I thoroughly enjoyed these essays, which reflect on eleven battlefields as visited by the author in the 1980s. This slim volume gave me an intimate sense of the battlefields, some of which I have visited. The thoughtful and personal reflections and comments of the author leavened the subject. Just right if you want to read a bit of history and not a detailed treatise.
