A very interesting, deep-into-the-factual-and-realpolitik-weeds but occasionally dry treatise on Lyndon B. Johnson's foreign policy. It reads like an extended monograph. Yet Brands impressively details foreign policy hot spots Johnson encountered outside of Viet Nam (the Six Day War of 1967 & the 1965 Dominican Republic uprising that drove President Juan Bosch from power are two examples). Brands devotes an entire chapter to the Viet Nam conflict; in it, he argues LBJ defended the status quo because that's where American interests lay.
