Such an amazing read! As I was reading it I found myself thinking yes! Yes! Yes! I resonated with so many things that Char said. I learned how to energetically protect myself and how to listen to my intuitive voice. Loved it and will read again and again a million times!

This is a wonderful book about signs, karma, life lessons, and so much more. I’m not a big believer in psychics, but Margolis comes across as authentic with the spiritual messages in this book. I’m fortunate to have won a copy in a Goodreads giveaway.

Char Margolis focuses on helping you connect to the Essence. This is all religion encompassing (though there are elements that stretch the ideas of many of them). He author provides the stories of their experience but it's the exercises and my own faith that helped me connect to the Essence. Stories are helpful or others I am sure.
The only negative I have is that the book is wordy. Paragraphs say one then and the next says the same thing another way. Luckily, there is a bulleted list of key points to help discern the most important ideas.
Read this with an open mind; closed heartedness will leave with nothing from this.

I received an ARC through NetGalley; all opinions are my own.

This is a fairly quick read that has a beautiful message. It came to me at just the right time. It will guide you to connecting to Essence and show you how to connect to your own power. It is a wonderful book. I highly recommend it.

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy free of charge. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of it.

“I use the term Essence to describe the fundamental, living, intelligent, loving energy that makes up the entire universe and everything beyond it. Essence is like the air you breathe—always present, rarely noticed, but essential for life.”—from The Universe is Calling You.

I believe in both reincarnation and karma so this book fits right into my belief system. However, if you don’t, will this book convince you that you should believe it? I’m not sure it will. It builds a good understanding of how this system works. But there is no real evidence presented. I expected more examples of how the author, a well-known psychic medium, gave information that could only be known by the deceased to their survivors. However, that was only explored briefly at the beginning of the book.

The Universe is Calling You is a good choice for the recently bereaved and those frustrated with how their lives are going. There is much talk about how to improve yourself by finding your individual Essence that is reflected by your loved ones. Mindfulness, meditation and prayer are also used as a way to connect. Basically, everyone still stuck on Earth is here to learn how to be a better person. Any bad behaviors from previous lives may throw up roadblocks in your current life (i.e., karma is a witch.) But those difficulties can be overcome.

I love the way this book clearly expresses the Essence philosophy in layman’s terms while also incorporating in new practices like mindfulness. For me, it’s a 4.5 star read rounded up to 5 stars!

Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Three and a half stars...

What drew me to this book, aside from the neon-colored book jacket was my personal quest for “aha-moments” that would evoke clarity about my own calling. I came to this book with that desire, and no knowledge of the author, who is a celebrity medium of sorts.

The book is about how to tune into your own ‘Essence,’ recognize subtle energies, signs, symbols, messages from the Divine that might otherwise be missed. After spending some time exploring what Essence is, and how to listen to it to improve daily life, the book moves towards its more serious theme of inspiring you to think about what good you are doing in your life today. It suggests that you take action towards the good that you can do by embracing change, sharing love, and being in a state of gratitude.

This is a quiet book, more like a tapestry than a treasure map. The topics are illustrated with many stories from Char’s client readings, interwoven with tales and folklore, and embroidered with quotes from a variety of classic poets, writers, authors, and gurus, past and present. All of these are well-chosen and effective in supporting each premise.

However, the closest I came to an “aha” was:
Dreams allow us to work on problems we couldn’t face otherwise. They allow information that does not get past the conscious mind to present itself.

This evoked a humorous image of a bouncer with folded arms protecting my mind from ill-mannered and embarrassing patrons trying to get in the door. The idea of dreams serving to distract the ‘hired heavy’ was a new way for me to think about staging an ego-intervention—instead of an “aha,” I got one “ha-ha” as my takeaway.

This book also contained some ‘Soul Energy Boosters’ and here were my favorites:

• It’s not so important to live for today necessarily, but to live in today.
• No one on Earth or in spirit has power over us unless we give it to them.
• When intuition is combined with the conscious forces of logic and common sense, we have a powerful guide for our actions.

What stood out for me in my first reading was an overall tone of warmth and positivity. However, the book felt like it was missing something; I wanted to like it more. If the bright cover could be lifted to reveal more about Char’s life (not just stories of her readings for her clients) maybe that would have led to a stronger connection for me. The book feels like its ghostwriter had too heavy a hand in the content.

Anyone working as a medium faces controversy and must navigate naysayers and other detractors. I think the potential ‘aha’ for me could have come through learning how someone who espouses the high attributes in The Universe is Calling You came to the realization of them herself. Overcoming the personal challenges that lead us to that higher version of self is where the delightful mystery lies for this reader.

This review in a nutshell:
I wanted to feel more “Char” in this book. If beneath the tapestry lies a messy, beautiful struggle, that story would be not only more interesting and inspiring, but potentially more helpful.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my digital copy in exchange for an honest opinion.

The title is what drew me to request this book because I am always telling people about how the Universe can be trying to get your attention and you might not be looking. This was a good time for me to read this book because I have been questioning some things in life lately and my questions were basically addressed in this book. I have never heard of the "Essence" before but I was able to stick with it by using my own interpretation...For the past twelve years or so I have tried to live my life in a more positive and honest way. Honest to me and to others but basically to myself. I have come into my own power as I no longer care about things that used to really bother me. This book was a great way to reinforce that for me.

While I did enjoy the book, there were a few times where there was just slightly too much name dropping and it got to the point where it would take my mind off of what I was trying to read. It began to read like a textbook sometimes and I really do not like that. So during the points where that was not happening, I really enjoyed the book. :) There were a few times where the paragraph length was literally three pages long and that was another case of not being able to hang. My bad.

The Universe is calling you was about a 3.5 ⭐️ for me. There were some parts that I loved and really payed attention to and some parts that were just ok for me.

I liked how Char added different quotes from a multitude of people. It was helpful and intriguing when she offered different activities, prayers and mantras. It was interesting reading about the many situations and people she did readings for.

The one thing that bothered me the most about this book was how the author sometimes would not spell out God’s full name and then also just refer to him as “essence”. In many parts of the book she wrote as a Christian and then other times she would waver.

This book is probably not for everyone, but it *is* for the open-minded. For me, it is the closest “handbook for life” that aligns with my own beliefs about our purpose on earth and what happens in the afterlife. I listened to the audiobook on Audible. I wish the author herself had read her work. Upon listening all the way through the book, I now want a physical copy to read, notate, and highlight. Though the content is repetitive, it could also be argued that the repeated themes and ideas help cement theses points to the reader. It is simple and profound at the same time.

urge that was calling me to pick it up and read it. Each chapter was a unique point about living life and how to get the most out of it. I felt like some of the information was things you hear all the time when you read a PD book but most of what I read was new information and I enjoyed it. The one negative to this book was the recap at the end of each chapter. It gives you "your souls energy boosters," which is basically a recap of what it said in the chapter and I honestly hate when books do that.

For the most part this was an enjoyable book, quick and easy to read, positive and uplifting, with lots of helpful insights, lessons and reminders that fit the circumstances of my life currently and will help guide me on my continuing journey. The psychic aspect was probably the least enjoyable part for me personally. Intuition, energies, gut-feelings and instincts absolutely, but talking to those who have "crossed over" seems a bit of a stretch and even feels forced into the narrative at times. Overall not a bad read.

It was too woo woo for me. I didn't realize that Char Margolis considers herself a psychic. She uses the term "Essence" to refer to energy that's in the universe.
