get a journey of self-discovery that adds depth and intrigue, but essentially, this is romance done superbly well. Each scene is infused with gorgeous descriptions that seduce the senses so that in no time at all you’re along for the ride—travelling through Europe in a Ferrari and eager to see where this sexy car is going to take the two main characters Laurie and Cam.
Lush locations, moreish food and wine, a Parisian-chic wardrobe, and chemistry aplenty—it put me in mind of one of those fabulously glamorous movies of the fifties and sixties and left me with a satisfied smile at the end. Loved!
This is pretty cute, although I really don’t care for stories that focus on an H helping the h to get out of her shell and finally live. It’s too much like a metaphor for sexual awakening, and I am very tired of anything even remotely related to that.
By the end, I was convinced that he was very much in love with the heroine, so there’s that. 2 1/2 stars.
This was one of the stupidest books I have ever read. How could “Covent Garden in the Snow” be so good and this one so bad? I have no idea why I finished reading it. I should have chucked it out the window.
A trail in a car leaving from the channel tunnel and then going all the way across France, Switzerland and finally to Italy seems like a great way to travel.
Having a preplanned journey with the task of sending a postcard from each one sounds like fun and they’re soon off travelling but at first the journey is not an easy one – with two such very different personalities in the car, the ride is bumpy from the start.
This is a journey with a difference and there are many surprises along the way – think road trip mixed with a treasure hunt of sorts and a few candid camera moments and your picture is almost complete. Laurie and Cam change quite a lot from the beginning and Laurie especially, as she gets further away from her home in Leighton Buzzard and her old life.
From the Channel tunnel, they head to Honfleur , Le Mans, Orleans and to the delights of the Loire Valley and the stunning castles there. Then off to Chaumont, Bresancon, Basle, Zurich, Monstein, Bormio and Maranello
But the real challenge is the Stelvio Pass – the journey from Switzerland to Italy and all the way to the home of Formula One – Maranello
For all car enthusiasts, this will cause extreme envy – visiting Bormio and Maranello. In a Ferrari!
No spoilers as to what happens to the car and those in it, but it’s been a rip roaring ride of surprises and romance set against a real life adventure trail and pilgrimage for Ferrari fans everywhere.
Well that was an interesting journey! I could feel the wind in my hair, the roar of the engine and the scenery of various countries and places whizzing by. Such a fun ride and as many twists and turns both in the story and on the road. Never been in a Ferrari but I really want to go in a real one now!
The idea that your uncle had only left you a Ferrari if you drove it half way across Europe appealed to me. Knowing nothing about the world of Ferraris. I now know a little of that buzz world and the places people go on car pilgrimages. Quite an eye opener!
All in all a fun ride and a charming story. It’s a romantic comedy and there were more than one Bridget Jones moments with Laurie! She’d be great to travel with. Laughs all the way.
A fun read with an amazing backdrop across Europe!
From Italy With Love is your predictable romance story. What does make this one slightly different though is the fabulous descriptions of the surrounding scenery and a wonderful classic car.
I have to say reading of Cam and Laurie as they make their way to Italy really made me wish that I had the time and money to be able to take the same route as they did. The places they go to and the scenery just sounded so idyllic and was definitely very envious.
The whole storyline was quite obvious but this novel is still very much an enjoyable read and would certainly read more books by the author.
A sexu... A zbavenie sa otravného snúbenca bolo len čerešničkou, ku ktorej to celý čas smerovalo. Veľmi predvídateľný a priemerný hallmarkovský príbeh. 2,5*
No to spracovanie nebolo dobré. Neboli my sympatické a aby v jednej knihe bolo toľko nepríjemných mužských hrdinov, tak to amen. Extrémne ma to rozčuľovalo a nechápala som ako to, že iba mne príde ich správanie nevhodné. A celkovo, ani ten románik ma nejak nezobral.
Although from the beginning it was clear how the story will end, I really enjoyed it and how MC envolved - from naive girl to self-exploring woman. Journey and places visited were bonus. However, I felt like Cam was always asking "Are you OK?" and nothing more, so I felt that cemistry between MC could be improved. But still I really enjoyed this book.
When I requested this book from Netgalley, I did so because I liked the synopsis and it had been a while since I had read a adult romance. I hadn’t heard of the author before, and I –for some reason– was not expecting great things. I am so happy to be proven wrong! I highly enjoyed this story, and there’s really only one reason I deducted a half star.
