Michael and his dog Waldo, walking along a rainy beach, pool their imaginations to share a possible adventure involving a band of pirates and several monsters.
First seeing the cover, the book seemed like it would be detailed and intriguing for the reader. The story portrays a young boy and his dog named Waldo who go out on an adventure during a rainy day. It was very imaginative because a dog didn't really speak but can go along for trips.
The book wasn't displayed as an audio book just posted as double pages. The format reminded me of when teachers used to use projectors in younger levels to present content. In the beginning of the book, it borders some of the full illustrations with white spaces then transitions into a free form covering the entire page. The book continues to go back and forth between these two types of layouts. There is some image dialogue bubbles that represent the character's thoughts. This type of e-book would be best read aloud to children because it is more traditional reading left to right. However, this would be easier to display to children instead of holding it up against the reader.
The wonderful illustrations in this book and its focus on the value of imagination make it a fun book for small children. The story revolves around a boy and his dog Waldo, and an adventure they go on by simply going outside in the rain and using their imagination. After being chased by a giant bird, a sea monster, pirates, and even a dragon, they return home and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate together. This book is a fun little adventure tale for children, and one that might help them to use their imagination. The colorful and well drawn pages make it visually fun to read as well, which will keep a child's attention. All in all I would definitely recommend this book.
I have just finished reading a batch of eBooks on my Kindle-PC. (They didn't show so well on the actual Kindle.) I am now a fan of Hans Wilhelm. His stories are fun and involving for parent or child. The illustrations are exciting. Waldo and the Desert Island makes an adventure of a rainy day. There are times when one must let real life fade and let the imagination go crazy. When I have grandchildren I will make sure I have a collection of Suess and Hans Wilhelm.
This books shows the power of imagination. A boy and his dog decide to make the out of a rainy day and go on an adventure. With their imaginations that find themselves of a desert island. The words on the page are just as fun as they illustrations. I can picture many ways I could use this book in my classroom.
If it's up to me, I would add a little bit more detail to the story. But the illustrations were great! Colorful and pretty to the eyes! :) 3.5 for the content and 4 for the art.