Story
How could you not love this story? It takes you across the UK, France and Italy. In a beautiful classic Ferrari. HELLO! Count me in. I enjoyed the story, although I wish we would have gotten to know more about the places they visited. Adult romances are often mostly about the characters though, so I understand. It all starts with Miles’ funeral, which is not a sad affair, but one of laughter and colorful clothing, as he wanted it. The story here revolves entirely around Laurie. It’s a story about rediscovering who you are, understanding that a safe and secure life does not always mean a happy life. I feel as if the message is very dear to me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not bored with my life. But I often wonder whether I will be. Whether one day, I will just realize that I haven’t done anything I’m passionate about for months. It scares me to live a life like that and not even realizing it. This is a story about discovering what you want, and having the courage to choose it over another option that might be more stable and secure.
Characters
First off, there is Laurie. At first, I was a bit annoyed as I felt like she was a bit of a doormat. I quickly realized that that is not true, although she should have voiced her opinion more. I really liked Laurie, she seemed quite relatable. I especially enjoyed how she evolved during the journey. How she learned to voice her opinion more, to feel beautiful instead of less than others and to enjoy everything around her. The only thing I did not like in this book -which is why I didn’t give it 5 stars- is the cheating. I despise cheating. If you are not happy with your partner, then either try to make it work or split up. There is no other right choice here. Although the boyfriend was such a terrible person, I may have actually forgiven the cheating a bit.
Then there is Cam. I did really like him -although I sincerely dislike what he was trying to do in order for her to sell the car. Really, sabotaging it? That’s ridiculous. You could have just explained your reasons for wanting it. Am I the only person who believes that actually talking to someone works better than deceiving them? Anyway. I liked that he was a good guy –which I know contrasts what I just said. I loved reading about his relationship with Miles, and how he slowly got to know Laurie –and vice versa. I wouldn’t mind finding my own Cam one day.
I can’t not talk about Miles, okay. Yes, he has already passed away at the beginning of the story –otherwise that funeral would have been quite morbid, no? But he is such an important character in this story! He is the glue that keeps the family and estate together, the one that tries to give each and every person he loved the best. I adore this guy. Even though his method may not have been the best, he knew Laurie needed to break out of her security-shell. Well done, Miles.
Lastly, Robert. I don’t even want to talk about this person, as he is a horrid human being. The only thing he cares about is money. He finds out that the family Laurie has lost is rich and immediately wants to marry her. Then he finds out about the car. He doesn’t even ask Laurie whether she wants it as a reminder to her uncle. No, he immediately looks up how much he can profit from it. And then when Laurie said she didn’t want to marry immediately, he just completely ignored that and phoned the wedding registry -or something like that. HELLO? WHAT? Anyway, you are a terrible person.
Conclusion
I highly enjoyed From Italy With Love. It’s a romance novel that will surprise you. It showed me how important it is to never let go of your passions, no matter what your financial situation or job is. To never settle for anything, because if you want to, you can achieve things you never thought possible. It did all that for me, even though it was such a light and quick read. I would definitely recommend it to fans of the genre.
Laurie has a comfortable life. She's living together with her boyfriend in the house she's inherited from her father. She has a steady job at a library and her life is safe and predictable, exactly the way she likes it. When her uncle Miles passes away he leaves her his most precious car, a beautiful and rare Ferrari. There's only one condition, she has to drive it to Italy following a special itinerary that Miles has set up for her. Fortunately she doesn't have to do this alone. Cameron will go with her, he knows the car and he knows how to drive it, so he's there to help her. That isn't the only reason he's going with Laurie though. She thinks he's a mechanic, but he's actually much more than that.
Cam thinks Laurie is mousy and a pushover. He only agrees to accompany her because of the car. He wants to buy the Ferrari for the dream price Miles has promised him. Laurie and Cam have to learn to get along, because they're spending a lot of time together. The journey itself is amazing, but the company isn't always easy. While Laurie discovers what it's like to live she also learns to take her own decisions, something Cam has to get used to. It's a journey filled with surprises for both of them...
I loved From Italy With Love. The idea of a brilliant car, two beautiful people and gorgeous scenery is terrific and the execution is perfect. I liked this book so much, it's the perfect summer read. It made me smile the whole time, I cheered for Laurie and I envied her as I wanted to drive that car as well. Jules Wake is a great writer and she knows how to keep her readers fascinated. There's never a dull moment, the story is fast paced, exactly like the journey in that fabulous Ferrari. I've visited some of the places and they're indeed special, just like this wonderful story.
This is the first 'road trip' romance I've ever read, and I loved it from beginning to end. From the humorous opening funeral scene to the conclusion, this pacy story never lagged and kept me so riveted that I pulled an allnighter to read it! Jules Wake is going on my autobuy list from now on.
Through the course of their road trip from England to Italy, via France and Switzerland, Laurie and Cam both learn a lot about themselves, and their emotional journey really touched me. Especially Laurie's learning to overcome her hang-ups and insecurities to grow as a person and find herself - not because of a man or a romance, but by going within herself.
I laughed, I cried, and at the end I felt inspired to turn around my own life in the same way Laurie turned hers around. I liked and respected these characters, and fell more than a little in love with Cam.
Exotic settings, well drawn secondary characters, compelling conflict and a car to die for - this book has it all!
Te nu es izklausīšos pēc grumpy vecmeitas (kas var būt un var nebūt taisnība) --> pagalam neizdevušies vīriešu tēli - skaisti un iekārojami no ārpuses, alkatīgi egoisti iekšienē, ārkārtīgi patronising (is there even a word in Latvian for this?), nu tādi, kas sievieti uzskata par mācāmu, stulbu, neizdevušos cilvēku.
Really, thoroughly enjoyed this book. It kept me guessing until the end and the writing flowed beautifully. I couldn't wait to get back to it each time I had to put my Kindle down. Laurie goes on an inner journey as well as her fab physical journey across Italy in a rare Ferrari and Cam discovers what's really important.
chic lit at its best. fell in love with these two main characters straight away and spent the whole book willing them to get together. id forgotten how much I love a good chic lit book. easy but totally enjoyable read.
What I didn't like about this book is that I've just spent most of three days sitting on the couch getting nothing done. Couldn't put it down! I loved taking a virtual tour across Europe with Laurie and Cam.

Thoroughly enjoyed this story – a light, romantic read but with super-great ingredients. It begins at the funeral of eccentric uncle Miles – and mousy Laurie along with ghastly boyfriend Robert are the only ones not in leather cat suits, fuschia or fascinators: against Miles’s wishes, they’ve turned out in dreary dark suits. Not quite black, because that was forbidden. So, Laurie takes off across Europe with piratical hottie Cam in a classic Ferrari, as part of Uncle Miles’ final request and conditions of his will. If she gets to a particular destination, along this particular route, then she gets to keep the car (which she doesn’t know is worth millions). Robert of course is a turdy little gold-digger and is very well aware it’s worth millions: all of a sudden, he wants to marry Laurie in a rush. Laurie’s under-confident due to a fairly crap life in some ways, and Miles’s will is a carefully thought out plot to get her to realize her full potential. While Cam is a commitment-phobic rich-and-famous-women-philanderer type, with a heart of gold and a weak stomach for seafood. Who likes a bit of mothering when he’s super-poorly. So – fast cars, exciting and beautiful route through France, wine, Paris, art galleries, restaurants, mountains, lakes and Italy: and a learning journey which includes not one but two makeovers for the dowdy Laurie, with some spirited sex along the way. What’s not to like??!! For more of Brin's reviews go to: http://www.brinmurray.com/
Uncle Miles has died and now Laurie has been left his classic Ferrari, there's just one proviso - she has to travel across Europe to take the car back to it's birthplace in Maranello. Not only that but Miles has preset the meandering route through France and Switzerland in to Italy and designated certain locations that Laurie has to send postcards from in order to receive her vehicular legacy.
This was such a fun book and dealt more with the awakening of Laurie's character in to the person she should have been all along than anything else. There is romance with the, rather disgusting, Robert who proposes once he can see wealth on the horizon and the enigmatic Cameron. The plot moves swiftly and doesn't become stagnated by "they went here and then here" type scenarios. Instead Ms Wake has picked over the journey and selected only the jewels from the road trip. Laurie's blossoming into the person she was before her parent's divorce and her father's death several years later is wonderful to read and you internally cheer as she decides how she wants to be rather than how others want her to be.
This may not be great literature but it does the most important thing of any book - it entertained me, it made the characters and places come alive in my imagination and it made me happy. Surely that is the greatest testament of any author's work - no matter what the genre, it makes the reader feel sated when reading.
You know, I couldn't wait to start reading this book, I had a very overwhelming feeling when I pressed the "Request" button that I'm really going to like it, that it's going to be a story that will have me hooked and I won't want to put it away. Don't know why, just had this feeling, and the blurb was so promising, the cover so inviting... And yes, I wasn't mistaken - it was a great read! Full of fast cars, brilliant journey through Europe, adventures and many, many more!
The story starts with a real kick, namely at the funeral, but not very usual funeral. Laurie's Uncle, Miles, decided that black is not going to be seen there, and all of his four ex - wives and guests turn up wearing red, but also his choice of music might have been perceived as controversial. But that was Miles for you - larger than life, generous, open - handed and beloved by his friends. Only Laurie and her boyfriend Robert show up wearing navy and standing out from the crowd.
Laurie and Robert live together in Laurie's home. She works in a library and they both lead a very mediocre, average, steady life, without taking any risks, without excitement, and I couldn't help but think that it is in fact Robert who's forcing Laurie to live like this. He made her wear her hair like this, to buy clothes like this and while Laurie said she's feeling great in her own skin, the great change in her only proved that she was wrong - she was just waiting for a chance to spread her wings and show the world her true colours. I really adored the change in her, her coming out of her comfort zone, out of her shell, and the development in her was of an epic sorts, really!
So Uncle Miles lefts Laurie a verrrry classic Ferrari GT250, but under one condition - she must take the car across Europe, to Maranello - the home of Ferrari. Everything is organized - the whole trip, sleeping places etc., as well as some certain places where she must stop, and she must also send some postcards along the way. That she's not feeling lonely, Cameron Matthews, Miles's friend and a car mechanic, is going to accompany her on this trip.
Now, to say that Cam was a cookie would be an understatement. I have a soft spot for car mechanics to be honest, just imagine those oily bodies covered in dirt appearing from under the cars... Mmm... OK, OK, I'm dreaming a little here... But I had a feeling that we didn't have such a good chance to get to know Cam as well as we got to know Laurie. Yes, we know his background, his story, his dreams, but he'd rather kept himself to himself in my opinion. But! If I were to go on a trip with a stranger, I'd only go with Cam!
We can't, of course, forget our dear Robert, who was one of the most unlikeable, disgusting characters ever, and I really have no idea what Laurie's seen in him. Although I have a feeling that his sub - plot was the weakest one here, somehow unfinished - I thought that there must have been something more to his pushing on getting married, something different to the fact that Laurie might have inherited some money. I was guessing job troubles, or other women, but nothing came, so he was probably only greedy. And his attempt at revenge, I really have no idea how does it sit with the police, but I think: well, nobody caught Laurie, right? So he can stuff his police where the sun doesn't shine, no?
You know, this extravagant Ferrari was almost a character in the book as well! The way it was described it was as if it was a living, breathing creature. I'm guessing Cam was really in love with this baby. Well, he was plotting and planning how to persuade Laurie to sell it to him after the trip ended.
Yes, I liked Laurie from the beginning, but I found myself liking her more and more as the story progressed. It was like seeing a Cinderella, there was so much change in her, and it was a change for better. She grew to be more confident, to know her virtues and to conquer her fears and demons, and oh my, she proved she can really rock! But this sensible, gentle side of her didn't change, and I really loved the way she interacted with her younger sister. There might have been nothing exciting about her, in fact, she was more like a mouseburger, worrying about her job and money and for sure in her life there wasn't any place for extravagant travelling or keeping such car as Ferrari. Yet she was so likeable in her normality and down - to - earthness and I really couldn't not keep my fingers crossed for her and cheer her on her way, on her opening to the world and blossoming. Uncle Miles really knew what's best for his favourite girl!
It is this kind of book when you know from the very beginning how it is going to end, but oh my, it doesn't spoil the story at all, and let's be honest, the author doesn't make the characters' life too easy. There are complications, there are adventures and there is, on fact, also some kind of uncertainty, and altogether this creates a great, fast - paced and full of twists and turns book that is like a road movie.
I am really the last one to say that a book is too long, because the more pages there are, the bigger joy for me, but I think that here it could be a little shorter. There were too many different descriptions for my liking, too great focus on the smallest details, and sometimes I couldn't wait for something to finally happen, for the characters to answer the question, for them to move.
So yes, apart of some details, I really enjoyed the book. It's a great piece of escapism. It was a great journey, full of beautiful views and landscapes, great places to visit and unexpected twists and turns. Full of humour, great weather and good food, overall it was a light and sweet read. Jules Wake brings the views and scenery to life with her wonderful, colourful, vivid descriptions, and she writes in a very light, easy to follow way. But be aware, it's going to make yearn for holidays - I'd so love to be on a road right now!
